Tuchel was relieved of his duties after Tuesday night’s Champions League defeat by Dinamo Zagreb.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris St-Germain boss leaves Stamford Bridge after 20 months.

Many Chelsea fans are quite disappointed at the turn of events with few games into the season after huge summer transfer spending by new owner Todd Boehly.

Tuchel becomes the second EPL manager to be sacked this season after Bournemouth’s Scott Parker.

I have unfinished business – Aubameyang after joining Chelsea http://34.58.148.58/i-have-unfinished-business-aubameyang-after-joining-chelsea/ Fri, 02 Sep 2022 09:02:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2157868 Chelsea have signed forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a £10.3m deal from Barcelona and Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria on loan.

Gabon striker Aubameyang, 33, scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Barca after joining the Spanish club in February from Arsenal.

Left-back Marcos Alonso has left Chelsea by mutual consent and is expected to sign for Barcelona.

Chelsea have the option to sign Zakaria on a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old Switzerland international only joined Juve from Borussia Monchengladbach in January.

When Aubameyang signed for Barca he had a buyout clause of 100m euros (£83.4m) in his contract, but has only played eight minutes this season. Barcelona have been looking to offload players after spending almost £200m on new arrivals despite being more than £1bn in debt.

The deal for Aubameyang means Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has spent £255.3m in his first transfer window since buying the club from Roman Abramovich – the highest amount any English club has spent in a single transfer window.

Aubameyang said: ‘I’m really happy. It’s an honour to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start. I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it’s good to be back and really exciting.’

He scored 92 goals in 163 games in all competitions for Arsenal, but left on a free transfer after falling out with manager Mikel Arteta.

That departure played a big part in the Gunners documentary All or Nothing.

Only four players have scored more Premier League goals than Aubameyang’s total of 68 in the period since 31 January 2018 – the date he joined Arsenal.

Aubameyang played under Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund between 2015 and 2017.

He scored 79 goals in 95 games in that time, 38 more than under any other manager.

Chelsea manager to face FA inquiry over referee comments http://34.58.148.58/chelsea-manager-to-face-fa-inquiry-over-referee-comments/ Mon, 15 Aug 2022 16:08:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2149822 The FA will investigate Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel following Sunday’s post-match comments about referee Anthony Taylor.

Tuchel was angry after Harry Kane’s equaliser six minutes into stoppage time earned Tottenham a dramatic 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The German suggested that Taylor should not referee Chelsea matches in future.

“I can assure you that the whole dressing room of us, every person thinks that,” he said.

The Blues were furious that Taylor failed to penalise Rodrigo Bentancur for a challenge on fellow midfielder Kai Havertz in the build-up to Spurs’ first equaliser.

The resulting melee led to face-to-face fury between the two managers which ended with Tuchel and his opposite number Antonio Conte receiving yellow cards.

But with tempers still running high, both men got involved in another spat at full-time and were sent off.

However, the red cards do not trigger an automatic suspension, meaning both are almost certain to be in the dug-out for next weekend’s games.

The FA will review the video footage of the incident and look at the referee’s match report before deciding on any charges. There is also a right to reply for both managers before it finally goes to a commission.

Chelsea sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £60m http://34.58.148.58/chelsea-sign-marc-cucurella-from-brighton-for-60m/ Fri, 05 Aug 2022 17:56:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2146273 Chelsea have signed Spain defender Marc Cucurella from Brighton in a deal worth more than £60m.

The 24-year-old left-back, who scored one goal in 38 games in his only season for the Seagulls, has signed a six-year contract.

“I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world,” said Cucurella.

“I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team.”

It is Brighton’s record sale, surpassing Ben White’s £50m move to Arsenal last summer.

A Barcelona academy graduate, Cucurella has won one senior cap for Spain and played for the under-23 side that won silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Last month Brighton rejected a £30m bid from champions Manchester City for Cucurella, who handed in a transfer request after City expressed an interest.

“We did not want to lose Marc, but he wanted the opportunity of playing Champions League football with a view to accelerating his progress to Spain’s World Cup squad,” said Brighton manager Graham Potter.

“He had an excellent first season in the Premier League, deservedly winning both our player of the season awards, and has been an absolute pleasure to work with over the past 12 months.”

