Dr Felix Anyaah said officials at the Ministry are sabotaging a $55 million project in which the facility would benefit from 20,000 beds so as to line their pockets.

He said the project which was secured over five years ago was not prioritized by Health Ministry.

Speaking to Raymond Acquah on Upfront the JOYNEWS channel Wednesday, he revealed that all attempts to get the Ministry to urgently release funds for the project has failed while people die needlessly.

“Tuesday was the second day I shed tears because some people paid with their lives for small things we have failed to fix as a country.

“When Joy News reported the death of a 70-year-old man who died because he did not get a bed after going around seven hospitals in the capital, I was upset,” he said.

Dr Anyaah who was among the list of CEOs who were relieved of their duties by the President last Wednesday said it is sad those in authority have looked on for such a mess to happen in the sector.

The owner of Holy Trinity Hospital and Spa in surprised decision makers only look out for their selfish interest when donors are willing to push money into the hospital to save lives.

He cited a document from the Foreign Affairs Ministry warning the Health Ministry of unjustifiably withdrawing from a Kuwait government donation funds.

The Saudi Kuwait government donated over $55 million to build a modern-day Accident and Emergency Centre for KBTH but Dr Anyaah claims some people at the Health Ministry are drawing from the account.

“For almost six years, people are sitting down chopping from this account…” he said adding the policy on projects at the KBTH has to be looked at.

According to him, it is archaic for government to concentrate on auditing financials to the neglect of operations.

He said one of the key things he focused on during his tenure was answering questions about the number of people on a particular project as well as how a project must be executed.

Dr Anyaah said although he was kicked out, he is proud of the laying the foundation blocks.

During his administration, he who was voted the overall best CEO (private/public sector) in 2017, got the hospital a new executive wing which contained an invitro fertilization centre as well as DNA and general lab services.

His dismissal generated a wave of agitations among some workers of KBTH who registered their displeasure with the decision.

“He is a loving CEO and unlike others, we have had in the past, Dr Anyaa has the interest of the hospital at heart and is not looting our coffers like some of his predecessors,” one of them said.

‘I was relieved due to my age; I wasn’t sacked’ – Anyaah clarifies http://34.58.148.58/i-was-relieved-due-to-my-age-i-wasnt-sacked-anyaah-clarifies/ Tue, 12 Jun 2018 06:59:30 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1157291 The immediate past Acting Director of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital says he is pleased that government has clarified the reason why he was relieved of his duty.

Dr Felix Anyaah disclosed that he did not do anything wrong to merit a dismissal, adding he was only relieved of his position because of his age.

“I heard all sorts of speculations but whatever be the reason, I was there as a servant ready to serve. Government clearing the air that I was sacked due to my age was okay,” he said.

There has been a lot of speculations after President Akufo-Addo included the owner of Holy Trinity Hospital and Spa in the list of CEOs who were relieved of their duties last Wednesday.

He was appointed in May 2017.

The reasons for the termination of his appointment were not immediately known, although his contract cancellation came in the wake of seeming waves of dismissal of CEOs of state agencies by the President.

Already, the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil and Storage Transport (BOST), Alfred Obeng Boateng; CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Gifty Klenam; MD of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GHAPOHA), Paul Ansah have all been sacked by President Akufo-Addo last Wednesday.

One of the reasons for his sacking was the termination of the hospital’s onsite banking contract with Unibank in which two deputy Chiefs of Staff, Francis Asenso Boateng and Samuel Abu Jinapor intervened to get it reversed.

Following from that, musician and one-time aide of Dr Anyaa, Kwame Asare Obeng [aka A Plus], engaged the two in a social media spat, which ended at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and they were later cleared.

Some people believe the bad blood may have lingered and contributed to Dr Anyaa’s sacking, although there was no official communication to that effect.

But speaking at the ceremony where he also handed over to the Director of Medical Affairs Dr Samuel Asiamah, Dr Anyaah said he is happy the reasons for his contract termination have been made clear.

“I believe the media using dismissed and sacked was the printers devil. Government has come out to clarify that it is not what it intended to say because dismissal means the person would have done something wrong,” he told Joy News’ Kwesi Parker Wilson.

Workers of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) have protested his removal arguing he brought remarkable changes at the hospital.

“He is a loving CEO and unlike others, we have had in the past, Dr Anyaah has the interest of the hospital at heart and is not looting our coffers like some of his predecessors,” one of them said.

“Dr Anyaah has brought stability and championed development at Korle Bu so we do not understand why he has been given the boot,” another worker said.

Dr Anyaah said trials like being relieved of his duties at Korle Bu is part of what God has planned for him.

The staunch Christian said God is in control adding he is not in any way bitter with the President’s decision.

Interestingly, Dr Felix Anyaa has so far enjoyed a cordial working relationship with the workers of the Hospital since his appointment in May last year.

This is very unusual with past CEOs of the country’s biggest hospital who have been accused by the staff of looting the hospital’s coffers among other allegations.
