Alagidede made this revelation following the fatal helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of Dr. Omane Boamah and seven others.

Speaking on Sporty FM, he described the former minister as a dedicated leader with a deep passion for football and a committed supporter of Asante Kotoko.

“He had that leadership quality you always look for and admire. He was hands-on and never just sat behind a desk like many of his colleagues,” Alagidede said.

“I didn’t know him personally very well, but I learned a lot from his example. He was not your typical African leader,” he added.

Highlighting Dr. Omane Boamah’s humanitarian side, Alagidede revealed, “Many people don’t know this, but he was part of the medical team that helped rescue victims during the May 9 Stadium disaster. That showed his commitment to serving people beyond his ministerial duties.”

The May 9 disaster remains one of Ghana’s darkest sporting tragedies, with 126 football fans losing their lives during a league match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in 2001.

The August 6 helicopter crash also claimed the lives of Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, former Central Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel — Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Despite suffering relegation to the Division One League at the end of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, Alagidede remains upbeat about the club’s resurgence, insisting that the ‘Dade Boys’ are primed for a strong comeback.

“So far, I’m enjoying my time, and it’s been good so far, and I’m very happy about the progress made,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“There is hope because the pre-season looks good, and we will soon bounce back because, as the third force in Ghana football, we need to be back in the Ghana Premier League.

Backing his claim, Alagidede pointed to the club’s honours:  “We are the only club after Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to have won two Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies, so if I say we are the third force, I’m only speaking facts and not making a claim.”

Great Olympics are scheduled to take on rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2025 Democracy Cup on Friday, August 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium, an opportunity Alagidede believes will set the tone for the season ahead.

“We are preparing very well and will make our first statement in the upcoming Democracy Cup,” Alagidede added.

The two-time league champions will be counting on their experienced leadership and renewed focus as they aim to secure a return to the Ghanaian topflight next season.

Alagidede, one of Ghana’s rising football administrators, officially assumed the role on Friday, July 11, 2025. He takes over from seasoned executive Oloboi Commodore, marking a significant shift in the club’s leadership structure.

Known for his dynamic and forward-thinking approach, Alagidede has earned widespread recognition for his transformative work at Nsoatreman FC. His tenure there saw the club achieve historic success, including winning the MTN FA Cup and making their debut appearance in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.

The former Director of Communications at Karela United now steps into a pivotal role at Great Olympics, tasked with leading both operational and strategic reforms. His blend of experience, modern football administration expertise, and a results-oriented mindset is expected to drive the club’s long-term ambitions.

Great Olympics—two-time champions of the Ghana Premier League—are eyeing a swift return to the top flight after being relegated two seasons ago alongside Bofoakwa Tano and Real Tamale United. The club’s 9th-place finish in last season’s Division One League, where they accumulated 41 points, highlighted the need for renewed direction and energy at the administrative level.

Alagidede’s mandate includes implementing a sustainable management model, improving operational efficiency, and restoring the Wonder Club’s stature as a competitive and financially stable force in Ghanaian football.

His arrival signals optimism for supporters and stakeholders alike, who hope his proven track record and fresh leadership will inspire Great Olympics’ return to the Premier League next season.

Ghana bowed out of the tournament in heartbreaking fashion on Monday, losing 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in extra time.

Alagidede pointed fingers at head coach Desmond Ofei, whose squad featured 14 foreign-based players.

In the wake of the team’s failure to qualify for the U-20 World Cup, he questioned the coach’s selection strategy.

“You [Desmond] are the head coach and preferred foreign-based players, and you were allowed to get them, so when you don’t qualify, you obviously have to take the blame,” Eric told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“Ghana has never had a squad dominated by foreign-based players for an Afcon competition. So, if you send 14 foreign-based players, what are you telling us?” he quizzed.

Ghana’s elimination means the nation’s wait for a return to the U-20 World Cup continues, with their last appearance coming in 2015.

