Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Thursday, September 11, the former Subin MP said many loyalists felt alienated from the party’s leadership.

“I think we lost because too many of our own people felt that we had drifted away from them,” he noted. “When your base is crying for jobs and clamouring for humility, sometimes it appeared that we weren’t listening. That created a whole lot of problems for the government as well as the party.”

He added that while supporters expected quick solutions once the NPP was in government, the realities of governance were different.

“Because when a party is in government, the expectation is such that you think that by a stroke of a pen, or a mere phone call, things should happen. But knowingly, things don’t happen like that,” he explained.

Mahama is fumbling – NPP General Secretary aspirant http://34.58.148.58/mahama-is-fumbling-npp-general-secretary-aspirant/ Thu, 11 Sep 2025 11:51:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2577303 General Secretary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Eugene Boakye Antwi, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of lacking clarity and decisiveness in his leadership.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr. Antwi argued that the President’s recent media encounter exposed significant shortcomings.

“We saw clearly from the President’s encounter with the media yesterday that he is fumbling. He is really fumbling. He wasn’t straightforward,” he asserted.

He further questioned President Mahama’s handling of national security issues, citing challenges even within his own political stronghold.

“Look at the insecurity in his own backyard,” Mr. Antwi remarked, insisting that the President had failed to provide convincing answers on pressing matters.

According to the former Subin MP, such inconsistencies not only undermine confidence in the presidency but also weaken the government’s ability to address the economic and social challenges confronting Ghanaians.

I disagree with NPP executives over GH¢4.6 million development fees – Eugene Boakye Antwi http://34.58.148.58/i-disagree-with-npp-executives-over-gh%c2%a24-6-million-development-fees-eugene-boakye-antwi/ Tue, 09 Sep 2025 13:09:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2576562 Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has expressed strong disapproval over the GH¢4.6 million development fee being charged by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from its presidential aspirants.

According to him, the fee is exorbitant and undermines the authority of party executives once a candidate becomes president, as the financial burden leaves little room to question appointments and decisions made by the leader.

The NPP recently opened nominations for its presidential aspirants, charging GH¢100,000 for nomination forms, GH¢500,000 as filing fee, and an additional GH¢4.6 million as development fee.

Speaking on Burning Issues, Mr. Boakye Antwi said:
“I disagree with the party for taking that amount from aspirants as development fees, because if someone is spending so much and he becomes president, what power do you have to question his appointment and some decisions he makes?”

He proposed that political parties should instead explore alternative funding models, such as securing loans from banks to run their activities and repaying them once in power, or raising revenue by buying shares and expanding their membership base.

The former Subin legislator further highlighted the heavy financial demands already placed on MPs, noting that they spend a minimum of GH¢500,000 annually in their constituencies, including supporting constituents with expenses such as the purchase of coffins.

He added that all five aspirants who have so far picked forms to contest in the presidential race are expected to spend not less than GH¢10 million on their campaigns, in addition to the GH¢4.6 million development fee, form and filing fees—placing an unsustainable financial burden on candidates.

Speaking on The Big Agenda on Adom TV, the aspiring General Secretary said he partly agrees with the decision of the party’s executives not to release the report in full but insists some portions must be made public.

Following the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections, the party set up a committee chaired by Professor Oquaye to investigate the causes of the defeat.

However, the report has since not been released.

“I agree with the decision not to publish the report but I do not agree with it entirely because people have accused former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of causing our defeat, but the role of the party in the 2024 election is not known,” Boakye Antwi said.

He argued that while many supporters accept the perception that Nana Akufo-Addo contributed to the loss, the responsibilities of the party executives and individuals tasked with specific duties during the elections remain unclear.

“For the report, if they spoke with Kufour and Nana Addo, of course you don’t expect them to publish what they said. But there were others who worked for the party, these people were spoken to, and we the supporters need to know what they said so we are aware of what the people we entrusted the party with did,” he stressed.

Boakye Antwi maintains that publishing aspects of the report that detail the role of party officials will help clarify whether their actions contributed to the party’s defeat.

You’re a ‘small boy’ in NPP; tone down your utterances – Former MP slams Nana B http://34.58.148.58/youre-a-small-boy-in-npp-tone-down-your-utterances-former-mp-slams-nana-b/ Thu, 26 Jun 2025 12:32:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2548653 Former Subin Member of Parliament (MP), Eugene Boakye Antwi, has taken a swipe at New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, urging him to be more measured in his public utterances.

