In a Facebook post on Wednesday, January 14, Mr. Asante challenged claims suggesting GPCL was struggling financially at the time of transition. He pointed to the purchase of a luxury Toyota Land Cruiser, costing nearly US$200,000, and a US$20,000 digital printing machine shortly after the new management took office, arguing that these acquisitions were made possible from revenues and investments generated during his tenure from 2017 to 2024.

“The company consistently recorded profits, secured major contracts, and expanded operations over several years. These achievements were the result of long-term planning and strategic investments, not sudden actions by a few months of new management,” he stated.

Mr. Asante also emphasized that audited financial statements clearly reflect GPCL’s improved position and warned against attempts to rewrite the company’s history for political credit.

“GPCL’s turnaround is well documented and cannot be attributed to actions taken within a few months of the current administration,” he added.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, July 17, Mr Asante endorsed the Abetifi MP as the candidate best positioned to help the party recover from its poor showing in the 2024 general elections.

Reflecting on the NPP’s performance in the last election, Asante wrote:
“We lost at the polling stations, we lost at the constituencies, we lost at regional levels, we lost Parliament, we lost the Presidency miserably. It was an outright rejection overall.”

He emphasised the need for deep introspection and credible leadership that listens to the concerns of the Ghanaian electorate.

The former CEO stressed that the choice of flagbearer for the 2026 contest would shape the party’s chances in the next electoral cycle.

“Who leads our party will determine our pathway in 2028 and beyond!” he stated.

In that regard, Mr Asante presented Dr Bryan Acheampong as a leader with the capacity and clarity to reposition the party for future success, writing:
“May I introduce to you Dr Bryan Acheampong…”

Dr Acheampong, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has already declared his intention to contest the NPP’s presidential primary, slated for January 31, 2026.

His campaign is expected to focus on party reorganisation, grassroots empowerment, and rebuilding trust with the electorate after the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat.

His leadership, which concluded with a brief handover ceremony to his successor, Nana Kwasi Boatey, was defined by transformative achievements that revitalized GPCL.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Appointed in 2017 by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo, Asante inherited a company grappling with significant challenges, including a low public image, poor patronage of products and services, and deteriorating infrastructure.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has urged the government to allocate more resources towards revitalizing the Ghana Publishing Company Limited.

During a meeting with board members at the Manhyia palace, Otumfuo emphasized the crucial role of local publishing industries in preserving cultural heritage and fostering economic growth.

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited, once a thriving entity, has faced years of inactivity due to financial challenges.

Efforts are currently underway to restore its former prominence, with stringent measures being implemented.

Otumfuo called on policymakers to introduce supportive measures aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the publishing company.

He highlighted the importance of strategic investments and initiatives that would enable the company to regain its stature and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s publishing sector.

“We have left the company to collapse, but we can revive it and I am hopeful you are making progress since you are a limited liability company”.

“This is an important company because it gazettes everything. If the government supports them with deliberate policies and some percentage of government resources, I believe it will help develop the company,” the Asante King said.

“Ghana Publishing used to print all ballot papers for government and Electoral Commission (EC) but lost that mandate but we now have the capacity to take all printing jobs. We believe in competition and are ready to fight to get to the top,” he said confidently.

According to Mr David Asante, there had been a total face-lift within the entity which has elevated it to the status it is now.
