The Asunafo North Co-operative Cocoa Farmers Union has donated textbooks and exercise books to basic schools in five deprived communities within the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region to help improve education standards.
The beneficiary communities are Manukrom, Driverkrom, Aworokrom, Edwenease, and Mma Waninha.
Speaking to Adom News at Goaso during the presentation ceremony, the Acting Manager of the Union, Kumah Erasmus, explained that the initiative followed an assessment which revealed that schools in these communities lacked essential teaching and learning materials, a situation that was negatively affecting academic performance.
He added that the Union, with support from its partner Tony’s Chocolonely, undertook the donation to help bridge the gap in educational resources and promote quality learning.
Public Relations Officer for Asunafo North, Isaac Siaw, and Assistant Headteacher of Manukrom Basic School, Oppong Felix, both expressed their appreciation to the Union for the support.
They noted that the provision of core subject textbooks would go a long way to enhance teaching and learning and adequately prepare pupils for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
