Their appeal follows the layoff of 35 workers due to delays in securing the final certification required for large-scale production.

Speaking to Adom News, the traders and affected workers explained that the factory was established to process plantain into flour and other value-added products. However, without full regulatory clearance, operations have stalled, leaving employees and suppliers uncertain about the future.

They said the delay has disrupted business for plantain traders who had anticipated a ready market for their produce. According to them, swift intervention by the FDA would allow the factory to resume operations, create employment opportunities, and reduce post-harvest losses.

The processing plant is part of the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative, introduced to promote industrialisation and address challenges such as high rates of plantain spoilage due to inadequate storage and processing facilities.

Once fully operational, the factory is expected to generate jobs for residents and provide a stable market for farmers in Agogo and surrounding communities, thereby strengthening the local economy.

Although there were earlier indications that the facility would commence operations in 2024, final certification remains pending before commercial production can begin.

Director of the factory, Obeng Poku, also told Adom News that relevant stakeholders must support efforts to secure the necessary approval and revive the project.

Kick2Build commissions five libraries in Klo Agogo, donates school supplies http://34.58.148.58/kick2build-commissions-five-libraries-in-klo-agogo-donates-school-supplies/ Mon, 23 Dec 2024 13:45:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2487025 Kick2Build Foundation, a non-profit organization, has commissioned five modern libraries for five basic schools in Klo Agogo, located in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The foundation also donated school bags and books to benefit the schoolchildren.

The beneficiary schools include:

  • Klo Agogo M/A Basic School
  • Klo Agogo Anglican School
  • Klo Agogo Presby School
  • Klo Agogo R/C School
  • Trawa R/C Primary School

These projects, situated in one of Ghana’s rural communities, aim to improve students’ reading skills and overall academic performance.

The area has been grappling with low student performance, which poses significant challenges for both teaching and learning.

Speaking at the commissioning, Nana Konadu Boakye, CEO of Kick2Build Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s mission to foster a culture of reading and support academic excellence in underserved communities.

“We came here last year to donate some books, and we realized that these schools lack libraries. After school, the kids just go home. We decided to build these libraries so they can stay after school for teachers to guide them with their homework. They will also have access to books to improve their reading and writing skills,” he explained.

Nana Konadu Boakye further highlighted that the initiative was a collaborative effort between two schools in the United States—Mesa Elementary School and Bear Creek Elementary School in Boulder, Colorado.

“Our long-term goal is to establish a partnership between schools in Ghana and the USA, offering students the opportunity to participate in exchange programs and pen pal initiatives. This affiliation will expose them to diverse educational practices, and teachers will also gain insights from the American education system through cultural exchanges,” he added.

Frank Narh, the Ghana Education Service (GES) Circuit Supervisor for the area, described the intervention as a significant milestone for the community.

“Children in these rural areas now have a place to come and read, as schools here have never had libraries. This is the first of its kind, and I believe it will greatly enhance their learning skills,” he remarked.

The Kick2Build Foundation’s initiative is expected to create a lasting impact by addressing the educational needs of children in Klo Agogo and bridging the gap between rural and urban schools.

Agogo residents protest over closure of Salt FM by NCA http://34.58.148.58/agogo-residents-protest-over-closure-of-salt-fm-by-nca/ Wed, 07 Feb 2024 08:38:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2352611 There is an uneasy calm at Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti region following the forceful closure of Salt FM.

A team from the National Communications Authority (NCA) visited the station on Tuesday, February 6, to ostensibly shut down the station over the non-renewal of its authorisation license.

The officers besieged the premises of the radio station demanding a total shutdown. This infuriated some residents of Agogo, who staged a demonstration to resist the closure.

Moments before the health walk on Sunday, security officers stopped organisers citing a breach of the Public Order Act, implying that they had not notified the police about the public gathering and the walk through the streets.

The closure of the radio station has added to the speculative discussions in Agogo as part of attempts to stop Mr Frimpong from contesting as an independent candidate in the upcoming general elections.

