He stated that failing to maintain peace could lead to significant consequences.

He made this known on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, following the recent confiscation of firearms and live ammunition at the Tema Port.

He described such incidents as a serious threat to national security and warned that they should not be allowed to continue.

“As we approach the elections, it is crucial to remember that we need peace, not chaos. Anyone found involved in such illegal activities will be dealt with severely,” Asante stated.

Mr. Asante reiterated the importance of protecting peace during the election period.

“We don’t have anywhere to go if we fail to safeguard our peace. We need to silence the gun to save lives during the elections. The goal is to ensure that no one uses firearms to disrupt the election process,” he said.

Customs officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) discovered 53 pistols, 74 magazines, and 65 rounds of live ammunition hidden in a container that was falsely declared to contain vehicles and personal effects.

The shipment, arriving from the United States, was intercepted after thorough investigations by the GRA’s Intelligence and Preventive Units.

However, Mr. Asante stated that although the weapons were seized, it is too early to determine whether they are linked to the upcoming December 7 elections.

“We cannot make any conclusions until the investigation is fully completed,” he said.

He therefore advised the public that anyone wishing to acquire a firearm must follow the correct legal processes.

“If you don’t have bad intentions, then go through the proper channels to acquire a registered weapon. It’s important to ensure all firearms are legally acquired,” he advised.

The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Efua Ghartey, has emphasized the importance of conducting the upcoming December elections with transparency, fairness, and integrity.

During her swearing-in ceremony with the newly appointed GBA executives, Mrs. Ghartey highlighted the critical role legal professionals play in maintaining democratic principles, especially during election periods.

She called for a commitment to ensuring that the elections are conducted in a transparent and fair manner, commending lawyers for their efforts in educating the public on electoral matters.

She noted that this education has been partly achieved through their involvement in high-profile legal cases, particularly referencing the televised election petitions heard by the Supreme Court in 2013 and 2021, which helped demystify judicial processes surrounding electoral disputes.

Additionally, Mrs. Ghartey acknowledged the media’s crucial role in providing comprehensive coverage of court proceedings, enhancing public access to information, and supporting transparency within the judicial system.

She also urged lawyers to maintain a commitment to environmental protection, expressing confidence that their collective efforts could significantly contribute to safeguarding Ghana’s natural resources.

“Our collective effort will definitely yield results as we remain resolute in our resolve not to shortchange ourselves where our environment is concerned,” she stated.

Kwaku Kwarteng outdoors campaign for December elections http://34.58.148.58/kwaku-kwarteng-outdoors-campaign-for-december-elections/ Tue, 03 Sep 2024 12:38:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2443343 The Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Kwaku Kwarteng, says the remarkable achievement of the NPP (New Patriotic Party) in the last eight years put it in a better position to retain power in the December general elections.

He, however, pointed out that, this could be achieved if party members and supporters continued to work hard in unity to confront the task ahead.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s constituency campaign, he said the party needed unity and teamwork to break the eight-year rule cycle.

The campaign launch coincided with the unveiling of a formidable team made up of party executives to lead the campaign activities in the constituency.

Mr Kwarteng said the NPP had delivered on its campaign promises and needed to get another chance to continue with the transformation agenda of the country.

“We have delivered on our promises to the good people of Obuasi. We have not reneged on our promises.

“We all know the state of Obuasi we came to meet and the level of development Obuasi has seen now,” the Obuasi West MP said.

He mentioned the comeback of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) in 2019 after the company had declared care and maintenance in 2014, as a promise the party fulfilled when it was initially voted into power in 2016.

Mr Kwarteng pointed out that, the economy of Obuasi collapsed when AGA went down but through the intervention of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, AGA was revived, and this had helped in giving more lifeline to the Obuasi economy, including creating more jobs.

He also mentioned projects such as the Obuasi Trauma Hospital, the Anwiankwanta to Obuasi Road, the Obuasi internal roads, the construction of the Obuasi children’s park, KNUST-Obuasi campus project and others, as key projects the government had embarked on in Obuasi, stressing that, the government needed overwhelming endorsement from the people of Obuasi to continue with the good works.

According to Mr. Kwarteng, Obuasi would continue to see massive development in his next term judging from the work he had done so far and mentioned several road projects in the area to be done.

These include the New Biakoye Road, Kunka Internal Roads, Estate Road and Sanso Internal Roads.

He also mentioned the establishment of a fully-fledged technical university in Obuasi, the establishment of the Obuasi industrial park and railway development, as key projects to be expected when his mandate was renewed in the 2024 general elections.

The former Deputy Minister of Finance appealed to party members to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate Dr Mahamoud Bawumia to continue the legacy of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

He charged party supporters to go to the nook and crannies of the constituency and sell the good works of the New Patriotic Party and the good message of the party.

December Elections: NPP urges NDC to reconsider stance on 2024 peace pact http://34.58.148.58/december-elections-npp-urges-ndc-to-reconsider-stance-on-2024-peace-pact/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 09:24:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2434709 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reconsider its stance on signing the 2024 peace accord ahead of the December elections, stressing the importance of national interest.

