Ahead of his 25th anniversary event held at the D’ Icon Event Centre at East Legon last year, the musician pledged to donate part of the proceeds to support children battling cancer.

True to his word, he has donated GH₵50,000 to the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Times, Kwaisey Pee said children are very dear to him and expressed optimism that the support would positively impact the lives of many.

The musician also assured that the gesture would not be a one-time act.

“This will not be the last. It will be a continuous feature from me,” he said.

He further called on Ghanaians both at home and abroad to support children suffering from cancer.

According to him, children battling cancer have numerous needs, and assistance from the public can help ease their suffering.

“Cancer treatment is very expensive, and leaving that burden on the parents alone is very difficult. With support from you and myself, we can make some changes in other people’s lives,” he said.

‘Music now is the cheapest thing to do’ – Kwaisey Pee claims http://34.58.148.58/music-now-is-the-cheapest-thing-to-do-kwaisey-pee-claims/ Fri, 28 Nov 2025 12:24:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605086 Highlife singer Kwaisey Pee has said that making music today is far cheaper and easier than it was in the past.

He believes the shift in production and promotion has turned music into an accessible venture for almost anyone.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, he compared his early days in the industry with current trends, noting that social media has taken over most of the promotional work. He argued that this has reduced the financial burden that musicians once carried.

“Our fathers were doing it because my dad was telling me a story when they go to studio to record back in the days when they’re doing the same thing, everybody starts, there’s no rewind, cut here, join here, like they’re doing nowadays. I think we did real music, the hardcore way,” he said.

He added that promotion used to require physical trips across the country.

“It’s just like promotion nowadays, everything is about social media. We used to go to the Sunyanis and the Brong Ahafos and Takoradi, you have to drive, travel, more money. I’m music now is the cheapest thing to do and you don’t spend a lot of money,” he said on Hitz FM.

Kwaisey Pee also dismissed the perception that today’s artistes spend heavily on online promotion.

“I don’t think so because most of them they have followers like huge followers they don’t pay money to stations, bloggers,” he said.

He pointed out that older artistes still face financial challenges in promoting their work.

“Trust me. It’s that’s the honest truth but some of us we’re still paying. We’re still pushing because we don’t have and because our followers are not the social media type so when we record we have to still come to you guys sit on radio and then talk about and promote it,” he stated.

In the meantime, he is getting ready to celebrate his 25th anniversary in the music industry.

Younger musicians hate me because I speak my mind – Kwaisey Pee http://34.58.148.58/younger-musicians-hate-me-because-i-speak-my-mind-kwaisey-pee/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 18:58:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483555 Highlife musician, Akwasi Opoku affectionately called Kwaisey Pee, has said that most of the younger musicians do not like him.

He claims it is because he speaks the bitter truth when advising the younger folks.

He said this in an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show when he was asked to admonish up-and-coming musicians.

He noted that people erroneously attribute his choice of words to hatred.

“Anytime I come out to voice out something, they feel like I’m hating on somebody or I don’t like the young ones. They say so many things,” he said.

Asked whether this has earned him hatred from the younger musicians because he speaks his mind, Kwaisey Pee responded in the affirmative. He recounted how some of the younger artistes rejected his collaboration request.

That notwithstanding, he said he is not bothered about it because he feels people do not want to be told the truth.

“A year or two years ago, I wanted to do a collabo with a couple of them and they feel like I’m always speaking against them so why do they do collabo with me? And I’ve realized it’s something that’s within us. The things we Ghanaians do we don’t want to be talked at.”

He has urged the younger musicians to listen to the older one’s advises to help elevate their career.

However, he has decided not talk about any artiste in 2025 to avoid more hatred.

He attributed the issue to the illegal acquisition of driving licences.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall show, Kwaisey Pee said tightening the process for obtaining a licence could significantly reduce accidents on the roads.

“If I were the DVLA boss, no one would easily get a licence. If I am able to curb that alone, I think it would curb lots of accidents” he stated.

Ghanaian musicians cannot live on royalties – Kwaisey Pee http://34.58.148.58/ghanaian-musicians-cannot-live-on-royalties-kwaisey-pee/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 22:02:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2210499 Highlife artiste Kwaisey Pee has said that musicians in Ghana cannot solely rely on their royalties as their means of income.

He insists that the royalties in Ghana are meagre and that artistes need more funds to support themselves.

“Yes and I’m making money from my music… but not from royalties. I have streams and I have shows. You cannot really rely on it (royalties), especially in Ghana but elsewhere, yes,” Kwaisey Pee said while speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show.

He added that “I get royalties from other places but in Ghana, it’s nothing to write home about. So if you are here and you say I’m doing music so I’m going to rely on royalties, you’re not going to make it.”

