Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Ms Manu described the minister’s remarks at Chatham House as reckless and irresponsible.

According to her, Ablakwa allegedly disclosed that Ghana collaborated with the United States in a Christmas Day bombing targeting armed groups in Nigeria—a statement she believes should not have been made publicly.

She argued that, as Foreign Minister, Ablakwa has access to sensitive security briefings and is bound by an oath of secrecy not to disclose confidential information discussed in high-level meetings.

“The recklessness of the foreign minister. He gets to sit on high tables and receives security briefings, and when you enter the room, no one needs to tell you that your oath of secrecy binds you not to disclose any matter discussed within the confines of the room. He went to sit at Chatham House and disclosed that the Christmas Day bombing was a collaboration with the US.

I don’t know if he feels there is a need to assert himself at any point, but giving information that is not needed is dangerous. What was that information for? Do you know the risk we are in? I have never heard a foreign minister disclose details of an attack. Unless he is recalled, this is not his first time and definitely not the last,” she stated.

Ms Manu questioned the purpose of revealing such information and warned that the remarks could put Ghana’s security at risk.

She called on the government to urgently review the minister’s comments, suggesting the matter should be discussed at an emergency cabinet meeting to assess the potential implications for national security.

“The only thing sustaining Ghana is our stability and the safety of this country. The government should call an emergency cabinet meeting to vet his words and trace every area he has been in because he has exposed us significantly. Knowing what, where, and how to divulge information is critical. That information was reckless and needless; there was no reason for him to give it,” she added.

Applicants allegedly pay up to GH¢50,000 for security recruitment – Akosua Manu [Video] http://34.58.148.58/applicants-allegedly-pay-up-to-gh50000-for-security-recruitment-akosua-manu-video/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 08:47:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2640022 Akosua Asaa Manu, Special Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has alleged that some applicants seeking recruitment into Ghana’s security services are paying large sums of money through unofficial channels to secure placement.

According to Ms Manu, some individuals are reportedly paying between GH¢40,000 and GH¢50,000 as “protocol fees” in an attempt to gain access to the security services.

She made the claim while commenting on the ongoing recruitment process in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, noting that the exercise attracted about 500,000 applicants competing for only roughly 5,000 available slots.

Ms Manu expressed concern about what she described as the politicisation of the security services, observing that many young people now view enlistment as the primary solution to their economic challenges.

She argued that the large sums reportedly being paid for protocol access could instead help young people start businesses, but desperation for employment has driven some to pursue recruitment at any cost.

“I wanted to say I pity the government, but I don’t think they deserve my sympathy because everything has been politicized on several fronts. They promised the youth jobs. 500,000 people applied for a space where only 5,000 will be picked. These 500,000 were taxed; the application wasn’t free. My shock to hear was that some paid 50,000 Ghana cedis and 40,000 Ghana cedis for protocol access to the security services.

That money could start a person’s business, but you can see the hopelessness because that’s what they want. We have politicised the security services to make it seem like once you get there, all your problems are solved. If the forms are what they get money from, then it was a way to tax young people for money because the forms were not free. The more people applied, the more they got money. What are they using it for?” she said.

Young innovators pitch ideas at Akosua Manu’s Changemakers Challenge http://34.58.148.58/young-innovators-pitch-ideas-at-akosua-manus-changemakers-challenge/ Mon, 09 Mar 2026 11:01:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2638490 The maiden edition of the Changemakers Challenge, an initiative designed to nurture innovative ideas among young people, has successfully concluded, with participants pitching bold solutions to real societal challenges under the mentorship of Akosua Asaa Manu.

Held on Friday, March 6, 2026, the programme brought together a cohort of young innovators, providing a platform to present enterprise-driven solutions while receiving guidance on transforming their ideas into viable ventures capable of creating impact in their communities.

During the mentorship session, participants delivered 15-minute pitch presentations, showcasing concepts ranging from community development initiatives to enterprise solutions addressing social and economic challenges.

Speaking at the event, programme principal Akosua Asaa Manu emphasized the importance of supporting young people with ideas and providing platforms to refine those ideas into practical ventures.

“The purpose of the Changemakers Challenge is to identify bold ideas, nurture them through mentorship, and help transform them into enterprises that can create real impact in our communities,” she said.

She added that Ghana’s development will increasingly rely on young people willing to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to pressing challenges. “The future of our country depends on young people who are prepared to innovate and act. What we are doing through this challenge is creating a platform where ideas can be nurtured and refined so that they can contribute meaningfully to national development,” Manu noted.

The mentorship session also formed part of the selection process for the top three proposals that will be adopted and supported under the programme. Participants presented their ideas before a panel, followed by questions assessing feasibility, scalability, and potential impact.

