Six wooden structures burnt in Tema Newtown fire

A fierce fire tore through parts of Manhean Down in Tema Newtown on Saturday afternoon, destroying six wooden structures and their contents before firefighters brought the blaze under control.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred around 2:13 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Tema Regional Headquarters.

The first crew arrived within minutes, but due to the intensity and fast spread of the flames, two additional fire tenders from the Tema Motorway and Industrial Area stations were called in for support.

Despite the challenging conditions, the firefighters managed to contain the inferno by 4:31 p.m., salvaging 12 adjoining wooden structures and preventing the fire from spreading further.

No injuries were recorded, though the fire affected the home of a Firewoman stationed at the Tema Regional Headquarters.

Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick Sallah, who was present at the scene with other senior officers, commended the team for their swift and coordinated response.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the GNFS has once again urged residents to ensure proper electrical connections and exercise caution when using fire or cooking appliances in densely built areas.