Management of the Station is yet to officially communicate to the public.

The owner of the station, Ohene Kwame Frimpong is said to have planned a health walk in Agogo last Sunday, February 4, 2024.

But that health walk was also stopped by the security agencies at the 11th hour, citing the Public Order Act, with the explanation that he had not notified the police about the gathering and the walk through the streets.

The closure of the radio station has added to speculative discussions in Agogo.

On Tuesday afternoon, many people in Agogo gathered at the frontage of the radio station to inquire about what was happening.

Some youth wearing red arm bands danced to brass band music at the frontage of the radio station.

Agogohene made Planting for Food and Jobs Ambassador http://34.58.148.58/agogohene-made-planting-for-food-and-jobs-ambassador/ Mon, 22 Nov 2021 14:21:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2047492 The Chief of Agogo, Nana Akuako Sarpong, has been made an ambassador to the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme, in recognition of his support for the flagship programme of the ministry.

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, announced this at the second edition of the Plantain Festival.

He said the institution of the Plantain Festival by the Agogo Traditional Council, headed by Nana Akuoko Sarpong, had lent a lot of support to the programme and made most of the residents of Agogo go into plantain production.

The Agogomanhene has for sometime now been a leading producer of plantain in the country and has for the past five years or so been exporting the produce to neighbouring countries.

Festival

The minister, who announced this at this year’s Plantain Festival at Agogo, said as the government continued to give support to plantain cultivation in the area, it would equally support the setting up of a plantain chips factory in the area.

He said the machines for the factory were being imported from Brazil and said latest by December, the machines would be in the country for the start of the factory.

Revenues

According to him, the cultivation of plantain in commercial qualities had generated lots of employment for people in the area.

From drivers, car owners to the loading boys who have all gained employment due to the booming plantain business in the area.

Demand

Dr Akoto said there was a high demand for plantains from Agogo such that the traders from Ghana have their own market in Burkina Faso and their produce sold higher than those from Cote d’Ivoire and Togo, who also exported their produce there.

He commended the traditional council for leading the way and marshalling the people to go into farming.

Agogohene

Addressing the durbar to mark the festival, Nana Akuoko Sarpong said the people of Agogo had been cultivating plantain for a long time and when the government launched its flagship PFJ programme, the traditional council decided to support it by organising the festival to promote the crop and also as a way to acknowledge the effort of the farmers.

He said the festival was more important to encourage the cultivation of the crop and also create jobs for the people.

He said through the promotion of the cultivation of plantain, most of the residents now had a livelihood as a lot of jobs had been created in the plantain value chain.

Lavish funerals banned at Agogo http://34.58.148.58/lavish-funerals-banned-at-agogo/ Wed, 08 Sep 2021 17:23:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2012202 The Agogo Traditional Council has introduced sweeping measures to curb expensive funerals in the traditional area.

Among the measures are a ban on the performance of widowhood rites and the use of beer and other drinks to serve mourners.

In addition, special cloths and t-shirts cannot be used at any funeral within the traditional area, while the age-old one-week observance of the passing of a person, which in recent years has seen massive spending by bereaved families and well-wishers, must only be a family gathering from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Council meeting

The reforms were arrived at during a meeting of the traditional council at Agogo in the Ashanti Region last Sunday.

The meeting, which was chaired by the Omanhene of the Agogo Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, evaluated a month’s piloting of the reforms and arrived at the conclusion that the reforms led to a drastic cut in the cost of funerals and, therefore, were worth scaling it up across the entire traditional area.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Akyeamehene (Chief Linguist of the Omanhene), Nana Boakye Yiadom, explained that the council reached the conclusion that lavish spending had no place in the performance of funerals, especially in present times.

He said in order not to make the measures an imposition, the public was consulted, in addition to the one-month successful piloting.

