The suspect, identified as Ekow Abekah, a taxi driver from Gomoa Fetteh, is currently receiving treatment at the Awutu Bereku Health Centre.

According to Isaac Arhin, a close friend of the car owner who spoke to Adom News, the incident occurred when the vehicle, with registration number GG 2658–20, was briefly parked by the roadside.

The owner had stepped aside to conduct a Mobile Money transaction, while Mr. Arhin went to buy food. Believing they would return quickly, they left the key in the ignition.

In a surprising twist, Ekow—described by some as mentally unstable—allegedly jumped into the vehicle and sped off.

The incident triggered a pursuit by motor riders from Gomoa Ojobi, who eventually caught up with the suspect between Awutu Bereku and Akoti. He was dragged out of the car and severely beaten by the crowd. Eyewitnesses claimed the suspect defecated on himself during the assault.

Mr. Arhin added that the windscreen and boot of the car were damaged during the chase.

The suspect was later rescued by police in the area and taken to the Awutu Bereku Health Centre for medical care.

Some residents have condemned the mob action, insisting that Ekow is well-known in the Gomoa Fetteh community and may not have intended to steal the vehicle.

Okada rider found dead in dam at Awutu Bereku http://34.58.148.58/okada-rider-found-dead-in-dam-at-awutu-bereku/ Tue, 08 Mar 2022 11:36:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2088436 A 23-year-old commercial motorbike (okada) rider, Nana Yaw, has been found dead in an abandoned dam at Awutu Bereku.

The deceased was last seen on top speed on his motorbike around 3 pm, Monday afternoon.

Residents plying the route of the dam saw a body in the water, which was later discovered to be Nana Yaw.

Police preliminary investigations have suggested that he did not die from drowning.

According to the mother of the deceased, Paulina Quaye, police revealed blood was the only liquid emitting from his nose and mouth during first aid.

This had intensified suspicions that he may have been murdered and dumped in the abandoned community dam.

A resident told Adom News this is the first such incident to rock the Awutu Bereku community.

He explained the water in the dam is not deep enough to cause a 23-year-old to drown.

Meanwhile, Nana Yaw’s motorbike is yet to be discovered.

This follows a clash between angry youth and alleged fraud boys over the death of the 67-year-old woman, Yaa Badua, in the community.

According to the charged youth, the fraud boys are the cause of all the robbery, rampant killing of people, and people mysteriously getting missing in the area.

In a bid to stop the criminal activities in the area, the youth conducted a search in the ghettos where the fraud boys live and found and ceased many parcels of marijuana, guns, cutlasses, knives, mobile phones, laptops and sent the items to the Police and filed a complaint but nothing was done about it.

This pushed them to put the law into their hands and clashed with the fraud boys. In the process, some of the boys were attacked with sticks and cutlasses, and other weapons leading to the death of one while nine others sustained serious injuries.

The Assin Praso Police stepped in and arrested 14 people who are assisting in investigations while the body has been deposited at Assin Fosu Mortuary for Preservation.