Baffour Awuah, the former Employment and Labour Minister, is currently under legal scrutiny after appearing in court with two others over the violent incidents that led to the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, known as Pooley.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Alagidede defended Baffour Awuah, describing him as a dedicated football fan and a long-time supporter of Asante Kotoko.

He expressed confidence that Baffour Awuah would never encourage harm towards the club.

“The Ignatius Baffour Awuah I know is passionate about football. He always wants to win, but I don’t think he can even hurt a fly or incite violence,” Alagidede stated. “He is a known Kotoko fan and used to contribute to the club to help buy players. He is the last person who would want to harm Kotoko,” he added.

Baffour Awuah was granted bail on Tuesday, though he remains under travel restrictions.

In response to the violent incidents, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the match venue and charged Nsoatreman FC for their role in the disturbances.

Additionally, the GFA has suspended the Matchday 20 fixtures of the Ghana Premier League.

Alagidede, a young and promising football administrator, officially resigned on Monday, December 16.

His sudden departure has sparked speculation, particularly after the club’s owner, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, lost his parliamentary seat in the recently concluded 2024 general elections.

Addressing the issue on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Alagidede emphasized that his resignation was based purely on personal reasons.

“I did not resign based on political reasons. I’m a principled person and I always uphold my principles. I took a personal decision to leave this club some few months back,” he said.

“I decided to stay on because some people asked me to stay but I think that the time has come for me to move on. I think the applause is still loud and it is my personal decision to leave. It is time for someone to continue the good work I did,” he added.

During his tenure at Nsoatreman FC, Alagidede played a key role in the club’s success, leading them to an FA Cup triumph after defeating regional rivals Bofoakwa Tano.

Alagidede joined Nsoatreman midway through last season and played a pivotal role in securing the club’s first-ever FA Cup title, defeating regional rivals Bofoakwa Tano.

However, the team faced early elimination in their debut CAF Confederation Cup campaign, falling at the preliminary stage.

In the current 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, Nsoatreman FC is positioned 11th on the league table with 14 points from 13 matches.

Reports suggest that, Alagidede’s resignation may be due to the club’s recent struggles, with the young administrator believing that fresh leadership could help improve the team’s fortunes.

The club is yet to comment on his departure.

Before his time at Nsoatreman, Alagidede served as the Communication Director for Karela United and as the CEO of lower-division club Koforidua Suhyen SC.

The defending FA Cup champions will face the Phobians at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, with kickoff set for 19:00 GMT.

Although Nsoatreman FC has struggled in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, Alagidede remains optimistic about their chances against Hearts of Oak, who are on a strong run with three consecutive wins.

“We are here to win against Hearts of Oak. I admit they are in good form, but there’s no way we’ll lose on Saturday. They should focus on beating Asante Kotoko in their next game,” Alagidede told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

He assured fans of a competitive performance, promising that Nsoatreman would leave Accra with all three points.

Acknowledging his team’s history, Alagidede admitted that Nsoatreman has never defeated Hearts of Oak but is determined to change that.

“Yes, we’ve never won against Hearts of Oak, but that record will be broken tomorrow. They are playing well, but we will beat them,” he declared.

The much-anticipated fixture is expected to draw significant attention as Nsoatreman FC seeks to overturn the odds and make a statement against one of Ghana’s football giants.

Nsoatreman started their campaign on a promising note, securing a victory against Chadian side Elect Sport in the preliminary round.

However, they encountered a more formidable opponent in the second round, facing Algerian club CS Constantine, where they were defeated 3-0 on aggregate over two legs.

“Group stage qualification was our target,” Alagidede told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show following their elimination.

“We were punching above our weight but I am convinced that if we should have played against West African teams, we would have qualified.

“I am disappointed because of the financial burden and not getting any financial gains from playing in the preliminary games but I am also proud of my technical team and the players. I know when we get the opportunity, we will achieve our target,” he added.

Nsoatreman FC will shift its focus to the Ghana Premier League as they aim to defend their FA Cup title.