Widowhood rites

Although widowhood rites have, over the years, undergone some considerable degree of reforms in the Agogo Traditional Area, and by extension the Ashanti Region, with the removal of several abuses, the financial cost involved in what remains of the old cultural practice is still unbearable to many.

It was against that background that the chief linguist said the traditional council moved to scrap the unproductive cultural practice.

With that development, ‘asiedeε’ (burial items) and ‘adekyerε’ (parading various items, including expensive drinks) during final funeral rites have been removed from the performance of funerals in the traditional area.

Nana Yiadom said most of the time, the widow or the widower was left in debt, after hiring expensive drinks and other items just to “show off” at the funeral grounds.

“It is unacceptable that many people defy their poverty to stage lavish funerals, and Nananom will no longer tolerate that,” he said.

Water

On the abolition of drinks, Nana Yiadom said in their place, water would now be used to serve mourners at funeral grounds.

He explained that many a time, bereaved families spent so much on drinks, without recouping their expenses.

“We are doing this because we want bereaved families to cut unnecessary spending on drinks,” he said.

Special cloth & T-shirts

Other intolerable funeral costs, according to the traditional council, were incurred in the purchase of special funeral cloths and T-shirts.

Wearing special cloths and T-shirts for a funeral, in the estimation of the traditional council, had no place in current times and must be discarded.

Sanctions

The Akyeamehene said it was an offence for anybody to flout any of the new measures, and that offenders would be brought before the traditional council to answer for their acts.

He said with the education and the general acceptance, indications were that the people would support the council to ensure sanity in the system.

About 49 people have been killed and many acres of farms have been destroyed by the Fulani herdsmen.

Government, in an attempt to solve the menace formed police and military team to deal with the menace through a program called Operation Cow Leg.

The District Chief Executive of Asanti Akyem North, Francis Oti Boateng told Adom News’ Kwame Kulenu that about 95 percent of the Fulani herdsmen have been cleared and the remaining five percent are those from other districts who cross boundaries into Agogo at night and graze on peoples farms.

“We are still faced with the Fulani saga because the security team here only do day times while some of the Fulani herdsmen take their cattle grazing at night,” he said.

The DCE said this when World Vision Ghana and a team of journalists visited him during a tour in the District.

Francis Oti Boateng said herdsmen have been shooting at security men even during the day and night.

“We don’t know what can happen in the night after some police and military men were shot in broad daylight.”

He said they are therefore re-strategizing on how to fight the menace.

He, however, congratulated World Vision for the numerous projects they have done in the area.

The DCE explained that the Assembly budgeted to drill a borehole for four communities, but before they got there to do a survey, World Vision had already dug some for all the proposed four communities.

According to him, each of the boreholes could have cost GHC8,000 so this intervention by World Vision has saved them GHC32,000.

He stated that in fulfilment of the pledge he made in the run-up to the 2016 elections, his government has begun the construction of ranches across the country.

Speaking at Adaklu on day 2 of his 3-day tour of the Volta Region, at the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a multi-purpose youth and sports resource centre, he said the first ranch has been established at the Afram Plains.

“We have chosen several sites around the country where we are going to establish these rances in order to bring the cattle into safe, secure environment so that the desecration of the land you are witnessing here will be a thing of the past,” he said.

The President assured the Chiefs and people of Adaklu that “we have begun the first one, and we will continue. I know one is scheduled to be set up for this area.”

The Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, who was present at the ceremony told the residents the construction of the multi-purpose youth and sports centres of excellence in the 10 regions of the country is being done at the behest of President Akufo-Addo.

The deliberate provision of these facilities, the Minister stressed, “has never happened before in this country. It is a major intervention by the President in making sure that we have modern sporting facilities across the country.”

With the initial design for the Adaklu Youth and Sports Resource Centre meant to have a 5,000-seating capacity, Isaac Asiamah noted that with the intervention of the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, the Adaklu facility will now have a 10,000-seating capacity.

“This is not just a sports stadium, it is more than a sports stadium because of its additional facilities. When it is completed, it will have a FIFA-standard football pitch, a modern 9-lane athletics track, tennis courts, basketball, handball and volleyball courts, and a modern gymnasium,” he revealed.

