A senior lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Moses Foh Amoaning, has descended heavily on the United Nation’s Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights for describing Ghana’s speaker of Parliament as “deluded” for stating his position on homosexuality in the country.
The subject of gayism and appreciation for the rights of the LGBT community in Ghana has been ongoing for a while now and many, including Speaker of Parliament, Mike Oquaye have condemned and rejected the idea of neutralizing Ghana’s laws against the practice.
Most recent to have reignited public discourse on the subject is United Nation’s Special Rapporteur.

Speaking in an interview after undertaking a Human Rights fact-finding visit to Ghana to assess government efforts to eradicating poverty, Philip Alston said Prof. Oquaye’s comment is unacceptable because there is a significant gay population in Ghana.
“I believe that if he thinks there are not a very significant proportion of gay people in Ghana, he is deluding himself. You cannot wish away a physical fact. The percentage of gay people in any population is significant,” he said.
UK Prime Minister, Theresa May has also suggested that the UK’s role in introducing anti-gay laws in former colonies such as Ghana is responsible for their strong stance against the practice today; reiterating the UK’s readiness to assist such countries repeal anti-gay laws and accept the rights of such persons.

But reacting to the issue, Moses Foh Amoaning said homosexuality can never be endorsed in Ghana.
“Nana Addo is too intelligent and will not condone such stupidity. You sit there to call the speaker of your parliament deluded. The UN Special Rapporteur is so bigoted. Ghana will never endorse such uncivilized act which the Bible frowns upon and so they should look elsewhere” he stated.

He, therefore, called on President Akufo-Addo to immediately state his stance on the matter as soon as possible.

Hot Audio: Homosexuals need deliverance, psychiatric help – Lawyer http://34.58.148.58/homosexuals-need-deliverance-psychiatric-help-lawyer/ Mon, 27 Nov 2017 17:22:41 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=710431 Private Legal practitioner, Lawyer Moses Foh Amoaning has stated that some people who are going around professing to be gays to seek psychological and spiritual help.
The Lawyer speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Monday said these people need psychological and spiritual help as they have certain hormonal issues which can only be resolved through that.
According to them, these people form a minute fraction of three groups of homosexuals and ought to be assisted in that regard.
The second and third groups, he said, are people who are professing to be gays because of peer pressure and monetary issues.
There are people who have little medical or hormonal problems, others are also engaging in gay acts out of peer pressure and monetary issues, he said, adding that the second and third group ought to be dealt with as ones engaging in criminal acts.
“We must separate this last two groups and deal with them according to the criminal aspects of the law but assist those who need some psychological help and also make them aware that the power of God can drive away the spirit of homosexuality from them…,” he said.
Legalisation of homosexuality in the country has become a topical issue in the country once more following the President’s comments about the perceived abominable act in the country in an interview on Al Jazeera.
Asked why the country has failed to legalize homosexuality in the country, the president said until there is a strong call by the society for this to be done, there is no way the laws will be changed.
“This is a social, cultural issue, I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say ‘change it, let’s now have a new paradigm in Ghana.
“At the moment, I don’t feel, I don’t see that in Ghana there is that strong current of opinion that is saying this is something we need to deal with. It is not so far a matter that is on the agenda,” he added.
Reacting to the issue of homosexuality in the country, Lawyer Foh Amoaning said he does not see the practice as a fundamental human right. To him, being gay is an infringement on the right to life and hence ought to be looked at in that direction.
“The fundamental human right issue is right to life, so how do we protect the fundamental human right of right to life if we all decide to be gay?
He added that the argument of homosexuals do not hold water in law as it has no legal basis.
Moses Foh Amoaning said he and other Lawyers against the practice of homosexuality in the country are getting ready to hold a colloquium to bring the issue of homosexuality into the public domain and an antidote sought for it once and for all.

Bribery scandal: Ayariga was misled – Foh Amoaning http://34.58.148.58/bribery-scandal-ayariga-misled-foh-amoaning/ Thu, 06 Apr 2017 07:18:53 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=64761 Ace broadcaster and lawyer, Moses Foh Amoaning, is convinced Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, made the bribery allegations against three MPs and a Minister based on false information.

According to him, Mahama Ayariga should have examined critically the source of his information on the bribery claim against the chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko other MPs before going public.

“Ayariga was setup and I think he should look for the person who informed him about the alleged bribe money brought by the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko,” Moses Foh Amoaning said on Wednesday on Adom FM’s Burning Issues program hosted by Afia Pokua.

“He [Ayariga] must tell us who informed him about the said alleged bribe, ” Foh Amoaning said.

Following Mr. Ayariga’s claim that some GHC 3,000 was given to some Minority MPs on the Appointment’s Committee in a bid to influence their decision, the Speaker of Parliament constituted an internal probe into the matter.

The Joe Ghartey-led committee was tasked to investigate, among other things, whether the Chair of the Appointment Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, sanctioned the disbursement of the bribery money as claimed by Mr. Ayariga.

The Committee, however, found no evidence to support the allegations by the Bawku Central legislator and, therefore, recommended that Mr. Ayariga should be punished.

The Committee also said in its report that Mr. Ayariga failed to prove that Mr. Boakye Agyarko, the Energy Minister, gave money to Mr. Osei-Owusu, Chairman to be distributed to the committee members with a view to bribing them to approve Mr. Agyarko’s nomination by consensus.

Mr. Ayariga subsequently offered a half-hearted apology, however, the Speaker, Prof. Mike Ocquaye, is expected to deliver his ruling on the matter by Friday, April 7, 2017, before the House goes on recess for Easter holidays.

Commenting on the matter, Foh Amoaning said contrary to indications by Mr. Ayariga, going to court will not be a good move.

“If Ayariga wants to go to court then [Mr. Osei-Owusu] must also be allowed to go to court” Foh Amoaning emphasized.

Mr. Osei-Owusu had threatened to go to court to seek redress for the damaging allegation made against him, but he later backed down.
