Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Opoku Prempeh explained that under Ghana’s constitutional framework, executive decision-making authority lies with the President, not the Vice President.

He noted that although Dr. Bawumia served for eight years as head of the Economic Management Team, he could not independently take final decisions, as such authority remained the prerogative of the President.

According to Dr. Opoku Prempeh, it is therefore unfair to suggest that Dr. Bawumia cannot make decisions, stressing that he has never occupied the presidency to be assessed in that capacity.

He added that several ideas championed by Dr. Bawumia, particularly in innovation and digital transformation, continue to sustain government operations.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh argued that leadership in the 21st century is driven by ideas and innovation—qualities he said Dr. Bawumia has consistently demonstrated.

He further maintained that Dr. Bawumia should be given the opportunity to be tested before any conclusions are drawn about his leadership strength.

Bawumia did not run away from the economy; digitalisation shift was strategic – Napo http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-did-not-run-away-from-the-economy-digitalisation-shift-was-strategic-napo/ Thu, 29 Jan 2026 19:07:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2625325 The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has dismissed claims that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia abandoned economic matters during the latter years of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Opoku Prempeh explained that while Dr. Bawumia was deeply involved in economic issues during the government’s first four years, his shift towards digitalisation in the second term was a deliberate strategy to support the economy through alternative means.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia did not shy away from economic responsibility but rather adapted to circumstances where direct control over economic management may no longer have been within his remit.

“Even during COVID-19, Ghana’s economy was one of the best managed. So what went wrong? Perhaps the economic challenges were not directly attributed to Bawumia during President Akufo-Addo’s second term,” he stated.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh further referenced the period when 88 NPP Members of Parliament publicly raised concerns about the state of the economy and called for the dismissal of some government officials.

“When the 88 MPs from the NPP said the economy was not performing well and called for dismissals, Bawumia was present, yet they mentioned someone else’s name instead of his. If he was directly responsible for the economic situation, why wasn’t his name mentioned?” he asked.

He added that while he did not oppose the public nature of the MPs’ action, he would have supported the dismissal of the individual named if the decision had been subjected to a private vote.

“The fact that 88 MPs made that statement should tell us something important. Bawumia spoke extensively about the economy in the first four years, but in the last four years, he focused mainly on digitalisation. It was not an attempt to evade responsibility; perhaps economic management was no longer within his direct control, so he explored other avenues to support economic growth,” he concluded.

Bawumia offers 21st century solutions – Opoku Prempeh http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-offers-21st-century-solutions-opoku-prempeh/ Thu, 29 Jan 2026 16:40:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2625288 The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s most marketable and competent presidential candidate.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Opoku Prempeh praised Dr. Bawumia’s forward-looking ideas, noting that they are well-suited for the challenges of the 21st century.

“My support for Bawumia is based on competence, experience, and track record. No first-time presidential candidate from the NPP has demonstrated such depth,” he said. “Ghanaians believe that the NPP is the only party capable of fixing the country’s challenges and making Ghana better. That is one of the reasons I support Bawumia.”

Dr. Opoku Prempeh described the former Vice President as “an apprentice who has become a master,” highlighting his rise through the ranks and his deep understanding of governance at every level.

He also pointed to Dr. Bawumia’s intellect, visibility, and policy initiatives, particularly in the area of digitalisation, emphasizing that his programmes have already delivered tangible impacts.

“He embodies the idea of an apprentice who has become a master. He has worked through the ranks and is currently the most appealing and recognizable candidate. Bawumia possesses the knowledge and intellect needed for leadership. Even before becoming president, he rolled out numerous initiatives, and his focus on technology is already transforming the country. He represents our best chance for the future with ideas that are suited for the 21st century,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh added.

Manasseh Azure Awuni writes: 7 factors that favour Bawumia as the best to lead NPP http://34.58.148.58/manasseh-azure-awuni-writes-7-factors-that-favour-bawumia-as-the-best-to-lead-npp/ Thu, 29 Jan 2026 15:29:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2625264 1. Tested and Most Marketed

If you are going into an electoral battle, it pays to present a candidate who has tried, tested, and marketed, a candidate who already has a formidable foothold from which the party can consolidate its gains.

In the current race, Bawumia’s closest contender is Kennedy Agyapong, who contested the 2023 primaries and lost to Dr Bawumia. In the 2024 general elections, the NPP lost both the presidential and parliamentary elections in Kennedy Agyapong’s home constituency and home region, Assin Central Constituency and the Central Region.

Dr Bawumia, after what many believe is the worst performance by a government in Ghana’s recent history, won almost 5 million votes, representing about 42% of the national vote in the 2024 presidential election. (The exact figure is 4,877,611 of the valid votes cast, representing 41.75%.)

While Dr Bawumia won 42% of the presidential votes, the NPP won 32% of parliamentary seats. These figures show that the NPP’s defeat in 2024 represented a rejection of the party, not just the candidate.

Dr Bawumia’s home region, the North East Region, was the only region in Northern Ghana that the NPP won the presidential election and did not have minority parliamentary seats.

Dr Bawumia’s candidature lacked the goodwill that Akufo-Addo’s inherited from the Kufuor administration. Anger against the Akufo-Addo administration was mounting, and whoever contested on the NPP ticket was bound to face the wrath of voters.

If anyone is closer to winning power for the NPP, either in 2028 or 2032, Dr Bawumia stands tall among the current cast of untested hands.

2. The NPP’s Unity and Ghana’s Interest

In the Bible, we are told the story of a wise King named Solomon. In the illustration of his infinite wisdom, we are told that two women fought over the ownership of a child and ended up in King Solomon’s court. Solomon suggested that the child be cut in two so that each woman would take half. One woman agreed, but the other would rather have the child go to the other claimant than be cut in two. King Solomon said the child should be given to the one who wanted the child to live.

The unity of the NPP is under threat. And it is so because some people who want to lead the party operate with the mantra of “it is either I get it, or I destroy it.”

But in this race, there is a man who has demonstrated that when it matters most, he would put the collective interest above his personal interest. When tensions in the 2024 elections threatened to spill over, Dr Bawumia stepped up and defused them. He conceded defeat even before the Electoral Commission declared the presidential results for the first constituency. Some in his party still hold that early concession as one of his cardinal sins.

This demonstrable act of bravery, a strength of character, puts him ahead of the pack as someone the NPP can trust to hold the party together. The NPP needs a level-headed unifier, and Dr Bawumia towers above the rest in this regard.

3. A sacrificial Lamb Who Paid His Dues

Some critics of Dr Bawumia have pointed out that he is an outsider to the NPP. Apart from the fact that he is the only non-Akan in the race to lead a party described by its opponents as an “Akan party,” Dr Bawumia can’t be said to be an outsider.

When Dr Bawumia was the NPP’s running mate, Freddy Blay was still a CPP Member of Parliament for Elembele. So if Mr Blay could become the NPP’s National Chairman in 2015, why should Dr Bawumia still wear the outsider tag in 2026?

When the NPP contested the 2012 presidential election results in court, Dr. was the sacrificial lamb who testified and was cross-examined live on television. As someone with future political ambitions, agreeing to testify live on national TV could have been suicidal.

In 2016, Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira, campaigned like donkeys for the NPP. They took the vicious attacks from their opponents, giving the presidential candidate the much-needed shield.

Today, many people call Bawumia a liar because he was the face of the 2016 election campaign and its promises. The unfulfilled promises have been hung on his neck, and some within his party have joined the opposition to taunt him.

But he was not the only beneficiary of the 2016 victory. As a result of that victory, some became ministers of state, and others landed other juicy appointments. Some got juicy government contracts worth billions of cedis, while others are in parliament today because they were appointed after the 2016 election victory, which enhanced their chances and allowed them to contest.

A major and known architect of that victory should not be denied the chance to lead because some people suddenly think he is an outsider. He has paid his dues.

4. History and Pattern Favour Bawumia

Since Ghana returned to Multiparty democracy in 1992, no party has served more than two 8-year terms, so the NPP losing an election after eight years cannot be reduced solely to the candidate.

The NPP lost in 1992 and 1996 before winning in 2000.

President Atta Mills, who led the NDC after Rawlings’ eight years in power as a democratically elected president, lost in 2000. He again lost in 2004. And in 2008, he won.

President Akufo-Addo lost in 2008. He lost again in 2012 before winning on his third attempt in 2016.

President Mahama, who completed the NDC’s two-term cycle, lost in 2016. He lost again in 2020 before winning in 2024.

The NPP said after 2016 that John Mahama, who had lost miserably, could never become President. They said the NDC could only win if they presented someone else. Today, who is the president?

Dr Bawumia is in good company and is on a good trajectory. He has almost 5 million votes to build from in his subsequent contests as the NPP’s flagbearer.

5. Sins of the Last NPP Administration

A major case against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature has been that, as vice president and chairman of the Economic Management Team, he failed. Ghana’s economy collapsed.

Taxes, levies, reckless borrowing and spending imposed hardship on Ghanaians. So, what did voters do? They punished the NPP at the polls, both presidential and parliamentary
Hardship from the poor economy and taxes such as the E-Levy angered many Ghanaian voters.

As a member of the administration, Dr Bawumia cannot escape collective responsibility for its failures.

But if you look at the NPP flagbearer contenders, you will see names like Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum. These three contenders were in parliament. And in some cases, they had more influence than Bawumia, who could not have vetoed the economic decisions of Akufo-Addo’s cabinet. This may sound outrageous, but let’s break it down.

In the last parliament, when the E-Levy was passed, the NDC had 137 MPs, and the Majority NPP had 138.

If Kennedy Agyapong alone had voted against the E-Levy, it would not have been passed. If Bryan Acheampong alone voted against the E-Levy, it would not have passed. If Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum alone had voted against the E-Levy, it would not have been passed.

These MPs, some of whom blame Dr Bawumia for the economic failure, approved the Finance Minister’s loans and expenditure. Ken Ofori-Atta could not spend, borrow, or pass any tax without the MPs’ approval. In the second term, especially, just one of the MPs could have made a difference.

The only candidate who could be spared the sins of the last administration is Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The remaining three may be guiltier than Dr Bawumia in some circumstances.

6. Akufo-Addo’s Puppet Tag

In past primaries and elections, one criticism of Dr Bawumia was that voting for him would extend the Akufo-Addo dynasty.

