Addressing a gathering, Mr Kwetey said he was increasingly disturbed by what he sees as a growing culture of excessive praise and unquestioning loyalty within the party.

According to him, some individuals have come to believe that flattering party leaders is the only way to secure relevance or personal opportunity.

“These days it saddens me when I see sycophancy creep into our party,” he said. “You see a group of people who believe that singing the praises of a leader is the only way they can survive. That is why you hear some of those people even urging statements like there should be a third term.”

He dismissed such calls outright, describing them as “nothing but sycophancy pure sycophancy and boot-licking of the highest order”.

Mr Kwetey stressed that the NDC’s traditions do not support the glorification of individuals at the expense of democratic principles.

Referring to the late Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the NDC, Mr Kwetey noted that Mr Rawlings was never encouraged by party members to seek a third term in office.

He said this historical example highlights the contrast between the party’s founding values and the current behaviour of some supporters.

“Jerry Rawlings, who founded this party, was never at any point urged by anybody to go for a third term,” he said.

The General Secretary further accused advocates of a third term of acting out of self-interest rather than genuine commitment to the party or the nation.

“You have a bunch of sycophants who think that singing praises will get them the opportunity they are looking for,” he remarked. “You don’t love our country, and you don’t love our party.”

Mr Kwetey reminded party members of the NDC’s core mission, emphasising that the party was established to serve the needs of the Ghanaian people, not individual ambitions.

“It is important to appreciate that this party was grounded on the need to work for our people,” he said.

NDC reflects on first year in office, pledges economic recovery and stronger governance http://34.58.148.58/ndc-reflects-on-first-year-in-office-pledges-economic-recovery-and-stronger-governance/ Wed, 24 Dec 2025 16:27:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613785 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has used its Christmas and New Year message to take stock of its first year in government, highlighting efforts to rebuild public confidence, steady the economy, and improve the performance of state institutions.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretariat on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said it remains mindful of the responsibility placed on it by Ghanaians and is focused on delivering policies that bring tangible benefits to citizens.

The party described 2025 as a period marked by firm policy choices aimed at addressing economic pressures, strengthening accountability, and creating the basis for sustained national growth, while ensuring that social protection remains a priority.

“This festive season marks one year since Ghanaians entrusted the NDC with the responsibility to govern. We acknowledge this trust and remain committed to turning our vision into real improvements in the lives of the people,” the statement said.

Outlining its outlook for 2026, the NDC identified economic recovery, job creation for the youth, stronger public institutions, and improved living standards as key areas of focus.

The party assured Ghanaians that it will continue to pursue pragmatic governance, responsive leadership, and disciplined use of public resources, while carefully managing expectations in the year ahead.

The message concluded with a pledge to sustain efforts to stabilise the economy, roll out policies with measurable impact, and keep the welfare of citizens at the centre of governance.

Deliver the first scandal and you’re on your own – Fifi Kwetey confirms Mahama’s hard warning to ministers http://34.58.148.58/deliver-the-first-scandal-and-youre-on-your-own-fifi-kwetey-confirms-mahamas-hard-warning-to-ministers/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 09:22:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2611693 President John Mahama has issued a firm warning to his ministers that any involvement in a scandal will attract swift and severe consequences, with no protection from the presidency or the party.

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, confirmed the warning during an interview on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, saying the message from President Mahama to his cabinet was clear and unequivocal.

“I can confirm that 100% and I can also confirm that not only has he done that, but the party has also solidly stood behind him, even in cabinet, we are fully behind him in terms of doing that,” Mr Kwetey said.

President John Mahama has repeatedly spoken about restoring discipline, accountability, and integrity in public office, amid public concerns about corruption and governance.

His warning to ministers comes as part of a broader effort to signal zero tolerance for scandals and to assure Ghanaians that wrongdoing in government will attract consequences, regardless of political affiliation.

According to him, the president made it clear to ministers that any wrongdoing would not be tolerated and that the party would not step in to shield anyone who brings scandal to government.

“If you are a member of government, and first of all, you know that the leader of the government is telling you in plain language that you are not going to tolerate any wrong thing, and then you also look and then see the leaders of the party backing him, it means that on all level, father and mother are on one alignment, and therefore you better do what is right,” he said.

Mr Kwetey argued that the firm posture explains the relative absence of scandals in government so far.

“That’s why you can go through a whole year, and you hardly can talk about scandals, because every single person does know that if you do that, you are on your own. The party is not shielding you. The Presidency is not shielding you,” he added.

Pressed on whether ministers would be dismissed if implicated in wrongdoing, Mr Kwetey was emphatic.

“Absolutely, and you will be dealt with,” he said.

He explained that “dealt with” meant facing the full weight of the law, without political interference.

“If what you do is wrong, you actually have to face what you call due process. If you have to be taken to court, you’ll be taken to court. Nobody is shielding you. If you have to be jailed, you’re going to be jailed,” he stated.

Mr Kwetey said the stance reflects a deliberate effort to break with a culture where political parties protect their own at the expense of the national interest.

“A situation where NDC has come, therefore NDC must shield itself, must protect itself, must cover people who are doing wrong. That must be a thing of the past. The country’s interest must remain,” he said.

Asked how cabinet ministers received the warning, Mr Kwetey said they clearly understood that the president was serious.

“I think they clearly do know that the president means every bit of what he said,” he noted.

He revealed that President Mahama even reinforced the message with humour, while leaving no room for doubt.

“The President actually tells them, in joking, that once you hit the trouble, don’t even bother calling, because your call will not be picked up. What is to be done will be done,” he said.

‘Jean Mensa and deputies must go’ – Fifi Kwetey says EC leadership has lost public trust http://34.58.148.58/jean-mensa-and-deputies-must-go-fifi-kwetey-says-ec-leadership-has-lost-public-trust/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 06:48:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2611617 The NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her deputies have no justification to remain in office following petitions challenging their conduct.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, Mr Kwetey said while due process must be allowed to take its course, the allegations raised strike at the heart of Ghana’s democracy.

“I’m not going to jump the gun. I want to say that if the petitions have been submitted, let the due process be followed,” he said.

However, he argued that the substance of the accusations against the leadership of the Electoral Commission goes beyond partisan interest and touches on a fundamental breach of democracy.

“I’ve said it on the back of that, for me, that says that’s the biggest crime that can ever be committed,” he stated. “Any group that supervises that has clearly no reason to remain in office.”

Mr Kwetey described the alleged wrongdoing as a direct assault on citizens’ right to be represented.

“That’s the biggest crime you can commit in any democracy, to take away what you call the right of people from being represented,” he said.

“So it’s not so much about what I want. It’s about what I think is wrong.”

His comments come amid mounting pressure on the Electoral Commission following petitions seeking the removal of its Chairperson and deputies.

This development has reignited public debate about the credibility and independence of the electoral management body.

Pressed on whether the calls for removal were being driven by NDC leadership, Mr Kwetey rejected the suggestion, insisting the sentiment extends far beyond party lines.

“I believe that if you could commission an independent survey to gain the consent of the people of Ghana, I believe that a vast majority of Ghanaians would want them gone too,” he said.

“So I don’t think it’s anything to do with a general secretary or the national chairman,” he added. “I think the people of Ghana would want them gone, too.”

‘There is no conspiracy by NDC’ – Fifi Kwetey on OSP Bill fallout after presidential intervention http://34.58.148.58/there-is-no-conspiracy-by-ndc-fifi-kwetey-on-osp-bill-fallout-after-presidential-intervention/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 04:21:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2611567 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has dismissed claims of a conspiracy within the party to scrap the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, the Ketu South MP said the withdrawal of the private member’s bill was a direct result of presidential intervention, not a coordinated party agenda against the anti-corruption office.

“What I will say is that you heard what the President actually said, that they should withdraw it,” he stated.

The controversy followed the sponsorship of a private member’s bill by the Majority Leader and the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, seeking to abolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The move sparked public backlash and raised questions about whether the NDC was deliberately targeting the office.

Mr Kwetey stressed that the issue was not about intent to undermine the Special Prosecutor but about internal party processes being ignored.

“The majority leader, the chief whip, they are doing a great job so far,” he said. “There’s a need for them to also appreciate that they are not an island. They’re operating as part of the party.”

He disclosed that the party leadership was not consulted before the bill was introduced.

“Clearly, we were not consulted,” he said.

According to him, major decisions must be made collectively to avoid situations in which the President is forced to publicly overrule members of his own party.

“So the point I’m making is, don’t go do things that will force the President to come and say no,” he said. “Work as an organ. Work together.”

Mr Kwetey said he had already addressed the matter privately with the leadership in Parliament and would not go further in public.

“I’ve already said that on a private level, and I have told them,” he added. “As for the public, that’s all I can say.”

When asked whether the bill was withdrawn solely because the President intervened, Mr Kwetey said such situations must be avoided going forward.

“Naturally it will be,” he said. “But we don’t need to go through that in the future.”

He also issued a pointed caution about decision-making speed without consultation.

“And that goes especially to the chief whip,” he said. “Sometimes, he tends to want to hasten things without proper consultation.”

There are no cracks in NDC – Fifi Kwetey on Special Prosecutor Bill withdrawal http://34.58.148.58/there-are-no-cracks-in-ndc-fifi-kwetey-on-special-prosecutor-bill-withdrawal/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 11:35:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2611342 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has dismissed suggestions of internal division within the party following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to withdraw a Private Member’s Bill seeking to abolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Mr Kwetey clarified that views expressed by individual Members of Parliament should not be misconstrued as the official position of the NDC.

“Individuals can have their own perspectives on the Special Prosecutor,” he said. “A position only becomes the party’s official stance when it is discussed and agreed upon at the highest level of the party, such as the political committee, which is led by the President and includes both current and past leaders.”

He stressed that unless a position has been formally adopted by the party’s leadership, comments made in Parliament reflect personal opinions rather than the collective view of the NDC.

“Whatever somebody might say in Parliament represents that person’s personal position, and that personal position is absolutely not the party’s position. It’s okay to have disagreement; it’s not a problem,” he stated.

Mr Kwetey further explained that President Mahama, as leader of both government and party, ultimately defines and communicates the NDC’s official stance on major national issues.

“What the President states as the leader of the party represents that position. The President can even disagree with a minister, but at the end of the day, the one in charge of the vehicle is the President,” he said. “Together with the leadership of the party, he represents the highest authority, and those decisions have to be made.”

He emphasised that while party members are entitled to express personal views, it is important to distinguish between individual opinions and official party positions.

“We are not saying you are not entitled to your personal opinion. Individuals can have their own positions, but ultimately, the party’s view is articulated by the President,” Mr Kwetey added.

