The incident occurred when the collation of parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency was expected to resume.

Louvre blades and other properties at the EC’s old head office were destroyed by suspected thugs of the NDC.

In a statement, the EC alleged that the NDC official led the group in the invasion and vandalism.

The statement also reported the alarming presence of two unidentified individuals dressed in military attire during the chaos.

It added that staff at the New Corporate Head Office reported threats from the attackers, raising further concerns over their safety.

Expressing concern and disappointment in the lack of security support from the police, the EC bemoaned the incident has further delayed the collation and declaration of results for Ablekuma North.

Meanwhile, the Commission is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

The incident occurred on Friday morning as the exercise, which had been suspended multiple times due to protracted chaos, was expected to resume.

Adom News’ Prince Owusu reported from the EC office that the suspects are believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as they wore party t-shirts.

The angry group stormed the EC office, ordering everyone to vacate, and began destroying louvre blades, doors, and other properties.

However, the motive behind the attack is unclear, and the EC has yet to officially comment on it.

Military deployed as EC orders resumption of Ablekuma North collation http://34.58.148.58/military-deployed-as-ec-orders-resumption-of-ablekuma-north-collation/ Tue, 10 Dec 2024 13:57:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2482009 The Electoral Commission (EC) has directed the resumption of the collation process for the Ablekuma North results at the Greater Accra Regional Collation Centre.

This decision follows heightened tensions as National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters gathered outside the premises, alleging attempts to subvert the electoral process.

Inside the collation centre, a heated standoff ensued between candidates of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with both sides accusing each other of undermining the will of the people.

Earlier today, the collation process was suspended for the second time, halting proceedings after results from 219 out of the 281 polling stations had been collated.

The initial suspension occurred on Monday during the midway point of the collation process.

Jean Mensa had suspended the help processes of nine unresolved parliamentary disputes across the country until further notice.

But speaking to JoyNews, NDC former Deputy General Secretary Peter Otokunor disclosed that the EC Chairperson has intervened, instructing officials to continue with the collation process.

On the back of that, the officials have returned to the room to crunch the figures once again.

But the process is yet to resume as confusion has erupted among the party officials there as well. There are heated exchanges that have left some louver blades shattered.

Meanwhile, a large crowd of NDC supporters has massed outside the collation centre, demanding the immediate announcement of the results.

To maintain order, military personnel have been deployed to reinforce the police presence and ensure calm within the area.
