The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has scrapped a $5,000 (GHC58,000) allocation initially set aside for fuelling the Black Stars’ team bus.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams announced the adjustment during a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, September 2, ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
He explained that the budget briefing formed part of President John Mahama’s directive to promote transparency and accountability in national team expenditure.
According to the Minister, a total of $1.3 million has been approved to cover the double-header against Chad and Mali.
Out of this, $841,290 has been earmarked for the away fixture in N’Djamena against Chad, while $436,600 has been allocated for the home clash with Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars’ budget has faced criticism in recent years over the large sums committed to the team’s operations.
Ghana will face Chad on Thursday, September 4, before returning to Accra to host Mali on Monday, September 8.
