Speaking to Adom News at Goaso, Ms. Ntiamoah noted that many houses, especially those built decades ago, were constructed without toilet facilities, making it difficult for the assembly to tackle the problem effectively.

“The situation is worrying because it poses serious health risks to the community,” she said.

According to her, support from the central government and collaboration with NGOs would be crucial in assisting households to own toilet facilities, particularly since assemblies have been directed not to construct new public toilets.

Ms. Ntiamoah also raised concerns about poor sanitation practices among residents, citing indiscriminate littering as another pressing issue.

“The rate at which some residents litter indiscriminately is alarming. We must all take sanitation seriously and desist from such practices,” she urged.

She emphasized that addressing the sanitation challenges requires not only government intervention but also the active cooperation of residents to improve hygiene and safeguard the environment.

Asunafo North Assembly to allocate funds for neglected tropical diseases in 2026 plan http://34.58.148.58/asunafo-north-assembly-to-allocate-funds-for-neglected-tropical-diseases-in-2026-plan/ Fri, 22 Aug 2025 09:03:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2570034 The Asunafo North Municipal Assembly in the Ahafo Region has announced plans to allocate funds in its 2026 medium-term development plan to strengthen efforts against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

The commitment was revealed during a Bi-Annual Accountability Monitoring Forum held in Goaso. NTDs such as yaws, leprosy, elephantiasis, and Buruli ulcer continue to affect residents in the municipality, with health experts warning that these conditions have not received the attention they deserve.

Executive Director of Tim Africa Aid Ghana (TAAG), Isaac Kwabena Kakpeibe, welcomed the decision, describing it as timely support for NGOs already operating on the ground. He noted that TAAG has been leading initiatives to combat NTDs but faces funding limitations.

Ghana Health Service (GHS) Municipal Director, Theresah Krah, who chaired the forum, also commended TAAG’s impact in local communities. She highlighted that the NGO has trained volunteers to detect cases early for referral to health facilities.

Additionally, persons affected by NTDs have received skills training in areas such as soap-making to help them earn a living and reduce financial dependence.

Health officials say the planned funding marks a crucial step toward reducing the burden of NTDs in Asunafo North while strengthening community-based interventions.

Goaso queen mother urges Asunafo North Assembly to provide bins to improve sanitation http://34.58.148.58/goaso-queen-mother-urges-asunafo-north-assembly-to-provide-bins-to-improve-sanitation/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 12:27:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2563262 The Paramount Queen of Goaso in the Ahafo Region, Nana Afia Serwaa, has appealed to the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly to urgently provide refuse bins to help curb poor sanitation in the community.

Speaking to Adom News during a clean-up exercise organized by the traditional council and the assembly ahead of the funeral of the Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, Nana Afia Serwaa expressed concern over the alarming rate of littering in the Goaso township.

She noted that the absence of rubbish bins at key locations in the regional capital has led to indiscriminate disposal of waste, posing serious health risks.

“Goaso is the regional capital of Ahafo, and for it not to have refuse bins at vantage points encourages people to litter anyhow,” she said.

Responding to the concern, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Joseph Akparibo, assured that the assembly, in collaboration with the traditional council, will empower environmental health officers to strictly enforce sanitation by-laws.

“With immediate effect, I have instructed the officers to step out to clamp down on and prosecute anyone who fails to comply with sanitation laws,” he said.

Speaking during a courtesy call on traditional leaders in the area, Mr. Akparibo acknowledged the severe hardship the deplorable road is causing residents and confirmed that the government is treating it as a priority.

He revealed that the Ahafo Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for the area, and himself have jointly petitioned the Minister for Roads and Highways, who has given assurance that a contractor will soon be deployed to the site.

“The government is aware of the difficulties residents face on that stretch. I want to assure you that the Kasapin–Bediako road is among the roads earmarked for immediate attention and will be completed before President Mahama leaves office,” Mr. Akparibo stated.

Meanwhile, Assembly Member for the area, Razak Ahmed, told Adom News that failure to deliver on the road project could cost the Member of Parliament, Haruna Mohammed, significant political support in the 2028 general elections.

“If the MP does not push harder for the road’s construction, he risks losing the confidence of the people—and that will affect the NDC’s fortunes here,” Mr. Razak warned.
