Ntim Fordjour on helicopter crash http://34.58.148.58/ghanaians-should-blame-the-ndc-for-this-tragedy-rev-ntim-fordjour-on-helicopter-crash/ Mon, 08 Dec 2025 12:22:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2608206 Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has sparked national debate by holding the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) responsible for the helicopter crash that claimed the life of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and other officers.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam on Monday, the Assin South MP argued that the tragedy could have been avoided if the NDC had not opposed the procurement of a new presidential jet and additional helicopters for the Ghana Armed Forces during the Akufo-Addo administration.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour contended that the NDC’s position in Parliament at the time stalled critical investments that would have strengthened the military’s aviation capabilities.

“Ghanaians should blame the NDC for this tragedy,” he asserted.
“If they had not resisted the government’s plans to purchase a presidential jet and new helicopters, this sad incident could have been prevented.”

He further highlighted the current challenges facing the Ghana Armed Forces, noting a shortage of functional aircraft, particularly helicopters needed for emergency, medical, and operational duties.

“The Army has no well-functioning helicopter. Their equipment situation is worrying,” he said.
“This is what happens when politics is placed above national security.”

Helicopter crash report overlooks pilots’ mental State – Walewale MP http://34.58.148.58/helicopter-crash-report-overlooks-pilots-mental-state-walewale-mp/ Sat, 15 Nov 2025 14:32:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600348 Walewale MP and Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, has criticised the recently released report on the military helicopter crash.

He argued that it failed to address vital questions about the pilots’ psychological state and the true cause of the incident.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Dr Abdul-Kabiru said the document does little to help the public understand what truly happened in the moments leading up to the crash.

“Unfortunately, the report hasn’t helped much, because we know that when a helicopter is going to crash… what was the psychological framework of the pilots at the time that they were using the aircraft?” he asked.

“They should know, because they were talking to families, they were talking to people they should know.”

The MP stressed that the report is laden with technical language that does not address the real concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.

“It is technical jargon that the good people of Ghana are not interested in,” he said. “Even if you are saying there was a sudden loss of altitude, you have not told us what caused the loss of altitude. Was it a mechanical fault or was it human error?”

Dr Abdul-Kabiru also raised questions about missing details regarding cockpit communications, noting that conversations between the pilots could have included sensitive or security-related information.

He said it was concerning that the report failed to reference the contents of the aircraft’s black box, which he understands was retrieved.

“Nothing in the report has referred to what was contained,” he stated. “The pilot probably would have said that due to A, B, C, they were experiencing some turbulence and whatever.”

Calling for a clearer and more comprehensive explanation, the Walewale MP insisted that the families of the victims and the wider public deserve more transparent answers rather than vague technical summaries.

Col. Festus Aboagye calls on government to release full helicopter crash report http://34.58.148.58/col-festus-aboagye-calls-on-government-to-release-full-helicopter-crash-report/ Thu, 13 Nov 2025 11:06:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2599499 Security Analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye (Rtd), has urged the John Mahama administration to make public the full investigative report into the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including senior government officials.

His call follows the submission of the final report by the investigating committee to President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, November 10, during a National Security Council meeting at the Jubilee House.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Col. Aboagye emphasized the importance of transparency given the scale of the tragedy and the public concern it has sparked.

“I have seen snippets of it on social media. We, as Ghanaians, deserve to see the report in full,” he said. “This is a matter of public interest. The loss of lives has affected several people and institutions, and it raises serious questions about our preparedness and ability to manage emergencies.”

The report, chaired by Acting Minister for Defence Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, concluded that the Ghana Air Force helicopter experienced a sudden loss of altitude due to a strong downdraft while flying through unstable weather conditions. It also noted that both pilots were “highly qualified and fully competent,” effectively ruling out human error as the primary cause of the crash.

The helicopter had departed Accra at around 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining exercise but lost radar contact less than an hour into the flight.

Col. Aboagye reiterated that publishing the full report would promote accountability, improve institutional learning, and help prevent similar aviation disasters in the future.

Explainer: How Ghana’s Z-9 helicopter crashed http://34.58.148.58/explainer-how-ghanas-z-9-helicopter-crashed/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 16:04:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598786 On the morning of August 6, 2025, a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter operating a scheduled flight from Accra to Obuasi crashed in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board.

The aircraft had three crew members and five passengers, including the Minister of Defence and his entourage.

It was one of the Air Force’s serviceable aircraft that had been used in various assignments, including medical evacuations and cargo transport. On the day of the incident, the crew delayed their departure from Accra due to poor weather conditions across southern Ghana.

They waited until the weather improved slightly and eventually departed from Accra at 9:12 a.m. The weather at takeoff was misty, with visibility ranging between five and seven kilometres, and low clouds beginning at about seven hundred feet above ground level.

The crew flew under Visual Flight Rules, a method that allows pilots to navigate using visual cues rather than relying only on instruments. Throughout the flight, they adjusted altitude to avoid patches of low clouds and poor visibility.

As the helicopter moved north toward Obuasi, weather conditions deteriorated significantly. Eyewitnesses in towns such as Brofiedru and in the Dampia Forest Reserve area described the weather as foggy, with light rain and poor visibility.

The visibility in some parts dropped to about two hundred metres, which is dangerously low for visual navigation. The area also has rugged and hilly terrain that is known to create turbulent wind currents and downdrafts during unstable weather.

At about 9:56 a.m., as the helicopter neared Obuasi, the crew encountered thick cloud and mist and entered what is called Instrument Meteorological Conditions. This means they could no longer see the ground or the surrounding terrain and had to depend fully on their cockpit instruments to continue flying.

They transitioned from Visual Flight Rules to Instrument Flight Rules. The cockpit voice recording captured the crew remarking that they could see high ground below and believed they had cleared it. However, only moments later, the aircraft suddenly lost altitude.

There was no sign of mechanical failure or loss of power, but the helicopter descended rapidly and struck the hilly forested area about six and a half miles from Obuasi at approximately 9:58 a.m.

