The initiative, launched by Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, was designed to sharpen the academic abilities of JHS 2 students and improve performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Held at the Akosombo International School from August 10 to 24, the Educamp brought together 400 top-performing students from 70 public and private schools. The programme focused on English, Mathematics, and Science—subjects critical for academic success.

Mr. Nyarko said the camp was born out of concern for the declining educational performance in the district.

“The best way to motivate and sharpen the abilities of our brightest students is to create this camp. We brought five of the best students from each school to prepare them to do better,” he noted.

The camp featured problem-solving drills, mentorship sessions, and career coaching led by experienced educators. Participants also received over 2,000 exercise books, mathematical sets, and 400 Maths and Science textbooks donated by the MP.

One of the highlights was the recognition of outstanding students, with Zoe Kudo Yayra named overall best performer after an examination.

Mr. Nyarko commended teachers for their commitment and encouraged students to apply their training to achieve improved results in the BECE.

“Education is the key to growth, and I am pleased to help our students succeed,” he said.

District Education Director, Augustina Adwoa Owusu, described the MP’s interventions as timely and impactful.

She acknowledged challenges such as infrastructure deficits but praised ongoing efforts, including the construction and renovation of school blocks.

She expressed optimism that with initiatives like the Educamp, Asuogyaman would soon rank among the districts producing top-performing students.

Assembly members accuse MP of busing voters to register in Asuogyaman http://34.58.148.58/assembly-members-accuse-mp-of-busing-voters-to-register-in-asuogyaman/ Sun, 09 Jun 2024 23:08:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2406940 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, faces allegations of orchestrating an illegal voter transfer scheme in preparation for the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Concerns have been raised by Assembly members from the Asuogyaman District Assembly regarding the integrity of the voter registration process in the constituency.

In a press conference, Zurak Abdul Hamid, Assembly Member for the Senchi electoral area, accused Mr Nyarko of busing individuals from neighboring constituencies, including North Tongu, South Dayi, Lower Manya Krobo, and Upper Manya Krobo, to transfer their votes to Asuogyaman.

Mr Hamid argued that these actions compromise the democratic rights of genuine residents and undermine the fairness of the electoral process.

“Our democratic system relies on fair and transparent elections, where every vote is a true reflection of the constituents’ will. The practice of transporting people to manipulate the voter register not only disrupts this balance but also raises serious ethical and legal questions,” Hamid stated.

In response to these allegations, Felix Bonney, the NDC Deputy Communication Officer for the Asuogyaman Constituency, strongly refuted the claims.

Mr Bonney alleged that it is, in fact, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that is engaged in such unethical practices and accused the NPP of wrongly attributing these actions to the NDC.

Chaos erupts in Asuogyaman over alleged registration of non-residents http://34.58.148.58/chaos-erupts-in-asuogyaman-over-alleged-registration-of-non-residents/ Fri, 10 May 2024 14:55:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2392839 Tensions flared during the ongoing voter registration exercise when supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at midnight confronted alleged non-residents bused from Afefe in Ketu North to register.

They were said to have been brought in from the hometown of Pius Enam Hadzide, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, to register in the Asuogyaman constituency.

NDC supporters insisted that, the non-residents must return to their communities, arguing that they were ineligible to register.

This led to heated altercations and increased tension in the area. Police intervened and arrested the suspects and later granting them bail.

All suspects were challenged by NDC agents at the voter registration centre on Wednesday, May 8 after they defiantly went through the process.

NDC Constituency Secretary, Clement Amagatse said they will resist all attempts to register foreigners in Asuogyaman.

The limited voter registration exercise began on Tuesday, May 7, aiming to register approximately 623,000 first-time voters across Ghana.

The exercise is set to last for 21 days, ending on May 27, 2024.

Due to online registration challenges, the EC announced it would switch to offline registration starting May 9, 2024.
