The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development last week lifted the ban on fishing activities for this year’s close season for artisanal and inshore fleets.

The fishing close season, which prevented the fishers from fishing in Ghana’s waters for a month, was introduced by the Ministry and the Fisheries Commission as a measure to replenish the country’s fishery stock which data suggest has been dwindling.

The period also provides fishers the opportunity to mend their equipment and prepare for their expeditions.

James Town bumper catch

In an interview with Accra based Citi FM, the James Town fisher folks attributed their bumper catch to the weather.

They said the catch this year is far better than previous years and said the cold weather condition was a contributory factor.

“For the first time, Sunday and today [Monday], infact Sunday was the best, I can say it is because of the weather,” the chief fisherman at James Town added.

Bullion van robbery: Sad scenes from one week observation of policeman [Video] http://34.58.148.58/bullion-van-robbery-sad-scenes-from-one-week-observation-of-policeman-video/ Sun, 27 Jun 2021 12:31:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1978999 It was a sad moment for family and friends as they mourn Emmanuel Osei, the policeman killed in a bullion van robbery at James Town.

The solemn ceremony took place on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Millennium City near Kasoa in the Central Region.

Clad in red and black mourning attire, a footage from the ceremony shows mourners in a somber mood at the funeral grounds.

Scores of personnel from the Ghana Police Service were in attendance, including the Director-General of Welfare, DCOP Maame Tiwah Addo-Danquah.

The policeman, General Constable with the Headquarters SWAT team and one other, were shot dead in a daylight bullion van robbery on Monday, June 14, 2021.

According to a witness, the police officer was providing security for the van while the young lady only witnessed the incident at Adedenpo, near Jamestown.

RELATED:

The armed men, numbering about four, are said to have trailed the van with a taxi and okada.

When the van got to a less crowded area, the robbers on the okada, attacked by firing indiscriminately at the vehicle, killing the police officer on board instantly.

The men, after shooting the policeman in the head, took his gun and destroyed the locks of the vehicle before carrying away an unspecified amount of money.

Jamestown clash: Nii Lante calls for swift probe, arrest of perpetrators http://34.58.148.58/jamestown-clash-nii-lante-calls-for-swift-probe-arrest-of-perpetrators/ Mon, 26 Oct 2020 17:49:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1873133 National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP of the Odododiodio constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has called for the arrest of all persons involved in the Sunday afternoon clashes in the constituency.

Mr Vanderpuye said even though the Jamestown police are ‘impotent’ and have failed to investigate several violent attacks in the constituency; they must act swiftly and bring perpetrators to book.

What was supposed to be a peace walk on Sunday turned bloody when NPP youth clashed with their NDC counterparts.

Reports suggest that the NDC, after hearing their opponents had cancelled a ‘float’ due to time clash, hit the streets only to be greeted with stones and beer bottles.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen about the incident, the lawmaker said supporters of the NPP fuelled the clash, saying one Sammy who had defected to the NDC was their target.

“The Sammy guy is now our announcer and they have, on several occasions, launched attacks on him and have destroyed his machines but he managed to escape so I believe this attack was planned,” he said.

RELATED STORIES:

Mr Vanderpuye named one Nii Amass who he identified as responsible for firing gunshots which injured three persons, as being the initiator of the violence.

He alleged that it was Nii Amass’ actions that caused the NDC supporters to retaliate.

“No arrest has been made so far but I will be happy if every participant is picked up for peace to prevail in the constituency,” he urged.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the constituency as one of the areas where chaos is likely to erupt in the build-up to the December 7 polls.
