According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Ali Abubakari.

In a statement, the GNFS said it received a distress call at approximately 12:25 p.m. regarding a fire at block number E 6264, known to be retailing petrol in gallons.

A fire crew, led by Station Officer I Daniels Moah, was swiftly dispatched and arrived at the scene at 12:31 p.m.

Upon arrival, the fire had already engulfed the uncompleted structure, which was being used to store gallons of petrol and six bags of beans. The building was partially destroyed, but six other bags were successfully salvaged by the crew.

The firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within ten minutes and fully extinguished it by 12:55 p.m. using water.

The charred body of the deceased was handed over to officers from the Ejura Police Command for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the GNFS has commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and is urging the public to avoid storing or dispensing petroleum products in unauthorised or unsafe structures.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirm our commitment to protecting lives and property through timely and professional emergency response,” the statement added.

There is a limit to human endurance – Adomako Baafi warns after NPP Ejura youth organiser assault http://34.58.148.58/there-is-a-limit-to-human-endurance-adomako-baafi-warns-after-npp-ejura-youth-organiser-assault/ Mon, 21 Oct 2024 15:33:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2462655 Former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Yaw Adomako Baafi has warned against violence being perpetrated against some supporters of the party.

It comes after alleged assault of the Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party in the Ejura Constituency, Abdul Rahman Hudu by a co-panelist, Osman Abubakari Sadiq of NDC on live radio.

Mr. Baafi, says the NPP has taken notice of pockets of violence being perpetrated in some constituencies against NPP members.

“We are not in a brutish state. It is about the law, so the law will take its due course. But as I rightly said, there is a limit to human endurance”, he said.

The Former Communications Officer further added, “it is becoming one too many. We have been accommodating this kind of reckless and irresponsible act. If they keep on doing that I am afraid they will realize that they brought their battle into our field.”

A video in circulation captures the NPP Youth Organiser attempting to defend himself after being attacked by a co-panelist of the National Democratic Congress, Osman Abubakari Sadiq.

The NPP Youth Organiser for Ejura, Abdul Rahman Hudu, claims the co-panelist used a pen to inflict a wound in his face.

Speaking to JoyNews, he claims to have been punched in the face and parts of the body. He further alleged the suspect hit his back with an object, a pain he continues to endure.

Abdul refused to grant a recorded interview but says he is pained all over the body.

Adomako Baafi wants party members to restrain from reprisal attacks as the law enforcement agencies move to resolve the present issue.

He believes the peace council and other organizations will have to move in to ensure sanity.

“I will appeal to the National Peace Council, clergy, chief imam and all who matter, we don’t want such a state to happen. We all need to condemn it and the law must take its due course”, he stated.

Meanwhile, the suspect was invited by the police on Saturday for a statement to be taken as part of investigations.

Joy News sources reveal the police at the Ashanti Regional Command are moving in to take over the matter.

2024 polls: Ejura NDC targets over 20k vote difference http://34.58.148.58/2024-polls-ejura-ndc-targets-over-20k-vote-difference/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 15:00:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2450599 The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Ejura Sekyeredumasi in the Ashanti Region is aiming for a remarkable historic vote difference of 20,000in the upcoming December election, citing better policies and past achievements to support this target.

The Member of Parliament, Mohammed Bawa Braimah believes the party has become more appealing to voters, who he expects will turn out in large numbers for them.

“I think in 2020, there was a vote difference of over 5,000, but this time round, we are going to give the NPP a difference of 20,000 come December,” Bawa Braimah stated.

He points to significant development projects completed by the NDC in the constituency as examples of effective and selfless leadership.

“Our people are impressed with our [past] performance and they want to vote the NDC back to power,” he said.

Mr Bawa Braimah addressed the media during the party’s campaign launch at the Lorry Park in Ejura.

He is calling on residents to support the NDC in the upcoming December election.

Various speakers from the national level, including Haruna Iddrisu, Samuel Sarpong, and Ashanti regional executives, stressed the importance of voting for the NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama to ensure better economic management for Ghanaians.

Party members and supporters at the campaign launch expressed that their voting decisions will be influenced by the current economic conditions.

Adiza Munkaila shared her concerns about the economic situation, stating that the prices of essential goods have risen, making them unaffordable for women.

“Inflation is taking away the country – women can’t go to market and we hardly go to market,” Adiza said.

She believes that Ghanaian women need the NDC to return to power and lead the country again.