Cucurella is the second big-money departure from Brighton this summer after midfielder Yves Bissouma joined Tottenham for £25m plus add-ons.

“Marc is an elite defender of proven Premier League quality,” said Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly.

“We continue to work on and off the pitch, and we’re delighted Marc will be a part of the present and future at Chelsea.”

This summer Chelsea have brought in England forward Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for £50m, Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £34m and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa for £20m.

They also signed 18-year-old American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina for a reported £12m from Chicago Fire, where he will remain on loan until the end of the Major League Soccer season.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has joined Brighton on a season-long loan.

The England Under-19 international spent last season on loan at Huddersfield and scored an own goal in the 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat by Nottingham Forest.

“Levi has enormous potential and has already shown his ability last season in the Championship and with England at various age group levels up to under-21s,” said Potter.

“He plays mostly at centre-back, but has also played on the left as a full-back, and he is a player who is comfortable on the ball.”

Chelsea complete signing of Koulibaly from Napoli on four-year deal http://34.58.148.58/chelsea-completes-signing-of-koulibaly-from-napoli-on-four-year-deal/ Sat, 16 Jul 2022 08:13:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2137875 Chelsea have signed centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly on a four-year deal from Serie A side Napoli.

The Senegal international, 31, joined Napoli from Genk in 2014 and made 317 appearances for the Italian side.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge follows the departures of defenders Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona, both on free transfers.

“I’m very happy to be here with this team at Chelsea,” said Koulibaly.

“It’s a big team in the world and my dream was always to play in the Premier League. Chelsea came first to get me in 2016 but we didn’t make it. Now when they came to me I accepted it because they really wanted me to come to the Premier League to play for them.

“When I spoke to my good friends Edou [Mendy] and Jorginho they made my choice easier.”

Koulibaly made his senior debut for Senegal in September 2015 and has since earned 62 caps, captaining the team to victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He becomes Chelsea’s second signing since the Todd Boehly-led takeover after Raheem Sterling joined the club in a £50m deal.

Boehly said: “Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the world’s elite defenders and we are delighted to be welcoming him to Chelsea.

“A great leader and an exemplary team player, Kalidou brings a wealth of experience and attributes that will benefit our squad and the club as a whole.”

Champions League reactions as Chelsea and Bayern get knocked out http://34.58.148.58/champions-league-reactions-as-chelsea-and-bayern-knocked-out/ Wed, 13 Apr 2022 10:30:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2104091 Chelsea’s reign as European champions came to an agonising end despite beating Real Madrid on a night of high drama at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Mason Mount’s wonderful finish and Antonio Rudiger’s powerful header wiped out Real’s 3-1 first-leg advantage and brought the quarter-final tie level in Spain’s capital.

Thomas Tuchel’s side was within sight of a spot in the semi- finals when Timo Werner’s clever finish from an angle put them ahead for the first time on aggregate but substitute Rodrygo forced extra time with a volleyed finish after a stunning pass from Luka Modric.

Karim Benzema, a hat-trick hero in the first leg at Stamford Bridge six days earlier, headed the decisive goal in the 96th minute to send Real through 5-4 on aggregate.

However, Tuchel says there are “no regrets” after holders Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in a classic clash.

“These are the kinds of defeat we can digest and swallow as we left nothing to regret out there,” said boss Tuchel.

“It was not meant to be. We were simply unlucky.”

Bayern Munich were sent crashing out of the Champions League as Samuel Chukwueze’s 88th-minute strike secured a dramatic 2-1 aggregate victory for underdogs Villarreal.

Substitute Chukwueze, finished off a rapid counter-attack when he converted Gerard Moreno’s cross to silence the Allianz Arena as Bayern were eliminated at the quarter-final stage for the second year in a row.

They will face the winner of Liverpool versus Benfica in the last four, a contest Jurgen Klopp’s side currently leads 3-1 on aggregate.

French superstar, Karim Benzema, was a germ after gifting his side a hattrick to thump the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

The visitors started the game on fire with Karim Benzema quickly putting his side two goals ahead.

The Frenchman opened the scoring in the 21st minute, latching onto Vinicius Jr’s cross to head past Edouard Mendy.

The Blues seemed shellshocked by Los Blancos’ quickfire double, but carried on in their search for a goal. Kai Havertz scored a consolation goal for the Blues to make it 2-1.