In addition to pitching sessions, the programme included training on running and sustaining an enterprise, offering practical insights into entrepreneurship, business development, and leadership. Participants learned about strategic planning, financial discipline, and market positioning—key elements in transforming ideas into sustainable ventures.

According to Manu, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between innovative thinking and practical implementation by equipping participants with the skills, networks, and mentorship needed to succeed.

She added that, aside from the top three finalists, remaining participants will continue to receive guidance to refine their proposals, which will be shared with potential mentors and partners to help develop the ideas into impactful ventures.

For many participants, presenting their ideas before mentors and industry experts was a valuable learning experience, helping them strengthen their concepts and communicate their vision more effectively.

Organizers say the Changemakers Challenge is expected to grow into a broader platform that continues to identify, mentor, and support young innovators across Ghana. By combining mentorship, enterprise training, and partnership opportunities, the initiative aims to empower the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs to turn ideas into solutions that benefit society.

With the enthusiasm and creativity displayed during the maiden cohort’s presentations, organizers expressed optimism that the programme will significantly promote youth innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.

Bawumia’s character reflects genuine national progress, not personal ambition – Akosua Manu asserts http://34.58.148.58/bawumias-character-reflects-genuine-national-progress-not-personal-ambition-akosua-manu-asserts/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 10:54:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616853 Akosua Manu, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan, has described Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a leader motivated by genuine national progress rather than personal ambition, as the party prepares for its upcoming presidential primaries.

Speaking ahead of the NPP’s presidential contest scheduled for January 31, Ms Manu said the former Vice President’s leadership has consistently been guided by integrity, innovative ideas, and a deep sense of responsibility toward improving the lives of Ghanaians.

She noted that Dr Bawumia’s record in public service reflects a commitment to national development anchored in principle, not self-interest.

According to Ms Manu, who also serves as an aide to Dr Bawumia, the former Vice President has demonstrated a clear vision for Ghana’s future through policy reforms and initiatives aimed at modernising the economy and strengthening public institutions. She said these efforts underscore his dedication to progress and inclusive growth.

She further emphasized that Dr Bawumia’s leadership is marked by credibility and a willingness to pursue bold ideas in the national interest, even in the face of political challenges.

“Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s character reflects a genuine dedication to national progress, not personal ambition. Integrity and ideas have consistently guided his leadership, and he remains deeply committed to improving the lives of Ghanaians,” she said.

Dr Bawumia, the former Vice President of Ghana and the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, is seeking re-election to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

‘Unreasonable behavior’ has no expression in the NPP – Akosua Manu http://34.58.148.58/unreasonable-behavior-has-no-expression-in-the-npp-akosua-manu/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 19:22:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613556 Special Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Asaa Manu, popularly known as Kozie, has emphasized the need for discipline and unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party prepares to elect its flagbearer next month.

Speaking on Movement Radio on Monday, December 22, 2025, Kozie addressed growing public discourse around internal party conduct, campaign tensions, and recent controversies involving party actors.

According to her, the NPP remains a values-driven political organisation. She said the party’s traditions are anchored in respect, the rule of law, and responsible political engagement.

“The NPP is a party with a strong tradition and clear values. We have well-defined structures and disciplinary processes. Unreasonable behaviour, no matter who is involved, finds no expression here,” Kozie stated.

While acknowledging that internal competition can be intense, especially during party elections, she urged members to prioritise discipline and cohesion. She cautioned supporters and communicators of various factions against actions or statements that could fracture unity or damage the party’s public image.

“Our conduct reflects on the entire party. Reckless commentary, misinformation, and personal attacks do not serve our collective interests,” she noted.

Kozie stressed that unity is essential as the party prepares for the January 31 elections. She warned that internal divisions have historically weakened political parties. She therefore urged surrogates to be mindful and conduct their campaigns in ways that do not harm the party.

“Elections are won by united parties. Differences must be resolved with respect, discipline, and loyalty to the party’s cause,” she added.

Her comments come amid rising political tensions ahead of the NPP’s internal activities. Attention is increasingly focused on the conduct of aspirants, surrogates, and grassroots supporters as the January 31 flagbearer election approaches.

Tell Ghanaians your plans to fight galamsey – Akosua Manu to NDC http://34.58.148.58/tell-ghanaians-your-plans-to-fight-galamsey-akosua-manu-to-ndc/ Tue, 23 Sep 2025 11:27:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2581388 Special Aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has accused President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of double standards in their approach to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to her, while in opposition, Mr Mahama and his party consistently criticised the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing it of complicity and demanding radical action.

Yet, since assuming office in January 2025, the President has failed to outline a clear strategy to address the menace.

“Ghanaians deserve to know what exactly President Mahama plans to do about galamsey. In opposition, he made all the noise and criticised every intervention of the NPP. Today, the problem is worse, and yet, he and his appointees have gone silent,” Madam Manu said on Adom TV’s Badwam on Friday, September 19, 2025.