His comments come amid public speculation that President Mahama’s instruction to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor to withdraw the Bill had exposed divisions within the NDC—claims Mr Kwetey firmly rejected.

Nana Konadu was preparing to rejoin NDC before her demise – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/nana-konadu-was-preparing-to-rejoin-ndc-before-her-demise-fifi-kwetey/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 08:33:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593084 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has disclosed that the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, was on the verge of returning to the party before her death on Thursday, 23 October 2025.

“I wouldn’t say the talks were unsuccessful. I would rather say timing was the challenge. Because even on her part, you could clearly see that she was ready,” he told the media after leadership of the party visited the Rawlings to sympathise with them on Monday, October 27.

He noted that the NDC had long acknowledged her monumental role in the party’s founding and growth, emphasising that recent years had been spent working to heal old wounds.

“We have always maintained that, given her contribution to building this party and making it formidable, it was important to put past differences behind us. I am glad that before her passing, these reconciliation efforts had begun, and she welcomed them,” he added.

Nana Konadu, wife of the NDC’s founder and former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a defining force in the party’s formative years and a pioneering advocate for women’s empowerment through the 31st December Women’s Movement.

Following her defeat in the NDC’s 2011 presidential primary, she broke away to establish the National Democratic Party (NDP) in 2012.

Although disqualified from contesting that year’s general election, she later ran as the NDP’s presidential candidate in 2016.

Mr. Kwetey described Nana Konadu as a formidable and visionary leader whose courage, dedication, and advocacy for women would continue to inspire generations within and beyond the NDC.

NDC bigwigs cutting deals with corrupt officials of previous gov’t – Fifi Kwetey alleges http://34.58.148.58/ndc-bigwigs-cutting-deals-with-corrupt-officials-of-previous-govt-fifi-kwetey-alleges/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 07:36:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2575677 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has alleged that some party members are attempting to broker deals with individuals facing possible prosecution by the government.

Addressing the 5th Annual General Conference of NDC lawyers, Mr. Kwetey stopped short of naming those involved but warned that such actions undermine the party’s fight against corruption.

“Many among us, despite pleas and pressure that punishment must be properly meted, are busy trying to cut deals with people who are supposed to be prosecuted,” he said.

He added, “Some are becoming conduits through whom pressure is being brought to bear on people who are supposed to do what is right. I may not mention names, but a time will come when we may have to.”

The comments come amid the NDC’s renewed pledge to recover assets allegedly lost to corruption through its Operation Recover All Loots initiative, which aims to prosecute individuals found culpable. Investigations into some officials of the previous government are already underway.

Mr. Kwetey stressed that the party’s credibility and electoral fortunes depend on demonstrating a strong stance against corruption. “The people want what is right, and what is right needs to be done,” he said.

He further urged the Attorney General and his team to remain steadfast in carrying out their mandate. “Attorney General, please continue to be strong, continue to be firm, you and your team. If you succumb, the problem will be you,” he warned.

According to Mr. Kwetey, those trying to shield corrupt actors today may later attempt to blame the Attorney General’s office for inefficiency.

A broken country can’t be healed in 120 days – Fifi Kwetey to critics http://34.58.148.58/a-broken-country-cant-be-healed-in-120-days-fifi-kwetey-to-critics/ Wed, 14 May 2025 10:03:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534819 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary says Ghanaians should not expect President John Mahama to achieve perfection in just four months after inheriting what he described as a “broken and soulless nation” from the Akufo-Addo administration.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, speaking on PM Express, said the NDC came into office not just to govern, but to repair the deep moral and economic damage left behind by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“We do not expect to achieve excellence in four months,” Mr. Kwetey said, pushing back against rising criticism of the government’s pace.

“First of all, you must appreciate that we are taking over a country that is not in a very good place—and that is not just being political.”

The Ketu South MP described the country under Akufo-Addo as one that didn’t just suffer economic decline but something more corrosive.

“We’re talking about a country that’s gone through what I call eight years of moral decadence. You cannot have gone through eight years of such soulless leadership, as we have seen in an Akufo-Addo government, and expect that within a matter of four months, everything is going to just be excellent.”

When host Evans Mensah reminded him that the NDC itself set a 120-day target for results, Mr. Kwetey responded that “Ultimately, what matters more is what Ghanaians feel.”

“I think the people of Ghana feel confident that they have a leadership that is not perfect, but a leadership that is determined to ensure that it does far better than what we have seen over the last eight years.”

He said the real measure of the government’s success isn’t abstract timelines or campaign promises, but the faith of ordinary Ghanaians.

“Not just in terms of the character of the leadership, but in terms of the desire to accomplish something for the country,” he said. “Not to spend all the time lamenting over the past, but try to fix the problem.”

Mr. Kwetey insisted that the current government is not repeating the mistakes of the NPP.

“It’s a leadership that you can clearly see is laying foundations and sowing seeds that will bring about a transformation of the economy,” he said. “And generally, it’s a leadership that wasn’t there before.”

He framed the challenge not as one of optics or political messaging but as a long-term project that demands patience and trust.

The new government, he said, is focused on deep reforms, not flashy results.

“We are not here to play to the gallery,” he said. “We are here to restore the very soul of the country, which was crushed by an administration that lost its moral compass.”

For Fifi Kwetey, the road to national recovery will be hard, and it will take more than four months—but what matters now is that the country is finally on the right path.

NPP wants applause for cedi stability, but not the blame for its collapse – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/npp-wants-applause-for-cedi-stability-but-not-the-blame-for-its-collapse-fifi-kwetey/ Wed, 14 May 2025 07:10:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534755 General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scrambling to rewrite its legacy by claiming credit for the recent appreciation of the cedi.

He said they want glory now while distancing themselves from the severe economic mess they created during their time in power.

During his appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express, the Ketu South MP accused the NPP of cherry-picking economic narratives to cover up its failings.

“They want to take credit for the recent cedi stability but forget that they were the very architects of the collapse,” he said.

“You can’t run away from the disaster and come back when it looks like a fix is on the way.”

According to Mr. Kwetey, the NPP’s behaviour is hypocritical and disingenuous.

“It’s almost as if they caused the house to burn down and now want applause for showing up with a cup of water,” he said.

“They ran away from every negative indicator—the inflation, the debt, the hardships—but now that the currency is inching back up, they want to suddenly own it.”

He accused the NPP of abandoning responsibility the moment Ghana’s economy spiralled under their watch, only to re-emerge with self-congratulatory rhetoric now that the NDC government is implementing tough but necessary reforms.

“If they had that much faith in their own economic team, why did they spend their last year in power pointing fingers and hiding behind excuses?” he asked.

Mr. Kwetey warned that Ghanaians must not fall for what he described as the NPP’s desperate attempt to stay politically relevant by distorting the facts.

“This is an opposition that created the crisis. Now they want to claim the recovery they did nothing to bring about,” he said.

He then turned his attention to the judiciary, suggesting the NPP is now in panic because they can no longer rely on the protection they allegedly enjoyed from the Chief Justice.

“The NPP’s worry is that they feel her departure makes it difficult for them now to feel safe when cases are brought against them,” he said.

“Because they are now afraid that the person who could possibly be manipulating the system to help them is no longer there.”

Mr. Kwetey was reacting to growing concerns around the Chief Justice, against whom a prima facie case has been established. For him, this is not about political vengeance but about principle.

“If the person in charge of the country’s justice system can’t be held to the same laws the rest of us must obey, then what kind of justice do we have?” he asked.

He added: “As far as I’m concerned, if she has done everything okay, there’s no problem. But if there’s a problem and it’s established, then that’s it. She has to go.”

When host Evans Mensah posed a counter question, suggesting that the NDC might also have a vested interest in removing her to ensure favourable court rulings, Mr. Kwetey dismissed the idea.

“We are looking for justice,” he stressed. “Justice simply means that if you truly abuse the system, you should go. Whether it benefits us or not is not the point. The point is that wrong is wrong.”

He said he trusts the Council of State and the individuals involved in reviewing the matter. “These are noble people, including a former Chief Justice and a former Speaker of Parliament,” he said. “They will not go on a witch hunt.”

He also defended President John Mahama’s leadership and sense of fairness. “I know John Mahama. He’s not petty. He doesn’t target innocent people. But once a case is established, we must act.”

Let justice take its course even if it reaches the Chief Justice’ – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/let-justice-take-its-course-even-if-it-reaches-the-chief-justice-fifi-kwetey/ Wed, 14 May 2025 06:56:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534745 Justice must be allowed to take its course, even if it reaches the highest levels of the judiciary, says Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, he defended the government’s handling of the case involving the Chief Justice and emphasized that no one should be above the law, not even the one who presides over it.

“This country’s very soul thrives on freedom and justice,” the Ketu South MP stated.

“But if it’s pretty clear that the one who is supposed to be in charge of the justice of our country herself is not able to live up to the high mantra of doing things according to the law, then charity must begin at home,” he added.

Mr. Kwetey reiterated that the probe into the Chief Justice’s conduct is not politically motivated but driven by a deep commitment to accountability.

“As far as I’m concerned, if she has done everything okay, there’s no problem,” he noted. “But if there’s a problem and it’s established, then that’s it.”

He insisted that the process must be allowed to unfold without interference.

“I trust the people who make up the Council of State, including a former Chief Justice of our country and a former Speaker of Parliament. I think those are noble people who will not simply go on a witch hunt. They will be able to do a proper job,” he said.

He also defended President Mahama’s integrity in handling the matter.

“I know John Mahama as a person. He is not a petty-minded person who simply wants to take an innocent person and punish,” he said.

The NDC General Secretary emphasized that a prima facie case has already been established and that the next steps must follow the law.

“Clearly, once a case is established against her, she has to go. And if the case is shown that she actually has no case to answer, there is no problem,” he asserted.

Mr. Kwetey accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of panicking over the situation.

“The NPP worries that they feel her departure makes it difficult for them to feel safe when cases are brought against them. Because now they are afraid that the person who could possibly be manipulating the system to help them is no more,” he said.

When host Evans Mensah pointed out that the same logic could be used to accuse the NDC of wanting her removed for their advantage, Mr. Kwetey responded: “We are looking for justice. Justice simply means that if you truly abuse the system, you should go. If you are guilty, you should be out.”

He rejected any suggestion that the government was using the situation to neutralize judicial opposition.

“This is not about fear. It’s about principle. The law must be applied, even at the highest levels,” he stated.

For Mr. Kwetey, the message is clear: the pursuit of justice must be blind to position or power.

And in this case, the Chief Justice should face scrutiny like any other public servant, he concluded.

“Let justice take its course, even if it reaches the Chief Justice,” he said.