The second half started in the same fashion as the first, as Benzema took advantage of a terrible pass by Mendy to score his hat-trick and make it 3-1 to Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men did well to subdue the Blues’ constant pressure as the game ended 3-1.

Roman Abramovich: New evidence highlights corrupt deals http://34.58.148.58/roman-abramovich-new-evidence-highlights-corrupt-deals/ Tue, 15 Mar 2022 20:12:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2091440 A BBC investigation has uncovered new evidence about the corrupt deals that made Roman Abramovich’s fortune.

The Chelsea owner made billions after buying an oil company from the Russian government in a rigged auction in 1995.

Mr Abramovich paid around $250m (£190m) for Sibneft, before selling it back to the Russian government for $13bn in 2005.

His lawyers say there is no basis for alleging he has amassed very substantial wealth through criminality.

The Russian billionaire was sanctioned by the UK government last week because of his links to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Abramovich’s assets have been frozen and he has been disqualified as a director of Chelsea Football Club.

Panorama tracked down Russia’s former chief prosecutor, who investigated the deal in the 1990s.

Yuri Skuratov did not know about the secret document, but he independently confirmed many of the details about the Sibneft sale.

Mr Skuratov told the programme: “Basically, it was a fraudulent scheme, where those who took part in the privatisation formed one criminal group that allowed Abramovich and Berezovsky to trick the government and not pay the money that this company was really worth.”

The document also suggests Mr Abramovich was protected by former Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

It says law enforcement files on Mr Abramovich were moved to the Kremlin and that an investigation by Mr Skuratov was stopped by the president.

The document says: “Skuratov was preparing a criminal case for the confiscation of Sibneft on the basis of the investigation of its privatisation. The investigation was stopped by President Yeltsin … Skuratov was dismissed from his office.”

Mr Skuratov was sacked after the release of a sex tape in 1999. He says it was a stitch-up to discredit him and his investigation.

He said: “This whole thing was obviously political, because in my investigations I came very close to the family of Boris Yeltsin, including via this investigation of the Sibneft privatisation.”

Mr Abramovich remained in the Kremlin inner circle when Vladimir Putin came to power in 2000.

The document contains details of another rigged auction two years later, involving a Russian oil company called Slavneft.

Mr Abramovich formed a partnership with another firm to buy Slavneft, but a rival Chinese company was planning to bid almost twice as much.

Many powerful people – from the Kremlin to the Russian parliament – would have stood to lose out if the Chinese won the auction.

The document says that a member of the Chinese delegation was kidnapped when they arrived in Moscow for the auction.

“CNPC, Chinese company, a very strong competitor, had to withdraw from the auction after one of its representatives was kidnapped upon arrival at Moscow Airport and was released only after the company declared its withdrawal.”

The kidnapping story is backed up by independent sources who did not know about the document.

Vladimir Milov was Russia’s deputy energy minister in the run up to the Slavneft sale. He didn’t comment on the kidnapping story, but he said senior political figures had already decided that Mr Abramovich’s partnership would win the auction.

“I said, look, the Chinese want to come in and they want to pay a much bigger price. They say it doesn’t matter, shut up, none of your business. It’s already decided. Slavneft goes to Abramovich, the price is agreed. The Chinese will be dragged out somehow.”

There is no suggestion that Mr Abramovich knew anything about the kidnapping plot, or played any part in it.

His lawyers told the BBC the kidnap claim “is entirely unsubstantiated” and he has “no knowledge of such incident”.

Different factions had been fighting for control of Slavneft and there was widespread opposition to the Chinese bid.

Whatever the reason for the Chinese withdrawal, Mr Abramovich’s partnership had the only bid left on the table. And they bought Slavneft at a knockdown price.

Mr Abramovich’s lawyers say allegations of corruption in the Slavneft and Sibneft deals are false, and he denies he was protected by Mr Yeltsin.

Abramovich, who took over at Stamford Bridge back in 2003, has put the Blues on the market due to fears he could be sanctioned by the British government amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The 55-year-old will depart with every major trophy in the bag, having recently completed the set by winning the Club World Cup and Super Cup following a second Champions League triumph last season.

A host of world-class signings have inspired him to success over the years, and ahead of his Chelsea exit Sportsmail has ranked the 10 best buys of Abramovich’s tenure.