Professor Atta Mills didn’t become Rawlings’ puppet, so that assumption does not always hold. And if the information I have is correct, President Akufo-Addo has adopted a more neutral posture in this race, as opposed to the past, when he was clearly backing Dr Bawumia. Internal sources say there is more to this. And those who say Bawumia cannot be his own man as president may be clutching at broken straws.

7. Coherence in Messaging
Among the candidates vying for the NPP’s candidature, Dr Bawumia has presented the most coherent campaign message so far. Like everyone else, some of the promises attributed to him are untenable, but if compared to his contenders, none of them come close to what he presented in the last primaries, the last election and even in this campaign.

Dr Bawumia combines unifying leadership, tangible delivery in office, and a reformist outlook well-suited to today’s economic and technological challenges.

In his 2026 New Year message, Dr Bawumia called on Ghanaians and NPP members to embrace unity, protect democratic institutions, and pursue inclusive leadership. He warned that politicisation and weakened institutions erode public trust. Within the party, he consistently champions discipline and service-driven politics, urging members to prioritise ideas and vision over personal attacks.

Digital Transformation and Economic Management

As Vice President, Dr Bawumia has been a principal architect of Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. Key initiatives include:

  • National biometric ID (Ghana Card) and digital address system: Central to accessing healthcare, education, banking, and social support.
  • Mobile Money Interoperability and universal QR payments: Allow seamless transfers between mobile platforms and bank accounts.
  • Medical drone delivery, NHIS mobile renewal, and e-pharmacy platforms: Improve access to health services and price transparency for approximately 2,000 facilities.

These initiatives have expanded financial inclusion to tens of millions and demonstrate Dr Bawumia’s commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive development.

He has also played a central role in economic stabilisation measures, including Gold‑for‑Reserves initiatives, aimed at easing foreign exchange pressures, protecting reserves, and supporting balance-of-payments resilience—reflecting his readiness to deploy innovative tools in response to external shocks.

Leadership Style and Electoral Strength

Dr Bawumia’s measured, data-driven, and inclusive leadership aligns with the NPP’s democratic traditions, appealing to youth, professionals, and undecided voters. Commentators frequently cite his emphasis on evidence-based governance, transparency, and accountability as hallmarks of ethical leadership.

His record as a two-term Vice President, coupled with cross-regional acceptance and reformist credentials, positions the NPP for unity, competitiveness, and credible governance. For a party committed to protecting Ghana’s democratic gains while navigating complex economic and technological challenges, Dr Bawumia is the best-equipped candidate.

Partnership with the Diaspora

Dr Bawumia recognises the diaspora as a vital partner in national development. His campaign has established a dedicated diaspora coordination effort, reflecting his intent to harness the skills and ideas of Ghanaians abroad in shaping policy and governance. He has pledged to welcome all Ghanaians, regardless of primary alignments, to work toward a shared national vision.

Why DPIL Supports Dr Bawumia

DPIL–UK endorses Dr Mahamudu Bawumia because he:

  • Champions unity and institutional strength through peace, discipline, and service-driven leadership.

  • Actively engages the diaspora as a key partner in Ghana’s transformation.

We urge NPP delegates and all Ghanaians to reflect on his record, engage in constructive dialogue, and participate fully in the democratic process. Our support is rooted in a hope for leadership that unites, empowers, and advances Ghana for all her people, wherever they may be.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Nyindam praised Dr. Bawumia for the personal support he received during the legal battle over his parliamentary seat, describing him as a brother who stood by him throughout the ordeal.

“People have said many things about others in the past, yet they still went on to become presidents. So obviously, Bawumia can also be given an equal opportunity and become President of the Republic of Ghana,” he said.

According to the Kpandai MP, Dr. Bawumia consistently checked on his welfare and offered assistance during the court process, which he described as a difficult period in his political career.

Mr. Nyindam also disclosed that while former Minister Bryan Acheampong initially reached out when the case began, he did not hear from him again. He added that Dr. Bawumia’s support remained constant from start to finish.

He further stated that Dr. Bawumia’s show of solidarity and leadership qualities make him deserving of the presidency.

Bawumia wraps up nationwide tour, projects confidence ahead of January 31 NPP primaries http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-wraps-up-nationwide-tour-projects-confidence-ahead-of-january-31-npp-primaries/ Wed, 28 Jan 2026 07:51:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2624511 It was barely ten months after an election defeat he had been confident of winning.

The loss in the 2024 general elections left the New Patriotic Party (NPP) bruised and uncertain. Many party faithful were disheartened, still processing the reality of opposition after eight years in government.

Yet, with urgency defining the moment, the party’s National Council adopted an early rebuilding strategy—electing a presidential flagbearer first, even before the wounds of defeat had fully healed.

For former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the decision meant there was no room to pause.

He dusted himself off and returned to the road.

An Early Start to a Relentless Journey

On October 15, 2025, Dr. Bawumia launched his nationwide campaign from Sene East in the Bono East Region, beginning what would become one of the most extensive grassroots tours in the Fourth Republic.

The campaign, christened Our Journey Together, took him to all 276 constituencies, with only brief breaks to attend national and state functions in his capacity as a former Vice President and statesman.

The objective was clear: reconnect with the party base, listen to concerns at the grassroots, and rebuild confidence from the ground up.

Reflection, Unity, and Honest Conversations

Unlike conventional internal campaigns, Our Journey Together was defined by honest reflection rather than recrimination.

At virtually every stop, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the party’s loss of more than two million votes compared to 2020, attributing the defeat largely to economic hardship and voter disaffection. He insisted the loss was collective and cautioned against internal blame.

His message was consistent: the NPP’s recovery depends on unity, humility, and better organisation.

Grassroots Welfare at the Centre of the Campaign

A defining pillar of Our Journey Together was grassroots welfare—an issue Dr. Bawumia elevated across regions.

He repeatedly assured party executives, polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, and foot soldiers that their welfare would be a priority under his leadership.

Dr. Bawumia pledged to:

• Prioritise the well-being of party workers who sustain the NPP at the base.
• Institutionalise regular constituency-level engagements to give grassroots members direct access to leadership.
• Ensure that the contributions of party activists are recognised and rewarded.

According to him, a party cannot be strong nationally if its base is neglected.

“Our journey must include everyone—especially those who work hardest for the party,” he told delegates during several engagements.

This message resonated deeply, especially among grassroots members who openly pledged support, saying they felt seen, heard, and valued.

Decorum and Respect as Campaign Principles

From the outset, Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team made it clear that Our Journey Together would be conducted with decorum, discipline, and respect for all aspirants.

True to that commitment, the campaign avoided personal attacks and divisive rhetoric. Dr. Bawumia consistently urged supporters to focus on ideas, experience, and unity, stressing that the party’s internal cohesion would be critical in winning the 2028 general elections.

Experience, Sacrifice, and Ideas Over Wealth

Throughout the tour, Dr. Bawumia grounded his appeal in his long-standing service and sacrifice to the NPP.

He traced his political journey from 2008 through eight years in opposition, his role in the 2012 election petition, and eight years as Vice President.

He also highlighted policy initiatives he championed, including the Ghana Card, Mobile Money Interoperability, and Zipline medical drone delivery services, as evidence of leadership driven by innovation rather than excess spending.

“It is not the money in your pocket that will transform Ghana; it is the ideas in your head,” he reiterated.

Growing Momentum Nationwide

As the tour progressed, Our Journey Together gathered visible momentum.

Across Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Western, Eastern, Northern, Oti, Greater Accra, and Ashanti regions, party executives, grassroots organisers, MPs, and former party officials publicly declared their support.

Many projected commanding margins in his favour, while several former supporters of rival aspirants defected to his camp, citing conviction and confidence in his leadership.

Wrapping Up the Journey, Eyes on January 31

Dr. Bawumia wrapped up the Our Journey Together campaign on Tuesday in the Ashanti Region, thanking party members nationwide for their reception and urging delegates to approach the presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with calm, unity, and discipline.

He pledged to immediately bring all factions together after the primaries and refocus the party on rebuilding, renewal, and victory in 2028.

After a painful defeat—and with little time to heal—Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s response was not retreat, but resolve: a demanding nationwide campaign anchored on unity, grassroots welfare, and shared purpose.

As delegates prepare to vote, Our Journey Together closes having reinforced a simple message—the NPP’s future will be built together, or not at all.

Ten promises, one clear path: Dr. Bawumia’s agenda for Ghana prioritizes everyday challenges over empty rhetoric http://34.58.148.58/ten-promises-one-clear-path-dr-bawumias-agenda-for-ghana-prioritizes-everyday-challenges-over-empty-rhetoric/ Sun, 25 Jan 2026 18:46:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2623460 Ghana stands at a crossroads. For decades, leaders have spoken of change. They have promised transformation. Yet families still struggle. Prices rise. Services fail. Opportunities remain scarce. The choice before us is simple: continue with empty promises, or act on real priorities.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ten thematic promises are not slogans. They are practical steps. They are designed to meet the urgent needs of everyday Ghanaians. His vision is clear: jobs, fairness, and stability.

Jobs and Livelihoods

Employment is the foundation of dignity. Without work, families cannot plan. Without income, dreams collapse. Dr. Bawumia has made job creation his top priority. Young people deserve meaningful work. They deserve fair wages. They deserve prospects for growth. Families need reliable incomes to secure their futures. His plan is straightforward: open diverse opportunities so every Ghanaian, regardless of background, can earn a stable living.

This is not theory. It is necessity. Ghana’s youth are restless. They want jobs, not speeches. They want careers, not handouts. Winning with Bawumia means a decisive commitment to job creation. It means building industries, supporting entrepreneurs, and ensuring that work pays.

Equity and Transparency

Support must be fair. Party members, private enterprises, and ordinary citizens deserve equal treatment. Transparent systems are the key. Dr. Bawumia has pledged to use direct methods such as MoMo payments to ensure benefits reach the right people—no delays, no favoritism.

This is about trust. For too long, institutions have failed. People doubt the fairness of support. They suspect bias. They see corruption. Transparency restores confidence. It assures citizens that the government works for them, not for a select few.

Food and Agriculture

Food prices are rising beyond the reach of many households. Families are squeezed. Farmers are under pressure. Dr. Bawumia’s plan is to modernize and expand agriculture—empowering farmers, equipping them with tools, and supporting them with markets.

