The crash involved a VIP bus with registration number GT 6598-10, which was travelling from the Nkwanta direction, and a Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GT 6151-U, coming from the Kadjebi direction.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on condition of anonymity, the VIP bus swerved to avoid a pothole and collided head-on with the Sprinter bus from the opposite direction.

The witness reported that four people died in the Sprinter bus, while one person died in the VIP bus.

Mr. Kingsford Seyram Adzimah, Assemblyman for the Dodo-Pepesu/Dodo-Tamale Electoral Area, confirmed hearing about the accident but said he could not provide further details as he was not present at the scene.

Superintendent Frank Nana Asomaning, Kadjebi District Police Commander, confirmed the incident to the GNA.

He said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital in Dodi-Papase, where about 12 others who sustained injuries are also receiving treatment.

The Kadjebi District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Frank Nana Asomaning, disclosed this at the Election Taskforce emergency meeting at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

Supt. Asomaning asked the personnel to take the assignment as a national duty with diligence and tact.

He said it was temporary work, so they must endure for the good of Mother Ghana.

The 11-member Committee is comprised of the District Police Commander, the District Ghana Immigration Service Commander, the District Customs Service Commander, the District Electoral Officer, the District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the District National Ambulance Service Commander, and the District National Fire Service Commander.

The rest are the District Coordinating Director, the District National Investigation Bureau (NIB) Officer, and the District Crime Officer.

The meeting was called to brief members on the deployment plan.

According to the Electoral Commission (EC), Kadjebi District has 36 electoral areas with 115 polling stations.

The EC per a letter dated August 3, 2024, announced the exhibition of the Provisional Voter Register from the 20th to the 27th of August 2024 nationwide.

“The Commission encourages the public to participate in the Exhibition Exercise”.