Mistakes in team composition can be costly; pray for us – Fifi Kwetey appeals to Ghanaians http://34.58.148.58/mistakes-in-team-composition-can-be-costly-pray-for-us-fifi-kwetey-appeals-to-ghanaians/ Fri, 10 Jan 2025 18:19:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2491737 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians, party supporters, and religious leaders for their prayers and contributions that led to the party’s electoral victory on December 7, 2024.

Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving (Muslim Prayers) on Friday, January 10, Mr Kwetey emphasised the significance of the victory, describing it as not merely a political win but a spiritual triumph for Ghana.

“We want to thank you on behalf of the great NDC for all the hard work all of you put in – your prayers, the assistance that we got from you that delivered the great victory that we had on December 7,” he said.

Acknowledging the role of divine intervention, Mr Kwetey stressed the importance of continued prayers and guidance as the government embarks on its agenda under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

“We fully know that in the same way, God’s hand has been mighty in delivering that victory, the same way it is important for us to continue acknowledging and seeking His guidance through the initial stages of our government, all the way to the four-year mandate of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama,” he stated.

Mr Kwetey highlighted the crucial task of assembling a competent team to support the administration, likening the process to forming a football team where every member must be strategically positioned for success.

“Mistakes can be made, and once those mistakes are made, it can cause us so we need your prayers. We need your guidance and the wisdom especially for His Excellency and the team around him to ensure that the choices to be made are choices that will be in accordance with the divine plan concerning our country,” he said.

The NDC General Secretary reiterated the party’s commitment to fulfilling what he described as a “divine agenda” for the country, promising a transformative journey between now and 2029.

Mr Kwetey also extended his gratitude to the Chief Imam and others who supported the party through prayers during the campaign period, noting their contributions ensured smooth and incident-free operations across the country.

“We are so grateful, Chief Imam, for your prayers, for all of you who continue to pray for us,” he said.

He urged Ghanaians to continue their support through prayers, expressing confidence that divine guidance will lead to a successful tenure for the Mahama-led administration.

Speaking at the 43rd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution, NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey heavily criticized the current administration for what he termed “unprecedented levels of greed, selfishness, and policy failures,” which have led to widespread poverty across the country.

“The lies, the selfishness, and the greed we have witnessed under this government are unprecedented,” Mr Kwetey said.

“The corruption and decadence have reached alarming levels, and the policies have failed to address the needs of the people. As a result, poverty has become endemic under the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration.”

He added that the people of Ghana, faced with these failures, were naturally driven to “rebel” against the government’s shortcomings.

“In the midst of all this, the soul of Ghana willed to rebel,” Mr Kwetey stated. “This victory, therefore, is the victory of the soul of Ghana against the decadence of the NPP.”

While celebrating the NDC’s progress, he stressed the need for the party to reflect on its responsibilities, urging it to move beyond political rivalry and focus on the country’s collective welfare.

“We must transcend the ‘me versus them’ mentality,” he said.

“Ghana must become the centre of all we do.There are good people in the NPP and we need to find ways to celebrate those good people and urge that they gradually take over that party so that that party becomes just as virtuous as we are trying to make the NDC, so that we can have two parties that boast, care and love this country and believe in truth for the sake of the future of our country.”

The NDC General Secretary further stated that while he could wish for the NPP to remain in turmoil, his true hope for Ghana is progress and unity.

“I know I am expected to wish that the NPP remains in difficulty, but that is not my wish for Ghana,” he said.

“We must remain grounded, humble, and recognize the enormity of the challenges ahead. Ghana does not expect perfection from John Mahama or the NDC. What Ghana wants is leadership that is committed to the well-being of its people and leaders who have the courage to accept the truth when necessary”.

The 43rd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution, commemorated at the Nungua Town Park, marks a key event in the NDC’s history.

The theme for this year’s event, “Victory 2024, Time to Reset Ghana,” reflects the party’s political significance.

The revolution, led by the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, overthrew the People’s National Party (PNP) government of Dr Hilla Limann in 1981, driven by a desire to address economic mismanagement, corruption, and inefficiency in governance.

Electoral crimes have no expiry date, time of reckoning will come – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/electoral-crimes-have-no-expiry-date-time-of-reckoning-will-come-fifi-kwetey/ Sat, 21 Dec 2024 18:41:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2486526 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has issued a stern warning, asserting that electoral malpractices and crimes will not go unpunished.

In a brief post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Kwetey cautioned those involved in election irregularities, signaling that accountability will follow the anticipated transition of power on January 7.

“Electoral crimes have no expiry date. After January 7, the time of reckoning will come,” the post stated.

Mr. Kwetey’s remarks come as the Electoral Commission (EC) conducts a re-collation of results for nine disputed constituencies.

So far, the EC has declared results for seven constituencies, all in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, and Tema Central.

2024 election was a battle for the ‘soul of Ghana’ against NPP – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/2024-election-was-a-battle-for-the-soul-of-ghana-against-npp-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 07:12:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485438 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the 2024 general elections as a pivotal moment for the nation, framing it as a battle for the “soul of Ghana” against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey noted that the election transcended ordinary politics, reflecting the frustration and disillusionment of Ghanaians with the incumbent administration.

In an interview on JoyNews‘ Upfront on Wednesday, he argued that the election represented a spiritual and moral reckoning for the NPP government, which he accused of inflicting widespread economic pain on the populace.

Mr Kwetey characterized the election as a spiritual battle, asserting that the NPP’s actions had created “massive vertical energy” aimed at humiliating them.

“This election was beyond politics. It was about the soul of Ghana versus the NPP,” he said, adding that the outcome reflected the collective will of a nation seeking change.

He noted that the “hand of God had long departed” from the NPP, citing the government’s failure to accept responsibility for Ghana’s economic challenges and its reliance on external excuses such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“A government that inflicts so much economic pain, shows deception, and refuses to accept responsibility cannot expect blessings,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin still suffering from the massive defeat – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/afenyo-markin-still-suffering-from-the-massive-defeat-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 07:02:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485446 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has brushed off comments made by outgoing Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The Effutu legislator had suggested that the incoming NDC government would struggle to raise revenue while fulfilling campaign promises to abolish so-called nuisance taxes including the controversial E-Levy.

Speaking on JoyNews‘ Upfront on December 18, Mr Kwetey dismissed the assertions, attributing them to the shock of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) election defeat.

“I don’t know why… but you should understand. I mean, when you go through such a massive defeat, it’s not easy. So I can understand, my young brother is going through quite a bit. You know, Afenyo actually said it was going to be a curse for him to sit at the place of the minority, now he’s become what you call the leader of not a minority, but of a micro, micro minority.”

During the campaign, the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia promised to scrap the contentious E-Levy, a tax introduced by his government.

Mr Kwetey questioned why Mr Afenyo-Markin doubted the NDC’s ability to deliver on similar promises.

“They said they were going to remove the E-Levy during their campaign. If they could promise that, it means it’s feasible. The E-Levy was touted as the solution to all of Ghana’s economic problems, but what did we see? The economy went through unprecedented humiliation even with the E-Levy in place. That tells you it was never the solution in the first place,” Mr Kwetey argued.

The NDC, he explained, intends to find creative ways to generate revenue and unleash economic potential without resorting to regressive taxes like the E-Levy.

Kufuor didn’t leave behind a strong economy – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/kufuor-didnt-leave-behind-a-strong-economy-fifi-kwetey/ Wed, 18 Dec 2024 21:10:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485353 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has refuted claims that former President John Agyekum Kufuor left behind a robust economy, stating that the reality of Ghana’s financial situation at the time was far from strong.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront, Mr. Kwetey addressed the challenges the National Democratic Congress (NDC) faced when it assumed power in 2009, drawing attention to the economic issues inherited from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under Kufuor.

Mr. Kwetey described the 8% economic growth during Kufuor’s tenure in the final years of his administration as “cosmetic,” emphasising that it did not reflect the reality of the economy’s fundamentals.

“That growth was nominal, driven by temporary factors rather than substantive improvements in the real economy,” he explained. “The fundamentals were weak, and we had to work hard to rebuild the economy from the ground up.”

“..Somehow people forget, people create the impression as if that President Kufuor left an economy that was so strong. No, it was not strong.”

He pointed out several key indicators of economic instability that characterized the period.

According to him, the cedi depreciated by over 20% in the final year of President Kufuor’s administration, highlighting significant weaknesses in currency stability. Inflation, which stood at 18% when the NDC took over, quickly rose to 21%, exacerbating the financial challenges.

Again, he noted that the banking sector was also in crisis, with the Ghana Commercial Bank teetering on the brink of collapse.

Additionally, the country’s balance of payments was severely negative, underscoring difficulties in external trade and financial management, adding that a fiscal deficit of 15%, coupled with judgment debts and unpaid commitments amounting to 22% of GDP, was clear evidence of economic mismanagement during the period.

Mr. Kwetey, however, drew parallels between the challenges faced in 2009 and the current economic crisis, asserting that the NDC has a track record of tackling severe economic problems.

“This is not the first time we are coming into government and meeting challenges. In 2009, we inherited an economy in disarray, but through hard work and strategic measures, we stabilised and rebuilt it. The scale of the current crisis is much bigger, but we are ready to face it once again.”

It won’t be business as usual, remain humble – Fifi Kwetey to party members http://34.58.148.58/it-wont-be-business-as-usual-remain-humble-fifi-kwetey-to-party-members/ Wed, 18 Dec 2024 21:08:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485347 General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has called on party members to prioritise integrity as they prepare to assume power on January 7, 2025.

According to him, there would be no point in criticizing the current administration for corruption if the incoming NDC leadership takes over only to perpetrate the same.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews a week after John Mahama was declared president-elect, Mr. Kwetey stressed the need for the party to distinguish itself from the outgoing administration by rejecting any tendencies of corruption.

“Why would you attack them for being corrupt and then want to do the same thing? For me, I never understand that,” he explained on Upfront on December 18.

“This victory is about Ghana, and it’s not going to be business as usual. The future of the country is far more important than making any individual happy.”

Mr. Kwetey also urged party members to remain humble and remember that the election victory represents the aspirations of all Ghanaians, not just the NDC.

“We applaud every single thing that every member of the party has done, but we must appreciate that this victory transcends the NDC. It is a mandate to lead Ghana with accountability and transparency,” he stated.

His comments come as the NDC prepares to transition into governance, with calls for unity and ethical leadership resonating within the party.

The NDC has already introduced a preparatory committee for what it describes as Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

The NDC has assured to drive Ghana’s progress and prosperity.

The NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey made the statement while addressing a press conference on Sunday.

The former Ketu South Member of Parliament stated that, the party remains focused on serving the nation responsibly, with its newly secured mandate.

