The King and Overlord of Gonja, Bii-Kunute Jewu Suale I, has paid tribute to the Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for his generous support for Gonjaland.

During a ceremony to honour Dr Bawumia, the Overlord expressed heartfelt appreciation for the NPP flagbearer’s contributions to the renovation of the Jakpa Palace.

“This citation is awarded to you, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in recognition of your exceptional contributions to Jakpa Palace,” the citation stated.

“Your remarkable support and commitment have greatly advanced the development and enhancement of the Palace, showcasing your dedication to the welfare of the community.

“On behalf of the Jakpa Palace and the Gonja Kingdom, we extend our sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for your extraordinary support and service,” it concluded.

Recently, the Oguaa Traditional Council also recognized Dr. Bawumia at the Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast for his generous contributions toward the renovation of the Oguaahene’s Palace.

This was after the Paramount chief of the Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Building-Kunuto Soale Jewu on Sunday, July 22, 2024 banned MP from entering all palaces within the kingdom for interfering in traditional matters in the area.

However, in a statement on Monday July 22, Abu Jinapor refuted the claims, stating that the allegations against him are “totally false”.

“As I have stated time and again, I do not have any interest in the Damongo chieftaincy affairs whatsoever,” he stated.

He emphasized his respect for the chieftaincy institution and its leaders.

“As a bona fide Gonja Prince, I continue to have high regard for the revered chieftaincy institution, the Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bi-kunuto Jewu Soale, and all other chiefs for that matter.

“My role and overarching interest, both as Member of Parliament and Minister of the Republic, is to contribute my modest quota to the development of Ghana, and my beloved constituency of Damongo. I entreat all and sundry to disregard these allegations as same are untrue.

The Lands Minister further urged the public to dismiss these unfounded claims, reaffirming his commitment to his constituents and the people of Ghana.