Emergency teams reached the crash site about two hours later despite the heavy rain and difficult terrain. Investigators described the response as timely, considering the steep slopes and slippery conditions that made access extremely challenging.

The impact destroyed the aircraft completely and left no survivors. Subsequent recovery and technical analysis focused on the aircraft’s maintenance, the condition of the crew, the weather, and the operational standards of the Air Force.

The investigation established that the Z-9 helicopter was airworthy at the time of the accident. It had been manufactured in 2012 and delivered to the Ghana Air Force in 2015. The aircraft reached its ten-year service threshold in May 2025, but the manufacturer approved a ninety-day extension that was valid until August 18, 2025.

Prior to the flight, it underwent a mandatory hundred-hour maintenance inspection, and both engineers and the captain signed it off as serviceable. Data retrieved from the flight recorder confirmed that all major systems were functioning normally before impact.

Despite being airworthy, the aircraft lacked some advanced safety systems that could have helped the pilots manage the situation better in poor weather.

These included a Terrain Awareness and Warning System, an advanced autopilot or automatic flight control system, and enhanced terrain-mapping navigation tools.

The absence of these safety features meant that the pilots had to manually control the helicopter at all times, increasing their workload and limiting situational awareness during instrument flying. The investigators strongly recommended that future Air Force aircraft be equipped with such systems to improve flight safety.

The flight crew were found to be competent, well-trained, and medically fit. The captain held a green instrument rating, which was the highest level available within the Ghana Air Force. He was an experienced pilot who had flown multiple assignments on the same helicopter.

The co-pilot had obtained his FAA commercial and instrument-rated license from the Bristol Academy in Florida in April 2023.

Medical and psychological records showed no signs of fatigue, illness, or medication use that could have affected their performance. Both pilots had rested for over twenty-four hours before the flight, which exceeded the Air Force’s rest requirement.

The investigation found no evidence of engine failure, fuel exhaustion, or maintenance lapses.

The analysis of the flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder, radar information, and weather data indicated that the crash resulted from a combination of poor weather and environmental conditions over the mountainous terrain near Obuasi.

The helicopter suddenly lost altitude and lift as it flew through strong downward air currents known as downdrafts.

A downdraft is a column of air that moves rapidly downward, especially in rugged areas where warm and moist air collides with cooler air layers. When this happens, even an aircraft with normal power can be forced downward faster than it can climb.

The investigation concluded that the direct cause of the accident was a sudden loss of altitude and lift due to downdraft.

The flight data showed that the loss of altitude occurred without any change in engine power or control input from the pilots, confirming that it was an external environmental factor rather than a mechanical or human error.

The downdraft was consistent with changing atmospheric conditions over the high terrain of the Dampia Forest Reserve, where the weather had created unstable air currents.

Helicopter crash response timely despite harsh terrain – Captain Forjoe http://34.58.148.58/helicopter-crash-response-timely-despite-harsh-terrain-captain-forjoe/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 15:30:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598762 Captain Paul Forjoe, a retired pilot and senior aviation engineer with the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), has praised the swift and courageous response of emergency teams following the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two government ministers and senior officials.

Speaking during the official presentation of the investigative report, Captain Forjoe highlighted the difficult conditions under which the first responders operated, describing their efforts as remarkable.

“The fact that these first responders managed to reach the site in about two hours was remarkable, considering the terrain had very steep slopes. It was raining and slippery, so it wasn’t an easy task… we can confidently say the emergency response was very timely,” he commended.

The fatal crash involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter, tail number GHF 631, which took off from Accra at around 9:12 a.m. on August 6, heading to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for an anti-illegal mining mission. The aircraft reportedly lost radar contact before crashing in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

All eight people on board perished, including: Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chair; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Captain Forjoe recounted the challenges faced by the rescue teams navigating treacherous terrain amid heavy rainfall to reach the wreckage.

“When we went to the site, it was raining and very slippery. We had to use sticks and other tools to make our way up there,” he recalled.

The investigation team also commended the coordinated efforts of local authorities and the Ghana Armed Forces, whose actions helped manage the tragedy despite the harsh environmental and logistical challenges.

Helicopter crash: Committee rules out mid-air explosion http://34.58.148.58/helicopter-crash-committee-rules-out-mid-air-explosion/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 14:17:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598731 The committee investigating the August 6 helicopter crash has dismissed claims of a mid-air explosion, confirming that the blast occurred only after the aircraft struck the ground.

Presenting the findings in Accra on Tuesday, November 11, the committee chair, Captain (Rtd) Paul Forjoe, stated that the crash resulted from a sudden loss of altitude and lift caused by a powerful downdraft.

He noted that while the helicopter lacked certain modern safety systems, their absence was not a factor in the accident.

“If these additional safety enhancements had been available, the Air Force would certainly have welcomed them, as they improve safety for our dignitaries. However, it would be inaccurate to claim that the lack of such systems caused the crash,” Captain Forjoe explained.

He also clarified that there was no explosion in mid-air.

“The Z-9 helicopter’s fuel tank is located beneath the passenger compartment. The aircraft was fully fuelled, so the explosion occurred only upon ground impact,” he added.

The investigative committee, established shortly after the incident, was tasked with determining the causes of the crash and recommending measures to prevent future accidents. The inquiry examined technical, operational, and environmental factors.

The crash involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) operated by the Ghana Air Force. The aircraft departed Accra around 9:12 a.m. for an anti-illegal-mining operation in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, before losing radar contact and crashing in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

Z-9 helicopter crash: The captain was confident and saw no need for an emergency landing – AIB investigator http://34.58.148.58/z-9-helicopter-crash-the-captain-was-confident-and-saw-no-need-for-an-emergency-landing-aib-investigator/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 13:50:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598723 An investigator with the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), Captain Paul Forjoe, has revealed that the pilot of the ill-fated Z-9 helicopter did not deem an emergency landing necessary before the crash.