Rubatu Musah agrees with Adiza about the rising prices of goods, urging Ghanaians to consider their living standards when voting for the NDC.

“Let’s try and vote for John Dramani because things haven’t been good. This is the time for John Dramani to return to rule,” she indicated.

A member of the NDC in Ejura, Abdul Razak, expresses confidence that the party will win power, asserting that change will definitely come in December.

Other residents, such as Samira Iddrisu and Yakubu Ibrahim, indicated that they want to witness change in the upcoming December election that will bring improvement to their living conditions.

Relatives of Ejura robbery suspects demand their immediate release http://34.58.148.58/relatives-of-ejura-robbery-suspects-demand-their-immediate-release/ Tue, 17 Oct 2023 15:57:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2306865 Relatives of two suspects arrested by police at Ejura in the Ashanti Region are demanding their immediate release, denying reports linking them to a foiled robbery attack.

The suspects, identified as Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abukakari, were arrested by the police after a foiled robbery attempt.

They are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation, while one other suspect is still at large.

A police officer died during a gun battle between the officers and the suspects, and another police officer was injured.

However, relatives of the suspects and other residents in the area vehemently deny claims that the two men arrested are linked to the alleged robbery operation.

Assembly Member for Sarki Kura Electoral Area in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality, Adam Alhassan, described the police statement as a total fabrication and demanded the suspects be released.

The Assembly member also demanded that the Inspector General of Police review the operations of the Police Investigative Department, which he said is causing problems in the country.

“These two are men of integrity and are not armed robbers,” Alhassan said. “Alhaji in particular is an informant of the police in the municipality. The police also said that two suspects were arrested with one on the run, which is a total fabrication of facts.

“The three suspects reported to the Ejura police voluntarily and were told to go to the Mampong police for their statements to be taken, and they were subsequently detained and later charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder, and not robbery as was alleged in the police statement.

“We the family want to use this medium to tell the IGP to monitor and review the operations of the Police Investigative Department since their operations are causing a lot of problems in the police service because any Ghanaian that will meet them will mistake them for armed robbers and we urge the government to free our brothers.”

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods http://34.58.148.58/kyekyenkura-farmlands-takeover-hundreds-of-farmers-to-lose-livelihoods/ Thu, 06 Apr 2023 07:13:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2236855 Hundreds of subsistence farmers at Kyekyenkura in Ejura in the Ashanti region are set to lose their livelihoods as traditional authorities take over acres of their land.

Farmers say that over 1500 acres of agricultural land have already been taken away, and they have been told not to go there.

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

“For the past 5 to 6 years, there have been issues of farmlands where farmers depend on it for their survival. We had a call from Ejura Traditional Council to stop farming on some portions of the land which was about 500 acres,” one of the leaders of the farmers, Abdul-Rahman Hudu said.

Over 5, 000 farmers rely on these farmlands, which they have managed for over 70 years, for their livelihoods.

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, affected farmers rode on their bikes to some of the farmlands that had been taken over from them.

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

The JoyNews team observed that the farmlands had already been plowed in preparation for this year’s farming season. The farmers informed the team that they have no idea who is working on the land and for what purpose.

Despite the sight of a tractor on one side of the farmland, which the team was informed had broken down, there was no one to talk with.

The piece of land being worked on is just one of 500 acres on which about 1000 farmers rely.

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

According to Abdul-Rahman, another call from the Ejura Traditional Council in January 2023 ordered them not to farm on the remaining land.

“This land we are talking about is managed by the community for over 70 years,” he said.

He says that the entire community depended on over 1000 acres for their agricultural activities.

“And the farmers on the said land are over four thousand (4000).”

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

Hudu states that when the traditional council took over the farmlands, most of the farmers relocated, while others lost faith in life because that was their only source of livelihood.

“… Most of the people relocated from the community. Some committed suicide as result of all hope lost. While others turned to drunkards and now they are a burden to the society as a whole,” said Abdul-Rahman.

According to the small-scale farmers, taking the farmlands is likely to result in one of two outcomes: community breakdown or hunger, because they produce to support themselves.

“My spouse was 118 years old. His children and grand kids are all living here. I have seven children who rely on me,” Hawa Alidu said.

Hawa’s two-acre land has also been taken away from her and the 52-year-old is uneducated and unskilled, to seek alternative means of livelihood.

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

“I am uneducated and have never learned a trade. Farming is the only occupation I am familiar with. Even if my yields are low, I know my colleagues can help with food,” Hawa said.

