Award-winning highlife musician and songwriter, Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr, popularly known as Akwaboah, has revealed who taught him how to handle social media trolls.
In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show, Akwaboah disclosed that rapper Sarkodie, his former label boss, was the one who guided him on dealing with online critics.
He recounted how the lesson came about after Sarkodie faced heavy trolling following the release of his collaboration with American rapper Ace Hood.
“I was really upset and asked why there was so much backlash. Sark just told me, ‘Welcome to the world; this is exactly what you’re going to see once you’re up there, and this is how you must answer or respond,’” Akwaboah shared.
The “Forget” hitmaker added that while his father mentored him in many aspects of the music industry, it was Sarkodie who specifically helped him understand how to cope with trolls, since his father often reacted angrily to such situations.
Akwaboah admitted that although he has learned to ignore most of the negativity, some of it still affects him. “At the end of the day, I’m human, but I’ve learned to control myself,” he said.