Speaking to journalists during the presentation of the Z-9 Accident Report at the Flagstaff House in Accra, Captain Forjoe explained that emergency landings are typically made when a fault or abnormal condition is detected. In this case, however, the pilot appeared confident that the aircraft was under control.

“All I would say is that an emergency landing could have prevented the accident because it would have placed the pilots in a better situational awareness mode, enabling them to make decisions that might have helped avoid the crash. But let’s not kid ourselves,” he stated.

Captain Forjoe also highlighted the need for the Ghana Air Force to be equipped with enhanced flight systems and safety tools to improve operations and protect high-profile passengers.

“It’s like saying more meat never spoils the soup. These additional enhancements would really help. The Air Force understands how much they improve safety, especially for dignitaries. That’s why we’re recommending them,” he said.

He clarified, however, that the absence of these enhancements was not the cause of the accident.

“It would be wrong to suggest the accident happened because those systems were not there. That would be too far-fetched,” he added.

Regarding reports of an explosion, Captain Forjoe explained that there was no explosion prior to the crash. The Z-9 helicopter’s fuel tank, located beneath the passenger seating area, ignited upon impact.

“The aircraft was on a flight to Obuasi and back. It wasn’t going to refuel there, so it had a full fuel load. The explosion occurred only on impact,” he noted.

The investigative committee was established shortly after the tragic crash to determine its causes and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Helicopter crash: Committee recommends urgent safety upgrades http://34.58.148.58/helicopter-crash-committee-recommends-urgent-safety-upgrades/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 13:31:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598702 The committee investigating the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash has recommended an urgent modernisation of the Ghana Air Force (GAF) fleet and upgrades to aviation safety systems to prevent similar tragedies.

Presenting the findings in Accra on Tuesday, November 11, Captain (Rtd) Paul Forjoe, who chaired the investigative committee, stressed the need for modern aircraft equipped with terrain avoidance warning systems, advanced navigation tools, and flight recorders with both voice and audiovisual capabilities.

He also highlighted the importance of recurrent training using certified simulators, employing aviation experts, and establishing en route navigational aids, particularly in remote areas.

“There is a definite need to modernise the Ghana Air Force fleet. While the August 6 crash was a sudden, weather-related incident, implementing these safety measures will greatly enhance operational safety and help prevent future occurrences,” Captain Forjoe said.

Key Recommendations:

  • Acquire modern aircraft fitted with terrain avoidance and advanced navigation systems.
  • Install voice recorders and audiovisual-capable flight data recorders.
  • Invest in simulators for regular training and employ certified aviation professionals.
  • Develop navigational aids and tracking systems along flight routes, especially in rural areas.
  • Modernise ground support equipment to improve overall operational safety.

Cause of August 6 helicopter crash revealed http://34.58.148.58/cause-of-august-6-helicopter-crash-revealed/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 13:28:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598713 Investigations into the tragic August 6 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people at Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region have concluded that the accident was caused by a sudden loss of altitude and lift due to a powerful downdraft.

Aviation expert and leader of the investigative committee, Captain Paul Forjoe, disclosed this while presenting the report during a public broadcast on Tuesday, November 11.

Captain Forjoe explained that the aircraft encountered a rapid downward air current while flying over high terrain, resulting in a sudden drop in altitude from which the crew could not recover.

“The investigation determined that the accident was caused by the sudden loss of altitude and lift due to downdraft. This loss of altitude without any change in power or pitch attitude is consistent with downdrafts associated with changing environmental conditions over high terrain,” the report stated.

Experts noted that downdrafts—strong downward winds often linked to turbulent weather or mountainous regions—can severely affect an aircraft’s ability to maintain altitude, particularly during low-level flights.

Captain Forjoe also confirmed that the helicopter was airworthy and met all basic safety requirements before the crash, though it lacked some advanced safety enhancements.

He added that the crew, who had completed three previous flights that same day, were fully qualified, medically fit, and well-rested before the incident.

The committee’s full report was submitted to President John Mahama and the National Security Council by Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Monday, November 10.

At a press briefing, Captain (Rtd) Paul Forjoe provided details of the report, noting that the Harbin Z-9EH helicopter, operated by the Ghana Air Force, did not have essential safety systems such as the Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS/EGPWS), advanced terrain mapping navigation, and automatic flight control systems.

“The aircraft was declared serviceable and signed off by the pilot, who was fully competent to operate it,” Captain Forjoe said.

The committee, established shortly after the crash, was tasked with determining the cause of the incident and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.

The ill-fated helicopter, tail number GHF 631, took off from Accra around 9:12 a.m., en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on an anti-illegal mining operation. It lost radar contact and crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District, resulting in the deaths of all eight passengers and crew on board.

The victims included the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice-Chair, Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The investigation, led by National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak, involved collaboration with the Ghana Air Force, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and international aviation experts. The committee’s findings are expected to guide the implementation of stronger safety protocols and upgrades in military aviation operations.

5 injured after helicopter crashes into palm trees at popular California beach http://34.58.148.58/5-injured-after-helicopter-crashes-into-palm-trees-at-popular-california-beach/ Sun, 12 Oct 2025 14:46:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2587525 An investigation is underway after a helicopter crashed into a pedestrian bridge in Huntington Beach on Saturday afternoon, injuring several people.

The aircraft came down on the pedestrian bridge in the beach parking lot between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard around 2 p.m., according to a statement from the City of Huntington Beach. The parking is across the street from several hotels on Pacific Coast Highway.

Video shows the moments before and after a helicopter crashed in Huntington Beach, California on Saturday.

“I never thought that that would happen, never in a million years,” one witness said.

The wreckage was wedged inside trees against the front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Citizen app video shows first responders at the scene, along with bystanders.

“We were at the beach, just catching some waves, then we heard this loud ‘pop, pop,’ we turn around, and we just see the helicopter come crashing down,” another witness said.

