The latest to leave the club is midfielder Daniel Adrian Adjetey, whose exit was confirmed on Friday, June 20. Adjetey joined the Porcupine Warriors on a one-and-a-half-year deal during the second half of the just-ended season.

His departure follows Thursday’s announcement of the exits of goalkeeper Frederick Asare and midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena. Asare leaves after the expiration of his contract, while Dwamena also departs following the conclusion of his deal.

Also exiting is Nigerian midfielder Fernando Wisdom Bassey. Signed before the start of the season with high expectations, Bassey struggled to make a significant impact, managing just one goal during his time with the club.

Defender Sampson Eduku has also parted ways with Kotoko. He signed a one-and-a-half-year contract ahead of the second round of the season but has now left the team.

A statement from the club read:
“We can confirm the departure of Fernando Wisdom Bassey, Sampson Eduku and Daniel Adrian Adjetey from the club by mutual termination.
We wish them the best for the future.”

These changes form part of Kotoko’s strategic preparations for continental competition after clinching the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup title.

The 22-year-old joins the Porcupine Warriors on a free transfer and has committed to a three-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2027.

This signing is expected to strengthen Asante Kotoko’s squad for the upcoming season.

Bassey, who will wear the number seven jersey previously worn by Bernard Somuah, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team.

Throughout his career in the Nigerian Professional Football League, he has made 76 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists during his time with Akwa United and Sporting.

Notably, Bassey played a key role in Akwa United’s triumph in the 2020-21 Nigeria Premier Football League season, contributing significantly to their title win.

Bassey is the fifth international player to join Asante Kotoko during this transfer window, following the acquisitions of Sudanese players Esmat Abdulhamid and AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub, Congolese defender Samba O’Neil, and Guinean goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.

Asante Kotoko is set to begin their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign with an away match against Karela United.
