The quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu combined seamlessly to eclipse their own previous record of 38.07s, set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

Their performance not only secured first place in their heat but also positioned them ahead of traditional sprinting powerhouses.

Among the teams standing in their way are Canada and the United States. Canada, who won gold in Eugene three years ago when Ghana last broke the national record, clocked 37.85s in the heats, the second-fastest time overall.

The United States qualified with 37.98s, while the Netherlands (37.95s), Japan (38.07s), Germany (38.12s), Australia (38.21s), and France (38.34s) complete the line-up for the final.

With the eight fastest nations in the world set to compete, Ghana will be seeking to translate their record-breaking momentum into a historic podium finish.

2025 World Athletics Championships: Team Ghana break national record to reach 4x100m Relay final http://34.58.148.58/2025-world-athletics-championships-team-ghana-break-national-record-to-reach-4x100m-relay-final/ Sat, 20 Sep 2025 12:20:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2580819 Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team produced a stunning performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, storming to victory in Heat 2 with a new national record of 37.79s to qualify for the final.

Running in Heat 2, the Ghanaian quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu combined precision with explosive speed to deliver one of the nation’s greatest relay runs on the global stage. Their time eclipsed the previous record of 38.07s set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

Starting from the blocks, Ibrahim Fuseini gave Ghana a steady opening leg, clocking 10.57s to hand over the baton cleanly. Though not the quickest starter in the field, Fuseini’s composed run set the platform for what followed.

On the back straight, Benjamin Azamati unleashed his trademark speed, covering his leg in a blistering 8.74s, the fastest by any athlete on the track. His surge powered Ghana into contention, moving them up alongside The Netherlands and Japan.

The third leg was taken up by Joseph Paul Amoah, who anchored to team to set the previous record. His smooth bend-running and strong acceleration as he split 9.41s before exchanging for the anchor, Abdul Rasheed Saminu, finalist in the 100m on Day 1 of this year’s championships.

He blazed down the home straight, running 9.07s to cross the line first and secure qualification with the fastest time across the heats.

Ghana’s 37.79s (NR) led all qualifiers, followed closely by Canada (37.85s, SB) as they won Heat 1, the Netherlands (37.95s), and the United States (37.98s). Japan, Germany, Australia, and France completed the list of finalists.

Sports Minster asks for report on Ghana’s disqualification at Commonwealth Games http://34.58.148.58/sports-minster-asks-for-report-on-ghanas-disqualification-at-commonwealth-games/ Mon, 08 Aug 2022 13:06:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2146790 The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has demanded an explanation from Ghana’s International Games Committee and Chef De Mission for the disqualification of the men’s 4×100m quartet.

Ghana secured a final ticket with a run of 39.05s in the heats to reach the final but was bizarrely disqualified over what the Ghana Athletics Association described as ‘technical oversight.’

This explanation appears unconvincing to the Minister, and he has asked the Games Committee to present to his office a report of what caused the gaffe.

“On the earlier faux pas [of] 4×100 final race disqualification, I’ve asked the International Games Committee and the Chef de Mission to provide an exclusive report to my office about that incident,” he wrote on his Facebook page after extending a congratulatory message to the medal winners.

“Congratulations to Wahid Omar and Joseph Paul Amoah, who won bronze medals for Ghana in the Men’s Light Welterweight and 200m events respectively,” he added.

World Athletics Championships: Ghana finishes fifth in 4x100m final; sets new national record http://34.58.148.58/world-athletics-championships-ghana-finishes-fifth-in-4x100m-final-sets-new-national-record/ Sun, 24 Jul 2022 17:38:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2141348 Ghana finished fifth in the final of the 4x100m event at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.

In the process, the quartet of Sean Safo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Oduro Manu, and Joseph Paul Amoah set a new national record of 38.07s.

Having booked a fourth relays final in the last three years with a 38.58s run on Saturday, Ghana’s relay team now looked to medal when they took to the field in the early hours of Sunday, July 24.

In the end, however, the run could only ensure that they finished behind eventual winners Canada, silver-medalists United States, bronze-finishers Great Britain and fourth-placed Jamaica.

This rounds off Ghana’s participation in the Championships, where there was no medal to speak of.
