Sources within the regional command confirmed the incident, explaining that the officers were returning from night duty on a motorbike when unidentified assailants opened fire on them.

“The attackers laid an ambush and shot at the unsuspecting officers,” a source revealed, adding that both sustained serious injuries.

The victims were rushed to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga, where they are receiving emergency medical treatment.

Although the Ghana Immigration Service has not yet released an official statement, sources say a formal investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

The attack adds to a growing number of violent assaults targeting border security personnel in the northern regions. It comes barely a month after a similar incident at Gbintiri, where gunmen attacked two GIS officers at an inland checkpoint.

In that earlier assault, Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Rafiq Mohammed lost his life on the spot, while AICO II Oppong Daniel sustained critical injuries and remains under medical care.

Investigators later recovered an AK-47 shell and a service rifle with registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646 from the scene.

The recent attacks have sparked renewed concern about the safety of immigration officers working along Ghana’s borders, where security personnel often operate under difficult and high-risk conditions.

The family members gathered at the Adabraka District Court on Thursday, September4, as the case against the suspects resumed.

Speaking to JoyNews, a relative of the deceased said preliminary checks during preparations for burial revealed that portions of the late officer’s body were unaccounted for.

“We cannot lay him to rest like this. We need his complete remains,” a family member said, urging investigators and the suspects to provide clarity and hand over any outstanding parts to the family.

According ot the family, the situation has deepened their grief and stalled funeral arrangements, urging authorities to provide a swift and transparent explanation to enable a dignified burial.

Meanwhile, the Adabraka District Court has adjourned the case to October 9, 2025.

At the hearing on Thursday, September 4, prosecutors informed the court that the Ghana Police Service needed more time and specialised gadgets to advance investigations.

They confirmed that a court order had been secured to facilitate the process and prayed that the suspects, Bright Aweh and Thomas Ziggah, remain in custody.

Counsel for the suspects, Gordon Aboagye, raised concerns over the conditions under which they are being held.

He argued that, in line with democratic principles, families of the suspects should be aware of their location to enable visitation.

He further appealed to the bereaved family to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. He commiserated with them for their loss.

The court urged members of the family of the late officer to remain respectful and patient, assuring them that justice would take its full course.

Stephen King Amoah, 38, was reported missing on July 3, 2025, after leaving home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate.

His charred body was later discovered on July 9 at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya, sparking a manhunt and an intensive police investigation.

Immigration officer’s murder: Chaos as family accosts suspect’s lawyer at court premises http://34.58.148.58/immigration-officers-murder-chaos-as-family-accosts-suspects-lawyer-at-court-premises/ Fri, 22 Aug 2025 15:14:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2570190 Tensions flared outside the Adabraka District Court in Accra after proceedings in the case involving the alleged killing of immigration officer, Stephen King Amoah, were adjourned.

The second accused, Thomas Zigah, was brought before the court on Friday.

During proceedings, counsel for the accused pleaded with the court to allow his client to seek medical attention at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital instead of the Police Hospital, insisting that the suspect’s condition appeared deteriorated while in custody at the Railway Police Station.

The Counsel claimed the suspect had red eyes and required urgent care at an independent medical facility.

The prosecution opposed the request, noting that the suspect had already been taken to the Police Hospital twice, where he was treated and discharged.

They argued that defence counsel had not formally specified why Korle Bu should be preferred over the Police Hospital.

The court agreed, ruling that if the suspect’s health was in jeopardy, a formal application would have to be filed to request a change of hospital.

Defence counsel further suggested a one-week adjournment, reasoning that the prosecution had indicated the accused would be taken to the hospital again for the third time, and therefore a medical report should be provided as evidence.

The prosecution, however, opposed the adjournment, arguing that investigations had extended beyond Accra’s jurisdiction, requiring investigators to travel, and it would not be possible to conclude inquiries within a week.

The court declined the application for Korle Bu treatment and refused the one-week adjournment. The case was subsequently adjourned to September 4, 2025.

However, immediately after the adjournment, chaos broke out as members of the deceased officer’s family, who had been waiting outside, confronted the defense lawyer.

The family, visibly agitated, attempted to attack him as he made his way to his car.

The situation quickly escalated, forcing police officers present at the scene to intervene.

In the confusion, the lawyer was briefly mobbed before being escorted back into the courtroom for his safety.

He was later escorted to his car under tight police security to prevent further confrontation.

Suspect in immigration officer’s murder case remanded [Video] http://34.58.148.58/suspect-in-immigration-officers-murder-case-remanded-video/ Sat, 09 Aug 2025 06:26:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2565215

A solemn atmosphere surrounded the Adabraka District Court on Friday, August 8, 2025, as the man accused of a heinous crime against Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah was remanded into police custody for two weeks.

Bright Aweh, the prime suspect, is believed to be the last person to have seen the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer alive before his disappearance and subsequent gruesome murder.

The case has been adjourned to August 22, 2025, as the Ghana Police Service intensifies its investigation.

The murder of 38-year-old Stephen King Amoah has shocked the nation and highlighted the pervasive issue of violent crime.

Amoah was reported missing on July 3 after leaving his home at Ashongman Estate to meet a friend. Five days later, his partially burnt body was discovered in a gutter at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya.

The discovery of his charred remains marked a horrifying escalation in the case, which was initially treated as a kidnapping.

The reclassification of the case to murder reflects the gravity of the forensic evidence uncovered by the police.

In a plea for justice, the deceased’s sister, Vesta Amoah, spoke to the media outside the courtroom.

Her voice, thick with grief, resonated with the pain of a family shattered by tragedy.