This comes after NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, reportedly stated in an interview that the party would not commit to a peace declaration before the upcoming general elections.

In response, the NPP issued a statement expressing disappointment and concern, labeling the comments as “unfortunate” and “incendiary.”

The NPP criticized the NDC leadership for allegedly fostering an atmosphere of fear and suspicion among their supporters, which could lead to a rejection of the 2024 election results.

The statement, signed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua reaffirmed the party’s dedication to preserving peace and stability in Ghana before, during, and after the elections.

The NPP stated its consistent commitment to peace throughout the Fourth Republic, even in situations where it had legitimate concerns about the electoral process.

The party cited its participation in the Peace Accord since 2008, whether in government or opposition, and specifically mentioned its decision to sign the Peace Accord in 2016, despite contesting the 2012 election results in court and having reservations about the Electoral Commission’s neutrality.

Below is the full statement

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of a publication on myjoyonline.com dated August 15, 2024, captioned “We won’t sign peace declaration ahead of elections, says Asiedu Nketia,” ostensibly attributed to the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the publication, Mr. Asiedu Nketia made the statement during his appearance on Joy News’ current affairs programme, PM Express, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

The NPP takes a serious view of the statement and reacts as follows:
1. The NPP finds the comment by the NDC National Chairman very unfortunate and condemns it in no uncertain terms, given the worrying and incendiary nature of the statement.

2. We have noted with concern that the leadership of the NDC has gained notoriety for consistently beating the drums of war and preparing the minds of their supporters to reject the outcome of the 2024 general elections, foreseeing their inevitable loss.

3. The NPP wishes to make a passionate appeal to the NDC to reconsider their posture by reason of the national interest and desist from making statements likely to fuel tensions in the political atmosphere with far-reaching implications for the peace and security of our dear country.

4. We wish to reiterate our firm assurance to Ghanaians that the NPP remains solemnly committed, in words and in deeds, to maintaining the peace and stability of this country before, during, and after the 2024 elections, and will accept its outcome in good faith.

5. It is common knowledge that since the advent of the Fourth Republic, the NPP has been the political party that has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to maintaining the country’s peace, either before,
during, and after general elections and will never deviate from this commitment.

6. Since 2008, the NPP has always committed to signing the Peace Accord, either in government or opposition or during instances when the Party had genuine concerns about the sanctity of our electoral outcomes and processes. For instance, despite challenging the outcome of the 2012 general elections results in court and having doubts about the neutrality of the Electoral Commission, the NPP, guided by the overarching national
interest, still committed to the Peace Accord in 2016.

7. It is an established fact that whenever we have legitimate concerns, the NPP resorts to appropriate fora, including the courts, the Peace Council, IPAC, and other stakeholders to address our grievances and, where
necessary, call for electoral reforms to improve the country’s electoral systems and processes. We call on our rank and file to uphold our principled position despite provocations from the NDC, which has always
touted its revolutionary roots.

8. While we reiterate our commitment to signing the 2024 Election Peace Declaration with alacrity, we call on the National Peace Council, Civil Society Organisations, Religious and Traditional Authorities and indeed, all well-meaning Ghanaians to join us in condemning the statement by the NDC National Chairman and to urge the party to use appropriate channels to resolve any grievances.

9. Ironically, despite the NDC’s stated stance, they continue to be represented at the Peace Council, IPAC and National Security meetings. Why are they unable to maintain a principled stance to the peace and stability of Ghana?

10. Finally, we want to remind the NDC that Ghanaians are peace-loving people, and by the grace of God, Ghana will not experience any war regardless of the outcome of the 2024 general elections. The will of the
Ghanaians will always prevail.

Social interventions will collapse if NPP loses December elections – NAPO http://34.58.148.58/social-interventions-will-collapse-if-npp-loses-december-elections-napo/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 18:26:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2432838 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, says all social intervention programmes being implemented by the government to improve the living standards of Ghanaians will collapse if the party loses the December elections.

He said it is only the NPP government that can safeguard the interventions such as the Free SHS policy, National Health Insurance, Agenda 111 projects, and others, helping to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Addressing the Ashanti Regional Campaign Working Committee Meeting and Women’s Conference in Kumasi, Dr Prempeh, also known as NAPO, warned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would collapse and abolish all the initiatives, should they assume power in the upcoming elections.

He, therefore, urged all party members to unite and work together to campaign for the party to ensure the continuation of the social intervention programmes for the good of all Ghanaians.

Dr Prempeh stressed the importance of protecting the NPP’s legacy and ensuring that the party remained in power to maintain and continue to build on its social intervention and national transformation initiatives

The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare charged members of the party to focus on the everyday locations such as salons, markets, churches and fitting shops, to sell the good works of the government and party to the people to help win their votes in the December elections.

She said the party needed a comprehensive campaign strategy, which focused on leaving no one behind.

Madam Frema Opare tasked the women in the party to lead the campaign in their electoral areas, highlighting the need for the continuation of the various government policies geared towards improving the lives of women.

“They should connect with the broader electorates and leverage on grassroots support to help secure victory for the party in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.”