Cheaper food strengthens families. It stabilizes the economy. Agriculture is not just about feeding the nation; it is about building resilience. It is about ensuring that Ghana can stand on its own. Modern farming means lower costs, higher yields, and stronger communities.

Reliable Energy

Electricity is not negotiable. Families need it. Businesses depend on it. Schools and hospitals cannot function without it. Yet outages continue. Bills rise. Confidence falls.

Dr. Bawumia’s focus is clear: expand solar power, invest in local solar manufacturing, reduce costs, and minimize outages. Reliable energy is the backbone of progress. Without it, industries stall. With it, Ghana can grow.

This is not about luxury. It is about survival. Families deserve dependable power. Businesses deserve stability. Solar expansion is the path forward.

Transport and Clean Energy

Public transport must change. It must be affordable. It must be reliable. It must be modern. Today, commuting is costly and frustrating. Roads are congested. Vehicles are outdated.

Dr. Bawumia’s commitment is to integrate electric vehicles and buses—cleaner transport, cheaper fares, and reliable systems. This is about dignity in daily life. It is about sustainability for the future. Efficient transport networks lift communities. They connect people to jobs, schools, and opportunities.

Private Sector Growth

Government waste drains resources. Funds are misused. Projects stall. Citizens suffer. Cutting waste frees money for what matters.

Dr. Bawumia’s approach is to empower the private sector. Entrepreneurs drive growth. Businesses create jobs. Communities thrive when the private sector is strong. Ghana’s future depends on entrepreneurs who can innovate, expand, and succeed.

This is not about slogans. It is about action. Cutting waste is discipline. Empowering business is vision. Together, they build prosperity.

Fair Taxes

Taxes should be simple. They should be predictable. Citizens should know what they owe. They should pay without confusion.

Dr. Bawumia’s plan is a flat tax system—clear payments, fair obligations. Transparency in taxation builds trust. It ensures that government revenue is collected without burdening citizens with complexity.

Business Recovery

Businesses are struggling. Economic conditions are harsh. Many cannot survive. They need support.

Dr. Bawumia has promised a tax amnesty. This will allow businesses to recover. It will help them comply. It will give them space to grow. Strong businesses mean a stronger economy. Entrepreneurs must be supported, not suffocated.

Predictable Prices

Imported goods are essential. Families rely on them. Businesses depend on them. Yet prices fluctuate wildly. Planning becomes impossible.

Dr. Bawumia’s solution is a flat-rate import duty system—to stabilize costs, give families confidence, and allow businesses to plan ahead. Predictability is survival. It is the difference between chaos and stability.

Access to Credit

Cash and credit should not be out of reach. Yet many Ghanaians struggle to access funds. Businesses cannot expand. Families cannot invest.

Dr. Bawumia’s plan is to establish a national credit scoring system. This will empower individuals and businesses. It will make credit accessible. It will open doors to investment and growth.

Access to financial resources is not a privilege. It is a right. It is the foundation of opportunity.

The Choice before Us

Ghana cannot afford delays. Students are waiting. Workers are waiting. Farmers are waiting. Entrepreneurs are waiting. They demand solutions that touch their lives.

Winning with Bawumia means prioritizing jobs, food security, reliable energy, efficient transport, and fairness. It means acting on priorities, not repeating promises.

This is not about politics. It is about people. It is about families who cannot afford food. It is about workers who cannot find jobs. It is about businesses that cannot grow.

On January 31, 2026, delegates have a choice. They can choose a leader who puts everyday Ghanaians first. They can choose priorities over promises.

Dr. Bawumia’s vision is straightforward: jobs, fairness, and stability. These are not slogans. They are commitments. They are the foundation of progress.

Ghana stands at a crossroads. The path forward is clear. Let us win with Bawumia — and let Ghana win with us.

Bawumia tipped to win NPP primary with 57% – Global InfoAnalytics final poll http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-tipped-to-win-npp-primary-with-57-global-infoanalytics-final-poll/ Sat, 24 Jan 2026 15:46:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2623254 With only seven days remaining until the New Patriotic Party (NPP) elects its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, a new survey has placed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a commanding position to secure the mandate of the party delegates.

The final predictive model released by Global Info Analytics on Friday, January 23, 2026, suggests that the ‘Bawumia Factor’ remains the dominant force in the internal race, despite a spirited and often aggressive challenge from the grassroots maverick Kennedy Agyapong.

The poll, which is the culmination of a massive data-gathering exercise conducted between December 29, 2025, and January 23, 2026, paints a clear picture of the delegate landscape across all 16 regions.

According to the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwa, the predictive model currently stands as follows:

  • Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia: 57%
  • Kennedy Ohene Agyapong: 28%
  • Dr. Bryan Acheampong (DBA): 13%
  • Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum: 2%

To ensure a high degree of accuracy, the survey utilised computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) to reach 10,133 respondents.

The sampling was not restricted to urban centres; it spanned 272 constituencies, providing a national snapshot.

The pollsters claim an extraordinary 99.9% confidence level, with a razor-thin margin of error of ±1.57%.

For the final predictive model—which factors in historical delegate behaviour and undecided voters—the margin of error is set at ±3.0%.

The most significant shift in the January data is the rise of Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

Moving from single digits in late 2025 to 13% in the final week, the Abetifi MP and former Minister for Food and Agriculture appears to have successfully branded himself as the unity candidate.

Regional Strongholds and Battlegrounds

Global Info Analytics suggests that Dr Bawumia’s lead is anchored in a near-total sweep of the five Northern regions and a significant majority in the North East and Upper West.

However, Kennedy Agyapong continues to hold a competitive edge in parts of the Central Region and Ashanti Region, where his showdown message resonates with delegates who feel marginalised by the party’s central establishment.

NPP race: Bawumia may win, but with slimmer margin – Paul Adom-Otchere http://34.58.148.58/npp-race-bawumia-may-win-but-with-slimmer-margin-paul-adom-otchere/ Sat, 24 Jan 2026 13:44:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2623222 Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains a strong contender in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary and could still emerge as the winner on January 31, 2026, but his margin of victory may be significantly slimmer than in the previous contest, where he secured over 60 per cent of the vote.

This assessment was made by broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere, who says feedback from party delegates suggests shifting support patterns within key NPP strongholds, particularly the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on JoyNews’ NewsFile, Mr Adom-Otchere said Dr Bawumia may struggle to replicate his earlier dominance in Ashanti, where he previously polled about 66 per cent.

“Well, from what we had been gathering from delegates yesterday, I spoke to people in my constituency in Ejisu, and Bawumia had done 66% in Ashanti the last time. They don’t think he may get 66%,” he said.

He noted that rival contender Kennedy Agyapong appears to be consolidating support in regions such as the Central, Greater Accra and Volta regions, raising concerns within sections of Dr Bawumia’s camp.

“Even for my friends who are Bawumia people like Hassan Tampuli and others, they even think that Ken still has Greater Accra and Volta. That’s a concern,” Mr Adom-Otchere added.

According to him, for Dr Bawumia to secure a comfortable victory, he would need to post strong numbers in both the Ashanti and Eastern regions, which are expected to be decisive in the delegate-based election.

“Bawumia will need to pick up Ashanti heavy and pick up Eastern as well. So it is looking like if Bawumia wins — and he may win — he’s not going to achieve the 60% that he got the last time,” he said.

The NPP presidential primary is scheduled for January 31, 2026, as the party prepares to select a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections, with internal regional dynamics increasingly shaping the outcome of the contest.

NPP race: Bawumia’s vision, competence and persona not in doubt – Egyapa Mercer http://34.58.148.58/npp-race-bawumias-vision-competence-and-persona-not-in-doubt-egyapa-mercer/ Fri, 23 Jan 2026 08:45:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622769 Former Tourism Minister, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has dismissed suggestions that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s suitability to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is in question, insisting that his vision, competence, and personal integrity are beyond dispute.

Appearing on Metro TV on Thursday, January 22, Mr Mercer said Dr Bawumia has consistently demonstrated clarity of purpose and intellectual depth, both in opposition and in government.

“There is no doubt about Dr Bawumia’s vision, his competence, or his persona. These are not things up for debate. He has proven himself over time,” he said.

He explained that as former Vice President and the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia has articulated forward-looking ideas on digitalisation, economic reform, and governance that resonate with both party members and the wider electorate.

According to Mr Mercer, these qualities are precisely why a broad coalition of former party executives and parliamentary candidates have publicly endorsed Dr Bawumia’s leadership bid ahead of the 2028 elections.

Speaking on Metro TV on Thursday, January 22, Mr Mercer said the contest should not be viewed solely as a question of competence, but as a matter of who can best position the party for victory in 2028.

“All five aspirants are qualified, but Bawumia stands tall when you look at experience, national appeal, and readiness to lead,” he stated.

He explained that Dr Bawumia’s exposure as Vice President and as the party’s flagbearer in the 2024 elections gives him a strategic advantage over his competitors.

According to Mr Mercer, this is why a growing number of senior party figures and former parliamentary candidates have lined up behind Dr Bawumia’s bid to once again lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

NPP race: Bawumia to win with nearly 70% votes – Egyapa Mercer http://34.58.148.58/npp-race-bawumia-to-win-with-nearly-70-votes-egyapa-mercer/ Fri, 23 Jan 2026 08:42:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622768 Former Sekondi MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer has predicted a decisive win for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming internal presidential race, projecting that the former Vice President could secure close to 70 per cent of the votes.

Speaking on Metro TV on Thursday, January 22, Mr Mercer said feedback from party structures across the country indicates overwhelming grassroots support for Dr Bawumia.

“From what we are seeing on the ground, Dr Bawumia is likely to win with close to 70 per cent of the votes. The support base is very strong,” he said.

Mr Mercer, who is leading over 100 former NPP parliamentary candidates from the 2024 elections in backing Dr Bawumia, attributed the momentum to the former Vice President’s accessibility and proven track record in office.

He added that such a commanding victory would position the party strongly ahead of the 2028 general elections by providing unity and clarity of leadership early in the political cycle.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said his assurance comes from observations on the campaign trail, noting that the only question remaining is the margin by which the former Vice President will secure victory.

