Emotional Mother’s Day surprise as Gifty Anti pays medical bills for 21 mothers at Tema General Hospital http://34.58.148.58/emotional-mothers-day-surprise-as-gifty-anti-pays-medical-bills-for-21-mothers-at-tema-general-hospital/ Mon, 12 May 2025 10:04:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534142 It was an emotional Mother’s Day at the Tema General Hospital when broadcaster and women’s advocate, Gifty Anti, settled the medical bills of 21 new mothers, allowing them to be discharged after weeks of being stranded.

In total, over GH₵51,000 was paid to cover outstanding hospital fees.

The gesture, part of the Gifty Anti Foundation’s Mother’s Day outreach, came as a lifeline for many of the women, some of whom had been unable to leave the hospital for more than two weeks due to financial constraints.

Among the beneficiaries was the family of a woman who, after 17 years of childlessness, tragically passed away from complications following a Caesarean section. Her medical bills were fully covered by the foundation, offering her grieving family some relief.

Beyond clearing the hospital debts, the initiative reached over 100 women across the Gynaecology, Labour, Post-CS, and Post-Delivery wards.

In all, 85 new mothers received gift packages to celebrate the arrival of their babies, while 20 others were presented with new clothes to support their postpartum recovery.

Speaking during the donation, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, known for her tireless advocacy for women’s rights and well-being, described the outreach as deeply personal and called for more support for vulnerable women, especially from men.

The foundation’s initiative was made possible with support from the Micheam Foundation, Dankyi Mireku RTW, Dede Classics, and other individual donors whose contributions amplified the impact.

Five additional women are expected to be discharged soon, following extra cash donations from well-wishers.

Gifty Anti attributes her success to tough mentorship http://34.58.148.58/gifty-anti-attributes-her-success-to-tough-mentorship/ Fri, 21 Jun 2024 15:36:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2411661 Ace broadcast journalist, Oheneyere Dr Gifty Anti, revealed that her internship at the Ghanaian Times was a pivotal period in her career, thanks to the mentorship of renowned media consultant and journalist, Lys Hayfron Asare.

Speaking with Irene Adubea Aning on Joy Learning TV’s entrepreneurship programme, “The Career Trail,” Dr Anti shared how this challenging experience helped shape her into the journalist she is today.

“At Ghanaian Times, I met a woman who has now become my professional godmother, Mrs Lys Hayfron Asare, who took me under her wings. Lord, was she tough on me! I thought this woman hated me with a passion. She was tough! Nothing I did pleased her. I’d go on assignment, she’d read it and just put it aside and say, ‘Go and write again, go and write a proper story,’” Dr Anti recalled.

Her breakthrough in journalism occurred when she was sent out to find a story. “I met a little girl at Circle who was selling water, not sachet water, but the one they tie in a rubber. I started talking to her because I deeply resonated with her situation.

“From our conversations, I discovered that she had been brought to Accra by her aunt who promised to enroll her in school but failed to do so. I wrote the story and presented it to Mrs. Lys Hayfron Asare, who made some corrections and added a few things to it, and guess what? This story made the front page,” she proudly shared.

Dr Anti also reminisced about her late father, who was her biggest supporter. She recalled how thrilled he was with her accomplishments, which fueled her relentless pursuit of journalism.

“People can see potential in you,” she said, “but sometimes, your circumstances can blind you. When I couldn’t gain admission to KNUST, I got sick from brokenness; because I’d come home, and all my friends had gone to school, and I was the only one left behind.

” One morning, my dad came to visit, and I said to him that when I grew up, I would marry a doctor, so I will become prominent. He just looked at me, teary-eyed, and said, ‘Naana, you will be great. You wouldn’t have to marry a rich man to be great, but you, you will be great,” she concluded.

Although she was unable to foresee that great future at the time, she praised her late father for being able to see beyond her present circumstances.

The broadcaster turned 53 on Monday, January 23, 2023, and to commemorate it, she extended a benevolent gesture to the Paediatric Department.

The donation was done through the Gifty Anti Foundation which was launched last year with support from Twellium Ghana Limited.

The items included 200 packs of Verna mineral water, 30 packs of Bigoo Orange and Cola and 13 boxes of Twist cupcakes and Pure delight vanilla sliced cakes.

Presenting the items, Gifty Anti disclosed she chose the facility since she connects and has a lot of history with it.

The exercise was therefore to give back to society as someone who said she believes the ability to celebrate others affirms your relevance in society.

“Twellium Ghana, producers of Verna water approached me and asked what I want for my birthday so I said it will be nice to give back to society. They asked where I wanted to go and I chose Tema General Hospital.

“Aside from the fact that I grew up in Tema, both my parents died here and my sister who is like my mum now has had two successive surgeries here. She also delivered her daughter who was also treated and cured of pneumonia here. So I have a lot of history with the facility,” she said.