Kwaisey Pee believes that the royalty system in Ghana is to be blamed.

“Rex Omar is the head of GHAMRO and he is doing his best. Sometimes you try to find out and they will be like, ‘there are people who use your music and they don’t want to pay’, you understand.”

“There are FM stations, pubs and drinking spots, restaurants and places, so that is what I’m saying. It’s the system,” he stated.

Kwaisey Pee noted that many artistes in these times now make money with their music online.

“YouTube, Audiomack, iTunes, Amazon, Boomplay, they are the ones making money now. I mean giving the artistes money now not the royalties,” he said.

I feel very sad – Kwaisey Pee on Nigeria music topping the charts http://34.58.148.58/i-feel-very-sad-kwaisey-pee-on-nigeria-music-topping-the-charts/ Tue, 08 Feb 2022 11:09:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2076796 Ace Highlife Musician Kwaisey Pee says he feels very sad about the influx of Nigerian music on our air space.

He made this known after he was asked by Daybreak Hitz show host Andy Dosty on what he makes of the proliferation of Nigerian music on our air spaces in Ghana.

In responding to question, the ‘Monto’ singer said he feels very sad on the recent dominance of Nigerian music on air spaces because Ghanaian music used to be in the lead back then but for now everything has dropped.

He went on to say that he hopes and prays that Ghanaian music finds it feet again only if “we can go back to do what we were good at by tweaking it in a modernized way.

“…I feel very sad because once upon a time we were leading but all of a sudden everything just dropped so it is really sad. But I hope and pray that we change things and if we can go back and then maybe try to do what we were doing but try to modernise it or tweak it a little bit then we can move forward but for now if we stick to what we are doing then it will be very difficult to break the barriers”, he said.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM, the Me Hia Odo hitmaker said the two players will be highly instrumental if the team wants to succeed in winning trophies in the future.

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Kevin Prince Boateng is currently playing for Hertha BSC while 37-year-old Sulley Muntari, after taking a career break in 2019, has joined the local league under the ticket of Hearts of Oak in February 2022, but Kwaisey Pee is certain the duo will do the magic for the team.

Ghana was eliminated at the group stages in the just ended 2021 AFCON tournament. Reacting to this, Kwaisey Pee said the whole team needs a restructure – and that includes calling Kevin and Sulley back to the team.

E-levy should be scrapped; it doesn’t make sense – Kwaisey Pee [Video] http://34.58.148.58/e-levy-should-be-scrapped-it-doesnt-make-sense-kwaisey-pee-video/ Tue, 08 Feb 2022 10:48:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2076724 Highlife musician Kwaisey Pee says the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) should not be passed because it simply does not make sense.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the singer said:

“If we are going to talk about the E-levy, we are going to need a whole day. However, I think it’s a little bit too much. I also think it needs to be scrapped because it doesn’t make sense.”

Electronic Levy or E-levy is a tax applied on transactions made on electronic or digital platforms.

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta announced in Parliament the intention to implement the bill where 1.75% will be taxed on digital transactions. He said this is to “widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector”.

The E-levy covers mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments and inward remittances.

The introduction of the electronic levy has generated heated debate among the citizenry—including public figures.

Artistes including Kwaw Kese aka King Kese, Shatta Wale, Diana Hamilton and Perez Musik have expressed their thoughts on the subject.

The ‘Mehia Odo’ singer is currently promoting his gospel-themed single dubbed “Amazing God”. He also has a forthcoming collaborative EP with Ofori Amponsah.

Kojo Antwi replies Kwaisey Pee [Audio] http://34.58.148.58/kojo-antwi-replies-kwaisey-pee-audio/ Tue, 17 Dec 2019 13:49:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1733237

Music maestro, Kojo Antwi, has reacted to allegations directed at him by popular highlife singer Kwaisey Pee.

Kwaisey Pee in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM asked the Dadie Anoma hitmaker to tell Ghanaians the truth about their relationship. He said Kojo Antwi should stop denying him in interviews.

According to Kwaisey Pee, he was an errand boy for Kojo Antwi when he was just an up-and-coming act, hence cannot comprehend why Kojo Antwi would deny knowing him in many interviews.

The scuffle between Kojo Antwi and the Mehia Odo hitmaker goes way back when many fans claimed Kwaisey Pee emulated completely the music style of Kojo Antwi.

Subsequent rumours suggested that Kojo Antwi hasn’t been happy about Kwaisey Pee being a potential doppelgänger.

But, putting everything to bed in an interview on Onua FM on Tuesday, Kojo Antwi said Kwaisey Pee isn’t worth a reply.

“There are certain unpleasant stuff on social media and I wouldn’t wanna give them flesh. I say it unto the name of God, I thank God for everything. I’ve learned from a lot of things,” he said.