Mr Kwetey also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) and its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, not to unnecessarily delay the declaration of results.

“We have secured a very significant majority and a majority that we aim to use responsibly and for the progress of the people of Ghana.

“The process as far as the presidential result is also concerned, we will urge the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa and her team to make sure the declaration is not unduly delayed because we know for a fact that nothing can be done about it because it is already in the bag,” he said.

2024 polls: Ghana ready for Mahama’s comeback – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/2024-polls-ghana-ready-for-mahamas-comeback-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 19:04:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479862 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has expressed steadfast confidence in John Dramani Mahama’s return as Ghana’s President.

Addressing a spirited crowd at the NDC’s final rally held at Zurak Park in Madina on Thursday, December 5, Mr Kwetey urged Ghanaians to seize the moment for change by voting overwhelmingly for the NDC in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

He called on citizens to allow divine will to prevail, asserting that electing Mahama as the next president was both a political necessity and a higher calling.

“Once you stand by the truth, God will fulfill His word. The word of God concerning December 7 is that Ghana is due for victory, Ghana is due for change, and Ghana is due for the return of John Dramani Mahama. No power will stop this,” he declared.

He appealed directly to the youth, highlighting their struggles under the current administration.

“December 7 is for the youth. You must consider the suffering, the disappointment, and the loss of hope. Come out and make a powerful statement that enough is enough—the NPP must go,” he stated.

NDC confident of first-round victory in 2024 polls http://34.58.148.58/ndc-confident-of-first-round-victory-in-2024-polls/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 07:29:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479425 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure a decisive victory in the first round of the upcoming December general elections.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, December 3, Mr Kwetey dismissed the possibility of a runoff, affirming the NDC’s optimism regarding its prospects in the presidential race.

“We are confident of a first-round win, but ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the Ghanaian people,” Mr Kwetey stated.

While expressing hope for a favourable outcome, he acknowledged that the electorate holds the power to determine the final result.

Mr Kwetey also criticised the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Jean Mensa, for what he described as shortcomings in its performance.

He highlighted the delays in special voting for the Western and Eastern Regions as evidence of the Commission’s challenges.

According to him, these setbacks raise questions about the EC’s competence and ability to manage the electoral process efficiently.

“The EC, under Jean Mensa, has presented itself as the best in our history, but the evidence suggests otherwise. From issues of neutrality and independence to the recent postponement of special voting in two major regions, the Commission has not demonstrated it is on top of its job,” he remarked.

Drawing comparisons to previous EC chairs, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan and Charlotte Osei, Mr Kwetey expressed concerns over the leadership and competence of the current Commission, emphasising that these issues could undermine confidence in the electoral process.

NPP’s play for NDC strongholds is normal in politics, we are not complacent – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/npps-play-for-ndc-strongholds-is-normal-in-politics-we-are-not-complacent-fifi-kwetey/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 15:57:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478656 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called for renewed efforts to solidify the party’s dominance in the Volta Region, a long-standing NDC stronghold.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, December 2, Kwetey responded to former President John Mahama’s concerns regarding the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s increasing presence in the region. He urged the party to avoid complacency.

“It’s more of an issue of saying, let’s not be complacent,” Fifi Kwetey emphasized.

“We shouldn’t assume that we will continue winning massively without putting in the extra effort that needs to be done.”

He added, “That’s not to say that we suddenly expect the Volta Region, which has traditionally been a stronghold of the NDC, to somehow significantly change in the NDC’s favour. No.”

The Ketu South MP stressed the importance of reminding the people of Volta of the NDC’s development record.

“We’ve done a lot for you. This is a party that has clearly shown its commitment to the people,” he said.

Addressing criticisms that the NDC has taken the Volta Region for granted, he argued that the party’s track record speaks for itself.

“Of course, it’s the NPP’s job to say that we’re taking you for granted. But we have shown that we are the better political party.”

Fifi Kwetey drew a parallel between the NDC’s strategies in Volta and its efforts in the NPP-dominated Ashanti Region.

“We do the same thing in Ashanti, where we remind the people that, when it comes to genuine development, the NDC has actually delivered far more for Ashanti Region than the NPP has,” he claimed, citing projects such as the Kejetia Market, Kumasi Airport expansion, and other major infrastructure developments initiated under NDC governments.

While acknowledging the competitiveness inherent in politics, he underscored the need to keep the NDC’s base motivated.

“Politics is normal. Your opponent will always try to appeal to people who don’t generally vote for them,” he explained.

“Just look at what happened in America, where Trump sought the Black and Hispanic votes—groups that traditionally didn’t vote for Republicans.”

Similarly, he observed, the NPP is attempting to make inroads in the Volta Region. “The NPP will play that strategy in Volta. The NDC does the same in Ashanti. The job is to ensure you convince your people to stay solid behind you.”

Fifi Kwetey also took the opportunity to contrast the governance records of the two major parties, highlighting the NDC’s efficiency despite limited resources.

“We’re talking about a government that, in eight years, had access to $20 billion, while the NPP is now talking about nearly $800 billion in loans and borrowing.”

“And yet, we managed to achieve so much with $20 billion,” he argued.

“That’s a massive achievement, and that’s what makes the NDC a great political party that has shown faith—not just in Volta Region, but across the country.”

Acknowledging the NPP’s efforts in the Volta Region as part of a broader political strategy, Fifi Kwetey called for vigilance and proactive engagement.

“The job is not to assume loyalty but to work to earn it every time. That’s what we’re doing in Volta Region and everywhere else,” he concluded.

2024 Polls: Eyes wide open – Fifi Kwetey warns of Electoral Commission surprises http://34.58.148.58/2024-polls-eyes-wide-open-fifi-kwetey-warns-of-electoral-commission-surprises/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 08:41:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478407 The General Secretary of the opposition NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has expressed guarded optimism over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) improved engagement with political parties.

However, he maintained that the Commission’s history of perceived bias has created a “cloud of suspicion.”

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, December 2, the Ketu South MP shared his thoughts on the EC’s relationship with political stakeholders under Jean Mensa’s leadership and the NDC’s stance heading into the 2024 elections.

Responding to remarks about the EC’s openness and transparency, Mr Kwetey acknowledged progress but stated that trust remains fragile.

“I’ve not said that they have refused to listen to our concerns,” he clarified.

“I would like to say it this way: when you have created the kind of cloud of suspicion that has characterised your attitude ever since the Jean Mensa group took over—and that led to a major election—and what happened in that election, and subsequent to that election, the kind of intransigence that initially was the case… it’s difficult to fully trust.”

Mr Kwetey referred to the contentious 2020 general elections and subsequent incidents as reasons for the NDC’s scepticism.

He highlighted how initial resistance from the EC to address concerns was only mitigated after interventions by mediators like the Peace Council.

“The Peace Council had to step in and basically hold that meeting where we then decided, ‘Listen, enough, let’s start having an IPAC [Inter-Party Advisory Committee] that will be able to bring the political parties to the table”.

While acknowledging some improvement in the EC’s openness, Fifi Kwetey maintained that the history of the Commission’s appointments and decisions has left the NDC and others wary.

“Over the period, there has been some improvement, I must admit,” he conceded.

“But if you look at the history, and again you look at the fact of the appointments that have been done, you naturally create an opportunity for people to always decide that I’m going to keep my eyes wide open.”

The legislator compared the NDC’s preparation for the 2024 elections to a legendary Ghanaian boxing match, stressing vigilance and readiness for any surprises.

“We are approaching this with our eyes wide open, typically like Azumah [Nelson],” he said, referencing Ghana’s iconic boxing champion.

“We are entering into this like a finish, Azumah finish round two, and telling ourselves we are going in, not expecting favours from the EC, not expecting favours from anybody, but we have to go in there with a decisive capacity to win.”

The General Secretary underscored the NDC’s focus on self-reliance and determination.

“We never know what it feels that [the EC] may decide to pull off in the final minute,” he warned. “So, let’s just say we’re going in prepared for anything.”

Despite his criticisms, Fifi Kwetey struck a cautiously hopeful tone about the future.

“We’re not entering this process with blind trust, but with a strong resolve. The EC needs to ensure that it’s truly impartial if it wants to shed this cloud of suspicion.”

Ghanaians know what time it is – Fifi Kwetey confident of NDC victory http://34.58.148.58/ghanaians-know-what-time-it-is-fifi-kwetey-confident-of-ndc-victory/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 08:17:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478374 The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, is confident in Ghanaians’ ability to discern when change is necessary, just days before the highly anticipated December 7 elections.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, December 2, he highlighted the electorate’s historical wisdom in effecting leadership changes when needed and hinted at a palpable national appetite for change this year.

“Five days to the election, I would say that we are cautiously optimistic. We believe the people of Ghana know what time it is, and it will turn out well,” Fifi Kwetey stated.

“I just have faith in the people of Ghana. They are discerning, and they know when there’s a need for leadership change.”

Drawing parallels to past elections, the Ketu South MP cited pivotal years when the Ghanaian electorate decisively voted for change, including 2000, 2008, and 2016.

According to him, the current political climate suggests a similar shift is imminent.

“In 2000, it was pretty obvious to anyone discerning that change was in the air. The same happened in 2008—people spoke again.

“Even though 2008 looked difficult, anyone watching closely knew that change was coming. In 2016, despite the NDC’s hope to hold onto power, it was clear that Ghanaians were ready for a change,” he reflected.

He described the prevailing mood in the country as “far more pregnant” with anticipation for change than during those previous election cycles.

“This time, the mood is unmistakable. It’s stronger than it was in both 2008 and 2016. Ghanaians feel the state of the country, and they know the need for a leadership that works.”

Fifi Kwetey also addressed criticisms often levelled at voters and political delegates, asserting that both groups are often underestimated.

“People used to say that delegates cannot be relied upon, but they invariably have a good sense of how things are. The same applies to the electorate—they know what they want, and they are far from naive,” he said.

The General Secretary accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of non-performance and suggested that Ghanaians are ready to hold the party accountable.

While he stopped short of making definitive predictions, Kwetey’s remarks highlighted the NDC’s belief that the country is yearning for change.

“We wish for a peaceful election where the will of the people will prevail. The people are ready, and we trust they will make their voices heard,” Fifi Kwetey concluded.

Election 2024: Ghanaians are discerning; the mood is more charged than ever — Fifi Kwetey nonadult
We do not trust the Electoral Commission – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/we-do-not-trust-the-electoral-commission-fifi-kwetey/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 07:59:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478390 The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), alleging partiality and accusing it of creating distrust in its handling of electoral processes.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, December 2, he stated that the NDC will be closely monitoring the EC’s actions in the lead-up to the December 2024 general elections.

“The EC, unfortunately, has placed themselves in a situation where the whole world is watching with eagle eyes,” the Ketu South MP stated.