Additionally, the facility, the Minister said, has been fitted with a counselling centre, an ICT centre, an entrepreneurship centre and a modern restaurant.

To the President, Isaac Asiamah stated that “What you are doing, within 4 years of your administration, in terms of sports infrastructure and youth facilities, has never happened in the country. You will be remembered tomorrow as the President who provided modern sporting facilities in the country.”

All ten projects, the Sports Minister assured, will be commissioned April of 2019, after which the next phase of construction for 10 more youth and sports development centres will begin.

On his part, President Akufo-Addo noted that, apart from his government’s determination to create opportunities for Ghanaian youth to find work, “they must have places of recreation and for developing their sporting prowess. This multi-purpose resource centre will respond to that need.”

Why the Fulani herders worship cows http://34.58.148.58/fulani-herders-worship-cows/ Sun, 11 Feb 2018 09:11:04 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=920061 Alhaji Garius Gololo, the Coordinator of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State chapter, has revealed why his people worship cows.
When the co-ordinator was asked in a chat if it is true that the Fulani herdsmen worship their cows besides God. he responded saying;
“Ah, ah, why won’t you worship what you are gaining from? They worship God, but they depend on their cow.
Read Anas Aremeyaw Anas loses mum
If you want to marry, it’s from that cow; if you are going to the hospital, it’s from that cow, if you want to eat, it’s from that cow. So, for people to say Fulani worship cows, its clear; they must, because it’s from it they make their living and you should also understand that these people have no other major business than this, so what would you think could come of them if they fail in giving their cows the best attention”.
He was asked why the Fulani Herdsmen have not embraced modern technologies to breed their livestock and rather opt for the old system of nomadic cattle breeding. He says:

“Fulani does not need road, they don’t need electricity, and they don’t need a big house. They live with the cow. But now in Nigeria, not only Benue, people are against herdsmen.

In a place like Zamfara, it’s not herdsmen; it is criminals versus criminals. Recently, I was in Zamfara when they fought.
Read HOT VIDEOS: Bukom Banku slams politicians over Ebony’s death
There are no more Fulani herdsmen in Zamfara because they all ran away with the cattle as a result of incessant attacks after the return of a notorious criminal and members of his gang who terrorized them. But whenever anything happens, they say it’s Fulani.

The point is that they are against the Federal Government, not the ordinary Fulani. Because the president is a Fulani and most Nigerians are against him, anything that happens, they say it’s Fulani.”

Cattle owners at Agogo are complying with the eviction order to move their animals out of the area following deployment of a police-military team.
They say they have no option but to leave under the current circumstances, following an alleged attack on security personnel by herdsmen resulting in loss of lives.
The police-military team at Agogo says it is on course to moving all herdsmen and their cattle from the area.
A decision by the Asante-Akyem North District Assembly to include cattle belonging to local farmers in the eviction was upheld by the Ashanti Regional Security Council.

The land operation is aided by aerial surveillance with the deployment of three helicopters which give no hiding place for herdsmen.
Some cattle owners say the only way out for them is to evacuate their cattle from Agogo.
A Malian, Omar Farouk is one of them. Whilst awaiting a truck to cart his cattle to an undisclosed location, he the reporter he will be happy once his cattle are out of Agogo.
“I have arranged for a truck to cart my cattle,” he said.
Farmers in nomadic herdsmen-invaded areas are happy at the development.