Huntington Beach police said two people who were inside the helicopter were safely pulled from the wreckage in unknown condition. Three pedestrians were injured, according to police. All five individuals were taken to the hospital. Further details on the extent of their injuries were unknown.

The beach was crowded with people in town for an event called Cars N’ Copters. The helicopter involved in the crash was scheduled to take part in the event, the city confirmed. At last check, the event is still scheduled to take place on Sunday.

“I heard the ‘pop, pop’ and I was like, ‘No, he’s going down,'” a witness told ABC7. “This could have been a lot worse, a lot worse. There was hundreds of people lined up. It could have been a lot worse.”

Officials said the NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash.

Beachgoers said they were thankful for the swift response from first responders.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified.

Eyewitness News reached out to both the FAA and NTSB, and both sent automatic replies saying that during the government shutdown, they would not be able to reply to all inquiries.

Sikaman residents to receive trauma support after fatal helicopter crash http://34.58.148.58/sikaman-residents-to-receive-trauma-support-after-fatal-helicopter-crash/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 10:46:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2582363 Residents of Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region are set to undergo psychological therapy weeks after a military helicopter crash claimed eight lives, leaving the community in deep shock.

The tragedy occurred on August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z-9 helicopter crashed into the Sikaman forest, reportedly hitting a tree before catching fire. All eight passengers on board were burnt beyond recognition.

The victims included Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, former Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, the pilot; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Two Muslim victims were buried on August 10, while the remaining six were laid to rest on August 15 at the Tse Addo Military Cemetery in Accra. President John Dramani Mahama later approved posthumous promotions for the fallen officers.

To address the community’s trauma, government psychologists have been deployed to assess the emotional impact and conduct therapy sessions for affected residents.

Assembly Member for Sikaman, Mathew Baah, told Adom News that the team has already met with the traditional council and will return to hold therapy sessions.

“The community has been deeply affected by this tragedy, and the psychologists will help those struggling with the mental toll,” Mr. Baah said.

He also noted an unusual development in the area: the sudden appearance of black flies two weeks after the crash.

“They come in the morning, disappear in the afternoon, and return in the evening. They haven’t caused health problems yet, but their presence is strange,” he explained. Authorities are yet to determine whether the invasion of black flies is linked to the crash or to environmental changes.

‘We would have reversed helicopter crash disaster if… ’ – Asiedu Nketia http://34.58.148.58/we-would-have-reversed-helicopter-crash-disaster-if-asiedu-nketia/ Mon, 25 Aug 2025 06:12:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2570605 National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says the party and government would have reversed the August 6 helicopter disaster if it were within their power.

Speaking at the final funeral rites of the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna—one of the eight victims—Mr. Nketia described the tragedy as an irreparable national loss.

“If there were anything that the NDC, whether in government or as a party, could have done to reverse this calamity, it would certainly have been done. But sadly, no effort of ours can restore Honourable Limuna to life,” he said.

He noted the widespread grief across the political divide and urged that focus now shift to the families left behind. Mr. Nketia reminded mourners that President John Mahama had directed the creation of a fund to support the dependants of the victims.

“What should now occupy our thoughts is how to ensure that the families left behind are supported. That is why His Excellency the President instructed the establishment of a fund to care for the dependants of all who lost their lives in the August 6 tragedy,” he explained.

The NDC chairman also appealed for unity, stressing that the solidarity displayed at the funeral should be preserved. He said the gathering ought to serve not only as a tribute to the fallen but also as the beginning of a renewed commitment to northern cohesion and national cooperation.

The crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of senior government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, NDC Vice-Chairman Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel who manned the aircraft.

The funeral of Alhaji Limuna, who also reigned as Sandape-Wura Buwulonso I, brought thousands of mourners to Damongo on Sunday, including traditional leaders, government representatives, political figures, and members of the diplomatic community.

Helicopter crash: I couldn’t eat for two days – Former MP http://34.58.148.58/helicopter-crash-i-couldnt-eat-for-two-days-former-mp/ Thu, 21 Aug 2025 10:01:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2569627 Former Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker, has revealed that he went without food for two days following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two cabinet ministers.

He explained that the news left him deeply saddened and unable to eat, given the circumstances surrounding the victims’ deaths.

According to him, the victims were on their way to launch a programme aimed at tackling illegal mining, an issue that has long posed challenges for the country.

Mr. Duker noted that the previous government had introduced several interventions to address galamsey, but these efforts fell short largely because the fight has been overly politicised.

He stressed that the war against illegal mining can only be effective if removed from political influence.

He also cautioned against blaming Ministers of Lands and Natural Resources for the persistence of galamsey, pointing out that they are primarily responsible for policy implementation, not law enforcement.

“When it comes to crime, it is the responsibility of the security agencies to arrest and prosecute offenders,” he stated.

Mr. Duker added that the battle against illegal mining remains difficult because the financial gains are so high that government alternatives cannot compete. He reiterated his belief that depoliticising the fight is the only way forward.

Air Force pilots are too experienced and disciplined to crash helicopter – Adutwum http://34.58.148.58/air-force-pilots-are-too-experienced-and-disciplined-to-crash-helicopter-adutwum/ Tue, 19 Aug 2025 09:28:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2568793 Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has opened up on aviation safety and Ghana’s broader development agenda.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, Dr. Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, expressed disbelief, recalling his own experiences aboard the Air Force’s aircraft.

On the recent military aviation tragedy, Dr. Adutwum believes the Air Force pilots are too experienced and disciplined to crash the helicopter.

“I have boarded the Air Force helicopter several times, and I never felt it could even crash because of the experienced and disciplined pilots and its smooth ride. I am still in a state of shock,” he stated.

The former minister criticised what he described as “slash and burn politics,” warning that such practices risk undermining national progress. He blamed the NDC for the inability of the Akufo-Addo government to sufficiently retool the Ghana Air Force.