“Everybody is watching every move with eagle eyes. They should not have placed themselves in that situation, but that’s what they’ve done.”

The NDC General Secretary expressed the party’s lack of confidence in the EC, citing the body’s composition and its conduct during key electoral events.

“Naturally, we as a main opposition party do not trust them. Of course, we don’t trust them. Why should we?” he questioned.

Mr Kwetey argued that, the EC’s actions and decisions, particularly its handling of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and other processes, have demonstrated bias.

“As far as we are concerned, this EC, by its very composition and by what it is that we have seen over the period, will very much want to do everything possible to make the ruling NPP remain in power,” he alleged.

Although he admitted there is no direct evidence of electoral manipulation, Fifi Kwetey pointed to historical incidents and perceived favouritism as grounds for suspicion.

He also highlighted the NDC’s temporary withdrawal from IPAC in protest against what the party deemed an undemocratic environment.

“IPAC has historically been a place for consensus, but because of the intrusions of the EC, we were forced to pull out,” he explained.

Mr Kwetey also revisited a controversial moment when parties were drawing ballots to determine the positioning of presidential candidates on the election paper.

According to him, the EC failed to prevent the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from undermining the process.

“We told them that no political party should be allowed to take a look into the box where the ballot was. But the NPP flagrantly abused that process and the EC did nothing about it. That doesn’t show you’re strong enough to stand up to the ruling party,” he charged.

He warned that the NDC would remain vigilant during the 2024 elections, ensuring that every action by the EC is scrutinised.

“By the very historical conduct of the EC, from the previous election to some of the things happening in this election, we are clearly going into this with absolute eagle eyes,” he emphasised.

Despite the NDC’s concerns, Fifi Kwetey acknowledged the party’s decision to re-engage with IPAC as an opportunity to influence the process.

“Eventually, we’ve gone back [to IPAC] because we thought, you know what, let’s give ourselves another opportunity to see how things will be,” he said, while maintaining the party’s cautious stance.

Special Voting is not a guarantee for D-Day calm – NDC’s Fifi Kwetey warns http://34.58.148.58/special-voting-is-not-a-guarantee-for-d-day-calm-ndcs-fifi-kwetey-warns/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 00:11:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478316 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiafvi Kwetey, has cautioned against prematurely interpreting the smooth conduct of Ghana’s special voting as an indicator of how Election Day will unfold.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, December 2, he highlighted the contrasting dynamics between the controlled environment of special voting and the often volatile atmosphere of the general election.

“I would say, by and large, the reports we have monitored—and which have also been confirmed by our agents and executives in the various places where it happened—show that the exercise went on smoothly,” the Ketu South MP noted.

“It was devoid of violence or anything you would call a flagrant abuse of the process,” he added.

While praising the relative calm of the special voting exercise, Fifi Kwetey stated that it is historically not an accurate predictor of Election Day’s dynamics.

“Even in previous elections, the special voting never was an issue. I’m sure in 2016, the special voting, which was like a week earlier, was not an issue.

“But a week later, you saw what happened—eight people died on the day,” he said, recalling the incidents of violence that marred the general election that year.

Mr Kwetey suggested that the stakes on Election Day make the environment significantly different.

“On D-Day, it’s a lot more; people become much more desperate. They feel as if this is a do-or-die affair. That’s when things often become more difficult,” he explained.

Contrasting special voting with the general elections, Fifi Kwetey observed that the streamlined nature of the former reduces the potential for chaos.

“With special voting, it’s just one centre in each place of voting, so there’s a lot more ease. There’s not that desperation because people feel like the major voting itself is not yet here,” he remarked.

Despite his caution, Fifi Kwetey acknowledged the importance of the calm special voting process as a positive sign.

“It’s nice—it’s good so far. The reports show that things went well,” he admitted, before reiterating his warning: “But, as I said, previous elections showed the same for special voting, so I wouldn’t jump to too many conclusions.”

His comments underscore the high stakes and tense atmosphere that often accompanies Ghana’s general elections.

Volta is NDC’s heart – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/volta-is-ndcs-heart-fifi-kwetey/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 08:13:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477847 General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has described the Volta Region, specifically Ketu South, as the heart of the party, serving as its core base of support and loyalty.

He said the region and the constituency were where the NDC had its strongest roots, and the residents identified with the party’s values and ideologies, consistently providing strong support to the party, which was crucial to its electoral success.

Mr Kwetey who made these comments at Ketu South NDC’s final rally on Friday emphasised the region’s significance to the party’s history and development and appealed to the people of Ketu South and the region not to denounce their loyalty to the NDC.

“The last elections, Ketu South gave the NDC over 86,000 votes. This year, we want to cross 100,000 votes.

We won’t pretend that we have invested heavily in the region, providing infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities which have fostered this sense of love for the party. Late President Jerry John Rawlings, a native who founded the NDC might not have concentrated on the region because he wanted to develop Ghana.

Perhaps, he felt what he couldn’t do for Volta and Ketu South, his successors would do. It’s now our time. Let’s vote NDC to secure our future.”

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South described the current state of affairs in the country as worse than it was some decades ago which brought former President Rawlings onto the political scene with the June 4th uprising and said only the NDC could cause Ghana’s economy to rebound.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi, NDC National Communications officer, asked the electorate to take the December 7 general elections personally and ensure the victory of the NDC and its Flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.

“We don’t want to win for the sake of winning but for Ghana because Mr Mahama and the NDC are the only hope. Instead of the economy growing, the opposite is happening. Ghanaians are suffering… Times are hard.”

He called on Ketu South residents to be the real heroes delivering victory to the NDC by giving the party over 100,000 votes, telling them that only Mr Mahama and the NDC would protect them from tidal waves destruction, work on the Denu-Keta and Denu-Ho roads, construct astro turfs, a big market at Aflao, a port at Keta and bring tertiary institution to Ketu South.

Mr Mathias Alagbo, NDC Volta Regional Youth Organiser rallied the youth behind the NDC, saying the party dedicated a manifesto to the youth and that both students and apprentices alike stood the chance of benefiting immensely in the next NDC government.

Edudzi Tamakloe, Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, charged, “NDC is Ketu South, Ketu South is NDC. Ghanaians await your vote. You must vote the NDC to abolish E-levy, COVID levy and betting tax.”

Foga Nukunu, a tutor, said there was the need to vote NDC into power to review the Free SHS, saying the programme in its current form needed fine-tuning.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, MP for Ketu South, said the prices of goods in the market were telling and asked her constituents not to be deceived but to have confidence that the next Mahama administration would address their needs and so, must vote for the NDC.

Fifi Kwetey takes high-octane campaign to Volta Region http://34.58.148.58/fifi-kwetey-takes-high-octane-campaign-to-volta-region/ Fri, 29 Nov 2024 10:23:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477250 General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, is taking campaign activities to another level as he storms the Volta Region tomorrow.

Described as a high-octane movement, the National Coordinator of the John Mahama 2024 Campaign will be touching base with chiefs and people of the Volta Region, starting from the southern coastal belt, moving to the middle belt, and ending at Hohoe for a grand regional rally.

In a statement issued by the NDC Volta Regional Secretary, Hon. James Gunu, the Campaign Coordinator will start his day Friday morning at the studios of Radio Jubilee in Keta, where he will be sharing the good news contained in the 2024 Reset Manifesto to provide jobs and improve the economy.

“This campaign tour is a critical part of the NDC’s nationwide strategy to secure a resounding victory in order to reset and build the Ghana we all want together,” Mr. Gunu stated.

He disclosed that the General Secretary will meet with the Standing Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, a move aimed at fostering dialogue with traditional authorities and ensuring their support for the candidates of the NDC across the region.

Specifically, Mr. Fifi Kwetey will also be meeting the Paramount Chiefs of Klikor, Ave Xevi, Some, and Aflao Traditional Areas.

These meetings, according to Mr. Gunu, underscore the NDC’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders of society to build the Ghana we all want together.

As a former MP of Ketu South and an indigene of the area, Hon. Fifi Kwetey will address the Ketu South Constituency rally in Aflao. This area, considered to be a fortress of the NDC, is expected to draw unprecedented crowds, with both the youth and elderly showing up.

The climax will be at the Hohoe RC Park on Saturday, where Mr. Fifi Kwetey, in conjunction with NDC executives, will hold a regional rally, where he will again speak directly to the electorate. The NDC in the Volta Region has vowed to flip the Hohoe seat, which suffered serious encroachment by the NPP’s Peter Amewu in the last election.

Party stalwarts believe Mr. Fifi Kwetey’s homestretch political movement is a powerful moment to reaffirm the NDC’s vision for inclusive development and growth across the region.

This is our moment to stand on the side of true patriots – Fifi Kwetey rallies Ghanaians for Dec. 7 http://34.58.148.58/this-is-our-moment-to-stand-on-the-side-of-true-patriots-fifi-kwetey-rallies-ghanaians-for-dec-7/ Thu, 07 Nov 2024 14:53:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2469618 With just a month until Ghana’s pivotal December 7 elections, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has made an impassioned appeal to Ghanaians to vote with purpose and conviction.

In his article, the Ketu South MP stated the importance of this election, framing it as a critical moment in Ghana’s history—a chance to steer the country toward renewal and growth under the NDC’s leadership.

“This election stands as a pivotal moment in Ghana’s history,” Mr. Kwetey declared, adding that it is a time “to reclaim our beloved Ghana.”

He stressed that Ghanaians are facing a stark choice: “This is not merely about choosing between two parties… it is about choosing between two contrasting futures.”

According to Mr. Kwetey, one path would continue the “decline and mismanagement” under the current government, while the other promises a “new path toward growth, dignity, and prosperity for all.”

Ghana’s Youth: At the Heart of the Crisis

Mr. Kwetey voiced his concerns about the current state of the nation, particularly the plight of the youth, who he said are the “heartbeat of our future.”

He cited persistent unemployment, economic hardship, and shattered dreams as part of the grim reality facing young Ghanaians.

“The youth of Ghana have borne the brunt of this mess,” he lamented. But he assured, “We cannot, and we will not accept this as our fate.”

He attributed these challenges to what he described as “economic mismanagement, corruption, state plunder, abuse of power, and broken promises” by the ruling government, specifically criticizing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for what he termed a failure in economic leadership.

Why John Mahama? “A Leader You Can Trust”

Kwetey didn’t only criticize the current administration; he also offered an alternative vision under the NDC’s former president, John Dramani Mahama.

According to Mr. Kwetey, Mahama embodies “integrity, vision, and unwavering commitment to the people,” and has a proven track record that includes “infrastructure development, social inclusion, care for the less privileged, and economic growth.”

