The lower-tier side suffered a 2-1 loss to the Porcupine Warriors on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Kotoko opened the scoring through Kwame Opoku’s header before Bless Ege equalised with a stunning free-kick to end the first half 1-1.

However, after a spirited performance from Golden Kick, Kotoko were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game after Opoku was brought down in the 18-yard box.

Despite strong protests from Golden Kick, Opoku stepped up and converted the spot-kick to seal the win for Karim Zito’s side.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show after the game, Epton said he was disappointed with the officiating.
“It was a keenly contested game, but I wasn’t happy with the officiating. The penalty decision was a poor one,” he said.

Despite the defeat, he praised his players for their efforts.
“My players were excellent on the day, but it’s football, and we’ll have to keep our heads up.”

Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the 2024/25 FA Cup.

Golden Kick FC fired up to beat Kotoko in FA Cup final – CEO http://34.58.148.58/golden-kick-fc-fired-up-to-beat-kotoko-in-fa-cup-final-ceo/ Wed, 11 Jun 2025 10:28:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2543584 Chief Executive Officer of Golden Kick FC, Joseph Epton, says his side is fired up to defeat Asante Kotoko and clinch the 2024/25 FA Cup title.

The lower-tier club, which stunned giants Hearts of Oak and Karela United en route to the final, will face former champions Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Epton expressed confidence in his team’s ability to pull off another upset.

“Our motivation is to play and win the FA Cup final,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“We have already eliminated Hearts of Oak, and we are motivated to beat Asante Kotoko on Sunday. That is what we are aiming at, and I am convinced we will win.”

While acknowledging the pedigree of their opponents, Epton stressed that Golden Kick FC is determined to make history.

“We respect Asante Kotoko, but the objective is to win the trophy,” he added.

Looking beyond Sunday’s final, Epton revealed that the club is considering representing Ghana in continental competition if they emerge victorious.

“We are ready to play in Africa next season. If we are not financially stable, we will seek sponsorship and compete in Africa. But if we are unable to get the needed sponsorship, then we will decide what to do.

“For now, the objective is to win the trophy on Sunday and try to compete in Africa,” he added.

Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.

Golden Kick FC CEO unfazed by Asante Kotoko ahead of FA Cup final http://34.58.148.58/golden-kick-fc-ceo-unfazed-by-asante-kotoko-ahead-of-fa-cup-final/ Wed, 14 May 2025 11:34:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534870 Golden Kick FC Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Epton, says his side has no fear going into the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup final against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.

The Division One League outfit secured their historic spot in the final after a commanding 3-1 win over fellow lower-tier side Attram De Visser at TNA Park last weekend.

Golden Kick has had an impressive run in the competition, having already knocked out two Premier League sides — Karela United and Hearts of Oak — en route to the final.

Speaking to LUV FM, Epton expressed confidence in his team’s ability to match Kotoko, citing their earlier wins over top-tier opposition as proof of their capability.

“The motivation of the boys is to win the cup, make a name and history for themselves. What motivation is more than making history and writing your name in the books of Ghana football?” he told LUV FM.

He acknowledged Kotoko’s pedigree but emphasized Golden Kick’s reputation for unsettling strong opponents.

“Kotoko is a good side; we respect them. We know they have a good coach and players, but Golden Kick is always unique when we play against the best. The best teams do not get their rhythm when they play against us, so this is what they should expect from us,” he added.

The much-anticipated final will be held on June 15 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