His appeal is after his side suffered an elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup followng a 3-0 aggregate defeat against CS Constantine in their first-ever appearance in the tournament.

Nsoatreman suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg and a 1-0 loss in the second leg.

Speaking to Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show after their exit, Alagidede emphasized the need for government’s support in football development to enhance the country’s performance on the continental stage.

“Government must have an interest in developing our game. CS Constantine flew straight to the country but when we were going there, we had to fly to Istanbul, Algers and then to Constantine.

“For the North Africans, the country is deeply involved because when the team qualifies, they see it as the country that has qualified so it is about time that government must invest in our game.”

Alagidede also pointed out the lack of an approved stadium for their matches, expressing concern over the current state of Ghanaian football.

“Even if we should have qualified, we don’t even have an approved stadium that we would have played our matches. It is worrying and we must learn to do that right thing to ensure our game gets to the next level,” he added.

Last season, Nsoatreman triumphed over their rivals, Bofoakwa Tano, to win the FA Cup and were eager to make a statement in their first-ever Confederation Cup appearance.

They initially secured a victory against Chadian club Elect Sports in the preliminary round but faced a tough challenge against CS Constantine.

Nsoatreman FC lost the first leg 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium and fell 1-0 in the return match at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui.

The Ghanaian side has been crashed out of the Confederation Cup in the second round of the preliminary round of games.

The FA Cup champions suffered a 3-0 aggregate scoreline against CS Constantine. In the first leg staged at the Accra Sports Stadium, Nsoatreman suffered a 2-0 defeat before suffering a 1-0 defeat in the second leg held at the Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui.

Reacting to their elimination, Alagidede admitted that they were playing above themselves due to the opponents they played against.

“We were punching above our weight. We are disappointed because playing against North African teams are always difficult because they have the backing the country, so we just have to stay focused and ensure we play in the group phase next time,” he told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.

“If we are able to compete well and keep this team, I am convinced we will return to Africa and play in the group stage,” he added.

Nsoatreman FC qualified to play in the second round after beating Chadian side Elect Sport.

Yaw Preko and his charges now turn their attention to the domestic games where they are expected to compete in the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup.

The Nsoatreman FC suffered a 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg before suffering a 1-0 defeat in the return leg in Algers at the Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui.

Despite their early elimination, Alagidede said their participation was a learning curve for the playing body.

According to him, they will compete well in the domestic league to ensure they return to Africa again.

“It was a learning curve for us. We will compete in the domestic league and ensure we defend our FA Cup title and compete well in the Ghana Premier League,” he told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.

Nsoatreman FC will now turn their attention to competing in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League and will hope to defend their FA Cup title.

Despite suffering a 2-0 defeat in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, Alagidede believes in his team’s potential for a comeback.

As they prepare for the return leg at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui this weekend, Alagidede expressed confidence.

“We admit that we are in a difficult situation but I believe we can do a miracle in Algeria,” he told Asempa FM,” he told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.

He emphasized their focus and quality, asserting, “We are focused and with the quality we have, I know we can qualify for the group stage,” he added.

Nsoatreman FC will conduct their final training session today in anticipation of the match, which is set to kick off on Saturday, September 21, at 17:00 GMT.

Konadu, who joined the Nsoatre-based team as head coach on a two-year contract ahead of the 2023/24 football season, departed after just one season.

Nsoatreman FC had high hopes for Konadu, particularly after he led the team to clinch the FA Cup title by defeating regional rivals Bofoakwa Tano.

The club had anticipated his leadership for their inaugural CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

In an interview on Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show, Alagidede conveyed the astonishment felt by the fans and the Board of Directors regarding Konadu’s decision.

“We are still surprised by Maxwell Konadu’s sudden exit. We were planning on recruiting players to strengthen the team for the Confederation Cup and so his decision to leave was shocking,” he said.

“The news got to the fans and the Board of Directors as a big shock but we have moved on because he is gone,” he added.

