Sam George orders suspension of enforcement exercise on delivery riders in Accra

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, has directed the immediate suspension of a joint enforcement operation targeting unlicensed delivery riders in Accra.

The exercise, carried out by the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission (PCSRC) in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, sparked public backlash on Thursday, August 21, after motorcycles were seized and clashes broke out near the National Theatre. Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Minister acknowledged that while the operation was legally mandated to regulate the use of motorbikes for delivery services, its rollout was flawed.

“I have directed this afternoon an immediate halt to the ongoing enforcement action by the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission,” he wrote.
