This, he explained is due to the chaos that characterised the Kumasi edition of the NDC’s ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration against the Electoral Commission(EC) on Tuesday.

Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Mr Amankwa cited the vandalism at the EC office stated it was uncalled for.

“What happened in Kumasi must be condemned. The NDC must advise the youth and call them to order. If the violence exhibited was a rehearsal towards 2024, then they should be careful. It is an act of indiscipline. I thought we have disbanded vigilantism but we must be careful because he NDC is gradually becoming a threat to national security as a group,” he condemned.

Approximately 5,000 NDC supporters gathered at the party’s Ashanti regional headquarters in Amakuom around 10:30 am before marching to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC).

The protest began peacefully, but tempers flared when the demonstrators led by the NDC Regional Chairman, Nana Akwasi Agyeman deviated from the planned route to submit their petition at the ARCC.

The situation resulted in a clash with the Police, leading to the injury of one officer who is currently undergoing treatment.

The Police were compelled to use tear gas to control the irate crowd as the pelted stones.

NDC’s demo was bogus; it was just to test popularity – Former MP [Audio] http://34.58.148.58/ndcs-demo-was-bogus-it-was-just-to-test-popularity-former-mp-audio/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 19:48:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2450755 Former Manhyia North Member of Parliament(MP), Collins Amankwa has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its demonstration against the Electoral Commission(EC).

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) member has described the demonstration as bogus and unwarranted.

In his view, it was just a means for the NDC to test its popularity in the country ahead of the December 7 election.

“From where I sit, the NDC’s enough is enough was extremely bogus. They were trying to test their popularity because it was NDC delegates and fun clubs that came out for the march.

“The NDC was expecting non-partisan Ghanaians to join them but they didn’t get those numbers,” he stated.

The NDC on Tuesday held a nationwide protest, insisting on an audit of the provisional voter’s register for the 2024 election despite the EC’s decline.

The exercise was on the back of widespread allegation of irregularities that could jeopardise the fairness of the election.

However, Mr Amankwa on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, stressed that, it was unnecessary, especially when the NDC has failed to comply with the EC’s request for evidence.

“It seems the NDC has been overtaken by events because when they first raised these issues, the EC assured it will be corrected through the exhibition exercise.

Now, the EC is asking for evidence to help resolve outstanding issues but you have refused. Ghana is not a banana republic and it will not collapse because the demands of some people are not being met,” he cautioned.

He expressed gratitude to God for helping the latter secure a spot in the top five.

“We are grateful to God that the plot of some people proved futile. There’s no humiliation. What happened on Saturday was Bawumia’s forum,” he said on Accra-based Neat FM.

He explained that just like some teams qualify for competitions in football with small points and emerge victorious, Alan Cash, as he is popularly known, will shock during the presidential primaries.

The former Manhyia North Member of Parliament (MP) was optimistic Mr Kyerematen will be elected flagbearer of the governing party on November 4 by the grassroots delegates.

With a total vote of 10.82% from all 17 centres, per the provisional result, Mr Kyerematen placed third, coming after Kennedy Agyapong with 15.03% and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
