Dr. Amoako Baah, in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, April 23, questioned the appropriateness of the tour after what he described as a “colossal defeat” in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

“What is going on is not good. When you lose this colossally, you don’t go on a Thank You Tour. No, thank you for what? For not voting for me?

“Instead, you say, ‘Sorry, forgive me.’ That’s what you do in this instance — and it’s not just for the flagbearer; all the party people should be doing that,” he insisted.

His comments come just hours after the NPP officially launched its Thank You Tour at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.

The tour, led by the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, April 26, and will see the party leadership traveling across the country to express appreciation to its supporters.

Dr. Bawumia, the sitting Vice President during the elections, was defeated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and now-President, John Dramani Mahama, in a landslide victory. The NPP also lost several key parliamentary seats, reducing its influence in the legislature.

Dr. Amoako Baah has long been an outspoken internal critic of the NPP and has previously urged the party to undertake serious introspection and reform following its electoral setbacks.

However, the Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that the scheduled Thank You Tour, which the former Vice President is to embark on, is aimed at reorganising the party’s members.

According to Mr. Ahiagbah, the 2024 defeat can largely be attributed to party supporters not coming out to vote, and the Thank You Tour is intended to serve as a bridge to correct the mistakes made.

“We are telling you that one of the key things the former Vice President highlighted is that our people didn’t come out to vote. This Thank You Tour is designed to galvanise the party, address the issues that need to be fixed, and to truly regenerate our party, reignite our passion, and work towards returning the party to power,” he said.

Why I lost EC appointment under Akufo-Addo – Amoako Baah [Listen] http://34.58.148.58/why-i-lost-ec-appointment-under-akufo-addo-amoako-baah-listen/ Thu, 17 Apr 2025 14:41:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2526403 Political Scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has recounted how he lost an opportunity to be appointed as the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member revealed that he contested the party’s Chairmanship position not because he needed the role but to get closer to Akufo-Addo and guide him on key decisions.

He explained, “I contested as the National Chairman just to get close to the President because I didn’t even need the position for anything, but only 18 people in the party saw the truth.”

However, after his defeat, Akufo-Addo’s cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, informed him that he had missed a significant opportunity to become the EC Chair.

Dr. Baah recalled, “One time I spoke to Gabby and he asked me why I contested for the National Chairmanship because they were considering making me the Electoral Commissioner, but my participation in the election thwarted it.”

Dr. Baah expressed disappointment, questioning whether party decisions should be determined by only a select few, asking, “Is that to suggest we only do what a few want in the party?”

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Dr. Baah announced that he had resigned from the NPP, citing frustration with the party’s leadership and its failure to connect with ordinary supporters.

He also hinted at the formation of a new political party, the New Patriotic Front (NPF), claiming that the initiative already has support from about 36 NPP stalwarts.

It’s just a matter of time until NPP dies – Political scientist http://34.58.148.58/its-just-a-matter-of-time-until-npp-dies-political-scientist/ Tue, 26 Sep 2023 11:11:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2298368 A disgruntled member of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Amoako Baah has predicted that the NPP will go extinct in the near future.

According to the former Head of the Political Science Department of KNUST, the party has lost focus insisting that it has ended up in the hands of the wrong people who are using it to serve their self parochial interest.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews following the resignation of former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, the political science lecturer indicated that the NPP in its current state is not the party he has known over the years.

He accused the leading members of the party of thievery, corruption, and bias among others which he believed forced the hand of Alan Kyerematen to exit and run as an independent candidate.

“I saw earlier, more than two years ago that no, this is not what I bargained for so I started speaking against the party at least to try to get them to correct some things. They didn’t do it. They do what they want. They steal all the money. Thievery, that’s what is going on,” he said.

He predicted that with this current state of affairs in the NPP, the party is definitely going to die to give birth to a new party.

He explained that in a matter of time, the NPP will be divided into two, the Kumasi bloc and the others. He further noted that the Kumasi bloc will be stronger while the other will die to open a new dawn for the party.

“The party is in the wrong hands and you cannot correct it from within. The party must die. And it is going to die. You watch it and see, it is going to die. It will be divided in two. The Kumasi people will have the bigger power and the other one will die. Then we get rid of all those running the party down. They all want money,” he added.