“I have no doubt that Bawumia will win the election. We have conducted our campaign, and based on what I have seen, it is clear who the winner will be. The only question is the margin of victory. A decisive win will strengthen his authority within the party and make post-primary reconciliation easier, allowing the NPP to unite behind its flagbearer,” he said.

He added that nothing on the ground suggests that Dr. Bawumia will not emerge victorious, stressing that a substantial win would enhance unity within the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Only a coward refuses to accept defeat – Oppong Nkrumah defends Bawumia’s 2024 early concession [Audio] http://34.58.148.58/only-a-coward-refuses-to-accept-defeat-oppong-nkrumah-defends-bawumias-2024-early-concession-audio/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 13:22:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622505 The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has defended former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s decision to concede defeat in the 2024 general election, describing it as an act of courage, integrity and respect for Ghana’s democracy.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, the former Information Minister said the decision was not taken unilaterally by Dr. Bawumia but followed extensive consultations with the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“After our discussions, the party was of the view that we should concede. I can also tell you that Dr Bawumia believed it was the right thing to do,” he said.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah stressed that conceding defeat was a collective decision based on collated results available to the party and not a personal choice by the 2024 Presidential Candidate.

“The decision to concede was not Dr Bawumia’s sole decision,” he stated.

He criticised politicians who refuse to accept electoral defeat, describing such conduct as cowardly.

“It is only a coward who, after losing an election, has no courage to stand before supporters to say, ‘we went for the election and we didn’t win, but we live to fight another day,’ and instead claims they were cheated,” he said.

According to him, true leadership lies in honesty and accountability.

“The courageous person is the one who can stand in front of the world and accept that indeed they didn’t win and concede defeat,” he added.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah explained that once the party’s leadership had access to all the collated results on the morning after the election, it would have been irresponsible and a betrayal of trust to pretend ignorance or mislead supporters.

“It would have been irresponsible to keep quiet and lie to supporters when we knew exactly what the results said,” he noted.

Following the 2024 general election, Dr Bawumia’s decision to concede defeat to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama attracted mixed reactions, with some members of the NPP describing the move as premature.

However, Mr Oppong Nkrumah dismissed such criticisms, insisting that Dr Bawumia’s actions demonstrated strength and statesmanship.

“Dr Bawumia will never do that, and that’s why he is formidable. It shows that if he becomes President, he will do right by all manner of persons,” he said.

He recounted how, after completing his own declaration at his constituency, he went straight to Dr Bawumia’s residence for a meeting, despite pressure from some quarters not to concede.

“I saw a very formidable leader, even when people were telling us not to concede. I had all the data,” he revealed.

He said the former Vice President’s decision was driven by a deep sense of responsibility to Ghana’s democracy, rather than personal or partisan interest.

“We have a responsibility to the democracy of this country. It wasn’t about his personal gain. That’s the kind of leader we need,” he stated.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah also cited Dr Bawumia’s principled stance during Cabinet discussions on the COVID-19 levy, noting that although he opposed it, he respected the collective decision of government.

“He raised objections based on principle, but Cabinet decided otherwise, and he respected that,” he said.

He urged critics to see Dr Bawumia’s concession as a mark of maturity and fidelity to democratic values.

“If someone says his concession shows weakness, tell them we need a leader who will show fidelity to Ghana’s democracy, not one who will cause confusion,” he stressed.

He further argued that Dr Bawumia’s guiding principle was to uphold democracy and remain truthful to facts.

“He believed in being truthful to the facts as they are,” he added.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah contrasted this with past elections, claiming that former President John Dramani Mahama did not formally concede defeat after the 2016 elections.

“From 2016 till now, President Mahama never conceded that election. Even the congratulatory message he was supposed to give to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo never came,” he claimed.

What Bawumia said after Ken Agyapong’s attacks – Oppong Nkrumah reveals [Listen] http://34.58.148.58/what-bawumia-said-after-ken-agyapongs-attacks-oppong-nkrumah-reveals-listen/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 13:07:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622513 The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has described Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a man of strong character, focus and integrity, saying those qualities are what make him appealing to Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Mr Oppong Nkrumah dismissed claims that Dr Bawumia made derogatory remarks about the late Prof Albert Adu Boahen.

According to him, the allegation surfaced after Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was told that Dr Bawumia had commented on Prof Adu Boahen’s health and his decision not to contest the 1996 NPP presidential primaries.

However, Mr Oppong Nkrumah insisted the claim was false.

“Dr Bawumia’s speeches usually last about 45 minutes to one hour, and those of us who work closely with him listen to them over and over again. There was absolutely nowhere in that speech where he mentioned Prof Adu Boahen,” he said.

He explained that it was rather comments made by Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, that were wrongly attributed to Dr Bawumia.

“It was Wontumi who made those comments, not Dr Bawumia. Unfortunately, someone told Kennedy Agyapong that it was Bawumia, and that led to the attacks and insults against him,” he stated.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said despite the backlash, Dr Bawumia remained calm and urged his team to stay focused on the campaign.

“When he heard all the attacks, Dr Bawumia simply said we should remain focused. He told us there would be distractions in the last two weeks of the election and that we should concentrate on campaigning on the ground to win, and think about reconciliation after the winner is declared,” he noted.

He said this calm, disciplined approach reflects the character and attributes that many Ghanaians admire in the Vice President.

“That is the kind of character Ghanaians love about Dr Bawumia,” he added.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah further said Dr Bawumia stands out among the aspirants because of the clarity of his ideas and the strength of his policy proposals.

“Dr Bawumia’s ideas are clear, and his policies have the potential to positively transform lives across the country,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

The five aspirants contesting the race are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Mr Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a contender in the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, recently accused Dr Bawumia of lying about the party’s 1992 presidential candidate, Professor Albert Adu Boahen.

According to Mr Agyapong, Dr Bawumia had claimed that Professor Adu Boahen did not contest the 1996 presidential election due to health reasons—an assertion he described as misleading.

In a video circulating widely on social media, Mr Agyapong urged delegates to reject Dr Bawumia’s candidacy, arguing that the former Vice President was unfit to lead both the NPP and the country.

However, reacting to the claims in an interview on Adom TV with host Akwasi Nsia, Nana Akomea dismissed the allegations as completely unfounded and challenged Mr Agyapong to substantiate his accusations.

“Dr Bawumia has never made the statements that have been attributed to him. These accusations are baseless, uninformed and unwarranted,” Nana Akomea stated.

He stressed that the claims circulating in the public space were false and deliberately designed to damage Dr Bawumia’s credibility ahead of the party’s internal contest.

“If Kennedy Agyapong has any evidence to support what he is saying, he should present it. Otherwise, he must retract his statements and apologise,” he added.

Nana Akomea further emphasised that Dr Bawumia expects a clear retraction and apology, noting that political competition within the party must be conducted with integrity and respect.

“Political contestation should be guided by truth and civility, not personal attacks and misinformation,” he said.

The exchange adds to rising tensions within the NPP as aspirants intensify their campaigns ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

Northerners support Bawumia because he is competent; nothing else – Farouk Aliu Mahama http://34.58.148.58/northerners-support-bawumia-because-he-is-competent-nothing-else-farouk-aliu-mahama/ Wed, 21 Jan 2026 11:01:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622064 Former Member of Parliament for Yendi, Dr. Farouk Aliu Mahama, has emphasised that support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, from northern Ghana is grounded in competence rather than regional affiliation.

Dr. Mahama made the remarks on JoyNews’ AM show on Wednesday, January 21, highlighting the former Vice President’s ability to lead the country effectively.

“Northerners are not supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia because he comes from the north but because he is competent and ready to lead Ghana,” Farouk Aliu Mahama said. “He is the one who can win power for the NPP and deliver results for all Ghanaians.”

He stressed that regional loyalty has never been the primary factor in political decisions in northern Ghana, citing historical examples.

“The north didn’t vote for my late father, Aliu Mahama, or Malik Alhassan,” Farouk Aliu Mahama explained, reinforcing that voters prioritise capability and leadership qualities over origin.

Dr. Mahama argued that Dr. Bawumia’s track record, particularly in economic and financial management during his tenure as Vice President, has earned him respect and confidence across all regions.

“Competence speaks louder than anything else. It is why the northern electorates see Bawumia as the right choice to lead the nation,” he said.

He concluded by urging delegates of the New Patriotic Party to consider leadership ability as the key factor in the upcoming flagbearer primaries.

“It is about the future of Ghana. The people want results, not just regional representation. Bawumia is the competent leader our country needs,” Farouk Aliu Mahama added.

Dr Bawumia’s calm leadership is what Ghana needs – Karbo http://34.58.148.58/dr-bawumias-calm-leadership-is-what-ghana-needs-karbo/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 19:33:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2621196 Senior Advisor to the Bawumia Campaign and former Lawra MP, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has described former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the kind of calm and measured leader Ghana needs at this stage of its democratic development.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Karbo dismissed claims that Dr Bawumia’s calm nature reflects weakness, stressing that effective governance requires composure rather than aggression.

“You need to fear people who are calm in nature. The presidency is not about rabble-rousers but cool heads. Dr Bawumia is never a weak person,” he said.

According to Mr Karbo, Ghana has outgrown confrontational leadership styles and now requires a president who is thoughtful, approachable, and reflective of the country’s democratic maturity.

“Governance is not about extremity or toughness. Ghana has gone past the Rawlings-type presidency. Our democracy has progressed, and Ghanaians want a leader who is measured and well-considered,” he noted.

He further argued that Ghanaians prefer a leader who can unite the nation and engage citizens without fear or intimidation.

Mr Karbo added that Dr Bawumia’s temperament positions him as a leader capable of steering the country forward while delivering results that meet the expectations of the people.

Bawumia is rich in ideas – Anthony Karbo http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-is-rich-in-ideas-anthony-karbo/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 19:32:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2621216 Senior Advisor to the Bawumia Campaign, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has described former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s wealth of ideas as his strongest asset in the ongoing campaign.

According to him, Dr Bawumia’s ideas have the potential to transform Ghana’s economy and improve governance.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr Karbo said Dr Bawumia has clearly articulated his vision for the country and distinguished himself through innovative policy thinking.

“Dr Bawumia is rich in ideas, and ideas run a nation. His vision is already known, and he has marketed himself through the policies he has championed,” he stated.

