Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has called for greater institutional support for his ride-hailing platform, Shaxi, saying the initiative should be considered a national asset.

Speaking in an interview on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, the musician said ride-hailing platforms in other countries often receive government support, but local innovations like Shaxi struggle to grow without similar backing.

He argued that the project has the potential to create jobs and support national development if government institutions invest in it.

Shatta Wale said he has held discussions with officials, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Malik Basintale, about supporting the initiative.

According to him, although talks have begun, the project requires stronger national commitment to move forward.

He noted that Shaxi has existed for about five years but needs greater institutional backing to fully realise its potential.

“When I started Shaxi, I envisioned being called in and provided with a team to work with while the country managed the overarching framework. I’m open to receiving a percentage of the profits, with the rest allocated to various projects across the country. I’ve been having discussions with politicians about this, but during our visit to the YEA office, the CEO, Basintale, was unwell. He assured me that he would engage in discussions, but I expressed that it’s no longer just about talks—it should be a national agenda.

“I want Shaxi to support the government in the future. I believe that as more apps emerge, the government will realise our potential to take control of these initiatives and utilise them effectively. While I created this idea, I lack the power to drive it forward. It has been five years, and I am eager to see it come to fruition,” he said.