She further called out key NDC figures, including Communications Minister Sam George, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Kofi Armah Buah, and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, noting that they had previously demanded a state of emergency in mining areas but have since abandoned those calls.

“Today, these same individuals sit comfortably in government but have abandoned their calls. They owe the people of Ghana an apology,” she added.

The NPP 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Adentan contrasted the Mahama administration’s silence with what she described as the structured plan presented by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP’s 2024 manifesto.

She explained that the plan included comprehensive geological investigations to map gold deposits before exploration—a step she called “the sustainable and scientific way” to tackle galamsey.

“The NPP presented a structured and forward-looking solution. What has the NDC offered beyond rhetoric?” Madam Manu quizzed.

She urged President Mahama to move beyond political talk and present concrete solutions, stressing that the fight against galamsey is too critical to be reduced to partisan slogans.

Akosua Manu criticises Foreign Minister over U.S. Deportee deal http://34.58.148.58/akosua-manu-criticises-foreign-minister-over-u-s-deportee-deal/ Thu, 18 Sep 2025 14:30:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2580129 Special Aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB), Akosua Manu, has raised concerns over Ghana’s agreement to host deportees from the United States without parliamentary ratification.

In a post on her social media pages on Thursday, September 18, the NPP’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan criticised the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for allegedly bypassing constitutional requirements. She also questioned the justifications he offered during a recent interview on Channel One TV.

“I watched in utter disbelief a clip from an interview granted by our Foreign Minister on Channel One TV,” she said.

“The topic was a deeply troubling one: the justification for Ghana’s agreement to host deportees from the United States without the crucial step of parliamentary ratification. We must remember that in this role, he represents the entire nation, not his personal convictions.”

Drawing parallels with the 2016 Gitmo Three controversy, Manu stressed that Ghanaian laws are clear on such matters.

“About a decade ago, the nation woke to the shocking news that terrorists, infamously known as the Gitmo Three, had been granted refuge on our soil—a move that bypassed our strict laws and parliamentary procedures. The matter was rightly taken to court, and the ruling was unequivocally clear: such weighty international agreements must be discussed, vetted, and approved by Parliament,” she recalled.

She accused Mr. Ablakwa of hypocrisy, noting his past record of harsh criticism of previous administrations.

“Today, the Foreign Minister, who consistently lashed out at the previous government for virtually everything, finds himself in the firm, unyielding chokehold of Lady Karma,” Madam Manu declared.

Warning of the dangers of executive overreach, she added:

“If these two reasons—finding old documents and receiving a foreign official’s blessing—are enough for our nation’s laws to be discarded on a whim, then I fear for what truly lies ahead. This sets a dangerous precedent where executive convenience overrides constitutional duty and parliamentary oversight. May God have mercy on us all.”

Akosua Manu defends Hawa Koomson over Ablekuma North incident http://34.58.148.58/akosua-manu-defends-hawa-koomson-over-ablekuma-north-incident/ Mon, 14 Jul 2025 09:35:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2554893 The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has voiced strong support for former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson following the recent violent incident during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

She maintains that the former Minister was unjustly targeted and did not intend to provoke any confrontation.

In an interview with Channel One TV, Akosua Manu recounted the events as described by Madam Koomson. She stated that the former Minister was at the polling station in a peaceful manner when she was suddenly attacked. According to Koomson, she only used pepper spray in self-defence after perceiving a threat from one of the assailants, who appeared to be wielding a weapon.

“Her narration gave me goosebumps,” Manu said. “She mentioned that at one polling station, as she was entering, she was told she could only go in with one person. At the time, police personnel were next to her.

“She and her team were making the rounds. While she observed proceedings, her personal security team stayed back a bit. Suddenly, she heard people saying ‘where is she, where is she,’ and then she looked up and saw a group of young men approaching her.

“One of them she recognised. They literally charged at her. She said she saw something that looked like a weapon, and that’s when she quickly reached for her pepper spray. She said if it weren’t for the spray slowing them down, the outcome would have been worse than anticipated. Mind you, she didn’t go there to cause confusion,” Manu explained.

Mrs. Manu condemned the assault as an act of political aggression and called on all political actors and stakeholders to denounce violence—especially during democratic processes that are meant to promote peace and representation.

Akua Afriyie is the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the area, where the outcome of the December 2024 parliamentary election remains contested due to electoral irregularities.

In a message shared on social media, Akosua Manu acknowledged the emotional toll the decision has taken on Akua Afriyie, whose hard-fought campaign and initial victory have been thrown into uncertainty.

“I know the battles you have fought and the work you have done to get this far,” she wrote.

“To work so hard and attain the goal but have victory snatched from your hands… that is the hand we are dealt.”

