Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Hwidiem, Ahafo Region, has partnered with the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Nurses Society – Bono and Ahafo Chapter to enhance education aimed at combating hearing loss among children in the region.

As part of this year’s World Hearing Day celebration, themed “From Communities to Classroom: Hearing Care for Every Child, Protect Your Hearing Today for a Better Tomorrow,” the ENT team provided training and education to teachers in Hwidiem.

Dr. Daniel Aning, an ENT surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital, emphasized that hearing loss often begins in childhood, highlighting the importance of awareness and education in effectively addressing the issue.

He explained that if proper care is not taken during pregnancy, labor, and after birth, a child may develop hearing loss. He stressed the importance of regular ear assessments at health facilities to prevent hearing problems.

ENT Nurse Serwaa Agyemang Prempeh, together with the hospital’s Nurse Manager, Gladys Bediako, told Adom News that hearing loss is a distressing condition. The ENT department is committed to providing education and offering free screenings to help address the issue and safeguard the health of residents.

They encouraged teachers to apply the knowledge gained during the event to identify students with hearing difficulties and report their observations promptly for early intervention and treatment.
