Supreme Court dismisses motion to bar Justice Nyante Nyadu from Adu-Boahene trial

Lawyers for former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, have expressed disappointment after the Supreme Court dismissed their motion seeking to stop Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from presiding over their client’s trial.

A five-member panel of the apex court on Thursday unanimously ruled that the application lacked merit, noting that it failed to meet the legal threshold required to disqualify a trial judge.

Reacting to the decision, lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea said while the ruling was disappointing, the defence team remains committed to pursuing justice.

“I am disappointed but not discouraged. We will see how the case will travel. The persuasion a judge should have is the law. I will have a banter or fight with the judge. I am only going to project the law, and that doesn’t move me at all,” he told journalists after the proceedings.

The case, which involves allegations that Mr. Adu-Boahene caused a financial loss of $49 million to the state, is expected to continue before Justice Nyante Nyadu at the High Court.