Despite the setback, Akosua encouraged Akua to find strength in the journey, describing her as a symbol of perseverance.

“Yet, you do not fight a lost battle because everything you have done makes you a champion to look up to,” she said. “Someday, others will fly because you walked. You chose to work for your people, and that will always be remembered.”

Akosua Manu’s message has since drawn admiration from party faithful and sympathisers alike, with many praising the show of solidarity among NPP women leaders.

As the rerun approaches, Akua Afriyie remains a prominent figure in the constituency, buoyed by the unwavering support of colleagues like Akosua, who concluded her tribute with: “Those you have inspired will always stand and rise with you.”

In an open letter issued on Tuesday, June 10, Akosua Manu urged the Vice President to help restore the dignity of Madam Torkornoo, who she says is under siege following her suspension by President John Mahama.

Describing the ongoing investigations and actions against the Chief Justice as a coordinated effort to subject her to “the highest possible form of public ridicule,” Madam Manu drew attention to what she termed unprecedented attacks on Justice Torkornoo’s dignity.

“Any observer not exercising extreme restraint can only conclude that there is a deliberate and concerted effort not only to remove Madam Torkornoo but also to subject her to the highest possible form of public ridicule,” she wrote.

She evoked a shared history of Ghanaian women in leadership, praising the Vice President’s past remarks about opening doors for others.

Referring to the legacy of Justices Georgina Wood and Sophia Akuffo, she questioned: “Why, then, is she [Torkornoo] not merely being pushed out, but also being bruised and embarrassed on her way out?”

She concluded her appeal by urging Naana Jane to use her moral voice and leadership to stop what she called “a violation of rights” and “a miscarriage of justice.”

Madam Manu emphasised that the issue at stake transcends politics, stating, “This is not about shielding any official from accountability. It is about safeguarding the dignity of our institutions and the message we convey to every Ghanaian girl with dreams.”

Dumsor Levy: Stop using your goodwill to saddle Ghanaians with taxes – Akosua Manu to government http://34.58.148.58/dumsor-levy-stop-using-your-goodwill-to-saddle-ghanaians-with-taxes-akosua-manu-to-government/ Tue, 10 Jun 2025 11:00:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2543160 The 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, popularly known as Kozie, has criticised government’s implementation of the GH¢1 per litre levy.

She accused it of misusing public trust to impose harsh taxes on Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, June 9, 2025, Kozie criticised the framing of the levy, passed under the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, as deceptive and downplayed in public discourse.

“If we sit here and make this GH¢1 tax per litre look like it’s just GH¢1, when ultimately it’s almost GH¢4.50 per gallon of fuel, then we are taking Ghanaians for granted,” she said.

“This deliberate attempt to push the GH¢1 narrative to make it seem like a one-time payment—or like you’re paying GH¢1 a month—is very deliberate brainwashing, gaslighting that you guys are doing. And the earlier you stop, the better,” she warned.

Her comments come amid rising public discontent and plans for mass protests by the Minority in Parliament, who estimate the new levy could extract GH¢475 million from consumers monthly, totalling GH¢5.7 billion annually.

Kozie’s remarks add to growing public concern over the government’s increasing dependence on indirect taxes, which many say are putting unbearable pressure on household budgets.

She cautioned the ruling party against using its remaining political goodwill to push unpopular policies that risk deepening voter apathy.

The Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL), set to take effect on June 16, is intended to support efforts to restructure power sector debts.

However, critics argue the move unfairly burdens already strained citizens without tackling the core inefficiencies in state institutions like the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has also condemned the rollout of the levy, calling it both “unlawful” and “coercive.”

Your Dumsor Levy is draconian – Kozie tells Mahama http://34.58.148.58/your-dumsor-levy-is-draconian-kozie-tells-mahama/ Thu, 05 Jun 2025 15:36:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2542117 The New Patriotic Party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has taken a swipe at the John Dramani Mahama administration over what she described as a “draconian and farcical” dumsor levy.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Thursday, 5 June, Madam Manu criticised the NDC’s handling of energy sector challenges, accusing the party of hypocrisy and a lack of transparency.

She condemned the manner in which the so-called dumsor levy was introduced under the Mahama administration, claiming it lacked proper consultation and was forced on Ghanaians without adequate stakeholder engagement.

“It was introduced in darkness, quite literally and figuratively,” she said.

“Ghanaians woke up to a tax that was neither debated publicly nor explained transparently.”

Madam Manu also recalled the fierce resistance the NDC mounted against the Akufo-Addo government’s Electronic Levy (E-levy), describing their stance at the time as disingenuous.

“It is the height of political inconsistency for a party that vilified the E-levy to now turn around and defend a levy imposed without dialogue. Where was the stakeholder engagement then?” she asked.

