The use of this vehicle raised suspicions among supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who strongly opposed the move.

They accused the EC of breaching standard protocols by attempting to transport the ballot materials in a DV-registered vehicle.

The situation escalated quickly, with agitated voters gathering to demand transparency.

Security personnel at the scene intervened to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

They are actively working to restore calm and ensure the election process continues without further disruptions.

Observers have called for clarity from the EC to address these concerns and maintain trust in the electoral process.

Warning shots fired, ballot box snatched in NPP Walewale primaries re-run [Video] http://34.58.148.58/warning-shots-fired-ballot-box-snatched-in-npp-walewale-primaries-re-run-video/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 19:44:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2446239

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yagaba-Kubori Chairman, Akamari Bawa, has allegedly disrupted the party’s primary in Walewale during the vote sorting process, leading to his arrest by the police.

The incident took place after voting had concluded, prompting disappointment from one of the aspirants, Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru.

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Kabiru expressed his frustration, stating, “Someone, out of fear and knowing that defeat was imminent, decided to disrupt the process. We know who the person is.”

He continued, “I have raised the issue… If someone claims not to know this person, I find that hard to believe. He’s been arrested. The former constituency chairman for Yagaba-Kubori, Akamari Bawa.”

Dr. Kabiru also expressed hope that the police would handle the situation appropriately, emphasizing that the ballots, which were reportedly secured, must be counted. “They must count it, and I have absolutely no doubt that the people’s choice will be declared,” he added.

NPP Walewale Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Muniru Janda, noted that Dr. Kabiru appeared to be leading based on the ballots being sorted at the time of the disruption.

He also expressed concerns about the safety and integrity of the ballots following the incident.

Last month, the Tamale High Court in the Northern Region presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah, ordered a re-run of the constituency’s primary.

The Judge, who gave the ruling on Monday, September 2, said the full judgement will be read on September 12, 2024.

This ruling comes barely a week for parliamentary and presidential aspirants to file their nominations for the December 7 election in line with the Electoral Commission’s timelines.

Background

In June 2024, the court placed an injunction on Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru restraining him from holding himself as the elected parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the Walewale constituency in the North East Region.

The ruling by Justice Richard Kugyapaw, followed a challenge to the election results by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu.

EC dismisses viral video alleging ballot box staffing http://34.58.148.58/ec-dismisses-viral-video-alleging-ballot-box-staffing/ Thu, 02 May 2024 13:46:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2389038 The Electoral Commission (EC) has reacted to a viral video of an official allegedly staffing a ballot box.

The individual depicted in a viral video was seen stuffing ballot papers into a ballot box during the Ejisu by-election.

But the EC, in a statement on May 2, said the man is not a staff and the incident is not related to the Ejisu by-election.

The Commission also debunked the video’s authenticity, stating that the official in the video is seen wearing a green vest, while the commission uses blue vests for its operations.

Another individual in the video was seen wearing an orange vest, indicating a lack of correlation with EC operations.

Additionally, the location in the video shows a polling station in an enclosed area, whereas the Commission typically conducts polling stations in open spaces.

The EC further emphasized the importance of verifying information before concluding.

EC assured the public of its commitment to transparency and fairness in electoral processes.

Adaklu residents mass up at police station over ballot boxes http://34.58.148.58/adaklu-residents-mass-up-at-police-station-over-ballot-boxes/ Thu, 03 Dec 2020 15:10:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1888613 The Ho Police Command is beefing security at the Waya Police Post to safeguard the ballot boxes used in Monday’s Special Voting exercise.

Acting Ho Municipal Police Commander, ASP Alex Yeboah, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, in an interview in Ho, said the decision followed the tension brewing from the disagreement among some political actors in the Adaklu District over the safekeeping of the ballot boxes.

Supporters of the two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress are said to disagree on whether the boxes should remain at the present location or be moved to Ho.

ASP Yeboah explained that the Ho Command continued to superintend over the Adaklu Command, which only had two police posts – at Waya and Ahunda – and lacked the capacity to adequately protect the ballot boxes.

However, he said, one of the political parties objected to plans to move the boxes to the Ho Armoury for safe keeping, claiming that it would raise party youth to support the Police to protect the ballot, which is under seal.

This development has resulted in some youth massing up at the Waya Police Post to prevent the relocation of the boxes.

ALSO READ:

Mr Yeboah said since the issue could not be resolved by the close of Wednesday, he was leading a Police reinforcement to the Waya Police Post, where the ballots were being kept until Thursday, when an agreement was expected to be reached between the parties.

He explained that Police Armouries were the designated places for the safe keeping of these voting materials over the period, saying if the parties would understand this issue, the dispute could be addressed amicably.

He said since the political parties had counter sealed the ballot boxes with peculiar serial numbers that they had recorded, the suspicion could have been be avoided.

The parties, he said, should believe in the Police to protect lives and property at all times.

The Ballot Box: No roads no vote – Asuogyaman residents bare teeth at govt http://34.58.148.58/the-ballot-box-no-roads-no-vote-asuogyaman-residents-bare-teeth-at-govt/ Fri, 17 Jul 2020 22:44:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1828686 The deplorable nature of Adjena-Jakiti road in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern region will matter in their choice of candidate in the upcoming general election.

Majority of residents, including chiefs who spoke during ‘The Ballot Box’ programme on Adom FM, have resolved not to vote in the December polls due to failure by successive governments to fix the road.

Jakiti road is used by farmers in the nearby communities to convey their farm produce to Akosombo for sale but they say the produce perished due to unavailability of vehicles to ply the Jakiti stretch.

They stressed that their vote would be dependent on the candidate who is able to solve their teething water problem as well as unemployment.

Sharing their frustration, some queen mothers in the area said they have given up on voting, as years of voting have not brought any significant transformation in their lives.

Jobs

The youth in the area complained about massive unemployment in the area.

They claim all the opportunities are given to people outside Asuogyaman – a development they want government to address.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman , Samuel Kwame Agyekum assured of government’s resolve to fix the road.