10. Claude Makelele

One of Abramovich’s first signings as Chelsea owner was Makelele, who arrived in the summer of 2003 with a lofty reputation after winning two Spanish titles and the Champions League with Real Madrid.

By the time he left Stamford Bridge five years later, the £16.8million Frenchman had made such  a lasting impression that the deep-lying midfield role he made famous in west London was named after him.

While in the ‘Makelele role’, he racked up 217 appearances for Chelsea, playing an integral part in back-to-back Premier League title wins under Jose Mourinho and also getting his hands on two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Makelele also helped the Blues reach their first Champions League final in 2008, where they suffered an agonising penalty shootout defeat by Manchester United, before leaving to bring the curtain down on his legendary career at Paris Saint-Germain.

9.  Joe Cole

After bursting onto the scene with boyhood side West Ham and emerging as one of the country’s most talented youngsters, the tricky winger earned himself a £6.6million move to their London rivals in 2003.

In the end that fee proved a bargain for Abramovich, as Cole went on to cement a legacy as a modern-day Chelsea icon in his seven years at the Bridge.

His numbers may not have been breathtaking, registering just 40 goals and 42 assists in 281 matches, but it goes without saying that he was a pivotal member of league-winning sides under Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.

Cole was on hand with several important goals for both managers, including a couple of key strikes in title-race encounters with Manchester United.

8.  Branislav Ivanovic

In January 2008 Abramovich forked out £10million to prise Ivanovic away from Lokomotiv Moscow in what was the most expensive transfer in Russian football history at the time.

Given he was not the biggest of names, and his arrival at the Bridge went fairly under the radar, not many would have envisaged the Serbian defender going on to become a Chelsea legend. But that’s exactly what he did.

In nine years with the Blues, Ivanovic made 377 appearances, chipped in with 34 goals and helped them clinch three Premier League titles, as many FA Cups, the League Cup, Champions League and Europa League.

He was the hero in the latter triumph, too, heading home a stoppage-time winner to help Rafa Benitez’s side beat Benfica in the Amsterdam final.

7. Ricardo Carvalho

One half of arguably the greatest centre-back pairing in Premier League history, Carvalho followed Mourinho to Chelsea in 2004 fresh from winning the Champions League together at Porto.

It didn’t take the £20million defender long to adapt to English football, as very quickly he formed a rock-solid partnership with club captain John Terry.

Alongside Terry, and with Petr Cech behind them in between the sticks, Carvalho helped the Blues concede a mere 15 goals as they cruised to the title in record fashion that season. No team has ever managed to ship in fewer.

He stayed for another five years after that, making a total of 210 appearances while winning two more league titles, as many League Cups and the FA Cup before reuniting with Mourinho at Real Madrid in 2010.

6. Cesar Azpilicueta

The Spanish defender is the only player on this list to have collected every major trophy available to him at Chelsea, four of which he captained them to.

And given Abramovich only paid £7million to sign him from Marseille in 2012, he undoubtedly goes down as one of his greatest bargains as Blues owner.

After winning two Premier League titles, the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League in his first six years at the Bridge, Azpilicueta took on the captaincy in 2018 and led Chelsea to another Europa League triumph in 2019, before adding the Champions League, Super Cup to his trophy cabinet last year.

He then completed the set by picking up the Club World Cup last month.

With 461 appearances under his belt and counting, Azpilicueta has already etched his name into the Chelsea history books.

5. N’Golo Kante

Kante had just played a starring role in Leicester’s historic 2016 Premier League title success when Chelsea came calling that summer.

Six years on the high-octane Frenchman is now regarded as one of the best midfielders on the planet, and Abramovich getting him for just £32million therefore goes down as an incredible coup.

After capturing a second successive title in his debut season at Chelsea, Kante has gone on to add the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup to his collection while featuring 244 times.

There is no player as tireless and dynamic as him in world football, meaning Blues fans will be desperate for him to stay for a little while longer.

4. Ashley Cole

Another masterstroke from Abramovich and Chelsea came when they nabbed Cole, the top left-back in the Premier League at the time, from bitter rivals Arsenal in 2006.

The club may have landed themselves in hot water by allegedly ‘tapping up’ the England defender before his move, yet their decision to pay £5million and send William Gallas in the opposite direction to sign him was an inspired one.