“When Nana Addo decided to buy aircraft for the military, the then opposition MPs rose against it and played politics around it. The ‘slash and burn politics’ can put the lives of all Ghanaians at risk and eventually make politicians look stupid,” he cautioned.

According to him, politicians must learn to recognize and support the positive initiatives of the opposition in order to build the nation collectively.

“We cannot continue to demonize all the contributions of our political opponents for political gains. I believe if what a particular government is doing will help the nation, we must all support it and avoid unnecessary criticisms,” he stated.

Dr. Adutwum, however, highlighted the camaraderie that often exists in Parliament behind the scenes.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 16, Dr Asante stressed that adequately resourcing the military is critical to ensuring safety and efficiency in their operations.

“We need to look at GAF and the resources available to them. This tragic accident must push us to reflect on whether our military has what it needs to work safely and effectively,” he stated.

He emphasised that beyond mourning the fallen officers and government officials, the nation must confront systemic challenges that may have contributed to the crash.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.

I’m in great pain; your death is hard to bear – Haruna Iddrisu mourns Dr. Omane Boamah http://34.58.148.58/im-in-great-pain-your-death-is-hard-to-bear-haruna-iddrisu-mourns-dr-omane-boamah/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 14:25:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2567635 Tribute to late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah by Haruna Iddrisu, Education Minister.

With a heart crushed beneath the weight of grief, I stand before a world that commiserates in sadness, a nation that is grief-stricken, and the family of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah that can only be utterly shaken to the core, to pay this untimely tribute in my capacity as a colleague Cabinet Minister to the Minister for Defence of the Republic of Ghana until that tragic event of Wednesday, 6th August, 2025.

On that fateful day, since dubbed Ghana’s Black Wednesday, Dr. Omane Boamah, was onboard a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter together with seven others, namely: Hon. Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed–MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Limuna Muniru–Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of our National Democratic Congress, Samuel Aboagye–former parliamentary candidate, and the flight crew of Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The group was en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) when their aircraft came down near Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District in unconfirmed circumstances.

All eight gallant Ghanaians perished in what Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah, described as a national tragedy.

As a nation, we are grief-stricken and mourn as we do because never in the history of Ghana has such a fate befallen us, for high-ranking state officials of that stature to be lost as they were on that dark day.

We grieve but submit to the ways of the all-knowing Allah. Because as we faithfully hold, it is Allah’s will that what happened happened and happened as it did, gruesome and devastating as it is.

It is particularly so for Dr. Omane Boamah for whom this eulogy goes, because we know he was earlier not scheduled to be on that ill-fated flight. What a tragic loss! He was simply formidable, thoughtful, and strategic in all he did, a political thinker whose singular preoccupation was Mahama’s success, driven by his love for mother Ghana.

You were a founding member of the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) with Kwesi Pratt, Bernard Mornah, and Kwesi Adu, among others.

From the night John Mahama conceded to the outcome of the 2016 elections to your untimely and tragic death in a helicopter crash, you served with unalloyed loyalty, dedication, and unwavering commitment. Ghana has lost an exemplary public servant and son.

You told me and Rita that you were not interested and not likely to accept an appointment into His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s “Second Coming.”

You told me there were only two threats (to be shared in the future or at a later date) and God that could stand in the way of now President Mahama’s return, and you worked with your small team to make it happen.

It is an irony of fate that the Minister of Defence was bereft of the defence he deserved when it mattered most, and the medical doctor was left with no option for emergency care.

Sad and, as it were, unacceptable as it is, who are we, mere mortals, to question the script of the All-Powerful yet Ever Merciful God?

Even as we’ve been to the family house to commiserate with the inconsolable Rita and the rest of the family, my heartfelt condolences go to them and the children again.

Edward, your death is a terrible blow and very hard to bear, as you died in such a tragic way in the line of duty.

May your blood so painfully shed be the caustic cleaning agent that purifies our water bodies from the pollution of heavy metals and restores our degraded forests from the evil of illegal small-scale mining, otherwise known as “galamsey.”

Omane Boamah and I, besides being trusted and able lieutenants as Cabinet Ministers of His Excellency the President, John Dramani Mahama, share in common a number of notable roles since our respective student days.

In that sense and in reality, he was a younger brother to me, and a dear one at that. I am in great pain.

As I was from 1996 to 1997 in a memorable and epoch-making tenure, Edward was also President of the National Union of Ghana Students during his student days at the University of Ghana Medical School.

His efficiency and political acumen were honed from those times as he combined the demands of medical education with student politics, also serving as the Coordinating Secretary of the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association.

Again, Omane received my handing-over notes in 2013 as he succeeded me as Minister of Communications during President Mahama’s first presidency.

At a time when that portfolio was combined with that of Information, he concurrently and ably served as the Spokesman for His Excellency the President.

Previously, he had served in Deputy Ministerial capacities for Environment, Science and Technology and also for Youth and Sports during the tenure of our late and beloved President John Evans Atta Mills.

At a time when youth were not being credited with much experience and capacity, Omane Boamah was part of the corpus of young and vibrant political activists whom President Mills purposefully sought to challenge with ministerial portfolios.

And by the grace of God and by virtue of our preparation and the support of Ghanaians high and low, we delivered and lived up to the high expectation of us.

Indeed, I was particularly tasked by the Venerable Ato Awhoi to recruit some of such student activists from NUGS to be appointed Ministers and Omane Boamah turned out to be one such vibrant and promising young politician.

Indeed, Omane Boamah has been described as the midwife who helped deliver NDC’s resounding 2024 electoral victory in his capacity as the party’s untiring Director of Elections and IT.

His brilliance and ability to quickly find solutions to problems and as a strategist inspired President John Mahama to entrust him with the high office of Defence Minister.

It is regrettable that you have been so cruelly snatched away from us just seven months into the victory you worked so hard to achieve, and while our arduous duty to reset Ghana has just begun.

Like a gallant warrior, you went on an important mission to help save our nation from the canker of “galamsey”.