Mr Karbo cited the Gold-for-Oil programme as a key example of Dr Bawumia’s ability to think outside the box, noting that the initiative has helped address some of the country’s economic challenges.

He argued that Ghana’s current challenges require fresh thinking rather than the recycling of old ideas, stressing that Dr Bawumia’s emphasis on innovation and digitalisation has the potential to create jobs and drive national development.

“If given the opportunity, the ideas he is bringing, including digitalisation, will truly create jobs and move the country forward,” Mr Karbo added.

Over 75% of NPP Parliamentary candidates outpolled Bawumia in 2024 – Bryan Acheampong http://34.58.148.58/over-75-of-npp-parliamentary-candidates-outpolled-bawumia-in-2024-bryan-acheampong/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 05:18:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2620749 A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bryan Acheampong, has raised questions over the nationwide appeal of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, urging delegates and voters to critically assess the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing party delegates, Dr Acheampong cited voting patterns from the 2024 general elections, arguing that they point to a significant disconnect between the party’s parliamentary strength and the appeal of its presidential candidate at the national level.

According to him, more than 75% of the NPP’s parliamentary candidates across the country polled more votes in their respective constituencies than Dr Bawumia did as the party’s flagbearer.

He described this outcome as unprecedented in the political history of the party and a strong indication that voters were more inclined to support local candidates than the presidential ticket.https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1395374358749563%2F&show_text=false&width=560&t=0

“Most of the time when we vote, you realise that the presidential candidate’s total votes are usually slightly higher than those of the parliamentary candidate,” Dr Acheampong noted.

“For parliamentary candidates, their votes often reduce because of the local challenges they face. However, in 2024, in over 75 per cent of constituencies across Ghana, parliamentary candidates performed better than the presidential candidate. That has never happened before.”

He argued that this reversal of the traditional voting trend raises serious questions about Dr Bawumia’s nationwide appeal, particularly among grassroots supporters and floating voters who play a decisive role in general elections.

Dr Acheampong explained that the figures suggest voters separated their support, choosing NPP parliamentary candidates based on familiarity, performance and local trust, while withholding similar support for the presidential candidate.

He warned that ignoring such signals could prove costly for the party in future elections.

The Abetifi MP urged delegates to take a strategic and pragmatic approach when choosing the party’s next flagbearer, stressing the need for a candidate who can unify the party and command broad national support.

He referenced advice once given by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who encouraged voters to reflect on their livelihoods when casting their ballots, noting that such practical messaging resonated with the electorate and contributed to electoral success at the time.

“Former President Kufuor once said, ‘Take a look at your livelihood when you vote,’ and that message helped him to win,” Dr Acheampong recalled.

He suggested that future leadership must connect more effectively with the everyday concerns of Ghanaians.

Dr Bawumia did not provide campaign funds to Eastern Region — Jeff Konadu http://34.58.148.58/dr-bawumia-did-not-provide-campaign-funds-to-eastern-region-jeff-konadu/ Sat, 17 Jan 2026 09:28:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2620407 The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Konadu, has rejected claims that the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, provided financial support to parliamentary candidates in the Eastern Region during the general elections.

Speaking amid growing public debate over campaign financing within the party, Mr Konadu described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that Dr Bawumia neither brought nor sent any campaign funds to the region.

“Let me state this clearly and without ambiguity: Dr Mahamudu Bawumia did not bring any campaign money to the Eastern Region,” Mr Konadu said. “If anyone claims they received money in his name, they should go back to whoever gave them that money.”

According to the regional chairman, he has directed Opare Ansah, the 2024 campaign manager for Dr Bawumia, to trace the source of any funds alleged to have been distributed in the former Vice President’s name.

“I have told Opare Ansah to let anyone who claims they received money from Dr Bawumia go back to the person who actually gave it to them,” he added.

Conflicting Accounts On Badwam

The controversy intensified following comments made on Badwam on Adom TV, hosted by Akwasi Nsiah, where some Members of Parliament shared their experiences regarding campaign support.

The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Akwasi Acquah, said he was contacted by Dr Alolo and asked to collect constituency campaign funds from Dr Bryan Acheampong, who was then the Eastern Regional Campaign Coordinator of the NPP.

“I was asked to come for campaign support from Dr Bryan Acheampong,” Mr Acquah stated. “I went to his house with some constituency executives, where we met the regional chairman, the regional secretary and other party officials. An amount was given to me, and I was told it was support from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for my constituency.”

Similarly, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, indicated on the same programme that they were informed that Dr Bawumia had released funds to support parliamentary candidates in the region.

“We were told that Dr Bawumia had provided some financial assistance to parliamentary candidates in the Eastern Region,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah said, adding that some constituency executives from his area went to collect the money on behalf of the constituency.

Chairman Konadu’s Rebuttal

Reacting to the assertions, Mr Konadu expressed shock at Hon. Acquah’s account, describing it as untrue and potentially damaging to party unity.

“I was surprised that Hon. Akwasi Acquah could sit on Adom TV and suggest that money I personally handed to him did not come from Bryan Acheampong,” Mr Konadu said. “That is a big lie.”

He cautioned party members, particularly MPs, against making public statements that could deepen internal divisions within the party.

“Such statements have the tendency to break the party,” he warned. “We must be truthful and responsible, especially when discussing sensitive issues like campaign financing.”

If you want it shorter for online publishing or adjusted to sound more neutral, I can do that too.

Bawumia did nothing wrong in 2024 elections – Abu Jinapor http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-did-nothing-wrong-in-2024-elections-abu-jinapor/ Thu, 15 Jan 2026 19:31:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2619875 The Member of Parliament for Damongo and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has defended former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, insisting he did nothing wrong during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Jinapor said his support for Dr Bawumia was based on conviction, adding that he would not have backed him if he had not seen leadership qualities in him.

According to him, Dr Bawumia’s campaign in the Northern and Savannah regions was successful, and his message resonated across the country.

He dismissed claims that support for Bawumia was driven by regional or ethnic considerations, describing such arguments as flawed.

Mr. Jinapor noted that many of Dr Bawumia’s strongest supporters come from southern Ghana, stressing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not a sectional party.

He cautioned against attempts to divide Ghanaians along North-South lines, stating that such divisions have no place in Ghanaian politics.

He maintained that Dr Bawumia is supported because party members believe he is the right candidate to lead the NPP to victory.

Mr. Jinapor further urged that promoting unity and national identity remains key to sustaining Ghana’s peace and democratic progress.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Ansah Opoku said voter apathy played a significant role in the party’s poor performance.

“During the 2024 elections, a lot of people refused to vote. Based on the data, most parliamentary candidates performed better than Dr. Bawumia,” he stated.

He argued that the outcome should prompt the party to critically assess whether its candidate was appealing enough to mobilise voters, stressing that the NPP must prioritise electoral performance over sentiment.

“We should ask ourselves what really happened. Was it that our candidate wasn’t appealing enough for people to vote for him?” he questioned.

Mr. Ansah Opoku added that historically, the NPP has rewarded strong performance rather than repeating candidates, noting that introducing new faces has often improved the party’s acceptability, charisma, and nationwide appeal.

“The NPP is aiming at victory. Politics is about numbers, not emotions,” he stressed.

Bawumia focused on delegates, not rivals – Dominic Nitiwul http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-focused-on-delegates-not-rivals-dominic-nitiwul/ Wed, 14 Jan 2026 06:52:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2619039 Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul says former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not distracted by rivals in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential race.

The Bimbilla MP said the 2024 NPP flagbearer is instead focused squarely on winning the confidence of party delegates.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, he dismissed suggestions that Dr Bawumia sees any of the other contenders as a threat.

“Bawumia is not looking at anybody as a threat. He is looking to the NPP supporters to give him that mandate, and we believe that he will win,” he said.

According to him, the campaign is not built around attacking opponents.

“It’s not targeting an individual who is not in our campaign.”

Responding to questions about the strength of the other aspirants, Mr Nitiwul acknowledged that each brings influence and support into the contest.

“Trust me, they’re all strong in their various areas. Ken, Bryan, Kwabena and Adutwum all have their own following. They all have their own strength.”

He explained that Dr Bawumia’s posture is deliberate and rooted in political realism.

“And you see, I’m hesitant to go and run after somebody. If you really believe you are going to win an election as a presidential candidate, you don’t go running down other candidates, because you will need them after the elections.”

Mr Nitiwul argued that attacks on fellow aspirants often betray a lack of confidence.

“If you see a candidate running down another candidate, that candidate does not believe you win, he or she wins, because if you believe like that, you will not run.”

He warned that such an approach creates problems after the contest.

“If I’m contesting, which I’m running you down after the election, how am I going to get you back?”

In his view, restraint must come from the candidate, not just supporters.

“So you, the candidate yourself, should never, maybe some of your supporters can do, but you, the candidate yourself, should never, that’s a piece of advice.”

He stressed that unity after the primaries should guide campaign conduct.

“You should never run down another candidate. If you really believe you will be the candidate, how are you going to get that candidate and his supporters to come on board?”

Mr Nitiwul said Dr Bawumia’s campaign reflects that thinking.

“So if you look at the way Bawumia is going about his campaign, he never talks about other candidates.”

Instead, he said the Vice President is focused on the message and vision.

“He puts his points out there. Focuses on his campaign. It tells the delegates his message. He tells the people of Ghana his vision.”

Mr Nitiwul said the campaign believes that approach is resonating within the party.

“And we think that we have said enough to let the NPP people realise that the candidate that the people of Ghana are looking for is Bawumia.”

Bawumia is Ghana’s biggest political face after Mahama – Sammi Awuku http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-is-ghanas-biggest-political-face-after-mahama-sammi-awuku/ Tue, 13 Jan 2026 19:35:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2618970 Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has described Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most prominent political figure in Ghana after former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Awuku said Ghanaian voters who have participated in elections from 2012 to 2024 are most familiar with the faces of Mahama and Dr. Bawumia on the ballot.

He explained that while Mahama contested the 2024 election for the fourth time, Dr. Bawumia appeared on the ballot for the first time following the exit of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, constitutional restrictions will prevent Mahama from contesting the 2028 elections, positioning Dr. Bawumia as the most recognizable political figure going forward.