While calling for honest national conversations about energy financing, she emphasised the need for fairness and consistency in political discourse.

She stated that the demolition was carried out by individuals claiming to be officials from the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), who arrived in a branded pickup vehicle.

When asked whether she had a building permit, Akosua Manu, who could not confirm or deny, explained that community leaders told her they were the rightful owners of the land.

Additionally, she said the Assembly also claimed it had no control over the land, hence the project proceeded.

Condemning what she described as an act of impunity, she vowed to pursue all necessary legal and administrative channels to ensure the facility is restored and those responsible for the demolition are held accountable.

Sack Kumasi Mayor now – Akosua Manu to Mahama http://34.58.148.58/sack-kumasi-mayor-now-akosua-manu-to-mahama/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 13:54:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2526042 Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has strongly condemned Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi over his recent comments threatening physical confrontations against traders operating on pavements.

Speaking during a discussion on Channel One TV, Mrs. Manu described the Mayor’s remarks as reckless and a recipe for chaos and lawlessness, calling for his immediate removal from office.

“What I do not understand is that someone entrusted with leadership can stand before people and threaten physical assault as a means of enforcement. And I was even more shocked to learn that when he was contacted, he reiterated that same position,” she said.

Mrs. Manu argued that the Mayor’s endorsement of violence should not only earn him a formal reprimand but should also cost him his position, as it undermines the values of democratic governance.

“He should have been the shortest-serving appointee in this government. Upon hearing that he had repeated physical assault as a likely punishment to deter hawkers, the President should have called the Chief of Staff to remove him from office. In no way should such conduct be tolerated in our governance system,” she stressed.

She further maintained that a government committed to the rule of law and nonviolence cannot entertain such rhetoric from its appointees.

“For reiterating that point, I am saying by now if it was Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, the KMA Mayor would have been withdrawn, and a new person appointed. There is no justification for making such statements,” she added.

Mrs. Manu also warned that allowing the Mayor’s comments to go unchecked could set a dangerous precedent, encouraging other municipal authorities to adopt similar approaches, potentially leading to widespread disorder.

“He is creating an avenue for chaos. If this becomes the template — the Kumasi Mayor does it, then the Accra Mayor follows, and Tamale too — the whole system breaks down. If his task force will do the work, it has to be in a very civil and humane way. Nobody should be beaten,” she cautioned.

Kwakye Ofosu told barefaced lies – Akosua Manu on suspicious flights http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-told-barefaced-lies-akosua-manu-on-suspicious-flights/ Wed, 09 Apr 2025 11:36:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2523328

Former Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority, Akosua Manu, has raised concerns about the credibility of President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to investigate allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering at Kotoka International Airport.

In an appearance on Channel One News, Mrs. Manu expressed doubts about the impartiality of the investigation, which was triggered by allegations made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of the Defence Committee.

The Assin South MP had claimed that two aircraft, including an AirMed jet, might have been involved in illegal activities.

Manu further suggested that the investigation’s credibility had been compromised by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who released what she described as “questionable” videos to justify the extended stay of the aircraft involved in the incident.

She argued that Kwakye Ofosu’s explanations were inconsistent with the known facts and therefore lacked credibility.

“The bottom line of this is, I don’t even trust the probe that the President is asking for. Because his spokesperson has already implicated the matter, not because we’ve seen parcels or anything as others are throwing in, but because the sequence of events shows there was a deliberate attempt to lie to the public,” Manu stated.

She accused the Government Spokesperson of lying about key details, saying, “He told barefaced lies. He lied about the maintenance part, he lied about the aircraft, he lied about the maintenance schedule, and the route. On what basis did he even have that information to put out there?”

Adamu Ramadan defeats Akosua Manu to retain Adentan Constituency http://34.58.148.58/adamu-ramadan-defeats-akosua-manu-to-retain-adentan-constituency/ Sun, 08 Dec 2024 21:03:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481222 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Adentan Constituency, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, has become the first Member of Parliament (MP) to successfully retain the seat since its creation in 2004.

Ramadan secured an emphatic victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections, polling 56,303 votes to defeat the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akosua Asaa Manu, who garnered 35,143 votes.

Although his vote count fell short of the 63,436 votes he achieved in 2020, Ramadan broke the constituency’s long-standing “one-term MP” trend.

His initial win in 2020 saw him unseat NPP’s Yaw Buaben Asamoah, who had polled 49,255 votes.

Since its establishment out of the Ashaiman Constituency in 2004, Adentan Constituency has seen four MPs, none of whom managed to secure consecutive terms until now.

In his victory address, Ramadan expressed gratitude to NDC supporters and constituents for their trust and hard work.

“This is a historic achievement in every sense, and I am deeply thankful to everyone who contributed to this success,” he said.