As Defence Minister, you led the charge in a military helicopter to help battle Ghana’s current existential threat of illegal small-scale mining. You showed leadership.

But alas, and heart-wrenchingly so, it was a mission of no return. But as the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church—as your beloved Pope John’s Senior High School and Minor Seminary would have taught you—your work and the ultimate price you paid will never be forgotten.

I have lost a brother and a friend. Only you could calm me because you understood my irrepressible and optimistic temperament. You would tell them, “Leave Haruna to me.”

As we commit the mortal remains of my friend, brother, and colleague into the bosom of Mother Earth, I hark to the words of the immortal lines the Armed Forces call forth to bid farewell to their fallen heroes—the Binyon Verses: Omane, “[You] shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary [you], nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember [you].

Rest in perfect peace, Dr. Omane Boamah. The memory of you was to work for Mahama to succeed.

Yes, indeed, and you began to succeed in that resolve with our electoral victory.
Fare thee well. My brother and friend, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah—Minister for Defence of the Republic of Ghana: January 20, 2025, to August 6, 2025.

Biography of Samuel Kwaku Adu Aboagye http://34.58.148.58/biography-of-samuel-kwaku-adu-aboagye/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 12:32:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2567572 Samuel Kwaku Adu Aboagye – Deputy Director-General of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

It is often said that the hour of death cannot be foretold. Though we acknowledge this truth, we tend to believe that such a moment lies far ahead in time. Never did we imagine that today, we would be gathered here to remember and mourn our brother Hon. Samuel Aboagye, whose body we cannot identify.

Adu Kwaku, as the family calls him, was born on December 23, 1990, in Damongo, in the Savannah Region of Ghana.

His parents are the late Mr. Jeremiah Kwabena Aboagye and Madam Ama Ajubi. The father was an Agric Extension officer at Damongo and later became a businessman upon his retirement and came home to Adansi-Patakoro.

The late father was the chief of Patakoro in the early ’80s. He was the last child of his parents (Kakyere).

Early life

Hon. Samuel Aboagye started his primary school at the Damongo Cambridge Educational Complex. He joined his parents to return to Obuasi since his father had retired and was getting older.

He continued his education at Bekwai, Victory International Complex, and wrote his BECE at St. Philip Catholic Int. School at Tutuka-Obuasi in 2006.

He was enrolled at St. Margaret Senior High from 2007 to 2010 for his secondary education.

He had his first degree from Accra Business School and proceeded to do his master’s programme  in business administration between the years of 2020 and 2024.

Christian life

Adu was a Christian and member of the Church of Pentecost. He was baptized in water at Damongo in the year 2005. He prides himself as a member of the Church of Pentecost because the whole family attends the Church of Pentecost, of which his elder brother is a pastor.

His love for God and things in the church was admirable.

He was someone who did not hide his Christian faith and was always ready to contribute his quota to the growth and development of his church.

Professional life

Hon. Samuel Aboagye was a promising young man full of business ideas. With the help of his family, he made his first business trip to Germany in 2013 and later to the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA).

During this period, he also served as a FIFA-licensed agent, engaging in international sports management and building valuable global networks.

He returned to Ghana in 2017 to serve his country and his hometown, Adansi, until the Black Wednesday of this tragic incident, which claimed his life. He was married to Abigail Salami and had two children, all girls.

Political life

Hon. Samuel Aboagye was the parliamentary candidate for the NDC, Obuasi East Constituency, in the 2020 elections.

He was again the parliamentary candidate in the 2024 elections, which he won, but administrative errors on the side of the electoral commission wrongfully announced the win to his opponent, for which the case is pending in the law court.

The President, John Dramani Mahama, then appointed him as the Deputy Director General of NADMO. It was in this capacity, serving his people and his country, that he got involved in this tragic helicopter crash.

Transition to glory

On the morning of Wednesday, 6th August 2025, news broke out in the social media about a helicopter crash; little did we know that our brother was part of the people who were on the plane.

The news sends shockwaves through the family and friends; even now, it remains difficult to accept that our son, brother, and friend is no more with us.

The family investment in our brother has gone to waste. Why so soon, Sammy? We take comfort in the Lord that death is not the end; it is but a brief rest for those who walk with the Lord. Indeed, his passing is a profound loss to the family, the church, and the community.

Adu Kwaku, hmmmmm!

May His soul Rest In Perfect Peace.

Damirifa due, Brother.

It is difficult to put into words the weight of such loss – Mahama http://34.58.148.58/it-is-difficult-to-put-into-words-the-weight-of-such-loss-mahama/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 11:35:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2567482 President John Dramani Mahama has described the August 6 Sikaman helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives, as a tragedy that “forever casts its shadow over the heart of Ghana.”

Speaking at the state funeral in Accra, the President said the loss was not just a national tragedy but also a personal heartbreak, as the victims were trusted colleagues, advisors, and friends.

He paid glowing tribute to Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammad Muniru Limuna, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, NADMO Deputy Director General Samuel Aboagye, and three Ghana Armed Forces crew members — Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

“It is difficult to put into words the weight of such loss. The grief we feel is not only the sorrow of individuals but the collective mourning of a people. Ghana has lost leaders whose work touched every corner of our Republic — leaders whose service was not measured in days, but in their impact and the lives they touched.

“They did not seek recognition or applause; they were giving of themselves, without hesitation, for the good of Ghana. Their final act was one of service, and that is how they will be remembered,” Mahama said.

The President assured the nation that a full and transparent investigation into the crash would be conducted to prevent future tragedies, adding that the fallen heroes’ values of integrity, humility, and loyalty would remain a guiding light for Ghana.

Muhammed’s life was a blessing to us – Wife of late Murtala Muhammed shares heartfelt tribute at state funeral http://34.58.148.58/muhammeds-life-was-a-blessing-to-us-wife-of-late-murtala-muhammed-shares-heartfelt-tribute-at-state-funeral/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 10:56:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2567437 The wife of the late Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, has delivered a moving tribute to her husband, honouring his life, faith, and dedication to service during the state funeral held on Friday, August 15.