They say they can go to their farms without fear because there are no cattle to disturb them.
Nana Kofi Yamoah, former District Chief Farmer, lives at Bebome, one of the areas besieged by cattle.
“At first the farmers had to go to their farms in groups but the situation has improved,” he sa.
The Head of Operation Cowleg Team, Chief Superintendent Prince Jude Cobbinah has described the ongoing operation as a success.
“It’s been absolutely successful because we follow up each day after we’ve cleared them from where we initially saw them and our intelligence men on the ground. Interactions with the various opinion leaders and the inhabitants attest to the fact that things have gone done well.”
Despite the success chalked so far, there are about 40,000 cattle left to be pushed out of Agogo.
District Chief Executive, Francis Oti Boateng, however, has vowed that not a single cow would be left in Agogo.
“The word is total evacuation. No cattle would be left out,” he said.
But where are the cattle going after they have been evacuated from Agogo, the reporter quizzed the DCE
That is not the immediate concern of the Assembly, Mr. Oti Boateng retorted.
“Where did they come from? They should go back to where they came from. We don’t need them in Agogo,” he stated.

Hundreds of cattle flee Agogo as police-military team intensify operations http://34.58.148.58/hundreds-cattle-flee-agogo-police-military-team-intensify-operations/ http://34.58.148.58/hundreds-cattle-flee-agogo-police-military-team-intensify-operations/#comments Tue, 16 Jan 2018 13:12:44 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=842041 Hundreds of herdsmen and their cattle are voluntarily leaving Agogo area of the Ashanti Region as the police and military reinforcement begins work.
Deployment of helicopters to facilitate land and aerial surveillance by the Operation Cowleg force means there is no hiding place for the nomads and herds.
At least, 143 police personnel and officers deployed from Accra and Kumasi are collaborating with their military counterparts to flush them out of Agogo.
The Agogo area, until now, was home to hundreds of unwelcome herdsmen whose cattle graze on fields of barren and cultivated land.
After years of confrontation with natives with the attendant loss of lives and property, truckloads of cattle have begun leaving the area.
One of them is Omar Farouk.
For fear of being arrested by the police-military team, he has arranged for an articulated truck to transport over 500 cattle to an undisclosed location.
He says he has been living in fear over the presence of the Operation Cowleg team.
The police-military team is happy about the development.
Chief Superintendent Prince Jude Cobbinah is in charge of Operation Cowleg.
“All the locations, through information we visited, we realise that with the information of coming to force of the taskforce, they have started migrating to the Afram Plains.
We are still on the lookout because we have intel [intelligence] group on the ground to still look out for the few who are within the community of which we suspect might still be a threat  to the communities.”
Chief Supt. Cobbinah says the team is resolved to live up to its core mandate of flushing out cattle from Agogo.
“We don’t believe whether it is local who owns the cattle or foreigner. The most important thing is that farm crops are being destroyed so we must be able to ensure that that thing ceases. So we push every cattle out of the system so that the existing problem can be solved.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appeatu, and Chief of Defence Staff, Major -General Obed Akwa, are due in Agogo on Tuesday.

PHOTOS: Euphoria grips Agogo as police-military team begin operations http://34.58.148.58/photos-euphoria-grips-agogo-police-military-team-begin-operations/ Mon, 15 Jan 2018 10:24:42 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=836971 Residents of Agogo are ecstatic over deployment of police-military reinforcement to flush out nomadic herdsmen and their cattle from the area.
Many people lined up on the streets out of joy to cheer the security personnel up on arrival.
The deployment follows a Joy News Hotline documentary “Violent Shepherds”, a seven-month investigative piece which highlighted what has become national security issue.
From Agogo in Ashanti, Kwahu East in Eastern, Kintampo and Berekum in Bono Ahafo Ashanti, Eastern and Bono Ahafo Regions farmers and other residents have endured pain.
Loss of lives, sexual abuse, and destruction of crops are among ordeal visited on local by nomadic herdsmen.

The arrival of the police-military team in Agogo means relief, especially, for farmers who had been restrained from going to farm following gun attack on the Operation Cowleg team.
Three military officers and a policeman who were responding to a distress call from a woman whose farm was being destroyed were ambushed and shot at by armed herdsmen.
Operations of the 248 personnel will cover land and air surveillance, aided by three Ghana Air Force helicopters.
Residents, some of whom were seeing a helicopter for the first time, besieged the Agogo State College airfield to catch a glimpse of the team.