2024 election: Akosua Manu alleges attack on her driver [Listen] http://34.58.148.58/2024-election-akosua-manu-alleges-attack-on-her-driver-listen/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 14:26:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478120 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Adentan constituency, Akosua Asaa Manu, has alleged an attack on her driver by suspected members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The incident she said occurred on Sunday, December 1, 2024, around Rowi Junction in the Adentan Municipality when the driver went to get food.

In an interview on Accra-based ChannelOne TV, Madam Manu said the information she has picked suggests one of the men was clad in NDC paraphernalia while the other wore a long robe.

“Two people got out of a car and one took a stick to hit him on his head. Deep wounds and he needed stitches and went to the hospital. This morning I haven’t been able to reach him by phone but it is very bad,” she claimed.

According to her, the driver survived the attack because he is a tough person, adding it would have been fatal if it was another person.

She disclosed that, this is not the first time people in her camp have been attacked, citing incidents from the voter registration exercise.

“It is unfortunate this has happened a few days to the election as peaceful as we have conducted ourselves despite the constant provocation. Some of my members were slapped during the voters registration and I didn’t make a fuss about it. This is a downright provocation, hoping that we will react,” she said.

Miss Manu noted her driver’s family is incensed about the incident and seeking for justice which she will ensure it’s served.

Condemning the incident, she urged peace among constituents as the election draws near, vowing to remain resolute in her quest for victory.

Ambulance case: NDC hyped leaked tape like Ghallywood movie – Akosua Manu http://34.58.148.58/ambulance-case-ndc-hyped-leaked-tape-like-ghallywood-movie-akosua-manu/ Fri, 31 May 2024 16:39:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2403001 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan constituency, Akosua Manu, has criticised the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) leaked tape, indicting the Attorney General in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial.

Akosua Manu said the tape was hyped more than a new Ghallywood movie.

However, she said it turned out to be an empty tape which had nothing against the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

“They hyped the tape with so much noise on countdown and there was no peace in Ghana’s last couple of days. But I didn’t hear Dame’s voice because it wasn’t audible enough. Later there was another file circulating on social media and there was nothing to show the AG did anything wrong.

“Whether they like it or not but the tape was doctored. It was spliced and they can’t deny it,” she stated in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM.

The third accused, Richard Jakpa last week claimed in court that the Attorney-General had urged him to falsify his testimony against Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to aid the case against him.

The NDC at a press conference on Tuesday subsequently released an audio recording seeking to corroborate allegations that the Attorney-General has been unethical in his prosecution of Jakpa and two others in the Ambulance procurement case.

But the NPP has said the alleged conversation between Mr Jakpa and Mr Dame is doctored and fabricated by the NDC.

In an interview on Accra-based Onua FM, she labelled the claims as baseless and a “non-starter.

She emphasized that, the NPP government has a proven track record of effective governance and is committed to advancing the welfare of all Ghanaians to make it the preferred choice for the nation’s future.

Ms. Manu also challenged the feasibility of the NDC continuing ongoing projects initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration should John Mahama be elected in 2024.

She explained that, the opposition has consistently demonstrated their inability to build and develop the country.

Highlighting the significance of flagship programs like the “One District, One Factory” initiative and the Free Senior High School program in driving economic growth and providing access to basic education for young Ghanaians, she argued that, these interventions could cease once the NDC is elected into power.

The NPP parliamentary candidate expressed concerns over the potential repercussions of a Mahama presidency, citing previous declines in the agriculture sector, trade deficits, and low GDP experienced during his tenure as an example.

She underscored the NPP government’s achievements, including robust economic growth, thriving agricultural initiatives, infrastructure development projects, and social welfare programs.

Comparing the Vice President’s track record to Mahama’s presidency, Ms. Manu asserted that, Dr Bawumia’s strong candidacy for the upcoming presidential election, citing his proven leadership and transformative policies.

She expressed confidence that, Ghanaians will overwhelmingly support Dr Bawumia’s bid for the presidency.

She said the party members should be inspired by the tranquility and unity exhibited by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Kennedy Agyapong after the just ended elections.

Stressing the need for cohesion within the party, Akosua Manu highlighted their peaceful post-election demeanor, emphasizing the significance of their exemplary maturity, which acknowledged the monumental challenge lying ahead—the 2024 general election.

Speaking at a health screening event organized by Kozie Cares Medical Outreach for Lakeside Room 6 Station residents in Adentan Constituency, she said the NPP primaries leading up to the 2024 election was marked by fierce competition between Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent party member and Member of Parliament for Assin Central.

And acknowledging Mr. Agyapong’s personality, she said even though he is known for his strong stance on issues and has a vocal presence within the party, which presented a formidable challenge during the election, he has shown that whatever one puts his mind to with determination, one can achieve and tasked the youth to emulate his tenacity.