In a strongly worded response during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Antwi described Nana B as a “small boy” in the party whose comments often lack the maturity expected of someone in his position.

“Excuse me to say, he is a small boy in the party. Being a National Organiser doesn’t make you a senior member. He is my young brother, and I will urge him to be measured in his utterances. His tone and language must reflect his position,” he said.

Mr. Antwi warned that speaking out of emotion could backfire.
“When he talks out of emotion, we will also use emotions to vote. As a National Organiser, the masses must gravitate towards you, so you must be patient in dealing with the people. In rebuilding, we must be open to suggestions. If the ideas don’t help, we discard them—not insult people,” he cautioned.

His comments follow Nana B’s response to NPP stalwart Dr. Arthur Kennedy, who recently questioned the timing of the party’s presidential primaries. Dr. Kennedy argued that choosing a flagbearer at this point—after the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections—was premature and could be disastrous. He likened the party’s rebuilding process to constructing a building that requires a solid foundation.

However, Nana B dismissed the analogy, insisting the NPP’s structures are already in place and ready to support the party’s future.

But Mr. Antwi believes Nana B’s reaction was unhelpful and divisive.
“We need sober reflection, not bravado. Rebuilding after a loss takes more than structures—it requires humility, unity, and open-mindedness,” he said.

No single faction can win 2028 Election for NPP; we must unite – Former MP warns [Audio] http://34.58.148.58/no-single-faction-can-win-2028-election-for-npp-we-must-unite-former-mp-warns-audio/ Thu, 26 Jun 2025 12:03:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2548632 Former Subin Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot reclaim power in the 2028 general elections if it relies on the efforts of individual factions instead of promoting unity.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing stressed the need for collaboration among all party stakeholders, cautioning that internal divisions could derail the party’s chances.

“Former President Kufuor said it all—when you are given power temporarily, it doesn’t mean you own the party. I believe in a tradition, not a faction, because a camp or faction cannot win power,” he stated.

He added, “None of the presidential aspirants’ camps, including Bawumia, Ken, Joe Ghartey, Adutwum, Bryan Acheampong—none of them can single-handedly secure power for us unless we unite.”

Mr. Antwi described the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections as a necessary wake-up call and urged the party to prioritise internal healing and reform.

“We must fix ourselves first. We need to reconnect with the people and rebuild the trust of Ghanaians,” he said.

He further called for a return to the party’s foundational principles.

“We must realign our party with the values of the founding fathers. We must revisit the traditions and ideologies on which the party was built,” he urged.

Subin MP reveals cause of NPP’s defeat in 2024 election http://34.58.148.58/subin-mp-reveals-cause-of-npps-defeat-in-2024-election/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 08:38:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481327 Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin in the Ashanti region, Eugene Boakye Antwi has stated the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) lost the 2024 election in the last quarter of 2022.

This according to him was the time the call for the dismissal of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta over the mismanagement of the economy heightened.

The MP raised these concerns in a post on Facebook, emphasising Ghanaians punished the NPP government for turning a deaf ear to their plight.

He emphasized that, keeping Mr Ofori-Atta in office until February 2024 demonstrated the NPP’s disregard for its constituents.

Mr Antwi also highlighted the alarming voter apathy, citing that almost a third of registered voters six million were absent.

Meanwhile, Mr Antwi is not returning to Parliament after losing the NPP primaries on January 27, 2024.

He lost the election to first-timer, Kofi Obiri Yeboah.

Mr Antwi was one of some 98 NPP MPs who fiercely criticised and demanded the immediate removal of Mr Ofori-Atta.

Galamsey: We all can’t suffer for the sins of a few – NPP MP to Akufo-Addo http://34.58.148.58/galamsey-we-all-cant-suffer-for-the-sins-of-a-few-npp-mp-to-akufo-addo/ Fri, 04 Oct 2024 12:44:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2456765 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has called on President Akufo-Addo to take decisive action against government officials who have failed to effectively combat the galamsey menace.

His appeal comes amidst growing frustration over the government’s inability to curb illegal mining activities that have wreaked havoc on the environment and local communities.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Thursday, October 3, Mr Antwi stressed the detrimental impact of galamsey on the nation’s water bodies, forests, and agricultural lands.