“In John Dramani Mahama, we have a leader who stands tall,” he said, noting that Mahama’s legacy speaks for itself.

Describing the former president’s character, Mr. Kwetey added, “He is not a man of empty words or fleeting promises; he has shown through action what true leadership entails.”

The NDC is committed to “building a Ghana that works for all,” he emphasized, pledging to create sustainable jobs, revitalize industries, and foster a supportive environment for economic growth.

A Call for Unity and Action

Mr. Kwetey’s call to action was directed not only to NDC supporters but also to all Ghanaians. He stressed the need for national unity and focus as the election approaches.

“To all NDC supporters, cadres, comrades, and sympathizers, I urge you to unite more than ever and work tirelessly,” he said.

He also urged voters to rally behind Mahama and NDC candidates by choosing the “Umbrella symbol” on the ballot come December 7.

In his closing words, Mr. Kwetey reminded citizens that this election is about Ghana’s soul: “Let us harbor no complacency. Let’s keep our focus on the goal and stay true to the cause, for ours is a noble mission.”

He encouraged every Ghanaian to exercise their civic duty with intention, saying, “This election is not one you can afford to ignore; this is our moment to stand on the side of true patriots, whose sole aim is to reclaim our destiny.”

In his regard, the former Ketu South Member of Parliament said the NDC 2024 manifesto may not be perfect but the party is poised to deliver a better future.

Speaking at the launch in Winneba on Saturday, Mr Kwetey said the manifesto will contain achievable promises that will be delivered, rather than being based on lies.

“The manifesto we’re going to present today will not be the perfect manifesto, but one thing we can promise you is the humility of the leadership, the humility of Mahama and the people who are going to work with him, so, if there are any problems, we will be able to correct them and be able to deliver for the future of the nation,” he said.

Mr. Kwetey asserted that the NDC will not be like the NPP who has failed to deliver on its promises and also failed to accept constructive criticism.

“Unfortunately, deal with people who even when they are blatantly wrong, are too proud, not humble enough to accept, they are too arrogant to move in that direction, refusing any feedback and constructive criticisms,” he added.

NPP has destroyed the sound economy NDC left – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/npp-has-destroyed-the-sound-economy-ndc-left-fifi-kwetey/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 14:29:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2438362 General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Fifi Kwetey, has criticised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the state of the economy.

According to him, the NPP inherited a strong and sound economy from the erstwhile NDC administration.

Unfortunately, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia left administration has completely destroyed the economy, citing two oil fields and a sound manufacturing sector, among others.

The former Ketu South MP and former Deputy Finance Minister made these remarks at the NDC manifesto launch in Winneba on Saturday.

In this regard, Mr Kwetey has entreated Ghanaians to vote for the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama on December 7, stating the NDC’s manifesto is anchored on sound principles and truth.

He emphasised the commitment of the next NDC administration to reset the economy and build the Ghana citizens want.

“When you say one village one dam and you know you do not have the capacity that is deception. Our policies are anchored on principles, the principle of respect for the people. We left behind a manufacturing sector that was wrong, two oil fields, a strong cocoa sector,” he stated.

Ghana’s youth losing hope after 8 years of economic collapse – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/ghanas-youth-losing-hope-after-8-years-of-economic-collapse-fifi-kwetey/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 16:20:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2432787 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has expressed concerns over the state of Ghana’s economy, asserting that it has deteriorated significantly over the past eight years.

He believes that, the aspirations of the youth have been shattered since the current government took office.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC Youth Manifesto on Monday, August 12, Mr. Kwetey observed that the plight of young people from the country has reached unprecedented levels in the last eight years.

“It’s sad that this country on the verge of 2009 when the NDC came into office, we had young people who were trooping back to this country… because they saw the hope of a country that was again looking towards building back.

“But unfortunately, over the last eight years, we have seen nothing short of the collapse of the economy of this country and the loss of hope and despair of our young people,” he said.

Mr. Kwetey also highlighted that the policies of the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama will introduce aim to rekindle hope.

However, he stressed that hope alone is not enough; it’s the commitment behind the policies that truly matters.

“Anyone can present policies. Over the last eight years, we’ve seen various policies rolled out. How many of you remember NABCO? What became of it?” Mr. Kwetey asked.

He continued, “It was nothing but a scam, a 419 policy created solely to secure votes. The difference between us and them is that we prioritize progress through policy before thinking about votes,” the NDC General Secretary added.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s Youth manifesto on Monday at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, August 12, Mr Kwetey suggested that NABCO was a scam proposed to win citizens’ votes rather than to create jobs and ensure genuine progress in the country.

He, however, noted that the policy to be unveiled by the NDC will give hope to Ghanaians.

“Over the last eight years, we have seen a number of policies that have been unveiled like NABCO. What has happened to it? Because it was nothing but a scam and a 419 policy. It was a policy designed for votes. The difference between us and them is that we think about policies first for progress before votes,” he stressed.

Mr Kwetey emphasized that while anyone can develop policies, the difference between the NDC and the governing party is that theirs will focus on policies that promote progress rather than just seeking power.

He claimed that the NDC’s upcoming policies would restore hope to Ghanaians, particularly the youth, whose hopes have been crushed due to the economic challenges of the past eight years.

“Today, the flagbearer of our party will take time to unveil the policies of this party whose heartbeat is after the destiny of the young people to elaborate plans which will set this country back towards giving hope and prosperity to our young people again.”

He explained that, they needed a place where they could feel energized and motivated to campaign and secure victory in the 2024 elections.

“We wanted to be in a place where our party’s stronghold is. When launching campaigns of this nature, you need to be in a place where you can feel energized. Tamale was the perfect choice,” he said.

Mr. Kwetey, who was personally involved in making this decision, added, “Tamale is like home to us. It represents an important starting point for a journey. I remember in 2008, when we needed to set the records straight, we started in Accra and then came to Tamale. The spirit of Tamale was crucial in setting the tone for the rest of the campaign across the country. That spirit is why we chose Tamale for this important program, which I believe will change the destiny of our country. The campaign is at the core of our country’s destiny. NDC quashes withdrawal and suspension of Assin Central Parliamentary candidate http://34.58.148.58/ndc-quashes-withdrawal-and-suspension-of-assin-central-parliamentary-candidate/ Wed, 03 Jul 2024 13:02:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2417128 The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has nullified the withdrawal and suspension of Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, the party’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Assin Central.

The decision, announced in a statement dated July 3, 2024, followed a meeting with a delegation from the Central Regional Executive, led by the Regional Chairman.

The release signed by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey emphasised that FEC determined the alleged withdrawal of the Assin Central PC to be unlawful after a thorough review of the facts.

“Additionally, it was established that the body that took this unlawful decision had no locus, power and/or authority to do so per the Constitution of the party. More importantly, the reasons underpinning the purported withdrawal of the Assin Central PC were found to be totally false and without any reasonable basis” he said.

The release noted that, the letter attempting to withdraw the Assin Central Parliamentary candidate is invalid and should be disregarded.

It added that, Comrade Nurein Shaibu Migyimah continues as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Assin Central in the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

Meanwhile, the FEC has imposed a one-month suspension on the Central Regional Chairman Richard Kofi Asiedu for engaging in conduct deemed anti-party under Article 48 of the NDC Constitution.

“His suspension is on account of his blatant refusal to adhere to the Constitution of the party and the express instructions of the leadership of the party. His situation was particularly aggravated due to the fact that he has committed similar infractions in the past and has been advised repeatedly against such behaviour.”

The Functional Executive Committee has additionally suspended the Assin Central Constituency Secretary of the party under Article 48 of the NDC Constitution and referred him to the National Disciplinary Committee.

According to the statement, these measures do not affect Comrade Nurein Shaibu Migyimah’s right to pursue legal recourse against those responsible for spreading falsehoods to damage his reputation.

The statement urged NDC members in Assin Central to unite in support of their Parliamentary Candidate, Comrade Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, alongside the central regional and local constituency executives, as they aim to secure victory for the NDC in the upcoming elections.

NDC won’t depend on court for victory – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/ndc-wont-depend-on-court-for-victory-fifi-kwetey/ Tue, 02 Jul 2024 01:47:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2416256 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has said the party will not depend on the courts to achieve victory in the 2024 general election.

He stated that the party would marshal all competencies of loyal members, with properly trained polling agents who would not yield to bribery or corruption in order to secure  victory.

Mr Kwetey, who was speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, emphasized the importance of accurate collation of results and ensuring that every level of the party did its job.

“You heard our flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, declare that this time around we are not going to leave our destiny in the hands of the law courts. So, it effectively means that we have to get to the field and ensure that before the final whistle, we have won and won convincingly,” he said.

Impartiality

The NDC General Secretary called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to assure Ghanaians of its neutrality and responsibility to conduct free and fair elections without bias towards any political party.

He emphasized that the EC’s job was to ensure a fair process, and not to help any party to win power.

“I will say a lot needs to be done on the part of the EC. It owes us a responsibility to assure the people of Ghana that its business is simply, to be a very neutral and impartial arbiter and allow the people of Ghana to make that decision.

“The EC should not feel it is its obligation to help anybody to win power. That is not their job. We are not asking for help on our part. We are saying that don’t help anybody, do your job, and let the decision of the people of Ghana stand,” Mr Kwetey said.

Mr Kwetey called on party members and the electorate to prioritize the interest of the country above personal issues, as the country approached the general elections.

He said the upcoming elections were not just about the NDC, but “a fight for the country’s soul and future”.

He urged Ghanaians to come together to oust the current regime, which he accused of economic mismanagement, insensitivity, deception, lawlessness, corruption and  selfishness.

The NDC General Secretary stressed the need for unity and loyalty, saying: “This is the moment to rise up and ensure utmost loyalty to the party and country.”

“We must put the higher interest of party and country above ourselves,” he added.

NDC FEC invites Central Regional Chairman over Assin Central PC’s suspension http://34.58.148.58/ndc-fec-invites-central-regional-chairman-over-assin-central-pcs-suspension/ Fri, 28 Jun 2024 16:21:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2415099 The National Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has summoned the Central Regional Chairman, Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu to appear before the Functional Executive Committee (FEC).

A statement issued by the General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey said the invitation is in connection with the suspension of the Assin Central Parliamentary candidate, Nurein Mygyimah.

“The above-mentioned action if true, was taken without the approval of the National Executive Committee and is considered inappropriate and in contravention of due process and the provisions of articles 40, 41, 46 and 48 of the NDC constitution,” the statement said.

The Chairman, Prof. Asiedu is expected to appear on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 2pm together with the Regional Secretary.

The duo will be expected to explain how the letter was sent out without the approval of the party national leadership.

