Sports Minister confirms payment of Black Queens’ outstanding bonuses

-

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that all outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Queens have been settled.

Prior to their second-leg clash against Egypt, Ghana’s senior women’s national team had threatened to boycott the game over unpaid bonuses.

However, following a meeting with Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, the players agreed to honour the fixture after receiving assurances that the arrears would be paid.

Speaking to Woezor TV after the match, the Buem Member of Parliament confirmed that the players and officials had received their due payments.

“Black Queens’ bonuses have been paid,” Mr Adams said.

“The players have been given their cheques after the game against Egypt in Accra, and the officials who deserve to be paid have been paid,” he added.

The Black Queens have now booked their place at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after thrashing Egypt 7–0 on aggregate.

The Queens earned a 3–0 victory in the first leg in Ismailia before sealing qualification with a commanding 4–0 win in Accra on Tuesday afternoon.

Ghana will now await the group stage draw for the 2026 WAFCON, set to take place in Morocco. A semifinal finish at the tournament would automatically qualify the Black Queens for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