But now Hawa and everyone she knows is without farmland now.

Hawa Haruna’s partner has also died. Previously, she had to rely on other farmers for agricultural products to feed her family. The 62-year-old has, however, resorted to selling things in order to support her children.

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

Muhammad Bawah Braimah, Member of Parliament for Ejura Sekyeredumasi, believes that while the traditional council has power over the lands they should reconsider the situation.

“I don’t have control over the lands, I only have to as a leader to plead with Nananom to attach a human face to the arrangements that they are making on the land.”

According to Mr Braimah, the main resource involved in farming is land, and once the land is taken away, the farmer’s very existence on earth is no longer required.

Kyekyenkura farmlands takeover: Hundreds of farmers to lose livelihoods

Back in the Kyekyenkura community, farmers say they are not challenging the traditional authorities over who controls the lands, but rather requesting that they reconsider their decision.

“We are not fighting with the traditional council over the land because they are the custodians of the land. But what we are saying is that they should reconsider their decision because we have no other work apart from farming and we don’t have any land apart from this particular land in question.”

They are requesting that the traditional council reconsider its decision and evaluate the long-term impact on the community and the traditional region.

Meanwhile, efforts to speak to the traditional council proved futile.

Mahama visits Ejura accident victims

The November 21 accident, which occurred when the supporters were travelling to Ejura for a constituency rally, resulted in some deaths while a number of the NDC supporters including the Branch Chairman had their legs and arms amputated.

Ahead of his tour of the Ashanti Region to thank the people for their support and votes in the election, the NDC 2020 Presidential Candidate visited Frantie to console the families of the dead, thanked the chiefs and people for their care for the injured and also personally visited the injured.

The family of the victims and the injured, speaking through the Branch Chairman for Frante, thanked Mr Mahama for his support, through the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, for their welfare.

But he said that many of them are no longer able to go to their farms and have other challenges, and appealed to the party and President Mahama for assistance.

President Mahama presented ¢50,000 to the victims and announced that all those with amputations will receive prosthesis, an artificial replacement for a missing limb.

Others with any complication will also be given further treatment in Accra. He urged the MP for Ejura Sekyedumase, Bawa Braimah Mohammed, to facilitate with his office for the treatments.

President Mahama, accompanied by his running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang and other officials earlier paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Frante, his elders and queen mother to thank them for their support.

Ejura probe: Committee should have recommended removal of Ashanti Regional Minister – MP http://34.58.148.58/ejura-probe-committee-should-have-recommended-removal-of-ashanti-regional-minister-mp/ Wed, 04 Aug 2021 12:59:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1996154

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejura, Mohammed Braimah, says the three-member Committee that investigated the Ejura disturbances should have recommended the removal of the Regional Minister.

He also suggested that failing that, a more punitive punishment should be meted out to the Minister for deploying Military personnel to the scene.

Ejura Sekyedumase MP, Muhammad Bawah Braimah

Mohammed Braimah, speaking to Parliamentary correspondent, Joseph Opoku Gakpo, said the people of Ejura are dissatisfied with the recommendations.

“The people have greeted the report of the Committee with mixed feelings and myself, representing the good people of Ejura feel that the report, the recommendations are okay but they should have been far reaching,” he said.

According to Mr Braimah, the recommendation for the removal of just the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) is not enough.

This, he said, is because the MCE does not act on his own authority but takes orders from the Regional Minister.

“The MCE does not act in a vacuum, he reports to the Chairman of the Regional Security Council who is the Regional Minister who himself admitted that he ordered the deployment of the Military and we all saw that, that deployment ended up in casualties with two losing their lives, one boy having the leg amputated, two other people getting injured.

“And so if you are recommending that the MCE should be removed from office, I think that the Regional Minister who ordered that deployment should also follow suit,” he emphasised.

He also critiqued the recommendation to the effect that the military officer on the ground at the time of the Ejura attack should be sanctioned.

“I saw another recommendation which asked for the sanction of the military on the ground. Which of them? Is it the Commander because if you look at the work of the Committee they should have even invited the military men on the ground,” he told Joy News.

He explained kneeling is part of a strategy adopted by the force to disperse crowd as he comments about the yet-to-be-identified soldier, who was captured in viral photos on his knees.