Take-off by one of the aircraft saw a chaotic scene as clouds of dust covered the atmosphere.
It however did little to scare the excited crowd which was anxious to see what was next as residents line up by the roadside to cheer the team up in ecstasy.
Residents of Agogo have every reason to be happy.
Repeated killing of natives and nomadic herdsmen in repeated clashes since 2011 plunged the area into insecurity.
Many of them have lost their livelihoods.
Krontihene of Agogo, Nana Kwame Nti is among the elated residents.

“We are experiencing something new. There’s a helicopter monitoring the movement of herdsmen and their cattle. The herdsmen know their days are numbered. Indeed this government is our saviour,” he said in ecstasy.
He continued, “The support we are enjoying today is unprecedented.
I can rest peacefully if f I die today because there is peace in Agogo.”
Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, is hopeful the exercise would be a one-stop attempt to push-out herdsmen from Agogo land.
“We have seen operations in the past and there appears to be a trend of every year we celebrate an anniversary of the previous.
I want to believe that this is the finality of all such anniversaries.”
There are, however, concerns about sustainability of the exercise to bring lasting relief to people of Agogo.
But the District Chief Executive who also chairs the District Security Committee Francis Oti-Boateng says the exercise will be sustained.

“The men [police-military team] are going to be here as long as the Fulanis are also here. So until they leave, we are not going to allow them operate on our land.
I can assure you in two weeks, you will see no cattle or Fulaniman on our land”

Andy Appiah Kubi blamed the commander for the worsening security crisis involving nomadic herdsmen in the area.
ASP Samuel Azugu was relieved of his post following allegations that he owns cows which are under the care of Fulani herdsmen.
His new replacement has been announced by the police service as DSP Joe Appiah.
ASP Azugu transfer comes after the community leaders at Agogo in the Asante Akim North district of the Ashanti region said they have lost confidence in the police commander.
In support, the MP for the area said he was happy with the transfer because the commander was complicit in the security crisis that has claimed many lives in the area.
Due to the unprofessional conduct of ASP Azugu, he noted that “even dogs here in Agogo don’t want to work with him. He didn’t help us. He could not help us”.
Hon. Appiah Kubi said they have evidence to back all the allegations being leveled against the Police Commander but will provide at the appropriate platform.
“The District Commander is inciting the herdsmen against our people. We have evidence that the herdsmen bring him beef. The commander also has cattle which the herdsmen are rearing for him,” the NPP MP said.
The Asante Akyem North MP thanked the both Divisional and Regional Police Command for granting their request to replace the district commander.
Hon. Appiah Kubi pledged his unflinching support for the new Police Commander, DSP Joe Appiah to ensure they win the Fulani fight.

His warning follows the shooting of three military men and a police officer by Fulani Herdsmen at Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident is believed to happen on Monday January 8, 2018 at about 2:30 pm Monday when the soldiers stormed the grazing where the Fulani Herdsmen feed their cattle.
The soldiers were shot during an exchange of gunfire with the Fulani Herdsmen.
According to reports, two out of the five soldiers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Agogo Presbyterian hospital for treatment.
Two of the herdsmen have reportedly been arrested by Agogo District Command.
But reacting to the issue on Accra based Kasapa FM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018, the veteran highlife musician, who was recently installed a chief at Agogo urged the people of Agogo to take the law into their own hands and defend themselves, because the National Security has failed to intervene in the rampant killing.
“I’m very sad about the happenings in Agogo. I have used all means to make sure that this issue is settled but all to no avail and I think it has become very worse and the only solution now is for them to take the law into their own hands because government has failed.
“They should sack all cattle in the town because we don’t need them in Agogo” he fumed.
The celebrated musician appealed to the government to follow the road map drawn to ensure peace in the area, and that the nomads must not be allowed to stay and destroy farmlands.

