The Brazilian international joined the Porcupine Warriors prior to the start of the 2021/22 football season.

With Gama, the two-time African champions ended second behind Hearts of Oak, who won the league in the 2020/21 season but came back spectacularly to break an eight-year trophy drought in the Ghana Premier League.

The 30-year-old in the second year contributed massively under Prosper Narteh Ogum as the side emerged as the champions.

After recording that success with Kotoko, Gama left due to the expiration of his contract and has recently expressed delight in his time at the club

“We failed during my first season because we were not able to win the trophy and finished second on the league table,” he told Ghanasportspage.

“But we were the champions in the second season so for me I achieved my goal at Kotoko because the club had gone far before winning the Ghana Premier League so I believe that I put my name in the history books of the club forever after winning the trophy.

“As a member of the 2021/22 Premier champions, the fans will remember the name. I believe that and it is very incredible for me,” he added.

Gama after leaving Kotoko in July 2022 joined Bahrain out Al-Muharraq on a year deal.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko ended the 2022/23 Ghana football season trophyless.

Fabio Gama in his two-year stay with Asante Kotoko scored five goals in 48 appearances.

Following an impressive debut season in which he scored four goals in 28 Ghana Premier League games, the attacking midfielder made 20 appearances in the 2021/22 season.

Injuries plagued him early in the season, limiting his playing time under Prosper Ogum Narteh.

Gama joined the club on two years deal before the start of the 2020/21 Ghana football season.

Muharraq, a club founded 94 years ago, has won the Bahrani league 34 times and other domestic titles.

He plays Lionel Messi – Ex-Kotoko striker likens Gama to Barcelona star http://34.58.148.58/he-plays-lionel-messi-ex-kotoko-striker-likens-gama-to-barcelona-star/ Tue, 08 Jun 2021 22:09:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1970921 Former Asante Kotoko striker, Eric Bekoe, has likened playmaker Fabio Gama to Barcelona and Argentine star, Lionel Messi.

The Brazilian, who joined the Ghana Premier League giants prior to the start of the 2020/21 campaign, has been a live wire for the club.

Bekoe, who won the Premier League with the Porcupine Warriors, believes the 28-year-old is a great passer and controller of the ball, which makes his play similar to that of Lionel Messi

“Fabio Gama is like the Lionel Messi type,” he told 3sports.

“When every ball reaches the attacking third, you will need to find him because he is a good passer of the ball, a good controller of the ball, and he has all the components.

Bekoe added that not all players are judged based on their size but instead what they do with the ball.

“Let’s forget about his size, you know you cannot judge the book by the cover, when you open the book, you know the chapters that are in it, so we should encourage him to work more and then give us the results,” he added.

Gama has been directly involved in eight goals for Kotoko, scoring three.

He will hope to continue his fine form against Inter Allies in the matchday 29 games.

2020/21 GHPL: Fabio Gama scores first Kotoko goal in draw with Wonders http://34.58.148.58/2020-21-ghpl-fabio-gama-scores-first-kotoko-goal-in-draw-with-wonders/ Sat, 03 Apr 2021 21:59:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1943502 Brazilian attacker, Fabio Gama dos Santos, scored his first goal for Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League meeting with Eleven Wonders but Samuel Boakye’s effort ensured a 1-1 draw in Techiman on Saturday.

The sides, thus, picked a point each from the matchday 18 fixture at the Ohene Ameyaw Park.

The Porcupine Warriors have moved to third on the league standings, one place above archrivals Hearts of Oak, while Wonders sit 13th on the log.

The new Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto was unable to lead the team from the bench due to a delay in the processing of his work permit.

The Porcupine Warriors’ first XI included centre-back Ismail Abdul Ganiyu who played for Ghana in their recent 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.

Brazilian playmaker Gama also registered a starting berth but there was no place in the matchday squad for compatriot Michael Vinicius who recently sealed a move to the Kumasi-based side.

Wonders interestingly had two former Kotoko players in their line-up, while one other made the bench.

Erstwhile Porcupines captain Amos Frimpong and midfielder Ollenu Ashitey were handed starting roles by coach Ignatius Osei Fosu, while striker Alex Asamoah took a place among the substitutes.

It took only six minutes for the match to find its first goal as Gama beat his marker to put the ball in the back of the net and made it 1-0 for Kotoko.

In the 15th minute, Guinean striker Naby Laye Keita attempted to double the visitors’ lead but his free-kick from outside the box failed to trouble goalkeeper John Moosie.

That was shortly followed by a counter-break which saw Augustine Okrah’s left-bottom shot denied by the shot-stopper.

Ganiyu was on hand to clear the danger after Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora came off his line only to miss an attempt to punch away an air ball from the head of an opponent. Wonders broke the Porcupine Warriors’ defence four minutes later as Boakye finds space to direct a header into the net.

Just after half-time, Boakye went searching for a second goal but his shot from outside the box was saved by Abalora. At the opposite end, Okrah shot over the bar after outwitting his marker.

Wonders’ Tetteh Nortey drove a shot over in the 79th minute and ultimately after two minutes of injury time, the referee whistled to bring the match to an end.
