The casualty occurred when the sprinter Benz bus they were traveling in burst a Tyre at an intersection on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway in the Central Region.

Speaking to Adom News, an eyewitness who doubles as an articulator driver, David Osanyomo, revealed that he was repairing his faulty car when he saw the Sprinter Benz bus making a wrongful overtaking.

Unbeknownst of what was ahead, the driver on top speed burst two of his back tyres and attempted to veer off the road to safety.

But, the car ended into the sideway and somersaulted into a ditch.

One passenger died on the spot and 22 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The injured were transported to Mankesim Government Hospital and Apam St Luke’s Catholic Hospital respectively for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Apam District Fire Service Command have visited the scene.

About 23 others are said to have sustained injuries in the accident involving three vehicles on Monday afternoon.

Three of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

An eyewitness, Nana Sekyi, told Adom News a Mitsubishi outlander with registration number GB 4415 -22 from Accra to Cape Coast made a wrongful overtaking and crashed into the side of the Toyota Fish with registration number GW 8017 -19.

The driver of the Mitsubishi also crashed into a Hyundai i10 which was behind the Toyota fish.

The Apam Operation Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Abdallah Ibrahim, revealed that the victims are all receiving treatment at Apam St Luke’s Catholic Hospital.

Reports by Adom News’ Kofi Adjei indicates that they were travelling from Agona Swedru to Takoradi when the accident occured.

This was after the driver of the Toyota Hiace they were travelling in made a wrongful overtaking.

The Apam District Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II, Ankomah Nuamah, who confirmed the incident, said the driver run into a ditch in an attempt to dodge the oncoming vehicle.

ACFO Nuamah said the car somersaulted several times before landing in the ditch which resulted in the death of a female passenger.

He said personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service Apam Station rushed to the scene to rescue some passengers who were stuck in the vehicle.

They are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Apam St Lucks Catholic Hospital and Mankessim Hospital respectively.