Touching on the health screening, Akosua Manu said over 40,000 beneficiaries in the 16 electoral areas in the Adentan Constituency have received vital medical support.

She said upon interaction with some of the beneficiaries, they expressed gratitude for the medical provisions, including medication and eyeglasses, and are anticipated to substantially enhance healthcare in the community, as emphasized by the delighted beneficiaries.

Moreover, Dr. Joel Segbefia, who is part of the Kozie Care Medical Outreach team, highlighted the prevalence of high blood pressure within the community.

He said the Ghana Health Service acknowledges hypertension as a prevalent condition among adults, contributing significantly to non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Segbefia said hypertension if not managed, can put excessive pressure on the heart. This he said can lead to an increased risk of heart diseases, can lead to stroke and damage the blood vessels in the kidneys, also cause vision problems and damage the blood vessels in the eyes which can lead to blindness.

Therefore advocating for regular blood pressure checks, Dr. Segbefia urged residents to purchase blood pressure monitoring devices for home use, aiming to prevent and mitigate the health risks associated with high blood pressure.

Akosua Manu appealed to delegates for their support in the upcoming “Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference” scheduled to take place in orphan constituencies on the 2nd December 2023.

During an informative session, the resource officer, Dr. Adepa Boateng underscored the significance of comprehensive breast health checks and self-examinations as early warning signs of potential issues.

She emphasized the importance of regular check-ups for women and advised them to seek medical examination at health facilities. Importantly, she also addressed a common misconception, stating that while it is uncommon, men are equally at risk of developing breast cancer as women.

This valuable health education session took place during the free health screening organized by the Kozie Cares Outreach Initiative.

Over 600 Adenta residents flocked to the event, seeking comprehensive screenings that included measurements of their body weight, breast screening, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and eyesight.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer. It is against this backdrop that the Kozie Cares Medical Outreach organized this event, specifically catering to residents of the Adenta Constituency, with a particular focus on those residing at the SSNIT flats.

As we navigate the month of breast cancer awareness, these initiatives become critical in equipping communities with essential knowledge about breast health and encouraging early screenings.

According to statistics in Ghana, where over 4,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, the studies show that 70% of women in Ghana are diagnosed at more advanced stages of the disease by the time it is identified . The Ghana Health Service, has established that breast cancer remains a significant concern. In 2023, several women have either lost their lives or been diagnosed with breast cancer, highlighting the urgency of proactive health education and screenings.

One female beneficiary of the Kozie Cares Medical Outreach program, who had the opportunity to receive a free breast screening expressed her profound gratitude to the Member of Parliament hopeful, Akosua Manu. Overwhelmed with appreciation, she shared how this initiative has not only given her access to vital healthcare service but has also eased the financial burden of medical expenses. Her heartfelt thanks resonated with the sentiment of others who benefited from the programme, recognizing it as a significant support to the community’s well-being.

Another gentleman, whose eyes were meticulously examined during the outreach, received the gift of improved vision in the form of free medicated glasses. He couldn’t contain his happiness and was effusive in his praise for the Kozie Cares Medical Outreach team. His new found clarity of sight is a testament to the positive impact these health initiatives have on individual lives, underlining the importance of such programmes in enhancing the overall health and quality of life for the community.

The Kozie Cares Medical Outreach’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of Adenta residents is commendable, and such initiatives can make a substantial difference in the fight against breast cancer. As the month of awareness continues, their efforts serve as a beacon of hope for the community, emphasizing the importance of early detection and promoting overall health and wellness.

Kozie Cares Medical Outreach is dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of the constituents and not compromise on the fundamental healthcare right of the residents in the constituency.

Akosua Manu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary hopeful who is the primary representative of the Kozie Cares Medical Outreach is not only interested to lead the constituency but also to unite the party. OccupyBoG demo: Dr. Addison’s comment worrying – Akosua Manu http://34.58.148.58/occupybog-demo-bogs-addison-comment-worrying-akosua-manu/ Thu, 05 Oct 2023 21:35:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2302771 Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Akosua Manu, has said the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Ernest Addison’s description of protestors as hooligans is worrying.

According to the Adentan New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant, the basis of a demonstration may always not be clear.

However, she said Dr Addison cannot invalidate people’s concerns as unimportant or irrelevant.

Akosua Manu made these remarks on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

“The hooligan comment is worrying and I don’t like what he said but if the NDC is asking for the Governor to resign, he didn’t appoint himself,” she said.

Dr Addison over the last 24 hours has come under condemnation over his response to the #occupyBoG protesters and calls for his resignation.

The Governor has been quoted by a portal, centralbanking.com to have said in an interview that he would not resign from his position following the Minority’s protest on Tuesday.

He reportedly said the demonstration was completely unnecessary, adding that neither him nor his deputies will leave their jobs.

