Black Stars team doctor Dr Prince Pambo has confirmed that defender Mohammed Salisu will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after sustaining a serious knee injury.

The AS Monaco centre-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a league encounter against Olympique Lyonnais in January.

Salisu has since undergone successful surgery and has begun light rehabilitation work in the gym as part of his recovery.

Following a recent visit to the player in France, Dr Pambo disclosed that the 26-year-old faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, estimating a nine-month recovery period.

“Mohammed Salisu will miss the World Cup; his knee injury requires nine months to recover,” Dr Pambo told Asempa FM.

The Black Stars’ medical head also provided an update on midfielder Francis Abu, who sustained an ankle injury during Ghana’s Kirin Cup clash against Japan in November.

“Francis Abu was expected to recover within five to six months after surgery, but he is responding well to treatment,” Dr Pambo added.

Meanwhile, Ghana will open their Group L campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in subsequent fixtures. The Black Stars are expected to regroup in March for international friendly matches against Austria and Germany.

Head coach Otto Addo is scheduled to announce his final squad for the tournament on June 1.