After taking some time to settle in, Cole went on to seal legendary status at the Bridge by starring in Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and League Cup victories, while also claiming four FA Cups.

At one stage of his Blues career he was widely considered the best left-back in world football, meaning Abramovich’s player-plus-cash deal was an undoubted success.

3. Eden Hazard

Having garnered a reputation as one of the most exciting players in world football at Lille, Hazard was wanted by almost every European club worth their salt in 2012 – and to European champions Chelsea’s delight he famously revealed on Twitter that he was ‘signing for the Champions League winner’.

The rest is history.

From the get-go in west London, the £32million stars left Blues fans on the edge of their seats, with his dazzling feet, low centre of gravity, natural strength and eye for goal quickly making him a fans’ favourite.

While producing a tally of 92 goals and 110 assists, Hazard got his hands on two Premier League titles, as many Europa Leagues, the FA Cup and League Cup before securing a £130million switch to Real Madrid in 2019. At the time of his departure, he was rightfully considered the Premier League’s most talented player.

2. Petr Cech

Abramovich paid just £7million to sign the Rennes goalkeeper back in 2004, a transfer fee which is dwarfed by the seismic impact he made in 11 years as a Chelsea player.

Cech, who now works as a technical and performance advisor at the club, hit the ground running by conceding only 13 goals in his debut season, helping Mourinho’s side let in a total of 15 and storm home to Premier League glory in the process. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Over the next decade, he swept up another three titles and also won four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League, while recording the most clean sheets in Premier League history (202).

His defining night came in their 2012 Champions League final win over Bayern Munich, when he denied Arjen Robben from the penalty spot in extra-time before saving Ivica Olic and Bastien Schweinsteiger’s efforts in the resulting shootout to help crown Chelsea as European champions for the first time in their history. £7million well spent.

1. Didier Drogba

There is no room for debate about who takes the No 1 spot. While Cech’s contribution was also vital, it is Drogba whose name is synonymous with that famous night in Munich.

The Ivorian striker, signed from Marseille for £24million in 2004, had already secured legendary status long before Chelsea’s dramatic Champions League final triumph; having overcome a difficult start at the club to develop into one of the best centre-forwards in world football.

In his first and most fondly-remembered spell at the Bridge; he bagged 157 goals in 341 appearances, won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and three League Cups before finally getting his hands on the Champions League in 2012.

Drogba was the hero in their final win over Bayern; first powering home a bullet header in the dying minutes of normal time, then tucking away the winning penalty in a dramatic shootout.

After departing on that incredible high, he later returned for one more season with his beloved Blues in 2014.

Under Mourinho, who had also ventured back for his own second stint the year before, he picked up another Premier League winners’ medal while playing more of a bit-part role at the age of 35.

Abramovich unable to sell Chelsea as UK government freezes Russian’s assets http://34.58.148.58/abramovich-unable-to-sell-chelsea-as-uk-government-freezes-russians-assets/ Thu, 10 Mar 2022 09:34:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2089563 Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government as part of attempts to crackdown on wealthy Russians with assets in the country.

The Chelsea Football Club owner is one of seven more Russian oligarchs who have had sanctions placed on them by ministers on Thursday.

Last week, Mr Abramovich announced that he intends to sell Chelsea after almost 20 years of ownership, with net proceeds from the sale to be donated to “all victims of the war in Ukraine”.

In a statement, he said the decision is “in the best interest of the club” amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The sanctions will come into force before the sale of the football club, estimated to be worth around £3bn, is able to take place.Advertisement

Mr Abramovich will have his assets frozen under the move and will also face a prohibition on transactions with UK individuals and businesses and a travel ban.

Boris Johnson said: “There can be no safe havens for those who have supported Putin’s vicious assault on Ukraine.

“Today’s sanctions are the latest step in the UK’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, destruction of hospitals and illegal occupation of sovereign allies.”

The other six Russian oligarchs are:

• Oleg Deripaska, who has stakes in En+ Group

• Igor Sechin, chief executive of Rosneft

• Andrey Kostin, chairman of VTB bank

• Alexei Miller, CEO of energy company Gazprom

• Nikolai Tokarev, president of the Russia state-owned pipeline company Transneft

• Dmitri Lebedev, chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Rossiya

The government has now sanctioned over 200 individuals and entities.
