Salaga South MP, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has assured the family of the abused Dodowa schoolgirl, Jalila Abdul Jalil, that Parliament will take up the case to ensure justice and accountability.
During a visit to the family, the MP said the matter would be pursued with urgency at the parliamentary level, particularly through the Human Rights and Gender Committees. She added that the Speaker of Parliament would be formally briefed to activate the necessary procedures to ensure the case receives the attention it deserves.
“This is a very serious matter, and Parliament will not treat it lightly. We will ensure that the right processes are followed so that justice is done,” she said.
Madam Zuwera Ibrahimah noted that she was encouraged by reports that Jalila had undergone a successful surgery and was in a stable condition. She expressed hope for the child’s full recovery and assured the family of continued support.
The Salaga South MP strongly condemned the alleged abuse, stressing that no teacher, housemistress or caregiver entrusted with the welfare of children should betray that responsibility. She assured the family that the housemistress implicated in the incident would be held accountable to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Children are vulnerable and depend on adults and institutions for protection. What happened is deeply regrettable and unacceptable,” she stated.
She also indicated that the Ministry of Education would be engaged to help put in place measures to prevent similar incidents in schools, as part of broader efforts to protect children and uphold their rights.
The case of Jalila Abdul Jalil has sparked public concern, renewing calls for stronger safeguards and accountability within Ghana’s basic and secondary education system.
The family of the victim expressed gratitude to the MP for the visit and her support, appealing to authorities to ensure justice is served and such incidents are not repeated.