“All that we’re asking is for justice to prevail. He was our lastborn. My mother is really broken; we are unable to eat or sleep. We’re full of pain. It’s always a foolish case; anytime someone is dead, we pray this time round justice will prevail.”

This case has drawn significant public attention, not only because of the victim’s profession but also due to the disturbing details revealed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

At a press briefing on Monday, August 4, 2025, the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, provided a timeline of events that painted a chilling picture of the crime.

According to COP Yaako, Amoah left his home on the night of July 3 after reportedly receiving photos of cash bundles from the suspect, Bright Aweh, who had promised to repay a debt.

When Amoah did not return home and his phone became unreachable, a missing person report was filed on July 4.

Police investigations quickly led them to Bright Aweh, who was arrested on July 6.

During interrogation, Aweh’s account was rife with inconsistencies.

He admitted to meeting Amoah and handing him GHC500,000 in cash, claiming GHC200,000 was to settle a debt and the rest was to be held by Amoah.

The dubious nature of this story and the unclear source of the money immediately raised red flags for investigators.

The discovery of Amoah’s burnt body on July 9 in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area provided a pivotal turning point. Subsequent forensic searches of Aweh’s residence and a secondary crime scene revealed a nightmare of evidence.

Inside the suspect’s residence, investigators found:

  • Blast stains (a forensic term for blood spatter) in the living room.
  • Signs of an attempted cleanup and freshly sprayed walls with an empty can of spray paint nearby.

The search expanded to a secondary crime scene, a crucial step in the investigation. There, police recovered:

  • A burnt woollen carpet stained with blood.
  • A partially burnt camouflage fabric.
  • A fufu pestle soaked in blood was found hidden in a bush about 100 metres from Aweh’s home.

Additionally, police impounded the suspect’s vehicle, which also had traces of blood.

All evidence has been sent for forensic analysis, and DNA samples from the deceased’s mother and son are being used for profiling to confirm the identity of the remains.

Suspect in the alleged killing of Immigration Officer gives conflicting accounts http://34.58.148.58/suspect-in-the-alleged-killing-of-immigration-officer-gives-conflicting-accounts/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 17:12:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553942 The Greater Accra Regional Police Command says the prime suspect in the alleged murder of an immigration officer has been giving conflicting accounts during interrogation.

Bright Aweh, 32, is accused of luring the deceased, Steffen King Amoah, into a meeting under the pretext of settling a financial matter before the officer was later found dead.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the suspect told investigators that he gave GH₵500,000 to the late officer to settle a debt and keep the remainder for him. However, he has failed to disclose the source of the money.

The police revealed that on July 3, 2025, Aweh sent images of bundles of cash to Amoah via WhatsApp and requested to meet him at Ashongman Estate around 8:00 p.m. to resolve some financial matters.

Aweh later admitted to handing over the cash to Amoah, but police say his statements have been inconsistent.

Tragically, the burnt body of 38-year-old Immigration Officer Steffen King Amoah, who had been declared missing on July 3, was found in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate, in Accra.

Despite the extent of the burns, family members confirmed the identity of the deceased.

Acting swiftly on the missing person report, a team of investigators from the Taifa Police arrested the suspect, who remains in custody.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has condemned the killing and assured the public of a thorough investigation. They are also urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing probe.

Family of slain Immigration Officer gives key details on his death http://34.58.148.58/family-of-slain-immigration-officer-gives-key-details-on-his-death/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 11:59:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553430 The family of the immigration officer who was recently found dead has publicly confirmed that the body discovered by police is indeed that of their missing relative, Steffen King Amoah.

This clarification comes in response to earlier reports suggesting the family had denied the identification. According to his brother, the initial denial was made out of respect for their grieving mother and wife, as the family did not want them to learn about the tragedy through social media.

“We were informed by the police that a body had been located, and since we had reported our relative missing, we were asked to come for identification. We were first taken to the location where the burnt body was found. Then the police led us to the mortuary where we identified him,” the brother said.

The family confirmed that the body is currently at the police mortuary as investigations continue.

A suspect, identified as Bright, who was reportedly the last known person to have been with Steffen, has since been arrested.

“He was arrested even before news of my brother’s death became public. Bright was the last person to have been with him. The arrest was based on suspicious messages traced back to him,” the brother revealed.

The suspect has already appeared in court, pleaded not guilty, and has been remanded for two weeks.

According to the family, the officer left home on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. and never returned. His disappearance prompted an immediate search after he could no longer be reached by phone.

The last message sent from his phone to his wife at 8:42 p.m. read:
I finally got home, Bright has gave me all the money 500,000 and gave me all the passports so I am home. I will call you tomorrow morning.

The family, however, became suspicious of the message because the tone and phrasing did not reflect how Steffen usually communicated.

“We knew something was wrong. That’s not how he writes or talks,” the brother explained.

The grieving family is now calling for answers and demanding justice.

“We want the full truth. We need closure. We want justice for Steffen King Amoah.”

It was an emotional sight as parents and other relatives of the late Immigration officer, Michael Ekow Otu who was killed while on duty, struggled with tears at his funeral.

According to his heartbroken mother, Elizabeth Otu, Michael was all she had, adding he provided for her needs.

The 24-year-old was shot dead by unknown assailants at Kokoligu, a village between Nandom and Hamile in the Upper West Region.

For reasons she could not explain, Madam Otu said she tried everything possible to convince her son to ask for a transfer from his duty post.

However, he declined and explained that, his duty post was as a result of his level of education only to meet his death.

Though she admitted Michael cannot be brought back to life, she called for an expeditious investigation into the matter for the suspects to face the full rigorous of the law.
