GHPL top goalscorer quits football over Black Stars snub http://34.58.148.58/ghpl-top-goalscorer-quits-football-over-black-stars-snub/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 13:07:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2293281 Bibiani Gold Stars striker, Abednego Tetteh has quit football temporarily over a consistent Black Stars snub.

Despite ending last season as the top scorer in the Ghana Premier League last season, Tetteh has not been called up by the technical handlers of the Black Stars.

Hafiz Konkoni, formerly of Bechem United and Medeama’s Jonathan Sowah were picked ahead of the 32-year-old.

The former Bechem United striker was not invited for the Central African Republic (CAR) game and the international friendly game against Liberia.

“I won the goal king award but I am very sad. It is the vision of any footballer to do well and earn praise for his hard work but in my case, it is not like that. I am very, very sad and I know many people are sad too. For a football nation like Ghana, the goal king of the league is consistently not given a national call-up but players behind him are invited to the national team,” Tetteh said on Fox FM.

“They first called a different striker (Hafiz Wontah of Bechem United) and then for the second time another player that I scored more goals than is called (Jonathan Sowah). What have I done wrong to the GFA people? ” he quizzed.

“Even look at the GFA awards, all the top scorers of the various leagues won the best player of that league but in my case, I was not given the best player award despite being the top scorer of the league season. Have I offended anyone at the GFA? I really do not understand what is going on.

“Right now I am in the house, I am not playing for any club this season. I will not even play football again for now. It is better to stay in the house. They have started pre-season but I am in the house, I am not playing again for now.”

Chris Hughton, who is the head coach of the Black Stars, invited an initial 24 players to begin camping for the game against Madagascar, which is set for June 18, 2023.

Bechem United striker, Hafiz Konkoni was handed a late call-up to join the team. He remains the only local player in the squad.

Despite his strong showing, Tetteh, who scored 18 goals to emerge as the top scorer of the just-ended Ghana Premier League, was not called up ahead of the qualifications.

Reacting to the omission of his name in the final squad, Abednego Tetteh, said, “I’m a human, I feel bad but I can’t do anything about it so I just have to wish them well against Madagascar. We will support them to deliver against Madagascar,” he told Bryt FM.

Tetteh’s performance powered Bibiani Gold Stars to a remarkable fifth-place finish.

We don’t play fixed matches – Bibiani Gold Stars CEO http://34.58.148.58/we-dont-play-fixed-matches-bibiani-gold-stars-ceo/ Wed, 29 Jun 2022 16:06:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2132202 Chief Executive Officer [CEO] of Bibiani Gold Stars, Kwasi Adu, has responded to the match-fixing claims leveled against his club by Deputy AshantiGold SC Chief Executive Officer [CEO], Albert Commey.

Mr Commey, who is a veteran Ghanaian football administrator, alleged four games in the Ghana Premier League were fixed on the final day of the 2021/22 season in order to ensure the survival of several relegation-threatened clubs in the league, while also citing there was a manipulation in the game between Bibiani Gold Stars and AshGold.

In an interview with Space FM, the former Aduana Stars CEO said games between Hearts of Oak and Real Tamale United, Eleven Wonders and Aduana Stars, and the match between King Faisal and Legon Cities were the other games to be fixed.

In response to Commey’s charges, Adu dismissed them as a joke and challenged the former Aduana Stars executive to present evidence for his claims.

“He [Albert Commey] is a joker… How can he involve Goldstars in such baseless allegations? We don’t fix matches here. He is a good friend and a brother but his comment was infantry. I was never expecting his caliber to make such allegations”, Kwasi Adu said on Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio/TV.

“Yaw Annor played extraordinarily and scored two beautiful goals same as ours and has nothing to do with match-fixing… I don’t engage in such funny jokes.

“We are expecting the Ethics Committee to invite him for interrogations. It’s possible we may take him on for this distasteful comment,” Adu added when quizzed about Gold Stars taking legal actions against Commey.

Meanwhile, the GFA has invited Ashanti Gold Deputy CEO Albert Commey to assist in investigations into his allegations.

FA should be reasonable and postpone our game – Hearts of Oak team manager http://34.58.148.58/fa-should-be-reasonable-and-postpone-our-game-hearts-team-manager/ Wed, 18 May 2022 16:22:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2115851 Team Manager of Hearts of Oak, W.O. Paul Tandoh, has confirmed that the club cannot raise a team to honour their Ghana Premier League fixture against Bibiani Gold Stars which takes place today, the 18th of May, 2022.

Hearts of Oak’s squad has been depleted following reports of an outbreak in the team’s camp.

According to multiple reports, close to 15 players have been hospitalised over a strange sickness and there is no sign that players could recover in time for the game.

Speaking in an interview with Happy FM, Tandoh said, “The FA should be reasonable and postpone our game”.

“We don’t have a single player who will even appear on the pitch for the game. The FA should do their investigations well. We don’t have a team. Sulley Muntari, Samuel Inkoom, they are all sick and these are our stars. The coach has also developed symptoms and is currently at the 37 Military Hospital.”

“I have been roaming in Accra to check on the players at their various hospitals where they have been hospitalized” he added.

The team manager of the Accra-based club said only three members of the technical team have not been affected by the outbreak.

With Bibiani God Stars arriving in the capital for their away fixture, it is looking increasingly likely that Hearts of Oak may be punished by the Ghana Football Association, should they fail to play the game on May 18, 2022.