The Central Regional Secretariat of the NDC on Friday announced Mr Migyimah’s suspension with barely six months to the December 7 election, citing immoral acts and anti-party activities.

However, Mr Migyimah’s lawyer has described the suspension as unlawful, illegitimate, utterly improper and has no legal basis.

Bawumia unfit to lead Ghana – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-unfit-to-lead-ghana-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 27 Jun 2024 08:53:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2414107 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is unfit to be elected President in the December 7 election.

According to him, the Vice President lacks credibility and cannot absolve himself from the mismanagement by the ruling government.

In this regard, he stated that the credibility of the presidential aspirants will be a deciding factor in the upcoming election.

“This election is not about ideas, it’s going to be about values, principles, and track record anchored on credibility. This election is not about talk, anyone can talk,… talk is cheap, any crook, or liar can come up with ideas.

“The real essence of leadership is the capacity to be able to have the principle to say things and mean them. To be able to say this is what we want to do and even if you don’t achieve it, people do know that you actually meant it, not to deliberately lie to them and you don’t even have what we call the humility to apologise when things go wrong,” he stated.

In an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, the former Deputy Finance Minister said the Akufo-Addo-led government has woefully failed Ghanaians and must apologised.

“So, it’s not just about having been there on that part of Mahama, but it’s simply, about the difference in character. It’s about nobility, it’s about honour. Mahama has it, whereas the flagbearer of NPP absolutely has none,” he noted.

Mr Kwetey said he is shocked Dr Bawumia is making promises with the assurance to implement when elected president when he has the opportunity to do so now.

“So, it that takes courage, it takes principle. We’re talking about the flagbearer of NPP, who actually is the head of the economic management team. Who has been at the heart of governance, who’s still promising what we call heaven, when he’s in power and capable of resolving the problem. Who’s promising that when he comes, he will resolve e-levy, you’re in power, resolve the e-levy. No, when I come, I’m going to resolve the e-levy.

“The taxes, when I come, I’m going to bring flat rate, oh really? You’re in power, you have the capacity to do it now, you’re in power you can do so many things. He’s still promising heaven when he has the capacity to be able to do it now and initiate,” he stated.

We have a leadership that thinks about itself and little about the people – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/we-have-a-leadership-that-thinks-about-itself-and-little-about-the-people-fifi-kwetey/ Tue, 18 Jun 2024 15:56:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2410161 The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says Ghana has reached a point where there is only insensitivity from the government in power.

This, according to him, is because corruption and greed have taken over the country.

“What we have in place now is simply leadership that thinks about itself and thinks very little about the people,” he said during the “Hands Off Our Hotels” demonstration on Tuesday, June 18.

Mr Kwetey emphasised the importance of the protest in ensuring that people rally against what is wrong, including the insensitivity, greediness, and selfishness of the government.

When asked if his party would maintain its current position should the NDC be voted into power, Mr Kwetey insisted that what is wrong must always be wrong.

According to him, the country must be in a state where patriots fight for what is right.

“It’s really a shame that the NPP would say all that they have said, get into power and do the very opposite. I can tell you within my own party, it is very loud and clear that we simply don’t want a situation where we’re comparing ourselves with the NPP. We need to rise up to do what is right for the country,” the NDC General Secretary said.

He stressed that the selfishness and greed exhibited by government officials must comes to an end.

“The country must be number one, and that is what we are fighting for. To reach that state where you can no longer hide under a political party to do what’s wrong, hoping your political party will protect you, is simply unacceptable,” Mr Kwetey said.

We can’t be complacent dealing with an NPP that is obsessed with power – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/we-cant-be-complacent-dealing-with-an-npp-that-is-obsessed-with-power-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 13 Jun 2024 07:32:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2408443 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, says the party will remain vigilant before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.

According to him, despite widespread dissatisfaction with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for shepherding the country into hardship, it will stop at nothing to retain power.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Mr Kwetey said for this reason, the NDC cannot be complacent and assume that the current economic meltdown and public dissatisfaction would automatically lead to electoral victory in the December polls.

“It’s normal in politics sometimes to see a level of frustration, anger, disappointment, the economic meltdown and the suffering that is going on and assume that somehow that is going to be enough for you to win an election.”

“But I can tell you that for many of us who wrestled to take NPP out of power the last time when they were in power, we know that you are never complacent, especially when you’re dealing with a desperate political party. This particular political party we are dealing with here is literally an entity that cares about nothing but power,” he noted.

Labelling the NPP as power-hungry, Mr Kwetey said the NPP despite waiting to lead the country failed at governing the people adding “[they have] no principles, no conditions, just do anything for power.”

He warned NDC members against underestimating the NPP’s desperation, citing their alleged willingness to employ any means necessary to retain power, including election malpractices.

“So if there’s any group that thinks that it’s going to be easy taking out these very desperate people, especially after they have spent eight years, eight years that they have profited, corrupted the system, made all kinds of money, totally destroyed the economy and they are afraid that they are going to be prosecuted.”

“The desperation is even more massive. So I’m actually surprised that anybody will be thinking that it’s a done deal when you know the level of desperation that we are facing with this political party,” the NDC General Secretary said.

He urged his party members to remain focused on ensuring the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections rather than being distracted by potential future gains.

“You need to make sure you keep your eye on the ball and forget about all the difficulties that the economy is going through, don’t assume that that alone is going to land you into victory. Remain focused and let’s make sure we cross the line,” Mr Kwetey said.

Bawumi, NPP copying our campaign strategy with People’s Manifesto – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/bawumi-npp-copying-our-campaign-strategy-with-peoples-manifesto-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 13 Jun 2024 06:25:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2408440 The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer is imitating their campaign strategy.

In an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Kwetey stated that although the NDC has not officially started its campaign for the upcoming December election, its opponents are already copying their approach.

He told host Evans Mensah that even without an official campaign launch, NDC flagbearer and former President John Mahama has been travelling across the country to meet various groups, chiefs, and opinion leaders.

“Mahama is doing proper listening to many different groups, and of course, it’s been avidly copied by the typical copycats trying to do exactly the same thing that Mahama actually inaugurated in the previous election in 2020,” Kwetey said.

The Ketu South MP mentioned that Dr Bawumia is “basically trying to copy meeting groups and asking questions…the same thing that we used to do when we launched our campaign ahead of the 2020 election, which we called the People’s Manifesto.”

Mr Kwetey explained that the NDC and its flagbearer have always listened to Ghanaians to gather their views, which ultimately shape the party’s manifesto and policies, a practice dating back to the time of the late President Atta Mills.

According to him, the governing NPP did not previously follow this approach.

“They used to focus largely on rallies and stuff like that, but now, it’s no more,” he observed, adding, “it’s normal for them to continue copying.”

Regarding the campaign strategy to win the upcoming election, Kwetey said, “We have not launched the full campaign yet. What we’ve done so far is pre-campaign.”

He expressed hope that the NDC will soon unveil its campaign management and the complete structure.

“We will launch the campaign and our manifesto, then we will be in full gear and ready to go. But John Mahama has been doing quite a bit of touring already. That’s why that’s really important,” he said.

He stated that the party is not behind schedule, emphasizing, “Everything has been properly planned. Once we start, we’ll go the full distance, so we are not behind on anything.”

Asiedu Nketia, Fifi Kwetey destroying NDC – Titus Glover http://34.58.148.58/asiedu-nketia-fifi-kwetey-destroying-ndc-titus-glover/ Mon, 10 Jun 2024 13:11:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2407108 The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover has criticised the posture of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Asiedu Nketia and General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey in the build-up to the 2024 election.

The former Tema East Member of Parliament (MP) accused the duo of destroying their party.

Mr Titus-Glover made these remarks on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Monday.

He stated that, the two NDC stalwarts are demonstrating desperation for power which does not augur well.

“Asiedu Nketia(Mosquito) and Fifi Kwetey are destroying the NDC. Politics is about ideas and different methodologies but the NDC have made up their mind to come into power at all cost and we can’t sit and watch them. We[NPP] need to protect our own with every legitimate means,” he stated.

The Minister was reacting to the controversy the arrest of the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor has generated.

Addressing the gathering, the NDC National Chairman bemoaned why the Police should say they are listening to orders from above to release Naa Koryoo.

According to him, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the Chairman of the Police Council and “so if the Chairman of the Police Council is in a contest with us in an election and the police decide to be on the side of their chairman, then this democracy is at risk”.

The Police has since refuted Mr Nketia’s claims.

Limited Voters Registration: Innocent people shouldn’t suffer – Fifi Kwetey on challenged applicants http://34.58.148.58/limited-voters-registration-innocent-people-shouldnt-suffer-fifi-kwetey-on-challenged-applicants/ Fri, 31 May 2024 05:21:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2402641 The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called for the application of the “innocent until proven guilty” principle in reviewing challenged cases in the just-ended voter registration exercise.

He said that just as was done in Ghana’s legal circles, where a suspect or an accused is deemed innocent until proven otherwise, persons who challenged the eligibility of applicants must be ready to prove why applicants must not be given their Voter ID cards to participate in the upcoming December polls.

Mr Kwetey made the call Wednesday when he briefly called on the District Registration Review Committee (DRCC) sitting on cases of challenged applicants in the Ketu South Municipality as part of his monitoring visit to some eight constituencies in the Volta Region.

The former Ketu South Member of Parliament said in cases where challengers involved in the cases could not show up on the appointed dates due to one reason or another, it should not affect the challenged applicants in any as that had the potential to deprive them of their right to vote.

“Innocent people should not be made to suffer for the inability of a challenger to be present on the day a challenged applicant is appearing before your committee because the challenger has the responsibility to provide reasons for questioning the eligibility of the affected applicant. I therefore appeal to you to be minded by the principle of innocent until proven guilty in your work.”

Torgbui Anubo IV, Chairman of the DRCC, allayed fears of making affected applicants suffer any injustice, saying during the six sittings the Committee had had, no such thing happened, assuring that when necessary, colleague party agents of such challengers were consulted to find ways to deal with the case without inconveniencing or disadvantaging the challenged applicants.

On the tour with Mr Fifi Fiafi Kwetey were executives of the Volta Regional NDC led by Mr Egypt Korbla Kudoto, the Regional Vice Chairman.

Mr James Gunu, the Regional Secretary in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the number of challenged applicants in the Ketu South Constituency was huge and it was important for the Committee to double its efforts to give opportunity to all affected applicants to disprove or otherwise, the allegations against them.

The nationwide exercise was initially scheduled from May 07 to 27 at the district office and some hard-to-reach areas in the municipality, but it had been extended for two additional days to make up for the technical glitches experienced across the country on the first and second days.

Ketu South registered a total of 5,273 applicants out of which some 1,602 applicants had their eligibility challenged.