She continued that “sharing love and changing lives is what Verna stands for and that is while we are here today to put smiles on the faces of the children, doctors and nurses as well as all workers.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the facility, the Head of Administration, Apostle Dr Samuel Obeng Mensah, expressed profound gratitude to Gifty Anti for the gesture not just to the hospital but for the excellent and result-oriented work she has done over the years.

“There are people like you in the media who are doing so much for women and children. This means a lot to us and we are grateful. What Gifty Anti did for the people of Adumasa… http://34.58.148.58/what-gifty-anti-did-for-the-people-of-adumasa/ Fri, 26 Mar 2021 17:15:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1939781 People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are indeed the ones who do.

This is exactly what motivated Ghanaian media personality, Gifty Anti, to bless the people of Akwamu Adumasa in the Eastern Region with a two-classroom library.

Gifty Anti handing over the library to the people of Adumasa

This was during her official introduction as the wife of their chief, Nana Ansah Kwao IV to the people on March 26, 2016, though they tied the knot on October 15, 2015.

With five years down and forever to go, it is on record the library has become the only monument attached to a school in that district.

As a result of the library, three children from the area participated in the National Spelling Bee competition in January 2017.

Through the unflinching support of friends and loved ones, the library, under the auspices of the Awo Dansoa Reading Project, increased the community’s literacy level from 45% to 85% within a year.

Throughout the worthy journey, the Adumasa Ohene Yere Gifty Anti does not rule out the fact that God has been pivotal in all the successes so far.

“Thank You Lord, for it’s been a tough journey but by your Grace, I am still standing and doing my best to support Nana Ansah Kwao IV in serving his people,” she acknowledged as she reflects on the milestone.

Meanwhile, plans are underway towards the renovation of two classrooms to expand the library facility with doors opens for donations.

This has been necessitated by the overwhelming demand on the existing facility being used by primary and JHS pupils.

A Library time has also been added to the daily class routine of the Adumasa Presby Primary and JHS.

“I am grateful to Lister Hospital and all other persons who have donated towards the course so far. Cash donations can still be sent to MOMO number 0543618182,” she said.

SORRY, 2021, HE WILL NOT CHANGE!!

By Oheneyere Gifty Anti

I am sure you have seen some of the pictures of the charity work I did during Christmas!!! But do you know, that on the morning of 26th December 2020, the car I had been using for almost a year now, was involved in a very serious accident?

That was the day I had the kenkey party for the children of Adumasa and surrounding areas. I sent the ‘driver’ to go to the next village, which is about 3 minutes drive from Adumasa, to go buy me polythene bags for the packages for the children.

5 minutes after, I had a call that the car had somersaulted (about 3 or 4 times) and landed in the bush.

Thankfully, none of the occupants were seriously hurt. It shook me, really shook me and I asked ‘why Lord’.? The car isn’t even mine.

A friend gave it to me to use since I didn’t have a car and I had planned to hand it over to her immediately I returned from Adumasa… and then this accident happens. ???‍♀️?Aside from the cost of repairing it, how was I going to tell my friend? But you know what?

I still went ahead and had the kenkey party for the kids, with all Smiles and made sure they were happy!! Don’t be shocked. I am Rev Eastwood Anaba’s daughter. He has groomed us to ‘heal others even when we are wounded’ ?But, as human as I am, after serving the children, I went into the room and wept.

I wept so hard and my husband didn’t even know what to do or say to me. Why do I have to ‘suffer’ when I was putting smiles on the faces of others?

Why? But the next day, 27th December 2020, after checking up to see the occupants of the car were still ok, I shared clothes and shoes for more children.

And as I write right now, I am about to share some more for children in my area. Yeah!! I am telling you this ‘uncomfortable’ story because I want you to understand, that it hasn’t been easy for any of us.

And that even the ‘righteous’ (which I am nowhere close to, by the way) also go through afflictions.

When I say I have super crazy Faith in God, it doesn’t mean I have had or have things easy going for me.

No! This year has been tough and affected me in ways I can not even tell you. HmmmmHowever, at every challenging step, I know, it could have been worse! I always know and believe that God has delivered me from something or is about to make a way for me, someway or somehow. You see, He has shown up for me many times, but it never stops me from panicking anytime I go through challenging times. ?I had plans for this year, for this month, but most of them didn’t materialize. I couldn’t achieve it.

Does it mean God has failed me? That I am a failure! ? Heck No!!! Once I have life, I know I have another opportunity for my dreams to actualize!! To come to pass!!

My dear friend, irrespective of what this year has dished out to you, God is Faithful. You are alive!. He is God and His words are Yea and Amen. He is the God of the 11th Hour. You can receive your miracle even before the strike of Midnight tonight!! Don’t give up on God.