“There is a procedure in dispersing crowds. The first is a verbal warning. The second is to cork your weapons to signal to the crowd that you are about to fire. The third is to fire warning shots but the signal to scare them includes kneeling to aim for you to be scared maybe disperse,” he told the three-committee probing the incident on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Lt Col Peprah argued no casualties were recorded from the angle the soldier reportedly knelt and fired the shots, adding the men applied minimal force.

“As a matter of fact, the direction of the man who knelt was such that no casualty came from that side. He didn’t fire. He didn’t fire. He fired only warning shots but when he went down, he didn’t fire,” he maintained.

According to him, the driver took a very intelligent position to reverse amid the uneasy calm in the community although it was risky.

“That is why I have even said that the man if you are lucky and we play the clip, the driver of the water cannon vehicle must be rewarded because he took a very intelligent position to reverse though it was risky,” he said.

Appearing before the three-member committee set up to probe the disturbances on Monday, Mr Osei-Mensah said but for this strategic move, issues could have escalated.

“The language they [protesters] were saying, I don’t understand Hausa but those who interpreted to me said we have been effective and we have defeated them, they are running away. So assuming the vehicle had stopped, anything at all could have happened,” he noted.

His comment comes on the back of a shooting incident on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, which led to the death of two persons; Nasiru Abdul Yussif and Muntala Mohammed.

They were part of an irate youth protesting the death of a social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed aka Kaaka Macho.

Mr Mensah has explained he requested for the soldiers on Monday evening upon intelligence he gathered.

As Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), he gathered that the youth had planned to burn the District Police Station.

This, he said, was to take place after the burial of social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed aka Kaaka Macho, who died on Monday after a mob attack.

“I called on the military, as the Chairman of REGSEC to be a backup a day before the incident.

“I did that based on intelligence I gathered that the youth had planned to go and burn the police station in the town and the homes of the two suspects the police have arrested after the burial of Kaaka,” he disclosed on Accra-based Peace FM.

Simon Osei Mensah

Though he described the incident as unfortunate, he argued it was not the first time the military had been called as reinforcement.

“It is very unfortunate what happened, but this isn’t the first time the military has been called upon to assist the police. It is a strategy I have used since 2017,” he noted.

Kaaka Macho died from head injuries three days after being admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Ibrahim Mohammed was repeatedly hit in the head with objects until he lost consciousness.

Mr Mohammed is a well-known NPP member in the Ejura Sekyeredumasi constituency.

He has always called for social amenities to be provided to the rural folks.

According to his brother’s wife, Sadia Fuseini, she heard incessant screams from outside their home so she proceeded outside to check only to find Ibrahim lying unconscious.

NPP social activist attacked in Ejura

Speaking to JoyNews’ Mahmud Mohammed-Nurudeen, a relative of the victim, Abee Wakas Umar stated that “the assailants thought Ibrahim had died so they left the house.”

At about 2:00 am, the victim’s wife, Sa’ada Hudu, and other relatives had to transport Ibrahim on a motorbike to the Ejura Government Hospital for medical treatment.

Sources say, he was found in a pool of blood after the assailants had left.

According to a Medical report in the possession of JoyNews, Ibrahim was diagnosed with severe head injury due to the assault.

The report also describes his condition as having suffered “multiple deep scalp lacerations, deeply unconscious, multiple facial lesions, facial and head contusions.”

The victim is therefore not responding to external stimuli. As a result, a Medical Superintendent at the Hospital said Ibrahim’s condition is critical.

Ibrahim has therefore been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.

In recent times, the victim took to social media, particularly Facebook Live, to expose social issues affecting residents of Ejura.

Sources say his decision to highlight issues facing the rural folks did not go down well with some people who claim his actions were making the town unpopular.

Ibrahim, popularly known as Kaaka, received several death threats until Saturday dawn when he had returned home from preparing for his relative’s wedding when the two assailants attacked him.

The victim, Kaaka Anyass Ibrahim (Macho Kaka)

Umar said the assailants had already ambushed him in the house, knowing well he would come back late because of their conversation, usually long hours, ahead of the wedding ceremony.

When Ibrahim got home on his motorbike, he was severely attacked, leading to a severe head injury.

The case has been reported to the Ejura police, but some residents are unhappy with the slow pace of the investigation since they have already submitted names of suspects to the police.

They have therefore stormed the District Police Command,/ demanding answers and asking the Police to speed up the investigation to avoid disturbance in the town.

Police report from the Criminal Investigation Department indicates, the case was reported at 2:00am Saturday, June 26, 2021.

But the security service is yet to communicate to the relatives; a situation the family is dissatisfied with.