Dr. Muhammed was among eight patriots who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

In her emotional address, Hadiatu described her husband as “a gift to all who knew him” — a man defined by kindness, patience, and unwavering love.

“For almost a decade, I had the privilege of walking through life by his side. Together, we raised our beautiful children, and in every step of that journey, he showed me what it means to be kind, patient, and full of love,” she recalled.

She spoke of his deep faith, integrity, and dependability, sharing a personal moment that reflected his devotion to national duty.

During an emergency, he once told her, “My dear, the president has called me” — a reminder that she shared him not only with their family but also with the nation.

Beyond his public role, Hadiatu remembered him as a loving father — one who found joy in simple moments, like his daughters playfully combing his bald head and laughing with him.

“In those moments, he was not the Minister of State, but simply a dad,” she noted warmly.

She praised his humour, generosity, and selflessness, saying he always put others before himself and worked tirelessly, not for recognition, but from a genuine desire to serve.

“Muhammed’s life was a blessing to us, and his memory will forever be a treasure. May Allah grant you Jannatul Firdaus and eternal peace. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry your light with us always,” she concluded.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. God is Great, God is Great, God is Great. Praise be to Allah, the cherisher and the sustainer of the worlds. ‘To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return.

“For almost a decade, I had the privilege of walking through life by his side. Together, we raised our beautiful children, and in every step of that journey, he showed me and everyone around him what it means to be kind, patient, and full of love.”

“Mohamed was more than a husband and father; he was a man of deep faith. God-fearing and humble, he lived his life with integrity, always choosing the right path, even when it was not the easy one.

“He was trustworthy and dependable, the kind of person you could call at any hour, knowing he would answer.”

“I remember once, an incident on the road. Of course, he was the first person I called. He picked up right away, and I told him my situation, expecting him to come rushing to my rescue.

“He listened patiently, sympathised, and then said, ‘Ah… my dear, the president has called me.’ In that moment, I realised I wasn’t just sharing my husband with friends, family, or the community. I was sharing him with the President of Ghana as well!!”

“His daughters would comb his hair or perhaps I should say his head… because he had no hair to comb. He loved to play horse with the children; these were the moments I smiled because then he was not wearing the hat of a Minister of State but that of a dad.”

His humour, generosity, and commitment to others were at the heart of her farewell.

“He had a wonderful sense of humour that could light up a room, and a heart that was always ready to help. More often than not, he put others before himself.

“Hard-working and determined, he gave his best in everything he did, not for recognition, but because it was in his nature to serve and to care.”

She closed her tribute with words of love and prayer.

“Mohammed’s life was a blessing to us, and his memory will forever be a treasure. He has left us far too soon, but his love, his laughter, and his example will live on in our children, in our hearts, and in the countless lives he touched.

“Rest well, my husband. May Allah grant you Jannatul Firdaus and surround you with eternal peace. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry your light with us always. Inshah Allah. Daddy, we love and miss you so much. Forever in our hearts.”

Mahama has resolved to ruthlessly deal with ‘galamsey’ – Ablakwa http://34.58.148.58/mahama-has-resolved-to-ruthlessly-deal-with-galamsey-ablakwa/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 08:03:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2567287 President John Dramani Mahama has committed to a “ruthless and relentless campaign” to end illegal mining, known as ‘galamsey’, to end the menace that has resulted in significant losses.

The pledge follows the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6 that killed eight people, including two cabinet ministers who were at the forefront of the anti-galamsey fight.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed the President’s new resolve to JoyNews journalist Blessed Sogah today (August 14), after signing a book of condolences for the victims.

The minister’s remarks signal a major shift in the government’s approach, which many view as a decisive response to a crisis that has spiralled into a national tragedy.

“I can confirm to you that you are going to see a fight that has never been witnessed in this country,” Ablakwa stated. “President Mahama is going to lead a very ruthless and relentless campaign against Galamsey. He has not minced words at all.”

Mr Ablakwa’s comments shed light on an urgent mini-cabinet meeting held earlier in the day, where the President reportedly made his intentions clear.

“We had a brief cabinet meeting earlier today, and the president was very clear. There was no ambiguity that he would be leading a war that we have never seen to deal with this existential threat once and for all,” the minister added.

The late Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, along with six other public servants, died while on a mission to launch a community mining scheme, a key initiative to bring some illegal miners into a regulated framework.

Their deaths have galvanised the government to take a more aggressive stance.

The new campaign comes amid alarming data on the severe environmental and economic toll of illegal mining.

According to recent reports, over 19,000 hectares of cocoa farmland, a pillar of Ghana’s economy, have been destroyed by galamsey.

The use of toxic chemicals like mercury and cyanide has polluted more than 60% of Ghana’s major water bodies, including the Pra and Ankobra rivers, raising fears that the nation may have to import water by 2030.

Past efforts by successive governments, including Operation Vanguard and Operation Halt, have often been met with limited success.

This new “ruthless” approach is expected to be a more comprehensive and sustained effort, targeting not just the miners but the powerful sponsors behind them.

Speaking to JoyNews at the state funeral of the eight people, including Dr. Boamah, who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash, Mr. Gunu recounted his exceptional approach to the 2024 general elections.

“He is one person who brought his experience and expertise as a medical doctor practitioner to bear on our electoral architecture, and he was able to demystify the rumors that the NDC was not able to collate its election in 2020.

“So when it came to the 2024 election, it was like a medical officer took the whole election system to a laboratory to diagnose and found a solution and made recommendations on what to do, especially with regard to ballot accounting and other things that will help us win the election and in fact he did very well,” Mr. Gunu eulogised.

The fallen eight

The minister noted that Dr. Omane Boamah’s ability to merge medical precision with political strategy reflected his rare blend of professional expertise and patriotic commitment.