So far, about 300 of all the applicants challenged in the constituency have had their cards  released to them while some 25 had theirs retained after seven sittings by the close of the day Wednesday.

Mr Kofi Sakyi Boampong, the District Electoral Commission Officer for Ketu South, told GNA that the Committee would continue to sit until the challenged cases were over assuring every challenged applicant would be given a fair chance.

Election 2024: NPP has no choice but to vacate Jubilee House, hand over power – NDC http://34.58.148.58/election-2024-npp-has-no-choice-but-to-vacate-jubilee-house-hand-over-power-ndc/ Fri, 17 May 2024 14:08:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2396372 The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says that any machinations of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to hold on to power will not prevail.

According to the party, as the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections approach, the country is faced with escalating concerns that strike at its democratic and electoral integrity.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Thursday, May 16, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, stated that the Electoral Commission (EC), which should embody impartiality and integrity, is grievously faltering in its essential duties.

He claimed that the actions and inactions of the EC, marked by “overt lawlessness and incompetence,” mirror the troubling patterns of the current Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.

“This administration, deeply entrenched in corruption, cronyism, and ineptitude, now audaciously suggests it will cling to power against the will of the people, threatening a peaceful transfer of power—a stark betrayal of our democratic principles,” he said.

Mr Kwetey asserted that the NDC will not take President Akufo-Addo’s unguarded remarks lightly and cautioned that the President is treading on treacherous ground, possibly encouraged by assurances that the EC will rig the 2024 elections in favor of the NPP.

“If the EC by any chance harbours such plans, then they better revise their notes. They better heed the words of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, spoken during her unveiling at the University of Professional Studies: ‘A word to the wise is in Assin North!’”

“As the General Secretary of the NDC, I assure all Ghanaians that NPP’s machinations will not prevail. They will have no choice but to vacate the Flagstaff House and hand over power smoothly to President John Mahama and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman in January 2025,” he stressed.

His comments were in response to President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that he will not pass on the presidency to his predecessor, John Dramani Mahama.

President Akufo-Addo clarified that he would not hand over power to the NDC flagbearer, whom he defeated and ousted from office in 2016.

He said he is committed to his party’s leadership succession plan, which involves Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his successor.

In light of this, the NDC General Secretary said that instead of President Akufo-Addo championing the country’s democratic ethos, he proclaims that he will not relinquish power to someone he once defeated.

“Indeed, power does corrupt. President Akufo-Addo, basking in the fleeting glory of the power he literally begged Ghanaians for, seems to have forgotten that he, too, was defeated in the 2008 and 2012 elections, yet power was graciously transferred to him in 2017. ‘Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.’ This revelation speaks volumes about his intentions and the potential peril to our nation’s stability.

“What the NPP, unfortunately, fails to understand is that the NDC stands prepared and vigilant, ready to ensure free and transparent elections, even at the risk of our own lives. We challenge President Akufo-Addo and the NPP to reconsider any underhanded manoeuvres. Let this serve as an unequivocal warning: we are fully equipped and resolute, prepared to respond with unwavering determination to defend the sanctity of our votes and the democratic future of Ghana,” he cautioned.

Mr Kwetey said it is the NPP’s choice to ensure a peaceful transfer of power to the NDC if they lose the elections or face the grave consequences of their actions.

Ghanaians can’t breathe; Jane Naana will support Mahama to bring relief – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/ghanaians-cant-breathe-jane-naana-will-support-mahama-to-bring-relief-fifi-kwetey/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 18:59:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2385542 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, is confident running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will support the flagbearer, John Mahama to succeed.

According to him, Ghana is in a difficult place at the moment because the level of pain and hardship unbearable.

However, the former Ketu South Member of Parliament is hopeful, the John and Jane ticket will bring relief to Ghanaians when elected on December 7, 2024.

Mr Kwetey made these remarks during the officially introduction of the former Education Minister at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday.

“The country is in a state of collapse, not in the physical form, the real collapse of our country is a moral collapse we have seen nearly 8 years. The state of this beautiful country is at an all-time low. The suffering Ghanaians are looking to breathe again.

“People of Ghana cannot breathe. The level of pain, the suffering, the hardship, the lies, the dishonesty, corruption is choking Ghana to the maximum level. We believe she’s in a position to support our flagbearer to bring relief and hope to Ghanaians,” he stated

Mr Kwetey added that, Prof Opoku-Agyemang will restore the dignity of the office of the president which he believes has sunk low.

“In the last 8-years, we have seen the office she’s going to assume brought to its lowest level.  The office has become an office that is simply an epitome of deception, lack of credibility, lack of trustworthiness, and corruption, taking this country to a level where governance has become a joke.

“In you, Naana Jane, we see an individual who is not just an integrity but an individual who will restore that office to a place it used to be. The office today has been degraded, we believe you will restore that office,” he said.

We demand complete overhaul of all EC security protocols – Fifi Kwetey http://34.58.148.58/we-demand-complete-overhaul-of-all-ec-security-protocols-fifi-kwetey/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:23:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2381405 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, is demanding a complete overhaul of all security protocols at the Electoral Commission (EC).

He says there is the crucial need to review and strengthen security protocols ahead of the 2024 elections for the well-being of the nation and the people of Ghana

Speaking at the latest Moment of Truth series of the party on Monday, April 15, he asserted that “Investigation must be conducted with oversight from credible independent international bodies. We further call for the comprehensive review and overhaul of all security protocols within the EC to ensure that such breaches cannot occur in the future.

“The integrity of the Electoral Commission and by extension the democratic integrity of Ghana must not be compromised.”

The breaches he referred to concern the alleged theft of Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) devices and laptops at the EC.

Mr Kwetey highlighted the significance of every piece of equipment in the EC’s inventory, stressing that each has the potential to significantly influence the electoral process.

He expressed concern over the theft of such devices, which he said could lead to insider threats or external breaches and thereby compromising sensitive systems.

The NDC scribe criticised assurances by EC officials, deeming them inadequate and indicative of a lack of understanding of electoral security complexities and requirements.

“The assurances do not suffice in the face of potential electoral tempering or fraud. We cannot and must not accept this. We stand before you today to declare that nothing less than the rigorous, transparent and secure electoral process is acceptable” he stressed.

Mr Kwetey underscored the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s democracy, the will of Ghanaians, and the future stability of the nation.

He reaffirmed the NDC’s unwavering commitment to preserving democracy in Ghana and called for decisive action to ensure the security of the electoral process to reflect the true will of the people.

Fifi Kwetey: Court shift system echoes Mahama’s 24-hour economy vision http://34.58.148.58/fifi-kwetey-court-shift-system-echoes-mahamas-24-hour-economy-vision/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 20:36:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2370268 In the discourse of Ghana’s economic management, it is imperative to recognize that the efficacy of our economic strategies is foundational to the nation’s ambitions across various domains, including societal progress, ethical governance, communal health, educational advancement, and cultural enrichment.

The robustness of our economy acts as the cornerstone for these multifaceted aspirations; any faltering in its management reverberates through all sectors of national life.

Regrettably, our adherence to traditional economic approaches has not borne the desired fruits, particularly under the current milieu marked by the NPP’s economic stewardship, which has culminated in an exacerbation of our economic adversities.

This era is characterized by ballooning national debt, escalating unemployment rates, depreciating currency value, and surging inflation. Such challenges are not merely cyclical anomalies but are symptomatic of deep-seated policy inadequacies and mismanagement, necessitating a profound and strategic economic realignment.

H.E. John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy isn’t just an alternative policy idea; it’s an assertive shift, a redesign of Ghana’s economic framework meant to infuse our market with the energy and efficiency it desperately needs.

The recent judicial announcement to adopt a 24-hour court shift system exemplifies the policy’s potential impact and feasibility. This shift, driven by the need to alleviate case backlogs, embodies the kind of proactive leadership and management decision-making central to the 24-hour economy’s ethos.

Such decisions, far from being spontaneous, require meticulous planning and execution, including bolstered security, expanded infrastructure, and increased judicial personnel, underscoring a comprehensive response to supply-side constraints.

Drawing parallels with Keynesian economic theory, which advocates for proactive measures during economic downturns, John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy aims to stimulate both supply and demand through strategic government intervention. A specialized secretariat will ensure cross-sectoral policy implementation, promoting legislative reforms and providing a suite of incentives to drive participation.

These incentives include tax exemptions, capital and financial support, specialized utility tariffs, enhanced security measures, and the creation of an enabling working environment among others. Collectively, these measures are designed to integrate Ghana’s economic activity with the global market’s continuous rhythm, positioning the nation for dynamic growth and sustainable development.

The voluntary nature of this policy, applicable across public and private sectors, aims to unleash Ghana’s full productivity potential, fostering rapid industrialization, growth, export expansion, foreign exchange accumulation, and youth employment resolution.

The Chief Justice’s initiative serves as a testament to the policy’s viability, establishing a precedent for its broader application across key economic sectors. As Ghanaians, we find ourselves on the brink of a significant transformation, ready to transition from economic stagnation to dynamic growth.

Given Ghana’s current circumstances, the visionary 24-hour economy policy proposed by H.E President John Mahama is undoubtedly the path forward.

Support Mahama in 2024 elections – Fifi Kwetey urges Northern region voters http://34.58.148.58/support-mahama-in-2024-elections-fifi-kwetey-urges-northern-region-voters/ Wed, 07 Feb 2024 05:32:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2352543 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has urged the people of the Northern region to support former President John Mahama by voting for him in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Mr. Kwetey encouraged voters to make informed decisions during the elections, emphasising the importance of prioritising candidates who genuinely care about their welfare, regardless of their location.

The General Secretary made these remarks in Tamale during the second day of former President and flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama’s ‘Building Ghana Tour’ of the Northern Region.

He also urged party members to take pride in their affiliation with the NDC.

“Northern region, you have produced a person that we can be proud of, a genuine son of the region, a genuine son of Ghana. He tells the truth. When he speaks, don’t you trust him? Yes, you can trust him. He told Ghana that even though dumsor was not caused by him, he would fix it. And what did he do? He fixed it.

“So you can commit your business to his hands because he is a man who can be trusted. You can commit your farms to his hands; he is a man that can be trusted. You can commit Ghana, the resources of Ghana, and the destiny of 30 million plus Ghanaians into his hands because he can be trusted,” he said.

Mr Kwetey said, however, “The same cannot be said of the other son that came from your region. That other son that comes from the north-eastern part of this region of yours cannot be trusted.

“So you have produced two sons; one can be trusted, and the other, you cannot even give your small business into his hands. Comrades, you owe it to Ghana to ensure that the son who can be trusted rises again to the leadership of this country.”