Agogo DCE celebrating Christmas with my cattle – Alhaji Grusah http://34.58.148.58/agogo-dce-celebrating-christmas-cattle-alhaji-grusah/ http://34.58.148.58/agogo-dce-celebrating-christmas-cattle-alhaji-grusah/#comments Wed, 27 Dec 2017 15:56:25 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=795951 The District Chief Executive for Agogo in the Ashanti region, Francis Oti Boateng has been accused of killing cattle and sharing the meat for people in the town.
One of the affected herdsmen, Alhaji Abdul Karim Grusah said “they are killing the cows and sharing to the people.”
The distraught cattle owner on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday claimed the DCE under the guise of ‘Operation Cow Leg’ to sack cattle who had been destroying farmlands is rather “stealing his cows and doling them out as gifts”.
In all, Alhaji Grusah said he has lost 15 cows majority of which have been slaughtered and shared to residents t mark the festive season.
He said the officers had gone to the Agogo Township to sack cattle who had been destroying farmlands but was forced to shoot and kill the cattle who suddenly charged on them.
“I have given everything to God. The DCE is a thief; he has stolen my cows but those who have given him the power should continue” he bemoaned.
Alhaji Grusah said they have a court ruling which demarcated the lands for them thus cannot be evicted from the land.
In a rebuttal, President of Agogo Youth Association, Emmanuel Buabeng called the bluff of Alhaji Grusah
He, however, admitted that the cattle were shot at only because the herdsmen refused to keep them off people’s farms.
Emmanuel Buabeng explained that, the Fulani herdsmen with their cattle, destroyed farmlands and taken away from the Agogo indigenes their only source of livelihood.
He added that the police will not allow that to continue.
“The indigenes of Agogo deserve to be given the chance to embark on their farming activities that is the only way they can cater for themselves and their families.
“The cattle have committed a lot of atrocities on my people. 40 people have died as a result and they are still destroying people’s farms.”
Emmanuel Buabeng vowed to ensure all the cattle on their land are removed for indigenes to have their freedom to farm.

Agogo cattle were shot in self-defense- Police http://34.58.148.58/agogo-cattle-shot-self-defense-police/ Tue, 26 Dec 2017 19:33:49 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=794491 The Konogo Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Supt. George Ohene-Boadi Bossman says officers were compelled to shoot at cattle in Agogo after herdsmen commanded them to charge on police.
He said the officers had gone to the Agogo township to sack cattle who had been destroying farmlands but was forced to shoot and kill the cattle who suddenly charged on them.
Speaking on the Midday News after nomadic herdsmen in Agogo accused the District Chief Executive (DCE) and police of deliberately killing about 200 of their animals, he said they acted in self-defense.
One of the affected herdsmen, Alhaji Grusah said “they are killing the cows and sharing to the people.”
But Supt Bossman said  “Anytime we go to the field to drive them away, they speak to the cattle and they charge on us. So if they are charging at us, should we stand for the cattle to kill us,” Supt. Bossman said.
He however said 200 was an exaggeration, and that the number was lesser although he could not give the right figure.
Supt. Bossman said the herdsmen have refused to stop their cattle from grazing on people’s farms.
They have, with their cattle, destroyed farmlands and taken away from the Agogo indigenes their only source of livelihood, he said.
He added that the police will not allow that to continue.
“The indigenes of Agogo deserve to be given the chance to embark on their farming activities, that is the only way they can cater for themselves and their families.
“These people go to banks to take loans to develop their farms and the cattle should not be allowed to destroy them,” he said.
The DCE Francis Oti Boateng also denied accusations that he ordered the police to embark on a shooting spree.
He, however, admitted that the cattle were shot at only because the herdsmen refused to keep them off people’s farms.
“The cattle have committed a lot of atrocities on my people. 40 people have died as a result and they are still destroying people’s farms.”
He said after five months of grace period for the herdsmen to confine the cattle and reduce destruction, the only option left is to drive them out of the town.
“If any cattle has been killed, it is as a result of self defense,” the DCE added.