In 2021, He will be the same God who will allow you to go through the Valley of the Shadow of death.

But He will expect you to fear no evil because He will be with you!! I wish I can tell you that 2021 will be your best year ever, but I can’t because I am not God.

However, I can tell you this!IN 2021, GOD WILL MANIFEST HIMSELF GREATLY IN YOUR LIFE!!! IT IS MY PRAYER THAT IN 2021, GOD WILL GIVE YOU A TESTIMONY, ONE LIFE-CHANGING TESTIMONY THAT WILL SHOCK YOU!!!

In 2021, don’t let go of your faith in God. Work harder, stay more focused, be more creative and determined!! Be humble, compassionate, forgiving and loving. In 2021, do your very best and leave the rest to God!!! In 2021, stay positive, hopeful and dare to take calculated risks!!

Happy New Year and May 2021 bring us all more joys and laughter. Sincerely Yours, The Woman with Super Crazy Faith in God. P.S: And oh guess what? When I told my friend about the accident, do you know what she said? ‘Sis I Hope no one was seriously hurt. And don’t worry, accidents do happen!!’ ?That’s a miracle right there!!!

Why I was advised not to be in the media beyond age 40 – Gifty Anti http://34.58.148.58/why-i-was-advised-not-to-be-in-the-media-beyond-age-40-gifty-anti/ Thu, 10 Sep 2020 18:41:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1852424 Gifty Anti has revealed that she was advised at a young age to retire from her work in the media when she turns 40.

According to the celebrated broadcast journalist, she may have not understood the advice then, but she picked up on the reasons later in life.

“Of course I left (GBC) when I was 42 but I got to understand that there are a lot of people who were having challenges with relationships and I had my fair share of it,” she said on Joy FM’s Strong and Sassy, Wednesday.

She told the host, Animwaa Anim Addo, that these challenges were mostly as a result of the perception people had about women in the media.

“People have all these thoughts about you, the rumour and the things that they will talk about as if they were there,” she explained.

MORE:

She stated that although the situation seemed to have been better, many young women who are journalists are still going through what their predecessors went through.

Also speaking on the issue, Odelia Ntiamoah, head of the Joy Business team at the Multimedia Group, added that women at 40 and over are sometimes compared (in appearances) to younger people coming into the media.

“If you are not in a managerial position, it quickly gets complicated and you quickly ask yourself that what is the next for me?” she observed.

She added that at such times many women question how far they can go in their new circumstances, eventually leading to a retirement or a move to new avenues or opportunities.

“So sitting back and looking at where you currently are, you are asking yourself for how long will I be here for this amount of pay and that kind of treatment?” she said.

According to her, she considered adoption at a point in time, after she had been told that she may not be able to have a child; which made her all the more excited when another doctor informed her that it was indeed possible.

She said she had always wanted to be a mother, and was already playing a motherly role in the lives of many people long before she herself would give birth.

LIFE IN COMPULSORY QUARANTINE HRH: mummy is coming Meanwhile mummy and all the others on the last BA flight from London last night, were taken straight into compulsory quarantine!!! Well, it was quite a sight last night. No one. Absolutely no one was allowed to go home or see relatives who had come to meet them. The minister for National Security and his deputy, BNI director and other security operatives, the police, military and health professionals were all at the airport to ensure that no one escapes. You arrive, they screen you, you go and pick up your luggage and wait for your turn to be bused to the hotel. This morning, I opened my door and the military guy on the floor said, ‘Madam please go back inside”. Well I was just looking!!! ?? Anyway, so, they leave the food at your door, knock and leave. No human contact. The only human contacts are the fully PPE clothed health officials who come to take our samples for testing. Quite an uncomfortable process, though very necessary. Ghana is taking this seriously and we the citizens must take it seriously too. It’s not fun to be under compulsory quarantine but it is very necessary!!! Take care of yourself and let’s be kind to each other. Life goes on. Don’t put your life on hold. Live it but remember these are dangerous times, so be careful. Follow all the protocols. Wash your hands, sanitize etc. Stay safe and help save other people’s lives. It’s a tough time for our front line health professionals. Let’s make it a bit easy for them by doing the right thing. And oh remember, anyone and I mean anyone can get the virus. So please don’t stigmatize those who have it. And don’t be afraid to report if you show symptoms of corona virus. Early detection will help save your life and that of your loved ones. I am Oheneyere Gifty Anti, and I am in compulsory quarantine!!! Ghana means business. Let’s Support the fight. Let’s Pray for Ghana. Remember, I am a woman with super crazy Faith in God. God has given us wisdom. Let’s apply it.