“Any Ghanaian who has voted in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 will remember significant changes in the political landscape. In 2024, Mahama was running for the fourth time, while Bawumia was on the ballot for the first time. After Kufuor’s departure, the most popular politician from the NPP was Akufo-Addo. However, Akufo-Addo exited the ballot in 2024, making Mahama the most recognizable face for voters,” he said.

“By 2028, constitutional limits mean Mahama will not be able to compete. The challenge for an opposition party in terms of marketing is that their visibility is often restricted. When voters return to the polls, the most familiar name on the ballot after Mahama is likely to be Bawumia,” Awuku added.

He also rejected claims that Dr. Bawumia was a weak candidate, noting that his 2024 candidature helped the NPP improve its performance in Zongo communities, increasing its vote share from 30 per cent in 2020 to 40 per cent.

“Therefore, if someone claims that Bawumia wasn’t a strong candidate, I would question what more he could have done. In 2024, Bawumia’s candidacy garnered 40% of total Zongo votes, a notable increase from the 30% he received in 2020. I believe that Bawumia effectively connects the party to its base,” he stated.

FACT CHECK: Kennedy Agyapong’s claim that Bawumia skipped Adenta NPP campaigns false http://34.58.148.58/fact-check-kennedy-agyapongs-claim-that-bawumia-skipped-adenta-npp-campaigns-false/ Tue, 13 Jan 2026 09:20:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2618642 During a campaign tour of Adenta Constituency on Sunday, January 11, 2026, NPP presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong alleged that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia did not support the party’s parliamentary candidates in the area.

According to Agyapong, the NPP lost the Adenta seat because Bawumia reportedly refused to campaign for Akosua Manu, citing her opponent, Mohammed Ramadan of the NDC, as a relative by marriage. He also described Adenta as a “traditional NPP seat.”

However, both electoral records and visual evidence contradict these claims. Data from past elections show that Adenta has not been a stronghold for the NPP.

Since the constituency’s creation, the NDC has won four out of six parliamentary elections, while the NPP has secured victory twice. In the last five elections, the NPP won only in 2016, whereas the NDC took the seat in 2008, 2012, 2020, and 2024.

Video and pictorial records shared by Akosua Manu further show that Dr. Bawumia actively campaigned for NPP parliamentary candidates in Adenta.

On November 27, 2020, he appeared alongside Yaw Buaben Asamoah, the NPP candidate, urging voters to support both the party and President Akufo-Addo during events at Ashale Botwe Mosque. He also campaigned for Akosua Manu in September 2024, participating in multiple constituency events.

Given the constituency’s electoral history and the documented evidence of Dr. Bawumia’s active participation in NPP campaigns, Kennedy Agyapong’s claims are therefore FALSE.

Karaga: NPP delegates kneel before Bawumia to appeal for Amin Adam to contest seat again http://34.58.148.58/karaga-npp-delegates-kneel-before-bawumia-to-appeal-for-amin-adam-to-contest-seat-again/ Tue, 13 Jan 2026 08:56:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2618616 Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Karaga Constituency have made a dramatic appeal to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urging him to intervene and persuade their Member of Parliament, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, to seek re-election despite his stated intention not to contest.

The appeal came after the delegates formally endorsed Dr. Bawumia, during which they knelt before him as a sign of respect and urgency, asking him to convince the MP to reconsider his decision.

According to the delegates, the scale of development Dr. Amin Adam has delivered over the past five years makes his continued leadership indispensable.

“We still want him as our MP because of the unprecedented development he has brought to Karaga,” one delegate said, stressing that the constituency could not afford to lose such leadership at this stage.

Dr. Amin Adam made history as the first NPP Member of Parliament for Karaga since the constituency was created. In the 2024 general elections, he retained the seat with a commanding margin of more than 6,000 votes—a performance party supporters say reflects the confidence of constituents in his leadership.

“He broke the jinx for the NPP in Karaga and strengthened the party’s base here,” a party elder noted.

The delegates’ appeal follows a similar call last month by a group of traditional chiefs and opinion leaders in the constituency, who publicly urged Dr. Amin Adam not to abandon the people, citing his accessibility and development record. “Karaga still needs you,” one chief reportedly told him.

Party supporters now hope that Dr. Bawumia’s intervention will convince the MP to remain in the race and continue what they describe as a transformative chapter in the constituency’s political history.

Bawumia poised to win over 65% in NPP primaries – Egyapa Mercer http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-poised-to-win-over-65-in-npp-primaries-egyapa-mercer/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 15:47:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2617457 Former Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has expressed confidence that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will secure more than 65 per cent of votes in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Egyapa Mercer said he would be “very surprised” if Dr. Bawumia fails to cross that margin, citing growing support within the party.

“If Bawumia does not secure more than 65% of the votes in the NPP primaries, I will be very surprised,” he said.

His comments follow a public declaration by 118 former NPP parliamentary candidates who have thrown their support behind Dr. Bawumia ahead of the party’s January 31, 2026, primaries. According to Mr. Egyapa Mercer, the number could increase to 142, as not all supporters were captured in the initial list.

He explained that the group assessed the qualities required for the party’s comeback after the 2024 general elections and concluded that Dr. Bawumia best fits the expectations of Ghanaians.

“Ghanaians are seeking specific traits in a leader, and Bawumia surpasses expectations in those areas. We have engaged with all key stakeholders, and as former parliamentary candidates who have experienced campaigns firsthand, we believe it is crucial to rally behind him,” he said.

Mr. Egyapa Mercer stressed that the endorsement was made after broad consultations and that former parliamentary candidates remain influential voices often consulted by party members before major decisions.

He also clarified that the declaration is not meant to undermine other aspirants but reflects the group’s view that Dr. Bawumia stands out as the strongest candidate.

“Our open declaration is significant because many in our community consult with us before making decisions. While we have great respect for the other aspirants and recognize they are excellent individuals, we genuinely believe that Bawumia stands out as the strongest candidate, without any malice or disdain for the others,” he added.

Nana Akomea confident Bawumia will win all 16 regions in NPP primaries [Audio] http://34.58.148.58/nana-akomea-confident-bawumia-will-win-all-16-regions-in-party-primaries-audio/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 15:30:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2617386 The Chairman of the Communications Directorate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, Nana Akomea, has expressed confidence that the former is poised to win all regions in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Nana Akomea said the reception the former Vice President has received from party members so far indicates strong support across the country.

“If we are judging by the reception he has received so far, the party members have embraced him warmly. If the election goes the way the reception suggests, Bawumia will sweep all the regions,” he said.

He recalled Bawumia’s performance in the 2023 NPP primaries, where he won 14 out of 16 regions, with the Central and Volta regions being the only exceptions.

“Even now, his popularity is higher than it was in 2023. Based on how the delegates have received him so far, I believe he will sweep all 16 regions this time,” Nana Akomea added.

According to him, Bawumia began his campaign tour in the Savannah Region yesterday and will spend about a week there before moving to the Ashanti Region for two weeks.

Once he completes the Ashanti tour, he will have visited all 276 constituencies.

“I have been with him in at least 12 regions, and the reception everywhere has been very encouraging,” Nana Akomea said, noting that the campaign is progressing smoothly on a region-by-region basis.

The NPP is scheduled to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, marking the formal start of preparations for the 2028 elections following constitutional reforms aimed at broadening participation in the selection process.

Describing Bawumia as a disciplined leader, Dr. Boako emphasized that his calm approach is key to preserving unity within the party as delegates prepare to elect the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

He called on party members and delegates to respect the electoral process, stressing that the focus should remain on fair competition and safeguarding the overall cohesion and success of the party.

Bawumia’s character reflects genuine national progress, not personal ambition – Akosua Manu asserts http://34.58.148.58/bawumias-character-reflects-genuine-national-progress-not-personal-ambition-akosua-manu-asserts/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 10:54:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616853 Akosua Manu, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan, has described Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a leader motivated by genuine national progress rather than personal ambition, as the party prepares for its upcoming presidential primaries.

Speaking ahead of the NPP’s presidential contest scheduled for January 31, Ms Manu said the former Vice President’s leadership has consistently been guided by integrity, innovative ideas, and a deep sense of responsibility toward improving the lives of Ghanaians.

She noted that Dr Bawumia’s record in public service reflects a commitment to national development anchored in principle, not self-interest.

According to Ms Manu, who also serves as an aide to Dr Bawumia, the former Vice President has demonstrated a clear vision for Ghana’s future through policy reforms and initiatives aimed at modernising the economy and strengthening public institutions. She said these efforts underscore his dedication to progress and inclusive growth.

She further emphasized that Dr Bawumia’s leadership is marked by credibility and a willingness to pursue bold ideas in the national interest, even in the face of political challenges.

“Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s character reflects a genuine dedication to national progress, not personal ambition. Integrity and ideas have consistently guided his leadership, and he remains deeply committed to improving the lives of Ghanaians,” she said.

We are yet to see Bawumia’s electoral ceiling – Amin Adam http://34.58.148.58/we-are-yet-to-see-bawumias-electoral-ceiling-amin-adam/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 09:21:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616793 Former Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is yet to fully test the electoral strength of its 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, arguing that future elections will be fought under a very different political atmosphere.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr Amin Adam said the intense public hostility that shaped the 2024 elections would not exist in 2028, as voters would then be assessing the performance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government rather than comparing it with the NPP.

“We are yet to see Bawumia’s electoral ceiling,” he said.

“In 2028, that hostility in the electoral environment will be absent because we will be judging the NDC against their performance, because they’ve been given the mandate by Ghanaians who felt that the NDC could do better. It is not going to be NPP.”

Dr Amin Adam, who served under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, suggested that public anger towards the NPP ahead of the 2024 polls was driven largely by tough economic decisions taken by the government during a period of severe economic strain.

According to him, those decisions—though unpopular at the time—are beginning to yield results that are now being credited to the current NDC administration.

He cited the relative stability of the cedi as a key example. While acknowledging that the NDC government is currently being praised for improved currency performance, Dr Amin Adam argued that the gains were built on policies implemented by the previous government.

“People are talking about the cedi being stable today and the NDC government has done well as a result of that,” he said. “The performance of the cedi today is as a result of the foundation the NPP people [laid].”

Ghana’s economy went through a turbulent period between 2022 and 2024, marked by sharp cedi depreciation, high inflation, and the implementation of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme as part of an IMF-supported recovery plan.

