The Minister for Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, has rewarded Lance Corporal Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu for his patriotic act of rejecting a bribe to permit illegal mining at the Bibiani Gold Mines.

At an all-ranks durbar held at Burma Camp on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Dr. Boamah presented a personal cash donation of GH₵10,000.00 to L/Cpl Teye-Tsu in recognition of his integrity and to encourage professionalism within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Dr. Boamah praised the young soldier, the troops, and the defence civilian staff of Garrisons 1 & 5 for their courage and dedication, while also urging the leadership of the Armed Forces to deal decisively with personnel who stray from their professional code.

Commenting on recent developments in Bawku, where two soldiers were shot, the Minister condemned acts of indiscipline and warned against soldiers clandestinely offering guard services to unauthorised persons. He urged the military High Command to clamp down on the practice.

He also disclosed government’s plans to enhance operational capacity and improve troop welfare, including the construction of 10,000 new housing units and the provision of logistics and modern equipment.

L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, who currently serves with the Department of Public Relations of the GAF, was promoted from the rank of Private to Lance Corporal by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on July 11, 2025.

As part of his reward package, he was presented with a citation and nominated for international service with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Earlier, Ojeyz Securities Limited—the private firm responsible for security at the Bibiani Gold Mines—also honoured him for the same act of integrity. Late last year, while on official guard duty at the mines, Teye-Tsu encountered a group of illegal miners who attempted to bribe him to gain access to restricted mining pits. He rejected the offer and promptly handed the culprits over to the authorities.

The 30-year-old soldier hails from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region and is a former student of Manya Krobo Senior High School and King David College. He is also a member of Kloma Gbi, a Krobo-based youth advocacy group.

Private Teye-Tsu, 30, who serves with the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp in Accra, was on official guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mine late last year when he encountered a group of artisanal miners.

The group reportedly attempted to lure him with a significant financial inducement in exchange for access to restricted galamsey pits.

Announcing the reward, Lieutenant General Agyapong urged personnel to always remember their oath to the state and act professionally.

The CDS emphasised that just as misconduct deserves punishment, exemplary conduct—like that demonstrated by L/Cpl Teye-Tsu deserves recognition and commendation.

Private security firm honours soldier for rejecting ‘galamsey bribe’ http://34.58.148.58/private-security-firm-honours-soldier-for-rejecting-galamsey-bribe/ Mon, 30 Jun 2025 12:00:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2549657 Ojeyz Security Management Limited, a Ghanaian-owned private security company, has honoured a young soldier, Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, for his exemplary patriotism and integrity.

This was after he rejected a substantial bribe from illegal miners at his duty post at the Bibiani Gold Mine in the Western Region.

Motivated by his commitment to national duty and environmental protection, Pte. Teye-Tsu not only turned down the offer but proceeded to apprehend the illegal miners and handed them over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

In recognition of his outstanding conduct, the management of Ojeyz Security Management Limited, which provides security services at the Bibiani site, presented him with an Outstanding Staff Recognition Award, describing him as a shining example of professionalism and ethical service.

The citation, signed by the Chief Executive and Founder of Ojeyz Security, Capt. Haruna Adamu (Rtd.), read in part:

“In appreciation of your commendable performance and unwavering dedication to providing top-notch service, Ojeyz Security Management truly appreciates your professionalism and excellent service delivery.”

Pte. Teye-Tsu, who enlisted in the Ghana Armed Forces in 2023, hails from Odumase-Krobo and is an alumnus of Manya Krobo Senior High School and King David College.

Reacting to the honour, he expressed appreciation to the company for recognising what he described as a modest contribution.

“I feel greatly honoured and fired up,” he said.

Adding to the accolades, Ing. Philip Tetteh Padi, Commissioner of Kloma Gbi, a Krobo-based youth-driven advocacy network, described the soldier’s actions as a “pure sacrifice.”

“In our part of the world, where professionalism and integrity are easily sacrificed for financial rewards and instant gratification, only a few men are still able to stand by their convictions, standards, and principles. He really demonstrated the Kloma Gbi value of integrity,” Ing. Padi noted.

Ojeyz Security Management Limited is a leading private security firm offering services to government institutions, diplomatic missions, mining companies, and industrial establishments across Ghana.