He insisted that the continued degradation of the environment poses a significant threat to the livelihoods of many Ghanaians, particularly those in rural areas dependent on these resources for their survival.

The lawmaker’s remarks resonate with the concerns of many citizens who are increasingly disillusioned with the government’s efforts to address the issue.

Mr Antwi specifically pointed out that certain government officials have not only failed to implement existing policies effectively but have also allowed illegal mining operations to flourish under their watch.

He believes that accountability is crucial and that officials who are not performing their duties should be held responsible for their inaction.

The MP urged the President to consider their dismissal as a necessary step toward restoring public trust and demonstrating a genuine commitment to tackling the galamsey crisis.

“If we know the people doing the illegal mining, if they are party people or political opponents, let’s walk in there and get them arrested and make them face the law. This party will be better served in government than in opposition because of the corrupt or illegal position of certain employees.”

“We are not going to condone it. I am an NPP person and I am not going to sit here and condone an illegality. Something that I have not been part of, why should I come and support or defend it,” he insisted.

The Subin MP’s view contradicts that of other NPP MPs who believe that any attempt to deal with galamsey at this time will cause the party to lose votes in the impending general elections.

#KenMustGo: You told Ghanaians we’ve the men; deploy them – NPP MP to Akufo-Addo http://34.58.148.58/kenmustgo-you-told-ghanaians-weve-the-men-deploy-them-npp-mp-to-akufo-addo/ Wed, 26 Oct 2022 12:20:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2176122 Subin Member of Parliament (MP), Eugene Boakye Antwi, has challenged President Nana Akufo-Addo to be a man of his word and sack Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta from office.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the former Deputy Works and Housing Minister reminded President Akufo-Addo he touted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has the qualified men and women to lead Ghana.

He, therefore, cannot fathom why President Akufo-Addo has not sacked Mr Ofori-Atta despite the numerous calls and pressure.

“We told Ghanaians that we have the men and must demonstrate that. We must change Ken Ofori-Atta now. Why are we acting as if there are no men in NPP? We would stand for the right things to be done. What is it about Ken Ofori-Atta that he cannot be sacked?” he quizzed.

The President’s cousin has come under intense pressure for him to resign from office or be sacked with the argument that his performance as Finance Minister since he was appointed to office has been nothing to write home about.

President Akufo-Addo believes the calls are not justified because to him, Mr Ofori-Atta has delivered excellently even in the face of the covid-19 pandemic.

But some NPP MPs on Tuesday joined the clarion call for the Minister to be sacked from office as a matter of urgency.

However, reports indicate President Akufo-Addo has met with these disgruntled MPs and has appealed to them to give Mr Ofori-Atta three weeks and allow him to complete the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

Mark 4:38-39 is NPP MP’s message to Ofori-Atta over calls for his dismissal http://34.58.148.58/mark-438-39-is-npp-mps-message-to-ofori-atta-over-calls-for-his-dismissal/ Tue, 25 Oct 2022 21:15:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2175863 Subin Member of Parliament (MP), Eugene Antwi, has gone biblical as he joins calls for Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to be sacked.

The former Deputy Works and Housing Minister has quoted Mark 4:38-39, saying he could only resort to scripture and pray that Mr Ofori-Atta heeds the calls to be sacked or resign honourably.

The verse quoted by Mr Antwi reads: Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’ And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Hush, be still.’ And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.

Several Ghanaians, including opposition parties, have mounted pressure on President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Mr Ofori-Atta from office.

Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentarians on Tuesday joined the clarion call on the country’s current economic hardship which has compelled government to seek support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

But the President has stated the calls are unjustified as Mr Ofori-Atta has discharged his duties diligently and has no reason to sack him.

However, Mr Antwi on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen reminded Mr Ofori-Atta about his pronouncement that Ghana will not return to IMF.

This alone he believes casts the country in a bad light especially when the person who vowed Ghana will not return to the monetary body is now leading negotiations.

“My principle is that I don’t speak ill of fellow party members. I don’t want to stretch Ken Ofori-Atta’s issues. We are not against Akufo-Addo nor Ken Ofori-Atta. We’re fighting to save Ghana and the NPP,” he said.

In this regard, he has stated Mr Ofori-Atta must be sacked for someone else to take over as Ghana is heading in the wrong direction.

“The masses have spoken and Ofori-Atta must go for peace and calm to prevail,” he added.