He said an encounter he once had with Kwaisey’s dad, Agyaaku of Yamoah and Sunsum Mystics Band, had forbidden him from responding to such allegations.

“I have vowed that because of Kwaisey Pee’s dad I wont talk… this young man can go around and say whatever he wants. I am above that. I am looking for great things in the music industry. Every good tree that bears fruits gets laden with stones and its because people want to eat from your fruits. So if God has made me a tree, I don’t have to worry.

“The young ones are coming there were people who came to pave the way and we also paved for others, I look at the bigger picture; I am about constructiveness not destructiveness,” he said.

Kwaisey Pee challenges Kojo Antwi to tell Ghanaians the truth [Video] http://34.58.148.58/kwaisey-pee-challenges-kojo-antwi-to-tell-ghanaians-the-truth-video/ Mon, 16 Dec 2019 15:41:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1732778 Highlife artiste, Kwaisey Pee, passed by Daybreak Hitz show on Hitz FM on Monday and made some interesting revelations about how his music career took off.

One that surprised many of his fans including host Andy Dosty was when he said he used to pound fufu and serve as a houseboy for music maestro Kojo Antwi.

According to the Mehia Odo hitmaker, he loved Kojo Antwi so much that he was willing to do everything for him when he was just an up-and-coming artiste, hence its surprising Kojo Antwi claims not to know him.

I used to work with Kojo Antwi back in the 90s. I used to be the fufu ‘pounder’ [sic] and ‘boy boy’ in his house. It is something he hasn’t mentioned anywhere; maybe he doesn’t like to mention that. I listened to his interview with Delay where he said he doesn’t know me but has heard my song.

SEE THIS:

“If he will come out with the truth for Ghanaians to know, I used to rehearse with his band and also run errands for him,” he told Andy Dosty, monitored by Adomonline.com.

Kwaisey Pee mentioned Kojo Antwi as his mentor when growing up but reiterated he never wants him to promote his brand but rather tell Ghanaians the truth about their relationship.

“I am not saying he should do anything for me. They thought I said he should promote me. I never believed he said he doesn’t know me until the day I heard him on Delay’s interview. I heard him with some kind of explanation then I said this ain’t right.

“The people that know I used to work with him know the truth.”

The highlife veteran said Kojo Antwi rather has a problem with him because he doesn’t recall offending him in anyway.

I have met him couple of times. We didn’t speak. He has problem with me because I did nothing wrong to him. I used to love him before I met him. And maybe that’s the reason why I was doing all those stuff for him,” he said.

Kwaisey Pee has a concert coming on December 24, at Gold Coast Restaurant and Cocktail bar at Cantonments, dubbed ‘Kwaisey Pee and Friends.’

I’m broke as hell, I sometimes borrow cars to drive – Kwaisey Pee http://34.58.148.58/im-broke-hell-sometimes-borrow-cars-drive-kwaisey-pee/ Thu, 08 Jun 2017 19:45:44 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=165281 Highlife musician, Kwaisey Pee may be seen driving flashy cars and create the impression that all is well with him. That flashy life, in fact, is a clear contrast to reality.

The talented singer is broke and he sometimes borrows people’s cars to drive, he has revealed.

In a tell-it-all interview on Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM with Lexis Bill, the musician, born Akwasi Opoku said all is not well with him financially.

According to him, there has “been like ups and downs” and when things are going well, “it’s really exciting.”

When things get bad, he added, “There’s nothing much you can do. All you need to do is maybe get back into the studio and start working and see if you can get something…”

The ‘Mehia Odo’ hit singer revealed that he does nothing aside music and currently, things are not going on well with him.

“As for money, I’m telling you I even need your money. I’m broke as hell. I wouldn’t come and sit here, to be honest with you and before God and man and say to you, it’s super for me, it’s not [because] at the end of the day music is not selling anymore in terms of CDs…” Kwaisey Pee told Lexis Bill.

“Like the way we used to do it back in the day, some of us were actually relying on CD sales and it’s no more.”

In recent times artistes survive on proceeds from stage performances but Kwaisey Pee hardly gets that opportunity.

“I don’t get too many shows. Most of the time all the shows that you see me on is my own effort that I try to put some show together…”

The son of the late legendary Agyeiku, lead vocalist for the then Yamoah’s Band, revealed, the last time he performed was in December 2016.

Unable to meet the demands of women, the singer is not married.

“I feel like being alone… women always come in with a lot of expectations and so if you are not prepared,” especially when you are a popular guy “and they see you driving Bentley,” they get excited without knowing the car is even borrowed”.

Kwaisey Pee explained that he borrows cars because “you don’t want to walk on the streets for people to see you walking on the streets”.
