Sampa under lockdown after deadly chieftaincy clashes

Calm has returned to Sampa in the Jaman North District after violent clashes over a chieftaincy dispute on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, left a woman dead and a police officer injured by gunfire.

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Jaman North, Adane George, told Adom News that heavy military and police presence has restored order, though the town remains crippled.

“As of this morning, there are no economic activities in Sampa. All banks are closed, and residents cannot even access their money,” Mr. George confirmed.

He revealed that the town’s main market was set ablaze during the disturbances, worsening the economic paralysis. “There is no way to even buy porridge in Sampa. Many residents fled to nearby communities and are yet to return,” he added.

According to him, sporadic gunfire throughout Tuesday triggered widespread panic until security reinforcements arrived.

Mr. George commended Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboah and security authorities for their swift intervention.

“Full security control has been established, and calm restored, but social and economic life is still at a standstill,” he said.
