The festive spirit was on full display at the Amanokrom Durbar Grounds in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region on Saturday, December 20, 2025, as thousands of shoppers and traders turned out for the Christmas edition of Ofie Market.
This year’s edition showcased a unique blend of commerce, cultural celebration, and community engagement, marking a high point in the market’s rapid growth since its inception.
Traffic along the Accra-Koforidua route was heavy from early morning as people from across the region flocked to the market, eager to purchase fresh produce, crafts, and festive goods.

The market, now a cornerstone of local economic empowerment, has been largely credited to the vision of Akuapem North Member of Parliament, Sammi Awuku.
Launched in March 2025 as a grassroots initiative, Ofie Market was designed to create a direct link between farmers and consumers. For years, small-scale farmers struggled with post-harvest losses and low returns due to exploitative middlemen. The market provides a platform to sell produce at fair prices, empowering farmers while giving consumers access to quality, locally produced goods.
This year’s Christmas edition saw record participation and attendance. Traders praised the platform for boosting sales and providing consistent exposure.

Sammi Awuku attended, greeted by cheers from traders and shoppers. The Ghana Supporters Union of the Black Stars entertained the crowd with music and dance, enhancing the festive atmosphere. Awuku interacted with attendees, danced with the crowd, and extended heartfelt Christmas greetings.
A new feature this year was a health screening station, offering basic checks to attendees and highlighting the market’s expanding role as a hub for community well-being.
Beyond trade, Ofie Market has strengthened social cohesion and fostered community pride. Local chiefs and elders, particularly from Amanokrom, acknowledged the market as a transformative project for the region.
Addressing traders, Awuku reiterated his commitment to continue the initiative in the coming year. “The market is not just about selling goods; it is about creating sustainable livelihoods for farmers, traders, and the broader community,” he said.
As the sun set on the bustling grounds, traders packed up with smiles of satisfaction, and shoppers left with baskets full of goods and hearts full of festive cheer.
