New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has dismissed claims that his alleged interest in the SSNIT hotels contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Describing such assertions as pure political propaganda, Dr Acheampong said the narrative around the SSNIT hotels transaction had been deliberately misrepresented to tarnish his reputation.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he explained that the SSNIT hotels deal dates back to 2021, a period when he was not yet a minister, and was part of a transparent process in which SSNIT sought strategic partners to revive the struggling hotels.
“The strength of our candidate in 2016 was centered around the economy, and Ghanaians believed in that narrative because Bawumia came from the Bank of Ghana. As we look towards 2028, can we present the same candidate concerning the economy? Everyone knows that the SSNIT issue was a matter of propaganda; it was a transaction that began in 2021 when I was not yet a minister,” he stated.
He urged the public and party members not to fall for what he described as politically motivated claims surrounding the SSNIT hotels issue.
“SSNIT was seeking partners, and the hotels were struggling. In 2021, my company was one of 14 applicants expressing interest. There was no problem; we were among the three companies shortlisted. It was only when my name surfaced as a potential running mate for 2024 that the issue arose. It was purely propaganda,” he added.