“So that people will know that they are not alone. The squares in front of the book show my brokenness but behind that is a beautiful picture. She has, however, kicked against plastic surgery for bosom and bottom aesthetics.

According to her, women “have a right to do whatever they want to do but I will feel sad if a woman will go for plastic surgery because she feels that she does not belong and that she does not fit the status quo that society has designed for women”.

“I will never encourage any of my friends or my girls or my daughters as I call them, to go for plastic surgery just for fun or for fashion or whatever but if it is for medical reasons of course, why not!”, she told Prince Benjamin on the maiden edition of the Inspire Series, a segment on Class91.3FM’s Class Drive which airs every first and third Thursday of the month from 6.15pm to 7pm.

In her advice to the public, she encouraged the youth not to despise humble beginnings but embrace every little form of enterprise that will help them to develop their skills and sharpen their entrepreneurial abilities.

Using herself as an example, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, who is married to Nana Ansah Kwao IV, Chief of Edumasa in the Eastern Region, said she sold different items on the streets as a young girl.

“I used to sell Guardian soap, the red and then ‘Don’t Touch Me’ during the tough times. There was a lady who used to live behind our house who made the ‘Don’t Touch Me’ soap, then we go for it and sell”.

According to the host of Standpoint, her father used to prevent them sometimes, but she defied his orders and still went to hawk in order to raise some money.

She said things became “tough” after her father, a Police Superintendent during the Gold Coast era, went on retirement but “there was never a lack of love in the home”.

She said her father single-handedly raised her together with her siblings and showed them a lot of care and communicated effectively with them.

“From form one to form three, I didn’t own a watch but I understood why I didn’t own a watch because my father didn’t have enough money to give me the luxury of giving me a watch. He will pay my school fees but the provisions [was not in abundance] so, I never missed the dining hall,” she recollected.

At a point she indicated that she even had to turn to carpentry. She encouraged the public to never be a burden on another person, adding: “You can achieve something for yourself. Nothing is too low, work is work”.

She is advocating equal support systems for both men and women to thrive in society adding her father is the first feminist she encountered as he ensured that all his eight children received education and equal opportunities regardless of gender.

The award-winning TV personality landed her first job as a Floor Manager at GTV. She is currently a TV presenter, coach, gender advocate and feminist. She has one child with her husband, also a broadcaster.

“A day before I was discharged from the hospital after giving birth, I was told to monitor my baby…in the evening I looked in the eyes and realized it was yellow; meaning she has jaundice. Even though I knew it can be treated, I couldn’t hold back my tears…” she told Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of Peacefm’s Kokrokoo Morning Show.
She made this disclosure at the launch of a shortcode (3322) in support of Kokrokroo Charities’ “Project 100” on Monday morning.
According to her, “it is not easy for any mother to hear that her baby is going to be put in an incubator; how much more when you know your pre-term baby might die because of a lack of an incubator”.
She therefore urged all to “come on board in support of ‘Project 100’”.
Project 100
This is a campaign initiated by Kokrokoo Charities Foundation to purchase a total of 100 incubators for health facilities across the country.
The vision of this project is to reduce the mortality rate of children born prematurely or before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
So far, ten incubators have been installed in some regional hospitals across the country.
On Monday, 18th December, 2017, the foundation launched a shortcode to make donation more flexible for Ghanaians.
To contribute to project 100, simply dial 3322 on any MTN network and you will be charged GHC5.

Kneeling before your husband does not make you less of a feminist – Gifty Anti http://34.58.148.58/kneeling-husband-not-make-less-feminist-gifty-anti/ Fri, 29 Sep 2017 15:20:44 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=536061 Television hostess, Gifty Anti has denied that she knelt before her husband in a now-viral photograph that has resulted in many questioning her stance as a feminist.

The photo which shows Gifty Anti in an embrace with husband Nana Ansah Kwao was met with a backlash on social media with many bloggers accusing her of abandoning her feminist ideals.

In a post on Instagram, Gifty Anti said such reports were motivated by persons who were scared by the growing feminist movement in the country.

She explained that contrary to the reports, the picture was captured on her birthday when she out of excitement hugged while seated on a stool.

She posted: “Well it seems the word FEMINISM and the coming up of young ladies joining the movement is scaring some people.

“It was my birthday, 23rd January, 2017, and my husband gave me a stool. I was so excited and honored. He put me on the stool and I hugged him.

“But well according to some bloggers, I was kneeling before my husband and so some feminists are ‘heartbroken’. Lord have mercy”.

Mrs Anti also stated that, there was nothing wrong with a wife kneeling before her husband.

“And by the way what if I was kneeling before my husband?(who is a chief too). Does it make me less of a feminist? Which feminist code does loving your husband break? My Name is Oheneyere Gifty Anti and yes I am a FEMINIST, married with many children,” she added.