Maxwell Konadu has since joined Black Leopards, a lower-tier side in South Africa, on a three-year contract.

Preko, a former Ghana international, has signed a two-year contract, succeeding Maxwell Konadu.

Konadu has departed for the South African lower-tier side, Black Leopards, after leading Nsoatreman FC to victory in the FA Cup against Bofoakwa Tano.

“Yaw Preko has worked with various national teams and amassed significant experience. He has worked alongside Karim Zito and other good coaches,” Alagidede said on Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.

“He won the Nigerian FA Cup and participated in the Confederation Cup with FC Ifeanyi Ubah. Preko has also been involved with Shooting Stars and has been going to Shenfield United for an attachment. Considering all these factors, we concluded he is the right person for the job,” he added.

Yaw Preko is set to guide the team in their debut appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Following their victory in the FA Cup against Bofoakwa Tano, the Ghana Premier League side is set to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time.

Konadu guided the team to a thrilling 5-4 penalty shootout win against their regional rivals at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday.

In an interview, Alagidede expressed the club’s confidence in head coach Maxwell Konadu, confirming his leadership for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.

“He will indeed lead us in Africa. We have great confidence in Maxwell Konadu. With a year remaining on his contract, we’re certain he’ll successfully guide us through this campaign” Alagidede told 3Sports.

After winning the FA Cup, Nsoatreman FC has been awarded GH¢180,000. Under Konadu’s leadership, they are poised to make a significant impact on the African stage, despite their relative inexperience at this level.

The Ghana Premier League outfit have earned the opportunity to represent the country in the continental competition after clinching their maiden FA Cup title with a victory over Bofoakwa Tano in a thrilling penalty shootout at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday.

In an interview, Mr. Alagidede expressed their intention to enhance their squad and compete effectively on the continental stage  to make a lasting impression.

“We will improve the team for Africa next season. The coach has already started discussions with some players because we need to go there and leave a mark” he told Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.

While acknowledging Dreams FC’s impressive run to the semifinals last season, Alagidede stressed that, Nsoatreman FC intends to focus on their own preparations and performance.

“Dreams FC have set the standard but we are not under pressure to replicate what Dreams FC did by playing in the semifinals. We will prepare adequately and ensure we go to Africa and perform,” he added.

The two Bono clubs faced off on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where Nsoatreman claimed victory with a 5-4 win in a penalty shootout.

In an interview, Alagidede noted that despite Bofoakwa’s relegation to the Division One League, they expected a challenging match against their regional rivals.

“Bofoakwa Tano’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League was about managerial issues, but they have a strong team,” Alagidede told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.

“We anticipated a tough game. When Bofoakwa scored first, it became even more challenging for us. However, I was confident we would win, and our team fought hard to secure the trophy,” he added.

The match concluded 1-1 in regulation time.

Bofoakwa Tano took an early lead in the 21st minute with Richard Dzikoe’s close-range goal, assisted by Ali Alhassan’s precise cross. Nsoatreman FC equalized late in the second half when Sadat Mohammed exploited a goalkeeper’s error with a long-range shot.

As FA Cup champions, Nsoatreman FC will receive a prize of GH¢180,000 and will represent Ghana in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.

Nsoatreman FC will face Bofoakwa Tano in the final of the 2023/24 FA Cup at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on June 23.

The winner of the final will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Discussing the upcoming final, Alagidede expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform on the African stage.

“We are ready. Once we are in the final, we want to win it and go to Africa. If given the chance, we will compete in the African competition and perform well. Although it’s challenging to play the final in Accra, we have no other option” he told Citi TV.

Reflecting on their playoff game against Tamale City FC, Alagidede highlighted the strong fan support.

“We brought a lot of fans to Accra, with over 30 buses. We will organize even more buses to ensure strong support for the boys,” he added.

Nsoatreman FC secured their place in the final by defeating Legon Cities 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope.
