Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, has provided an update on accusations by Nigerian actress Bimbo Ademoye regarding alleged piracy of her movie in Ghana.

Speaking on Hitz FM, Kafui Danku revealed that Bimbo Ademoye failed to provide concrete evidence to substantiate her claims. “We were ready to resolve the matter and even reached out to her for proof so the issue could be officially addressed. However, we were met with a ridiculous response that whoever sent her the message did so in disappearing mode,” she explained.

Without concrete evidence, the NFA was forced to stall the process. Kafui Danku also highlighted that the Film Authority works in collaboration with other bodies, including the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Ministry of Communications, to tackle piracy, which often prolongs investigations.

“Some of the TV stations engaged in these breaches can’t even be located, and most are not mainstream,” she noted.

The piracy conversation resurfaced after Nigerian actor Nosa Rex went on a social media rant using unprintable words against Ghanaians and the entertainment industry over alleged piracy of his film.

Kafui Danku condemned the outburst, stating it was unfortunate for actors to attack an entire country without evidence.

“Other filmmakers follow due process by contacting the NFA directly with evidence. Nosa choosing to insult the country instead of using the right process makes some of us not even willing to act on their behalf,” she added, urging patience as the authority continues to clamp down on offenders.

This comes after Bimbo Ademoye shared her frustrations on Instagram, tagging the officials to intervene.

George has acknowledged Bimbo Ademoye’s concerns, stating that he will engage with his colleague in charge of TV content to address the unauthorized broadcast of her movies.

He assured that the government is committed to upholding intellectual property laws in Ghana.

“My attention has been drawn to your post, thanks to the tag. I would be raising the issue with my colleague minister responsible for overseeing television content.

“I, however, wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same. I believe Ghana and Nigeria have so much we can continue to collaborate on for our mutual benefit,” he wrote.

Kafui Danku chimed in, assuring Bimbo Ademoye that urgent action is being taken to address the copyright infringement issue.

“Hi ma’am, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” she noted.

This is not the first time a Nigerian creative has raised concerns about Ghanaian television stations showing their movies without a license. (Related article: Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli calls out Ghanaian TV stations for airing her films without a license)

In September 2023, popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri issued a stern warning to Ghanaian television stations airing her content without proper authorization.

The renowned actress also announced her intentions to pursue legal action against offenders.

Last month, renowned Nigerian actress Omoni Oboli took to social media to express her outrage and disappointment at Ghanaian TV stations for broadcasting her movies without obtaining the necessary legal permission.

In a strongly-worded post on her Instagram page, Oboli condemned the unauthorized airing of her films and criticized the Ghana National Film Authority for its inaction in addressing the issue.

Bimbo Ademoye’s outburst has opened up the conversation on copyright issues, with the likes of Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim also sharing their opinions over the unfortunate trend.

Don’t put my movies on your channels – Bimbo Ademoye warns Ghanaian stations http://34.58.148.58/dont-put-my-movies-on-your-channels-bimbo-ademoye-warns-ghanaian-stations/ Tue, 22 Apr 2025 12:21:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2527444

Nigerian actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye has issued a stern warning to Ghanaian television stations against airing her movies without her consent.

In a strongly-worded message shared on social media, Bimbo expressed her frustration over the unauthorized use of her creative works and thumbnails.

“PSA!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! I hate that I have to do this, but my blood, sweat, tears, hard work, money, and sleepless nights will not be enjoyed by someone else! As it is now, there are already two channels that have stolen my title and my poster for about two to three days now — they’re Nollynew Series TV and Nolly Specials. (Guys, please help me report their channels). It is very unfair that we’d work day and night, and one evil demon would come and reap where they didn’t sow. This time I will not take it,” she wrote.

The actress made it clear that she has not authorized any individual or platform in Ghana to broadcast her productions.

She emphasized that while she had previously considered a more collaborative approach, the continued disregard for intellectual property rights has pushed her to adopt a firmer stance.

“You lift my films and put them on your channels — have I given you permission? Initially, I was considering talking to management, striking a revenue split deal or other negotiations. But on second thought, no. Don’t put my movies up.”

She added that if she has to petition the office of President Mahama to eradicate the canker, she would.

Bimbo Ademoye joins a growing list of African filmmakers taking a stand against copyright infringement and the unauthorized distribution of their work across borders.

She follows in the footsteps of fellow Nollywood stars Ruth Kadiri and Omoni Oboli, who also recently raised similar concerns.
