The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Sweden Branch, Richard Oti-Aboagye, has called for changes in the party’s national executive leadership ahead of the next internal elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Oti-Aboagye said the party needs a new leadership direction to correct past mistakes and improve its prospects in future elections.
According to him, internal elections should provide an opportunity for party members to assess the performance of current leaders and vote based on merit, stressing the importance of leaders who place the party’s interest above personal considerations.
He acknowledged having personal preferences among individuals expected to contest in the upcoming elections but insisted that the priority should be to elect a national chairman who commands respect across all levels of the party and promotes unity.
“I have a preference regarding the individuals who are expected to run in the internal elections, and fortunately, I’ve had conversations with them,” he said. “However, I believe the current executives need to be changed.
“Each election should serve as a mandate for people to run and be voted on, ensuring that institutional memory is used to correct the mistakes of the past. We need a chairman who prioritises the party above all else and commands respect across all ranks within the party.”