These developments significantly affected households and businesses and became central issues in the 2024 election campaign.

The NDC, now in government, has attributed recent economic stability to its policy direction and management style. However, the NPP maintains that the recovery is a continuation of reforms and fiscal adjustments introduced under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Dr Amin Adam expressed confidence that, with time, Ghanaians would come to appreciate the rationale behind the decisions taken by the NPP, even if those choices came at a political cost.

His comments add to the growing post-election debate over economic legacy, accountability, and how voters may judge both major parties as the country looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.

Bawumia outperformed Kufuor in first election, can lead NPP to victory – Oppong Nkrumah http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-outperformed-kufuor-in-first-election-can-lead-npp-to-victory-oppong-nkrumah/ Tue, 06 Jan 2026 18:26:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616621 Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has described former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most formidable flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing his strong performance in the 2024 general election.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah drew parallels between Dr. Bawumia’s political journey and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, noting that similar doubts were raised about Kufuor’s chances after his initial electoral defeat.

He recalled that despite losing his first presidential bid, Mr. Kufuor went on to secure over 50 per cent of the vote when he was elected flagbearer again, eventually becoming one of Ghana’s most successful presidents.

“During Kufuor’s time, people claimed that because he contested the main elections and lost, he couldn’t run again as the flagbearer. However, when he was elected as the flagbearer the next time, he won over 50 per cent of the votes and went on to become one of Ghana’s most successful presidents,” he stated.

According to the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, Dr. Bawumia performed even better than Kufuor in his first election, despite the economic and political challenges facing the NPP in 2024.

He argued that claims suggesting Dr. Bawumia cannot win future elections are unfounded, stressing that with unity, renewed confidence, and improved party organisation, the NPP can return to power.

“Bawumia even performed better than Kufuor in his first election. Given the challenges we faced in 2024, Bawumia’s ability to achieve those results shows that the argument against his viability doesn’t hold. If we keep faith in him and actively support him as our flagbearer, we can win the election. Bawumia is a formidable candidate, and if we rally behind him and work to improve our party as a whole, we can emerge victorious,” he said.

Bawumia outperforms Kennedy Agyapong against all NDC candidates – Global InfoAnalytics http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-outperforms-kennedy-agyapong-against-all-ndc-candidates-global-infoanalytics/ Tue, 06 Jan 2026 13:39:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616507 Pollster and Executive Director of independent research firm Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, says Dr Mahamudu Bawumia currently performs better than other leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) contenders when pitched against the top four figures within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Dankwa disclosed findings from the firm’s latest December poll, which tested several hypothetical presidential match-ups ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to him, the data shows that regardless of which NPP flagbearer is selected, Dr Bawumia consistently records stronger numbers than Kennedy Ohene Agyapong when matched against potential NDC candidates.

“If you flip the coin and assume the NPP elects Kennedy, and you pitch him against the NDC’s top four, the numbers show the NDC candidate going up to about 61 or 62 per cent, while Kennedy sits around 34 per cent,” he explained.

Mr Dankwa said similar patterns emerged when Kennedy Agyapong was tested against different NDC figures. Against one NDC contender, Asiedu-Nketiah polled 57 per cent compared to Kennedy’s 38 per cent, while another scenario recorded 53 per cent for Julius Debrah and 41 per cent for Kennedy.

“These are the scenarios we ran in the December polling that has just been released. And in all of them, Bawumia is doing better. That’s the data at the moment,” he noted.

While Mr Dankwa cautioned that political dynamics can shift over time, he stressed that the current data offers an early snapshot of how voters may respond to different flagbearer options, underscoring the importance of strategic decision-making ahead of future elections.

Gold For Reserves Policy not Bawumia’s original idea – Eric Opoku http://34.58.148.58/gold-for-reserves-policy-not-bawumias-original-idea-eric-opoku/ Mon, 05 Jan 2026 18:52:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616237 The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, has stated that the Gold for Reserves policy was not originally initiated by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr. Opoku said the Bank of Ghana had been holding gold reserves long before the introduction of the policy under the previous government.

According to him, although Dr. Bawumia later introduced the Gold for Reserves and Gold for Oil initiatives, the programmes did not fully achieve their intended objectives and reportedly recorded losses due to poor implementation.

“The idea was good, but it wasn’t implemented well,” Mr. Opoku said, adding that while Dr. Bawumia expanded the policy, he was not its originator.

The minister stressed that the Bank of Ghana’s practice of holding gold reserves predates the policy, noting that challenges in execution ultimately affected its overall impact.

Addressing party supporters in the Okaikwei South Constituency, Dr. Bawumia said the NDC often responds with insults whenever his name is mentioned, a reaction he attributed to the impact of his campaign during the 2016 elections.

“The 2016 campaign was a heated one, and that is why the NDC does not like me,” he said, stressing that he remains undeterred by the criticism.

He further alleged that the NDC is actively seeking to influence the NPP’s upcoming flagbearer primary, preferring that delegates vote for another candidate instead of him.

“Do you know that the NDC does not want you to vote for me in the primary, but rather for someone else? Why should another party decide who becomes the candidate of your party? I do not believe the people of Okaikwei South will allow that,” he added.

Let us keep our eyes on the prize; we must win 2028 for Ghana – Bawumia urges NPP members http://34.58.148.58/let-us-keep-our-eyes-on-the-prize-we-must-win-2028-for-ghana-bawumia-urges-npp-members/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 12:13:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615184 Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party members to prioritise Ghana’s national interest over internal disagreements as the party prepares to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

In a New Year message to NPP members, Dr. Bawumia stressed that the party’s ultimate goal must be victory in 2028, noting that the stakes go beyond individual ambitions or internal competition.

He called on supporters to remain focused despite distractions, rumours, and perceived divisions within the party.

“To every NPP member listening to me, let us keep our eyes fixed on the prize. We must win 2028 for the sake of Ghana,” he said.

The former Vice President cautioned that escalating internal tensions could weaken the party’s chances of regaining power, emphasising that disunity serves only the interests of political opponents. He therefore urged members to avoid actions or rhetoric that could further fracture the party.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted that the ongoing flagbearership contest should be guided by ideas, vision, and policy direction rather than personal attacks, warning that negative campaigning within the party provides ammunition to opponents ahead of the 2028 polls.

According to him, a disciplined and issue-based contest would not only strengthen internal cohesion but also enhance the NPP’s appeal to the Ghanaian electorate as it positions itself for a return to government.

“We should not be distracted by the storms around us, the rumours, or the perceived divisions. Let us set aside anything that has the potential to divide our party further. This flagbearership contest should be about ideas and vision—not personal attacks. Engaging in anti-party acts only hands ammunition to our opponents,” he added.

In his New Year message, Bawumia reflected on the state of Ghana one year into President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, congratulating the President on his first year in office and urging continued focus on peace, stability, and national cohesion.

He noted concerns over Ghana’s drop in the 2025 Global Peace Index, falling six places globally to 61st and from fourth to seventh in sub-Saharan Africa, citing rising security worries and unrest in certain areas.

The Vice President stressed that it has become important to preserve the independence of democratic institutions, highlighting the controversial removal of Ghana’s third female Chief Justice as an example of weakening institutional trust.

“When institutions are weakened, democracy is weakened. When institutions are politicized, trust is lost,” he said.

Addressing members of the NPP ahead of the party’s flagbearer selection for the 2028 elections, Bawumia emphasized unity, discipline, and service-oriented leadership. He encouraged members to focus on ideas and vision rather than personal attacks, stressing that internal divisions only provide ammunition to political opponents.

He pledged to rebuild the party and ensure it regains the trust of Ghanaians, stating that parliamentarians from the NPP minority will continue to hold the government accountable, fight for ordinary Ghanaians, and champion opportunities for youth, education, and healthcare.

Looking ahead, Bawumia painted a vision of a Ghana that works for everyone, where ethnic and religious differences are set aside, and institutions are restored to safeguard democracy.

He reiterated his readiness to lead the NPP into the next election and, with the support of Ghanaians, serve as the nation’s next president.

The Vice President concluded by wishing Ghanaians a prosperous 2026, calling for renewed hope, strengthened efforts, and faith in Ghana’s shared destiny.

Vote for me on the basis of my competence, track record, integrity and vision – Bawumia appeals to NPP delegates http://34.58.148.58/vote-for-me-on-the-basis-of-my-competence-track-record-integrity-and-vision-bawumia-appeals-to-npp-delegates/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 05:39:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612781 Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has appealed to delegates of the New Patriotic Party to vote for him in the January presidential primaries based on his competence, integrity, experience and vision for Ghana, rather than on regional considerations.

Speaking in an interview with Spear FM in Damongo during his campaign tour of the Savannah Region, Dr Bawumia called on delegates, particularly in the north and across the country, to focus on leadership qualities and performance rather than ethnicity or geographical origin.

“I’m asking for the support of our NPP delegates. That is why I’m campaigning and why I’m in the region,” he said.

“I am asking them, on January 31, to vote for me not because I come from the north. We don’t vote on that basis.”

He urged delegates to assess his candidature based on merit.

“They should vote for me on the basis of my track record, my competence, my integrity, my vision for the country and my experience,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia said his years of experience and impact as Vice President position him well to lead the country effectively as President.

“Under President Akufo-Addo, I have been adjudged by many as the most effective Vice President in the history of this country. That is an acknowledgement of my track record and the work I have done,” he said.

He added that with the delegates’ support, he could replicate that effectiveness at the presidential level.

“I want the delegates to help me become one of the most effective Presidents in the history of this country. That is why I need their support on January 31.”

Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that the NPP would return to power under his leadership in the 2028 general election.

“I believe that this party, the NPP, under my leadership, will come back to power after the 2028 elections. We will work hard for the party and for the people of Ghana,” he said.

“I want them to trust me, and by the grace of God, I will deliver victory in 2028.”

Former Jasikan MCE quits as Bryan Acheampong’s coordinator; declares support for Bawumia http://34.58.148.58/former-jasikan-mce-quits-as-bryan-acheampongs-coordinator-declares-support-for-bawumia/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 15:48:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612263 NPP Flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has been dealt a heavy blow, following the defection of a senior campaign coordinator, Elizabeth Anim Kessewaah Adjornor, his campaign coordinator for Jasikan Constituency.