He emphasised that his role should not be forgotten. He also mourned the other six, describing their loss as the loss of a national asset.

He said he was the kind of person with whom it was impossible to quarrel, even in moments of disagreement.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, in the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed Dr. Boamah’s life alongside seven others, the former Suame MP described his late friend as “a man of great versatility.”

The former Parliamentary Minister said the former Defence Minister’s personality left a mark on everyone who encountered him.

“Dr. Omane Boamah, I knew personally. He has a very versatile personality, is a medical officer, a former minister responsible for government communications, and was in charge of defence for the country. That indicates to anybody assessing him that he is a man of great versatility,” he said.

Recalling their rapport, the former Majority Leader said their interactions were always warm and light-hearted.

“We’ve known each other for quite some time now, ever since he came into the political limelight, and we have been having conversations on occasion. Anytime that we bump into each other, it’s always a joke that we share.”

He said Dr. Boamah had a rare gift for defusing tension, even in heated debates.

“He’s one person that even when you disagree with, you can’t pick up a quarrel with him, because he will end up making a joke of it, even if it is a big issue, and lighten the conversation. That was Dr. Omane Boamah for me.”

He commended Ghanaians for uniting in grief and urged the government to intensify efforts to create alternative jobs for the youth, highlighting the alarming levels of unemployment.

Advertising Association of Ghana pays tribute to helicopter crash victims http://34.58.148.58/advertising-association-of-ghana-pays-tribute-to-helicopter-crash-victims/ Thu, 14 Aug 2025 21:34:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2567239 As the nation continues to mourn the tragic loss of eight persons who died in a recent helicopter crash, the Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) has joined the many institutions and organizations paying tribute at the designated flower-laying gardens.

Following the official conclusion of the three-day national mourning period, members of the AAG, led by their President, Andrew Ackah, laid flowers in honour and offered prayers for their peaceful rest.

Speaking during the solemn ceremony, Mr. Ackah extended heartfelt condolences to the President of the Republic, the bereaved families, and the entire nation, noting that the loss was not only personal to the families but deeply felt across government and society.

“This is a big loss—not only to their families—but to the presidency, the government, and to the citizenry of the country,” Mr. Ackah said.

“It is not just a tragedy; personally and physically it breaks the heart, mind, and will of the people. But we need to be strong, and that is why we are here—to commiserate with the government and the entire nation.”

He emphasized that the AAG was present in solidarity and committed to supporting the national healing process in any way possible.

As the country prepares to lay the fallen officers to rest, he called on all Ghanaians to reflect on their sacrifice and the values they upheld.

“This is not about politics; it is about service to the nation and the thumbprints and footprints these men left in the sands of time. We should pick up where they left off and use their legacy for the greater good of Ghanaians.”

Mr. Ackah also drew a connection between the association’s work and broader national issues, particularly the ongoing fight against illegal mining, or “galamsey”, which has devastating effects on the environment and public health.

“We have strong connections with the media and have been helping amplify the dangers of illegal mining. It’s not just about the environment—it affects our physical health and wellbeing. We’re committed to continuing this fight.”

He further highlighted internal challenges facing the advertising industry, likening the unregulated installation of billboards to a form of “galamsey” within their own sector.

“We’re also fighting the illegal mounting of billboards by unscrupulous actors, which poses serious risks to pedestrians and motorists alike. It’s a fight for safety, order, and integrity in our profession—just as it is in every part of national life.”

“I stood on a measuring scale on Wednesday and realised that just within a week, I had lost five kg. That is how badly the news of the victims has affected me,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo revealed that his friendship with the late Minister for Food and Agriculture began about 25 years ago when they both studied at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

“We go way back. Whenever he visited my home, we would sit on the floor and watch TV together. He was very hardworking, and I can say he was one of President Mahama’s trusted envoys,” he said.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo recounted that during his time as Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Muniru’s dedication and vision were evident to all.

“If President Mahama needed someone to get something done in the Northern Region, it was Muniru. He was a very trusted lieutenant who always delivered results,” he noted.

According to him, much of the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator’s work was carried out quietly, away from public attention.

“He took care of President Mahama’s farms and was recently appointed to a new role. Sadly, on his very first official trip, he met his untimely death,” he recounted.

He also reminded everyone that each individual has a role to play in the development of the country, even at the risk of their lives. Nana Brantuo advocated for unity as the nation honors their memory and pledges to uphold the values they championed.

May their souls find eternal peace, and may their families find comfort in the collective grief and support of the people of Buem and all of Ghana.

Deputy Majority Chief Whip clarifies comments on helicopter crash [Listen] http://34.58.148.58/deputy-majority-chief-whip-clarifies-comments-on-helicopter-crash-listen/ Thu, 14 Aug 2025 09:51:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2566939 The Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Comfort Doyoe-Cudjoe, has refuted allegations that she claimed foul play was behind the August 6 helicopter tragedy that claimed eight lives.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the Ada Member of Parliament (MP) stressed, “I didn’t see anybody, so how could I have said there was someone behind it? I have no evidence.”

Her earlier remarks had drawn controversy after she suggested that available evidence pointed to the Z-9 helicopter exploding mid-air rather than crashing into a tree, as initially reported.

She argued that her view was informed by the absence of the helicopter at the crash site, with only scattered parts and no intact remains of the victims.

The comments prompted sharp criticism, including a call by New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Koduah for her arrest and interrogation, describing her statements as reckless.

However, Mrs. Doyoe-Cudjoe maintained that her words had been misrepresented.

She insisted she had not accused anyone of being behind the incident and urged the public to remain calm while awaiting the outcome of investigations.

“Did Justin Koduah hear me say there are people behind it? He is the one making that claim. I spoke as a layperson because, from the videos I have seen, there was no visible helicopter, and the bodies were scattered. I spoke without any malicious intent.

“We are all grieving this tragedy, but we must allow the investigation to run its course to reveal the facts,” she added.