He further called the demonstrators as hooligans who should have known how to better address their grievances.

The Minority has since described the comments as provocative.

Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga said he is surprised at Dr Addison’s behaviour since the Minority was civil in their demand for his resignation.

But in the view of Akosua Manu, Dr Addison despite the concerns raised has achieved a lot and those feats cannot be taken away from him.

The move was to seek their support, and blessings and also to announce her ambition to the chiefs to become a Parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Adentan Constituency after filing the nomination forms to contest the upcoming parliamentary primary.

Accompanied by some of the party delegates, she used the opportunity to donate some items to the chiefs at the various communities visited.

In a brief remark, she started with the usual Homowo greetings of ‘Afi oo afi’ before explaining the purpose of her visit; to pay homage to the chiefs.

The Aspiring NPP Parliamentary candidate for Adenta noted that government would promote an agenda that would be beneficial to the whole of the country and ensure greater national inclusiveness.

She further encouraged the traditional leaders to keep up with the good initiatives being undertaken in the area by the Akufo-Addo-led government, with a pledge to be a partner in that regard.

The chiefs also used the occasion to seek blessings, good health, and prosperity from the ancestors for her on her political journey.

The Ga people celebrate Homowo which is translated as ‘hooting at hunger’ in remembrance of a devastating famine arising from a drought that occurred in their history in precolonial Ghana. The festival starts in August with the planting of crops (mainly maize and yam) before the rainy season starts.

During this period, noise-making is prohibited or banned since it is believed that it will hinder the maturity of the crops.

Though it is a Ga traditional festival, many other ethnic groups also partake in the celebrations.

The date coincided with her 40th birthday.

Party supporters, braving the pouring rain, came out in full force to support her bid to become the parliamentary candidate for the 2024 elections.

Addressing an enthusiastic rally of party supporters at the constituency party office, Kozie called for unity among all factions, urging them to rally behind the victor in the upcoming contest.

Her central theme focused on the need to set aside past differences and forge a strong, unified front to recapture the Adentan seat from the NDC.

She made poignant references to the disarray and lack of unity that plagued the party leading up to the 2020 elections, which ultimately resulted in losing the seat to the NDC.

“Unity is our strength; together, we can achieve greatness. Let us put our differences behind us and stand united as one NPP family to reclaim the Adentan seat,” Kozie passionately declared at the rally.

In a later interview on PM Express on JoyNews, hosted by Evans Mensah, Akosua Manu emphasised that the disunity in the party emerged after the 2020 primaries when some party actors, disappointed by their loss and that of their preferred candidate, caused divisions within the ranks.

“We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. Disunity cost us the Adentan seat in 2020, but we must learn from our experiences and work together harmoniously,” Kozie urged during the TV conversation.

Throughout the rally and the TV interview, Kozie’s unifying disposition and strong human relations shone through.

She stressed that her popularity among the delegates was not only a result of her commendable leadership qualities but also her commitment to the party’s success.

Notably, she refrained from engaging in the skirmishes that marred the 2020 elections but instead dedicated her efforts to support the NPP through her GOOD WOMAN VOTE campaign initiative and generous donations to the party.

“Unity is not just a word; it is the key to our victory. I am ready to lead by example and work tirelessly to foster unity within our ranks,” Kozie affirmed, showing her dedication to the cause.

As the NPP gears up for the parliamentary primaries in the Adentan Constituency, Akosua Manu’s call for unity and her unwavering commitment to hard work provide a beacon of hope for the party’s success.

The challenge now lies with the party faithful at Adentan to come together, put 2020 behind them, and present a formidable front that will pave the way for a triumphant return to power in the 2024 elections.

Pay attention to professional conduct in social media exchanges – Akosua Manu advises http://34.58.148.58/pay-attention-to-professional-conduct-in-social-media-exchanges-akosua-manu-advises/ Fri, 31 Mar 2023 08:46:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2234746 The Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration at the National Youth Authority Akosua Manu, has advised the youth to exercise caution when communicating with individuals in positions of authority, particularly on social media platforms such as WhatsApp.

According to Madam Manu, it is improper and unprofessional to use slang, shorthand, and endearing terms when conversing with superiors.

She cited an incident involving a young man who was seeking employment and addressed a company executive with “Hello Dear” in a WhatsApp message.

Despite being corrected, she said the young man failed to apologise for his mistake and went on to ask for a positive response on his submission.

Akosua Manu believes that this type of behavior is widespread among some young people who are unaware of the distinction between personal and professional communication.

She expressed concern that social media has removed the lines that require etiquette and professional conduct.

To address this issue, Akosua Manu called on parents, facilitators and teachers to teach these skills on how to communicate respectfully and effectively with their elders and those in positions of authority.

She emphasized that seeking opportunities should not come at the expense of etiquette.