With a few weeks to the NPP’s primaries, Elizabeth Adjornor, who was the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for the area, has announced he defection to the camp of former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a press statement announcing her withdrawal from Bryan’s camp and return to Bawumia’s, Elizabeth Adjornor said her decision had been taken after “deep personal reflection and sincere consultation.”

“I am convinced, beyond doubt, that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia represents the vision, discipline, and forward-looking leadership that Ghana needs at this critical stage of our democratic journey.

Madam Elizabeth Adjornor proclaimed her previous close association with Dr. Bawumia, adding that returning to his camp is “a decision of conviction, conscience, and consistency.”

“My heart continues to yearn for the political home where I once belonged. I am convinced, beyond doubt, that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia represents the vision, discipline, and forward-looking leadership that Ghana needs at this critical stage of our democratic journey.”

The former MCE added that her decision to join Bryan Acheampong earlier, may have inadvertently swayed some of her people to follow her. She therefore rendered an apology to Dr. Bawumia and also urged her people to ‘return home.’

“I also wish to use this opportunity to render an unreserved apology to His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Although I never issued any unpalatable or derogatory statement against him, I acknowledge that my public support for Bryan Acheampong may have inadvertently drawn a considerable number of people away from the DMB camp.”

“This was never my intention, and I regret any inconvenience or misunderstanding my actions may have caused. Accordingly, I humbly entreat all supporters, associates, and sympathizers who left the DMB camp on my account to return home, just as I have done.”

“Our collective strength lies in unity, loyalty, and a shared belief in credible leadership.”

Bryan Acheampong cannot distance himself from 2024 defeat – Former NPP Chairman [Video] http://34.58.148.58/bryan-acheampong-cannot-distance-himself-from-2024-defeat-former-npp-chairman-video/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 15:13:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612183 Former New Juaben North NPP Constituency Chairman, Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang, has criticised Bryan Acheampong for attributing the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections solely to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Agyemang, Acheampong, who served as Eastern Regional Campaign Coordinator for Bawumia, must also take responsibility for the party’s loss.

Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam, he argued that it is unfair for Acheampong to distance himself from the defeat when he was a key member of the campaign team and one of Bawumia’s advisers.

“It is very important that as we approach the elections, we are measured in our language. Bryan Acheampong has stated that Bawumia was the reason we lost the 2024 elections, claiming that bringing him back as the flagbearer puts the party at risk. I don’t believe that is right. Bryan Acheampong must take full responsibility; if Bawumia failed, he was part of the reason why. This suggests that they intentionally provided him with poor advice that contributed to his defeat. Bryan was Bawumia’s coordinator in the Eastern Region, which adds to the responsibility,” he said.

Agyemang added that if Bawumia failed in the 2024 elections, then Acheampong also failed, given his significant role in shaping the campaign strategy in the Eastern Region.

“If he had the audacity to undermine our candidate by warning delegates that bringing Bawumia back would be disastrous, then we must question his judgment. Bryan explained that Bawumia lost the 2024 election, but he was also part of the campaign team. Therefore, if Bawumia failed, then Bryan Acheampong also failed. What was he thinking while advising Bawumia? He was one of his key advisors,” he added.

NPP Primaries: Electoral Area Coordinators in Yunyoo, Chereponi and Saboba declare support for Bawumia http://34.58.148.58/npp-primaries-electoral-area-coordinators-in-yunyoo-chereponi-and-saboba-declare-support-for-bawumia/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 13:36:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612192 Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s growing momentum in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries received a significant boost on Wednesday following emphatic endorsements from key party officials.

All Electoral Area Coordinators in the Yunyoo and Chereponi constituencies in the North East Region, as well as Saboba in the Northern Region, openly declared their support for Dr Bawumia.

On the final day of his tour of the North East Region, the Yunyoo and Chereponi constituencies followed the example of Yagaba, Walewale and Bunkpurugu, which had announced similar mass declarations a day earlier.

During separate engagements in Yunyoo and Chereponi, all Electoral Area Coordinators stepped forward to formally announce their support in the presence of Dr Bawumia and a packed gathering that included polling station executives.

From there, Dr Bawumia proceeded to the Saboba Constituency in the Northern Region, where Electoral Area Coordinators also endorsed him en bloc.

In all three constituencies, the coordinators, while pledging their full support and commitment to work for the former Vice President, urged him not to campaign to them, insisting that it would be unnecessary since they had already made up their minds to vote for him.

At Saboba, where party supporters initially resisted his attempt to address them, Dr Bawumia appealed for the opportunity to speak. When they eventually agreed, he delivered a brief ten-minute address — far shorter than his usual hour-long campaign message — during which he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.

Dr Bawumia’s campaign has continued to attract strong backing at the grassroots level, with Electoral Area Coordinators in several constituencies across the country publicly endorsing his candidature.

Electoral Area Coordinators constitute a key bloc within the NPP’s electoral college, and political analysts regard their support as critical to success in the party’s presidential primaries. They work closely with polling station executives, and endorsements at the electoral area level often reflect broader support within the party’s grassroots structures.

Bawumia not to blame for Ghana’s economic decline – Stephen Amoah http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-not-to-blame-for-ghanas-economic-decline-stephen-amoah/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 15:43:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2611851 A member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign strategy team, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has rejected claims that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was responsible for Ghana’s economic downturn.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Amoah said it would be dishonest to blame the New Patriotic Party’s loss and economic challenges solely on Dr. Bawumia.

He described such claims as political propaganda.

He noted that broader economic dynamics, rather than one individual, contributed to the situation.

He believes that the party’s focus should be on selecting a candidate who best represents its future and enhances its chances of regaining power.

“Bawumia is not responsible for destroying the economy of Ghana. It would be misleading to blame the decline of the NPP solely on him. Having studied economics, I understand the complexities involved. This narrative is just political propaganda that unfairly holds Bawumia accountable.

“We need to focus on the dynamics at play and what the people truly want for the future of our country. The NPP has contributed significantly to Ghana, so our primary goal should be to regain power. The public does not despise the NPP, but timing is crucial; the right representation is what matters,” Dr. Stephen Amoah added.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr Acheampong said that although Bawumia is his main rival, he is currently leading based on his profiling of the delegates.

“My main competitor is Bawumia, but based on my analysis of the delegates, I am leading by a significant margin. I will win the NPP flagbearer race,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its presidential primary for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Bawumia was a driver’s mate and could not overrule the driver – Adwoa Safo mounts strong defence http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-was-a-drivers-mate-and-could-not-overrule-the-driver-adwoa-safo-mounts-strong-defence/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 16:29:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610625 Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has mounted a strong defence of former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, dismissing claims that he was responsible for the economic challenges recorded under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Addressing NPP delegates, Adwoa Safo urged party members to disregard narratives blaming Dr Bawumia for economic mismanagement, insisting that his role in key economic decisions was limited.

She maintained that he remains the most suitable candidate to lead the party going forward.

She argued that the shaping and execution of economic policy were largely influenced by other senior officials, particularly the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Questioning attempts to shift blame onto Dr Bawumia, she asked, “Was Dr Bawumia the finance minister? Were we not in government when some MPs complained that because of the way the economy was being mismanaged, the finance minister should be changed? Didn’t he damage everything before he was changed? So how can we blame this on Bawumia?”

Adwoa Safo stressed that Dr Bawumia did not have the authority to override decisions taken at the highest levels of government.

Using a metaphor to illustrate her point, she said, “He was only the driver’s mate and could not overrule the driver, even if the driver was not performing well.”

Her remarks come amid criticisms from some flagbearer aspirants in the ongoing NPP presidential race, who have attributed the party’s economic record in government to Dr Bawumia.

The NPP is expected to elect its presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, ahead of the next general elections, with Dr Bawumia among five contenders vying for the party’s flagbearer position.

Bawumia does not exist in my life – Kennedy Agyapong [Video] http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-does-not-exist-in-my-life-kennedy-agyapong-video/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 13:26:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610542 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has declared that former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, holds no relevance in his life.

According to Mr Agyapong, he does not concern himself with Dr Bawumia, claiming the former Vice President “does not exist” in his life.

“I do not have time for Dr Bawumia. In my life, he does not exist, because if he existed, I might commit a crime. That is how I see myself,” he said.

He further alleged that Dr Bawumia was behind controversial remarks made by the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

Mr Agyapong also cautioned against what he described as attempts to manipulate the upcoming NPP flagbearer election, insisting that he believes in the party’s structures and processes.

“I do not have time for them, but that does not mean they should rig the election. I know all the Electoral Commission officials my opponents have engaged with, and they plan to use the party’s internal security to intimidate people,” he claimed.

Kennedy Agyapong expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of appreciation for his contributions to the party during the last election.

“Did I not campaign for him? After the election, did he even call to say thank you? Some of his supporters were insulting me. The only loyal person from his camp was NAPO,” he lamented.

Dr Bawumia not responsible for NPP’s economic challenges – Adwoa Safo http://34.58.148.58/dr-bawumia-not-responsible-for-npps-economic-challenges-adwoa-safo/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 13:15:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610521 Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject claims that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was responsible for the mismanagement of the economy under the party’s administration.

According to her, Dr Bawumia remains the strongest candidate to lead the NPP and should not be made a scapegoat for the party’s economic challenges.

Addressing some party delegates, Ms Adwoa Safo argued that Dr Bawumia did not wield ultimate authority over economic decision-making and therefore cannot be held solely accountable for the country’s economic difficulties.

She pointed to the significant role played by other senior government officials, particularly former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, in shaping and implementing economic policy.

“Was Dr Bawumia the finance minister? Were we not in government when some MPs said that because of the way our economy was being mismanaged we should change the finance minister? Didn’t he damage everything before he was changed? So how can we blame this on Bawumia?” she questioned.

Ms Adwoa Safo further stressed that Dr Bawumia lacked the power to override decisions taken at the highest levels of government.

“He was only the driver’s mate and could not overrule the driver, even if the driver was not performing well,” she said.

Her remarks come amid criticism from some flagbearer aspirants in the ongoing NPP presidential primaries, who have blamed Dr Bawumia for the party’s economic record while in office.

The NPP is scheduled to elect its presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, ahead of the next general elections.
