Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Asiedu said, “The Bible tells us that you can forgive, but you are not required to forget. Dr. Bawumia, even when people attack him, does not respond with anger, he simply smiles.”

She added that disagreements and harsh words are normal in politics and that going on a witch-hunt is not the way forward.

Drawing parallels with previous leaders, she noted, “I remember when former President Kufour was about to contest, even members within the party opposed him. Yet he became president. The same happened with former President Nana Addo. Commentary and opposition cannot stop the destiny that God has for a candidate.”

On Bawumia’s approach to party unity, she explained, “If people attack him during the primaries, he does not attack back. That is what he stands for. I believe that if he wins the primaries, he will put everything behind him and focus on ensuring the togetherness we want as a party.”

Her comments come as Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 vice-presidential candidate, faces criticism from some opponents, including former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

She noted that Bawumia has chosen to ignore these attacks and focus on winning while maintaining peace within the party.

The January 31 internal contest is intensifying, with party figures publicly declaring support for preferred candidates as the NPP prepares for its next phase of reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

I’m not ungrateful – Ayensuano MP on claims of ditching Bryan Acheampong to support Bawumia http://34.58.148.58/im-not-ungrateful-ayensuano-mp-on-claims-of-ditching-bryan-acheampong-to-support-bawumia/ Fri, 30 Jan 2026 15:21:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2625687 The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Ida Adwoa Asiedu, has rejected claims that she is being ungrateful for supporting former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race, despite receiving assistance from Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong during her own election.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the lawmaker said her decision is based on conviction, not obligation, emphasizing that gratitude should not be confused with political choice.

“I am not ungrateful and I will never be,” she said. “Before God, Bryan Acheampong supported me during my election. But a choice is a choice.”

She explained that the support she received was never transactional. “We were all in a team supporting a candidate. I was never told that because someone helped me, I must support him when he decides to contest,” she noted.

Miss Asiedu added that the public often overlooks the broader picture of campaign financing. Beyond Dr. Acheampong, she said Dr. Bawumia, whom she is now backing, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong also contributed significantly to her political journey.

“People also don’t know the kind of support I had from the person I am supporting. Kennedy Agyapong also helped me,” she explained.

She stressed that political campaigns are rarely funded by a single individual, and support typically comes from multiple sources. “Politics is not one person’s funding. Support comes from many places. I can’t sit here and list what each person did, but they all helped in diverse ways,” she said.

The MP urged critics to refrain from passing judgment without understanding the facts. “If people don’t understand the issues, they should stop talking. I don’t know their definition of ungratefulness, but I am not,” she added.

Miss Asiedu said she has largely ignored the accusations but felt compelled to clarify that her support for Dr. Bawumia is a personal and political decision, not a rejection of those who once assisted her.

NPP race: I know some people are not happy I support Bawumia – Ayensuano MP http://34.58.148.58/npp-race-i-know-some-people-are-not-happy-i-support-bawumia-ayensuano-mp/ Fri, 30 Jan 2026 13:33:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2625607 The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Ida Adwoa Asiedu, has insisted she is unfazed by criticism over her open support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race, noting that political choices naturally attract mixed reactions.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the MP acknowledged that some constituents and party members are unhappy with her stance but said leadership is not about pleasing everyone.

“I am aware that some people are disappointed and not happy I support Bawumia. But like the Bible says, ‘Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you,’” she stated.

Reflecting on her own political journey, Madam Asiedu noted that disagreement is a normal part of politics and should not be mistaken for personal animosity.

“When I was contesting the parliamentary primaries, not everybody supported me, so it is normal. Every politician knows who voted for him or her and those who didn’t,” she said.

She revealed that in the Ayensuano contest, she secured 420 votes out of about 669 delegates, giving her insight into both her supporters and critics. “I know most of the over 200 who didn’t vote for me.

Some are those who are disappointed, and a few are even people who voted for me,” she added.

Madam Asiedu emphasized that political behaviour is often shaped by interests and expectations rather than personal animosity. “Politics is about interest. People will go where they think they will benefit when resources are being distributed,” she explained.

Despite the criticisms, the MP stressed that her relationship with constituents and party members remains strong. “I won’t say they are disappointed because they still love me as a person and I have a cordial relationship with them. Clearly, if I should contest another primary, they will vote for me,” she said.

Her comments come as the January 31 internal contest intensifies, with party figures publicly declaring support for preferred candidates ahead of the next phase of the NPP’s reorganisation toward the 2028 general elections.
